As a lover of speakeasies and craft cocktails, The Green Room has been on my list for a while. What better time to go than on my anniversary! Echoing what everyone else has been saying - the service is SO slow. It was about 45 minutes before we were able to order our second drink and our water glasses were empty. They have so many runners bringing the drinks out but only a few servers and, from the looks of it, one bartender (on a Saturday night - what?!). The server was saying he was trying to find a manager to help out but they were nowhere to be found. Clearly management is fine with these service times since they're still making $$$. The drinks were delicious, and I loved that there were heaters on the patio (though they did get very hot at times). Our server was so kind and brought us a celebratory drink. I do wish there were more explanations with the beverages, especially for the Paid Vacation as most people will not realize you're supposed to bite into the buzz button for the tingly sensation. The appeal of this place is not offset by the negatives. It's really marketed as more of an exclusive experience. Kind of like a speakeasy. The service is a one out of five for sure. We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. The Green Room is a pretty amazing experience (with a couple of hiccups). I stopped by this speakeasy on a Thursday evening at 9 p.m. I made a reservation through OpenTable. Located inside of Castaway, valet is your only real option. I found some street parking which was about a 10 minute walk. The problem was the road you need to walk down has no sidewalk and it's pitch dark. I figured risking getting run over by a car isn't worth it. Especially at night. Ambiance (5/5): This is one of the areas where The Green Room Shines. Once you walk into Castaway, tell the front desk you have a reservation. They will lead you through a hidden door close to the bathroom to get into the speakeasy. From there, you'll have the option of either sitting inside (where you'll find Prohibition-era vibes) or outside on the patio. I highly recommend sitting on the patio. Despite the chilly weather while I was there, part of the appeal of The Green Room (and The Castaway if you're going to the restaurant instead) are the scenic views of LA. The Green Room is located at the top of a mountain so amazing views await. Especially if you're there at sunset. Service (2.5/5): Room for improvement here, for sure. From reading reviews prior to my visit, other Yelpers talked about having to solve a puzzle to enter the speakeasy and then receiving a welcome drink. This wasn't part of my experience. I'm not sure if it's something they no longer do, or if I was unlucky, but it was a bummer either way. Part of the appeal of a speakeasy is the mystery and intrigue of getting in. And who doesn't like a welcome drink?! My waiter, on the other hand, did a pretty good job. He was charming and explained each of the cocktails. He was a little less attentive than I like, but overall, it was good. They also have free WiFi which is also a good touch. Another knock is that valet is $11 (plus a processing fee if you pay by card). I'm not from California, so I'm not used to Cali prices, but this seems a little steep in my mind. They do have a food menu though. Drinks (4.5/5): If you're looking for clever, over-the-top drinks, you'll have that option at The Green Room. What's cool is that the specialty cocktails are all inspired by various movies including Aladdin, Snow White, Crazy Rich Asians, and more. The Aladdin-inspired cocktail is served in a teapot and is for two. The Snow White-inspired cocktail comes with a mirror and lipstick where you can write stuff on the mirror. Talk about creativity! If you're looking for something less intense, they have normal cocktails too, as well as wine. As the self-appointed king of speakeasies, one of the things I look for at a speakeasy is creativity and an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. You certainly have that here. This was my first time at the Green Room, but I've been to Castaway a handful of times! Parking is valet only. Make sure to make a reservation. Made a reservation for Saturday night 7pm and there were still plenty of tables available. Except, sitting in the patio gets filled out quickly, so we were only able to sit inside. I loved the creative touches and presentation this place offered. I got the Paid Vacation drink with the tongue-numbing flower that changes the way the drink tastes. The flower was not the most pleasant thing to eat, but the experience was worth it. The After School Snack (calzones) were INCREDIBLE! The Terrarium wasn't anything too special, and I did enjoy the Special Delivery kimchi balls. AMBIENCE/SERVICE We were greeted into our secret speakeasy experience with a free taste of the drink of the day - it was fantastic. The views were also absolutely stunning. This is a lot of things. It's a scene. It's a special occasion place. It's a show. There's stunning and iconic views. And they serve food too. Everything here is drama. Getting here is an event - I didn't even know Burbank HAD mountains like this... and you keep going up and up and up... Then, walking in and being told I would need to solve a puzzle to figure out a password to gain entry. I did not comply. I'm truly no fun in that way. I made a reservation so I'm coming in, you know? Anyway, I lightened up when presented with the "free nightly cocktail". Nice surprise. I don't remember what it was but it was a tasty little drink to help ease me into this experience. Which, as I mentioned before, is A LOT. The patio view is stunning. Absolutely amazing. And you will recognize it from dozens of TV shows and movies. When the sun is out, the view is remarkable. When it's dark, it's even better. Unfortunately, there is no practical seating. The tables are too small for the giant presentations and nothing is designed with having food in mind. We definitely planned on making this our dinner, not just drinking it. The best seats are probably the lounge chairs with the low tables in front of them, which allow for both people to enjoy that view... of course, you'll have to bend considerably low to reach any food on the table. Eating clearly is not the point here. And you know that because the food is... well it's for show. It's not terrible but it's so wild and outlandish that if it actually did manage to be delicious, you'd be gobsmacked. But it's not. We started with "The Terrarium" - and yes, everything here has a silly name. This is hummus with fried pita and veggies. It's served on an enormous wooden platter with the pita crazily exploding into tall shards. It's something to see. It's not particularly good. The hummus is strictly grocery store case and the pita was stale. We also had the Hot Seafood Tower. That was not bad. The seafood is seasoned like one of those "seafood boil in a bag" places and they didn't give us anything to crack the crab legs and lobster with so it was a pretty messy experience. We liked the oysters and the crab and lobster were fine. The scallops were overcooked, which happens, but they were still edible. Drinks are just as outlandish as everything else. We saw cocktails delivered in a bed of flowers, in a "poison apple" with a mirror to write on in lipstick, and various other theatrical presentations. I had the Tropical Thunder, which came with a story. Our eyes hurt from rolling so much... but yeah, we were having fun. These designer cocktails are NOT cheap - at least $22 and upwards of $40 or more. They aren't strong either, but if you drink too much you wouldn't be able to make it off the mountain, so they're probably doing you a favor. Dessert was a big miss but also a really big show... we had "A Pie-Rates Life For Me"... yeah, we didn't know what it was either. The description is a lot of dessert type words that don't go together. It turned out to be pretty much a baked Alaska. It was lit on fire (natch) with a pour of booze. And that was all you tasted throughout the dessert. The raw alcohol soaked the meringue outside and the cake inside had also been soaked in booze. We couldn't eat more than a few bites. We came here as a group of 9, they card at the door so make sure to bring your ID. The patio is very nice with heaters and a beautiful view of the city. Our party was split up awkwardly between two tables, so I wasn't able to talk to everyone who was with us which was unfortunate. There was a large gap between the two tables so we ended up sitting very far apart. Our waitress took our order quickly for drinks, but didn't come back for a long time after this. We had to flag her down to order food, which we also told her we wanted to do but needed some more time to look over the menu. The drinks were super fun and we enjoyed them all! I had a green tea based drink for two that was delicious and the presentation was so beautiful. The plating and presentation of most of the food and drinks was on point. Lots of the dishes were very good, but seemed overpriced to me. Some of our favorites were the uncrustables, which had good flavor and a creamy sauce inside. It came with a sauce which was difficult to pour since the cup it was in was not meant for pouring. The special delivery was fried to perfection and had complicated flavors, and seemed to fuse Asian and Italian dishes. The yellowtail aguachile had a nice spice and very fresh fish. There were some dishes that seemed to be on the menu to be flashy rather than taste good, specifically the caviar frites come to mind, and that dish was super underwhelming and lacking flavor and spice. The special delivery was just okay, the calzones were a little greasy and almost soggy, and didn't have any crisp to them. The terrarium came out last, but it's more of an appetizer that would make sense to eat first. I thought there would be a lot more to it, but it was literally hummus with crackers and vegetables, very underwhelming. And the dessert was not what we expected, very strong alcohol taste, and not a good flavor. It needed to be cooked more or something because the alcohol was basically all we could taste. Lastly, we all wanted to order more drinks, but our waitress never returned. Overall, I still give this spot a 4/5 due to the good flavor of most of the dishes, super unique flavors, and the fun presentations. But the service was lacking quite a bit. We wanted to try the Fairest of Them All but were told they did not have any for the day because the drink wasn't prepared properly but we saw another table get served that drink right before us. The Caviar Frites tasted like frozen fries drizzled with some caviar. With the price of the fries, I expected at least fresh fries. The portion was huge but for $25, they should've chosen quality over quantity. We also asked for extra aioli for dip and they never brought it. Their Special Delivery looked unique but it didn't taste as unique as it looked. We only ate one and didn't touch the rest. The Peruvian Ceviche was probably the best thing we tried. The dish was light and refreshing and the seafood was fresh. Even for just a party of 2, expect to be there for at least 2 hours because service is pretty slow. They do note the 2 hour dining experience when you make a reservation and the servers were nice but I wish it was easier to flag them down for additional requests. They had a live DJ which was a nice touch to the experience but it also made it difficult to hear each other talk so not sure how bigger groups were able to converse over the music. This is absolutely one of my favorite places to visit, especially when you're in the valley. When you don't feel like driving all the way to West Hollywood or Beverly Hills for a good time. You have amazing views. I definitely recommend coming around sunset or a little beforehand to get the best photos. You get a great sunset view of the whole Valley. My husband and I made a reservation for Valentine's Day weekend on a Saturday night at 6pm. The drive up here was beautiful since you drive up the mountain side and only valet parking is available. Upon walking towards the restaurant, they have a beautiful social media worthy backdrop for pictures for the Castaway restaurant that the Green Room speakeasy is located in. We checked in at the front and were lined up by the speakeasy's entrance. A hostess showed us in and gave us complimentary cranberry mimosas from this cocktail fountain. So fancy! She showed us where they seat their parties of 2 and we got to pick the table by the fire. The view from where we sat was magical and romantic as we could see the sunset melting into twilight. We ordered a lot and it is expensive. But the aesthetically pleasing experience is what factors into this pricey outing. Our server was awesome and efficient. We ordered the three wishes cocktails. It was so pretty and our waiter let me record a video of him pouring our cocktails out of the fancy teapot. My husband got the tropical thunder cocktail as well and I got the crazy rich cocktail and that was my favorite! It came out on a fancy dry ice and flower tray. Keep in mind, they don't let these photo op setups stay on your table. Once you snap your photos, they take it back. The food was pretty good and I was actually surprised with how full I got from these appetizers. The lobsta pastry puffs were great but I ate one of the hard cranberry looking things on the bottom, super bitter don't do it lol. The Uncrustable with crab meat was a great take on a nostalgic pb and j classic. My favorites were the after school snack calzones and the castaway dried age bits. The meat was tender, but I did scrape off some of the bleu cheese since it was very potent. Overall, my husband and I were quite happy and had a lovely evening out together. Came here for the first time for a friend's Birthday (Saturday night) and we had a good time! The bar is located to the left, it's not super obvious. They have a fun photo booth camera outside the door before coming in. They then greet you inside with a fun drink that comes from a fountain (a little sweet for my taste, but it was still good). There are high tables and low tables for seating. The inside is super cute and chic! They have a live DJ playing in the corner, which did make it a little difficult to hear people talking; however the DJ livened up the place! Staff/Service 4/5: Staff was very friendly and tried their best given they were under staffed that night due to people calling out and the place was packed! One of the waitresses was new, so she was only able to fill water and take food away. To make-up for the lacking in service, the Manager was very kind and offered us the Up, Up N' Away dessert tower ($45) (completely unnecessary!). This dessert tower was insane and absolutely delicious! Food 4/5: *All the dishes were completely unique and some of the dishes tend to rotate. *Special Delivery ($23)... Duck Confit, Kimchi Fried Rice, Arancini, Green Onion, Kimchi Aioli... full of flavor! *Steak Tartare cigars... this was one of my favorite dishes! I did think at first there were only the cigars that sat on the plate, however there are several in the cigar box as well! Came here for my final birthday celebration lol. This restaurant has been on my bookmarks for a while so I was super excited to finally make a visit. The Green Room is a lounge right next to the Castaway Restaurant. They have a cool Photo Booth right outside the Green Room so you can take pics while you wait to enter. We walked in and entered the Green Room through a side door, where we walked into a literal green room with 1920's inspo lol. We were welcomed with a complimentary Gin Paloma, which was good! We were seated in their patio area which had amazing views of Burbank and DTLA in the distance. The views were definitely a plus! We came around 6pm so we were able to catch the sunset. What makes this restaurant special are their presentations for their food and drinks. Their cocktail menu is inspired by movies which made the drinks extra fun. Of course I ordered the Tiffany Prefers Cocktails because tequila is my fav lol. It came out in a Tiffany blue box where you pull the glass out of the box and the server pours the drink into the glass. So cool! We also ordered La Muerta which was inspired by Coco. It came with a popsicle and spicy chamoy stick. For food we ordered the Uncrustables, Caviar Frites, Castaway Dry-Aged Bites, and Lobsta. The Uncrustables came out in a lunchbox and the Dry-Aged bites had cool little mustache toothpicks. These were our favs. We enjoyed the Caviar Frites but wish it had a sweet/spicy sauce to accompany as it was overall pretty salty. Lobsta was good but wish it had more lobster. We saw that they previously had popcorn chicken and wanted to try that out. Because it was my birthday, they offered a complimentary birthday drink which was a nice touch. Driving up to this place is like adventuring into Jurassic Park. It's such a cool drive and such an amazing location. Just imagine golfers in the mountain woods instead of dinosaurs, though. The service was really friendly. Not that I wasn't expecting that, but sometimes places that are very high-end are a bit more cool. But from the hostess to our incredible server, we were made to feel very welcome. The inside is gorgeous and bright, with tantalizing views of the valley. Unfortunately, it rained pretty heavy right before we were there, so the gorgeous outdoor deck was not open. Both of my cocktails were best in class worldwide. All of the drinks have some sort of movie theme and accompanying creative presentation. And while the presentation was a ton of fun, the great news is the drinks live up to the height of the presentation. I had the Tyler Durden and Crazy Rich Cocktail. The Durden had a molecular foam on top that I'm now dying to re-create. The Crazy Rich had a delicious bit of butterfly pea dancing with the Mezcal. The only food we sampled was the LOBSTA, a sort of lobster bisque puff pastry. And we could've eaten four or five more servings. What an amazing place! read more

I recommend this place for the people who like to chill with a view. I do not recommend this place for people trying to have a ton of fun and dance the night away. I've been here a few times and with groups wanting to experience both, it was more of a "turn down for what" kind of vibe from the servers when we would all start to "turn up". (The DJ killed it each time, of course you've gotta get up and dance) but then you would and the servers are MIA or getting eye rolls when asking for water, food or drinks- come to find out that they had cut my table off (over 12 people) from food and drinks without notice and that sucked after a $900 bill... it was very much a "time for you guys to leave" situation. read more

My husband and I went here last month for date night. The ambiance was amazing. I highly recommend being seated outside for a great view. The service was great. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and very attentive. Now the food. All I have to say is wow! We ordered Afternoon School Snack, Caviar Frites, Peruvian Ceviche, and the Castaway Dry Aged Bites.
