Huge selection. Don't think for a minute, that being at the end of the road means you must sacrifice your selection of cheeses or bourbons. Everything you need and most foods you normally enjoy - arw well stocked here. There is also a fridge outside with farm fresh veggies from the local farm. I only stopped here briefly because I got carsick on the way to Copper Harbor. I had asked for some Benadryl because its chemical components are similar to Dramamine (which helps with motion sickness). I don't know who the person was behind the counter but she was so kind and helped me out. I think she thought I got bitten so she also offered some bug cream, but I only needed the Benadryl so I just bought that. I had to leave the store quick because I didn't want to get sick in the store but honestly if I felt better I would've browsed a little longer! The Genny Gas Lite General Store was terrific and sort of essential during my stay here in Copper Harbor, Michigan and for all my necessities traveling out to Isle Royale National Park. The town of Copper Harbor is primitive and remote that I didn't even have cell phone reception during my stay in town. There are a few restaurants and lodging accommodations. But...when it comes to needing a general/convenience store this Genny Gas Lite had everything. I can't be thankful enough for having it located right in the center of town. Overall I spent 3 days in Copper Harbor and each morning that I woke up I came straight here for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. I'm not a huge breakfast person but picking up a quick sandwich and drink to start my day was perfect! They have a microwave for customers to use to heat anything up. Plus...they open daily at 7am (at least when I was here visiting back in June of this summer, 2021) and that was ideal because almost everyone that's comes to Copper Harbor is ultimately taking the Queen IV Ferry out to Rock Harbor, Isle Royale NP. And...the boat departures are at 8am so for Genny to promptly open at 7am is intentionally and accessibly timed. Before my adventure out to Isle Royale, not only did I grab breakfast...but they also featured prepared cold cut sandwiches for quick grab on-the-go. Combined with some potato chips and a couple of drinks I was set for my entire voyage and daytrip out to Isle Royale. Overall, it's not just picking up food and supplies, or any little extras you may need while here in such a remote section of the UP - Upper Peninsula of Michigan....but Genny also sells postcards, souvenirs, gifts and any mementos you may like to purchase from this coastal seaside town of Copper Harbor or the entire UP section of Michigan. Even after dinner I stopped on by here and bought a candy bar for desert. They're open late and very accommodative for all tourists. During the daytime after a hike I simply purchased a midday snack like a bottle of chocolate milk. I relied on this Genny Gas Lite Store multiple times during my stay and visit. After a few stops coming here, the employees knew who I was already and were extremely friendly and cordial. Even before my tour out to Isle Royale...they happily packed my lunch items and snacks in a bag and wished me a good journey out to the park. In the end...I became friendly with the ladies behind the counter. Before they closed in evenings, the young boy and girl who worked the counter recommended an attraction for me to stop at on my way out of Copper Harbor. They suggested (about 23 miles away in Mohawk, Michigan) to stop at a unique little roadside landmark called the Snow Gauge Meter. The meter is actually a historic sign mentioning that this portion of Michigan back in 1978 - 79 received the most amount of snow during one season east of the Rocky mountains. It was a cool worthwhile stop and moment. Just a couple extra notes... - This Genny Gas Lite Store is situated right in town and can't be missed. All of Copper Harbor is virtually 1 block long and you'll notice the store immediately on the left hand side of the street. - I really admired the whole appearance and outside setting of the store. It reminded me of a throwback in time to a simpler era where you could just walk inside a good ole convenience store and pick up a pack of Bazooka Gum. Lol, it very much brought me back to my childhood. I was drawn to this place, hehehe. - Lastly, inside the store I'll just rundown some of everything they offered...drinks, chips, ice cream, Tylenol, beef jerky, refrigerated sandwiches, shirts, hats and any little staples you may need to survive such a secluded part of the UP. - Inside felt like you were at a hardware store, ya know...one of those old fashioned, blue collar places where you're guaranteed to find something for any occasion. Have I said enough good things about this Genny Gas Lite General Store??? Lol, yes if you come to Copper Harbor and out to Isle Royale National Park you'll be sure to make an appearance here. For myself I was very grateful for the frequent visits I made throughout my memorable 3 day stay in Copper Harbor. read more

This little store saved us when my husband and I couldn't even get take out at a local restaurant. The selection of food at this store was incredible. We certainly weren't expecting to see top notch food choices and at fairly reasonable prices too. We ended up getting a few different frozen Chinese entrees and some paper plates. Do you need silverware too? They've got you covered, giving you a choice of plastic or individual pieces of metal. We took all of our goodies back to our motel and used the microwave that was on the porch of the office (rooms did NOT have their own microwaves) to make our dinner. When first walking thru the door of this little store you will see some sanitizer, and they expect you to use it too! All of the staff were very friendly. If you are staying the Copper Harbor area and you need some last minute items this is the only place you can get things for miles. The prices are a little trendy but, you have to consider you are in the middle of nowhere. We stopped in today and picked up a few things. I even saw a special brand of local whole bean coffee that I had to pick up. Can't wait to get home and try it. read more

Best little convience store in Copper Harbor. Good assortments on food. Beverages, camping need, tee shirts, hoodies priced reasonably. Staff is wonderful always ready to assist. Also this store has a ATM if you need more cash. Like to add you must cross the street and there is a small trailer the sells great fish tacos. Will be back in 2019 read more

This place has everything. It is probably the only grocery store within 50 miles of Copper Harbor. I think they take advantage of that too. The prices are definitely higher. They do sell fishing licenses, which is what I needed one of the times I visited while on vacation. Although I didn't catch any fish, it was still worth it. The people there are nice and willing to help you find your way around. They definitely see their share of tourists. If you are planning on spending any lengthy amount of time in town, haul what you need in. It will be cheaper. read more

What I appreciate about this grocery store is it punches above its weight in selection at all price points. Do you want steaks, Veuve Clicquot and a gourmet chocolate bar? Check. Are you more of a pack of bologna and white bread, chips and beer sort? They have that covered too. Impressive wine selection and featuring many local and regional specialties and brands. We've stopped in this store probably 4-5 times each vacation. Sure you expect to pay a little more but that's to be expected. You eather pay $70-$100 to go out to dinner or pay $35-$40 each time you go in here. Saves time and gas that's ok very friendly people. And they have (free) air and if you ask real nice you can borrow. Bob and chuck ?That's the air chuck and air gauge. So glad this place had been a fixture in copper harbor for ever. Great little general store with always friendly people. Selection is necessarily limited by size of the store, but what they have is fresh and good quality. They do offer a nice selection of wine and beer. Great place to ask for advice. These folks have been here for years and know the area well. Charming place.
