My mom had a stroke & was paralyzed on her right side. The therapists worked diligently with mom & she now has movement in right arm & can stand (with help). Mom was in the wing that had several residents with Covid, but she & her roommate did not test positive. The facility had Infectious Disease out to help them with cleaning & PPE protocals & moved all infected to a separate wing with a medical barrier. They did the work & it shows. Unfortunately, this transition was marred by significant issues that compelled my nieces to seek alternative care for their mother within just a few days of her arrival.       Despite my niece's meticulous planning, and dedication over the past three years in managing their Mother's care, the initial experience at Brookdale Phillippi Creek was disheartening. The facility failed to meet the expectations set by its reputation, leading my nieces to move their mother back to her previous home, where she was welcomed with open arms. This decision was not made lightly, as they had worked diligently to ensure a smooth transition for their Mother to Brookdale Phillippi Creek.    The financial aspect of this ordeal has been equally troubling. The family paid an exorbitant $5,621.50 for a stay that lasted a few days, and I (their Aunt) have struggled for three months to retrieve the funds owed to them. As of now, Brookdale has only offered to refund $1,125.74, while the significant $2,500 community fee remains unreturned. It is bewildering that a billion-dollar company cannot facilitate a straightforward reimbursement process, particularly when the circumstances leading to my sister's departure was a direct result of the facility's shortcomings.   Despite numerous attempts to resolve this matter--42 emails and countless calls and texts to the executive director--the response has been frustrating. A promise of a follow-up call this past Friday from the Business Office Manager has gone unfulfilled, leaving me once again feeling ignored and disheartened.   Brookdale Phillippi Creek must take responsibility for its service failures and address the financial discrepancies promptly. My family is eager to resolve this matter by getting the credit resolved, and receiving a clear report showing a zero balance, free of any late fees.   In conclusion, my family will not consider returning to any Brookdale facility in the future. It is my hope that this review serves as a cautionary tale for others considering their services. Accountability and communication are crucial in elder care, and Brookdale Phillippi Creek has unfortunately fallen short on both fronts.     One side note: I personally want to acknowledge the efforts of Leslie A. who has been incredibly helpful throughout this process. I was grateful to find this assisted living and retirement community that also supports independent living for my father. He needed help towards the end and with that care combined with the wonderful residents and supportive staff it turned out to be a very good experience. The location is perfect and the garden outside is a tranquil area for residents to visit. I highly recommend Alderman Oaks.

This place has been a great home and relief for my mom and us. The Staff are all wonderful and June the Director of Memory is absolutely awesome, she really takes time with all the residents and is involved with them and helps her team out as well. The Food is really good here not hot dogs and chicken tenders....soup, salads, main and deserts. They have lots of events and activities. The Facility is very clean and well maintained. My mother was transferred here and the arrival was a disaster. She was found wandering the parking lot and asking for my father (who has been dead for 31 years). Then once they got her into the unit, I was told by the nurse that she was very uncooperative about taking her meds. Why they couldn't slip it into her food or drink is beyond me. Then when I called to see how she was, both times I was connected to Deborah. She had the most miserable tone in her voice and complained about my mom packing and unpacking. I did research on this and it's very typical for Alzheimer's patients to do that when in a new place. She also said that she refused to take her meds. Why is this even an issue for someone who is supposed to be trained to take care of people with dementia? Then we were told after she had been there for only 5 days, she was going to be kicked out. We asked for help from the staff there to find her a more suitable facility. It typically takes about a month for people to get adjusted. They gave her 5 days! The director, Michelle Orlando, told us she "exhausted the search for every place in the area." My husband called 2 places the same day and we were told there was plenty of room at both. The icing on the cake was when Michelle told me "Your mother has been absolutely vile to everyone here since she arrived." This was already an emotionally draining time for me and to be told those exact words about my ailing mother told me all I needed to know. She was moved to another facility and is doing great. This is because the new facility has properly trained staff - not miserable nurses who complain about my mom and a director who couldn't even be bothered to call another facility for me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! It's truly all top show. They entice you by showing you their facility and claiming to have properly trained staff. This is false! Good luck if your loved one comes here and experiences the anger that most dementia patients will go through. Their staff aren't trained to handle those patients. On a side note, they charged us $4400 which was fraudulent. Mom wasn't even there a month, yet they wanted to try to get over half her monthly rent on top of the $10,000 I paid them. They are truly fraudulent in their practices and what they promise people. All this while we are in an extremely vulnerable position. If this keeps one person from making the same mistake we did, I'll be happy. BTW, for those looking for memory care facility, please make sure the staff is licensed to administer alternative delivery systems such as a topical gel for benzodiazepines. This has been the saving grace at her new facility.
