The menu has something for everyone. Our burgers were perfectly cooked and a bit better than usual pub fare. Service is excellent with cheerful staff who kept us well looked after. The space is comfortable pub style with mostly high tops. Some parking available. Good drinks menu but I was surprised that the beer choices were weak by pub standards. I settled for a Lancaster but considering all the great breweries in Calgary they could improve the offerings. It's convenient for Altadore residents but if you're a beer connoisseur then The Garrison won't do it for you. read more

Food is fine for the most part Been ordering here for years but have changed their delicious cinnamon buns . I ordered t weeks ago and I got some cheap store bought version couldn't even eat it It was so stale. So I called and the girl answering the phones told me their cinnamon buns have always been like this.Left a message for the owner and owner called back and apologized and the baker was on holidays. I ordered 2 weeks later same thing and girl at the freaking front same story. My Dudes...the burger.... It's one of those things where I couldn't have even said anything. It wasn't a good burger that got cooked wrong, it was a horrible burger cooked horribly. It must not be too much of a secret because I literally only had one bite of it and the server didn't even ask if anything was wrong when she picked up my plate. That said, the poutine was good as usual, and the beer is always fresh and cold. I only use the word "literally", literally...and that was literally the worst burger I have had in 20 years. We've only been ordering take out since Covid, but their food is still fantastic. They've set up a separate counter for picking up food so it's Covid safe. This place is our go to in a pinch for ordering take out. read more

The Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich I rate the best in Calgary! Absolutely amazing. My wife was also loving the soup. Service was excellent as well. We sat outside on the patio and the area is so nice and quiet, relaxing, great for an afternoon out. read more

Solid pub. I like the crowd and the food. Wings and the fish burger and fries were delicious, way better than the typical pub grub you get in Calgary. Daily specials and the pizzas look good. I didn't care for the Moroccan lamb spring rolls, which weren't crispy and thus bendy and the filling was too sparse. I want to try the prawn noodle appetizer next. No cool beers like Banded Peak or Tokyo Drift, but I like that you can get a smaller glass of beer for $5.00. If The Garrison Pub had a couple more beers that I like, I'd give this place 5 starts. Service is good and genuine, but note you may have to wait a bit because it gets crazy busy in here. read more

I didn't even get in the door! Was going for, conveniently, an Ice cream ( from the shop beside!) and then a beer with my significant other. We thought the garrison would be good since it was beside our ice cream shoppe. easy, you'd think, right? as a matter of fact, not so much. As I got into an altercation with someone who I didn't know was the owner. the very sad man proceeded to tell me I had to move right now and that he pays too many taxes annually for the parking lot for it to be used by patrons of other shops. I don't drink alcohol at all, so going to a pub for me is not a very common thing. But this pub is my favorite out of the ones I've been to in the city. It's small, not crowded all the time and the food is amazing. I am a huge sweet potato fries fan, and they probably have some of the best in the city. The staff is quick and really friendly, I've never had a problem with them. It's a great neighborhood pub for those living in the Altadore area, and when the other pubs are way too packed for your liking, this one is worth the trip for sure. read more

My colleagues and I had our 2014 Christmas lunch here. I ordered the namesake Garrison Burger, which despite its monstrous size I was able to finish, because it was juicy, tender, and oh-so-flavourful. I don't normally expect much from pub food, so it was a pleasant surprise. This neighbourhood pub is out of the way for me, but if you live nearby, you should definitely check it out. read more

I've been going to the Garrison for a while, almost since they opened. It has become one of my favourite pubs in Calgary, and I have visited many. Maybe too many. :-) Beer is a commodity, and the Garrison's prices are in line with pubs and bars in central Calgary. Premium pints nudged up against the $8 mark in Calgary a loooooong time ago, so if you can't afford it, pre-drink or stay home. The prices here are the same or within $0.50 of the Ship, OJ's, KPub, 510, Yardhouse, Unicorn, etc. What really makes the Garrison a winner is the food. They do daily specials, and come up with some great stuff. If the special isn't to your liking, try one of the fantastic pizzas or the Garrison burger [top-rated pick by FFWD]. The house side salad is excellent, and the fries are a nice thick cut. Appetizers are pretty standard, they do wings, calamari, nachos, etc. I usually skip those and get a full meal instead. I've had great service at the Garrison. Once out of every 20 days, a server will be having a bad night, but you get that everywhere. The thing I like is that there is reasonably low staff turnover. The staff have a great attitude, and if you are friendly, they are friendly back. Some of them are forgetful [I'm talking to you, Math Waitress], but overall the service is as good or better than most pubs I've been to in Calgary. The fact that this place is busy most nights is testament to its appeal. Great food, fair prices and nice staff. Bonus - walking distance! read more

Food was ok - pretty standard, nothing spectacular. Server didn't have many answers about food questions. Washrooms were NASTY.... And service was just awful, no clearing of plates or asking about refills we had to ask for menus ... Twice! I don't think I'll be going back if I can help it. The Garrison has great atmosphere and if you get the right server you'll have excellent service all night. However, beer is pushing $8/pint and the nachos are almost $20. In other words, the prices are completely out of line. If you don't mind a really high tab for a night out in the neighbourhood this is the place for you. read more

Pub was good, we were able to talk without screaming. Had only a 10 minute wait for a table on a Friday night, not bad! I had the pub pizza and found it really bland and salty with a crust that was far too chewy, my date had the burger and said it was good. I stole a few fries from his plate and they were really good, fresh and fried to a nice dark brown. Overall I would go back, menu had a large selection and I wouldn't mind trying some other dishes. read more

Very comfy, inviting and busy pub! Great staff, friendly and attentive. Food is okay, regular pub food, I think they use lots of flavor enhancer. But the pizza is supposed to be good, they offer a thin and a thick crust and they are big, perfect to share. They mainly have high, long wooden tables, great for groups or to meet other people. We were there on a Wednesday evening in mid-December, it was pretty busy, with occasional line ups. There seem to be a lot of local people who go there regularly. Update: Such an amazing place. Keep coming back and the food and atmosphere are great. You can pull up to any table, with or without people. Old school long tables encourage conversation amongst strangers. Still haven't found a place with a better steak sandwich. Always find daily specials with a back East flair.... It was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! We had spinach dip to start and it was alright, coulda used more cheese, the chips with it were seasoned though which made better then regular nacho chips. You definitely stop here again the next time we're in Calgary read more

Overall I like this pub, it has many things a good pub should have. It's not too big, it's got some character; the service is generally very good; good food; lots of good beer choices. Had a $17.00 steak sandwich at The Garrison that was probably the worst piece of meat I have ever tried to eat in my life. It was all fat and gristle and pretty much non edible. The waitress never even asked how the meal was even though most of it was still on the plate. Will not be back. read more

I often go here for Saturday lunch and I've never been disappointed. The staff is really warm and on the ball. I almost always order the pan fried cod as it's always perfectly cooked; moist and well seasoned. Someone told me the owner is a Newfie and has some of the freshest seafood in town. The only possible drawback is that the rice is sometimes dry and hard. This place has a really nice, friendly atmosphere. The clientele (at least on a Saturday afternoon) is pretty diverse. read more

Great atmosphere, good food and fabulous waitresses. One complaint I have is the lack of a Happy Hour. $10+ for a glass of wine is a lot, especially compared to many other pubs who will offer some decent drink specials most days of the week. I could be there more often. read more
