Not quite ready for that lifestyle yet. What I can say is that everyone was very friendly, the building was beautiful and very clean. What I did not like was that the outside area was very cramped and claustrophobic to me. Besides the Assisted Living building there were rows of apartment buildings for seniors. Just too much in a small space. If I needed to live in an Assisted Living place I would check this one out (although they did say it was full) Once inside, I liked it very much.

When he first…read moremoved, he was not keen on the idea and you might say we dragged him there kicking and screaming. Now he calls me up all the time to tell me how much he loves living there and how glad he is that I found him such a nice place! Aston Gardens is a Senior Independent Living Community. There are many singles but also couples. Apartments range in size from 687 sq ft apartment with one bedroom and 1 bath, to 1525 sq ft 2 bedroom 2 bath with formal dining room and a den. All apartments have a full kitchen, laundry, storage unit, and a porch. My dad chose a two bedroom unit with 1.5 baths which was perfect for him. He has enough room, but it is not too big for him either. He has one room set up as an exercise room / office, and uses the smaller bedroom for sleeping. It is a nice bright upscale apartment with a screened in porch. When my Dad first moved in he was able to still drive his golf cart and there are parking spaces where you can plug in and keep your golf cart covered for a reasonable monthly fee. In case you are not familiar with Sun City Center Florida, they have special lanes all over town just for golf carts. You can get around town with just a golf cart, so seniors can have more independence without having to drive a car. Golf carts do not require a license to drive and they also do not require the expense of insurance. Besides the apartment at Aston Gardens, your rent includes housekeeping once a week. They also change your sheets and wash your towels. Aston Gardens provides meals for residents that are also included in the rent and available in the dining room. We were invited to have lunch and dinner with a few residents to try it out. At the time my father moved in they were offering a special of one month free. Do not be afraid to negotiate on price or moving expenses! One of the things I liked about Aston Gardens is that he had buttons and pull cords in his apartment in case he needed help. Also he had to check in once a day or they would check on him! The rent includes rides if needed and there are many activities to choose from. The complex is on beautiful grounds that look more like a resort than a retirement community. The grounds are surrounded by a golf course and include an outdoor swimming pool. If you find that you need extra help you can get it in your apartment. So far my Dad does not need it, but it is nice to know it is there. He does take advantage of the barber shop and sometimes he needs help with writing something out to send in the mail. Extra help in a residents apartment is an extra expense, but the staff at Aston Gardens can help you arrange it. I am so glad that we found Aston Gardens for my Dad. I can not say enough regarding the nursing staff, present 24/7, and the attention dad received from the clinic. He was easy to be liked, but I must say he had friends at all levels.. cafeteria, housekeeping, maintenance and reception desk. Toward the very end, I received calls during the night as to how he was doing, during the day we were there with him... until his last breath. My mother was transferred here and the arrival was a disaster. She was found wandering the parking lot and asking for my father (who has been dead for 31 years). Then once they got her into the unit, I was told by the nurse that she was very uncooperative about taking her meds. Why they couldn't slip it into her food or drink is beyond me. Then when I called to see how she was, both times I was connected to Deborah. She had the most miserable tone in her voice and complained about my mom packing and unpacking. I did research on this and it's very typical for Alzheimer's patients to do that when in a new place. She also said that she refused to take her meds. Why is this even an issue for someone who is supposed to be trained to take care of people with dementia? Then we were told after she had been there for only 5 days, she was going to be kicked out. We asked for help from the staff there to find her a more suitable facility. It typically takes about a month for people to get adjusted. They gave her 5 days! The director, Michelle Orlando, told us she "exhausted the search for every place in the area." My husband called 2 places the same day and we were told there was plenty of room at both. The icing on the cake was when Michelle told me "Your mother has been absolutely vile to everyone here since she arrived." This was already an emotionally draining time for me and to be told those exact words about my ailing mother told me all I needed to know. She was moved to another facility and is doing great. This is because the new facility has properly trained staff - not miserable nurses who complain about my mom and a director who couldn't even be bothered to call another facility for me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! It's truly all top show. They entice you by showing you their facility and claiming to have properly trained staff. This is false! Good luck if your loved one comes here and experiences the anger that most dementia patients will go through. Their staff aren't trained to handle those patients. On a side note, they charged us $4400 which was fraudulent. Mom wasn't even there a month, yet they wanted to try to get over half her monthly rent on top of the $10,000 I paid them. They are truly fraudulent in their practices and what they promise people. All this while we are in an extremely vulnerable position. If this keeps one person from making the same mistake we did, I'll be happy. BTW, for those looking for memory care facility, please make sure the staff is licensed to administer alternative delivery systems such as a topical gel for benzodiazepines. This has been the saving grace at her new facility.

My mom had a stroke & was paralyzed on her right side. The therapists worked diligently with mom & she now has movement in right arm & can stand (with help). Mom was in the wing that had several residents with Covid, but she & her roommate did not test positive. The facility had Infectious Disease out to help them with cleaning & PPE protocals & moved all infected to a separate wing with a medical barrier. They did the work & it shows. ZERO Covid positive today (June 24, 2020) !!! Good Job!!

This place has been a great home and relief for my mom and us. The Staff are all wonderful and June the Director of Memory is absolutely awesome, she really takes time with all the residents and is involved with them and helps her team out as well. The Food is really good here not hot dogs and chicken tenders....soup, salads, main and deserts. They have lots of events and activities. The Facility is very clean and well maintained. There are 2 outdoor areas for Memory. I really feel comfortable with my mom at this location.
