This was our first visit to The Gateway and we will definitely be back. Everything about our meal was excellent. Our server was very friendly and attentive. This place really made me consider giving my first and second ex wives another chance! I ate here twice. I heard all good things about this place so I decided to go there for the first time and I had ordered their homemade lasagna. It STUNK! My lasagna put it to shame. I then remembered I saw a picture of wings online and was rather confused because they weren't on the menu. I kindly asked the waitress if they had wings and she replied, "we do they are just not on the menu." As you all know, I'm a wing guy and I'm not going to lie...This secret wing menu item got me a little aroused. I naturally ordered their hottest wings, and they came in a reasonable time (not really a good sign because all wing people know it takes at least 20 mins for good wings). The wings also stunk. I was going to yelp my experience after the first time, but I didn't because I was afraid my harsh review was going to put them out of business. Okay, so fast forward about 2 months and for some reason I agreed to go back. I ordered the drunken cheeseburger this time because I saw a guy get it the first time and immediately knew the lasagna was a bad choice. The cheeseburger came and BAH GOD it was awesome! It was also the first burger I had in awhile that was actually cooked to my order. Rare. I loved every second of this burger;however, I caution you this is not a first date kind of burger. You are going to leave wanting to shower because of all the cheesy goodness on your face. Don't even use a napkin until you finish the entire burger because that's how messy it is. I definitely get why it's called the drunken burger. Best burger I have had so far in this area. The Gateway was packed both times so you know it is good. Nice place. Food was good the fish sandwich was Hugh! The 3 cheese bacon burger was so good it need nothing but the onion lettuce and tomato. The mrs had a chocolate martini that was very good but the glass was small. Only thing if u pay by credit card or debit card they pass the processing fee to you 2% and I am a banker and I doubt they pay 2% so this is more money in the owner's pocket that is my only complaint. read more

Driving to the Poconos from Erie, we decided to stay in Dubois for the night, we looked for a place to eat dinner and what a wonderful eating experience we had. The waiter was so nice and made sure the food we ordered was what we really wanted, my husband had the meat loaf special, he was so impressed the mashed potatoes came in a little crockpot with gravy, which kept the food very hot, the green beans were fresh and well seasoned. I had a delicious chicken with onions, peppers and cheese, could not finish it and unfortunately could not take a doggie bag because we were in a hotel. Was the tonight. Waited an hour and a half to get two burgers and a shrimp basket. The waitress was slow and did not come back to check on beverages in a timely manner. When we finally got our food the burgers were well done ( not how we ordered them). I know every place can have a bad night, but poor service, food not done to order and the wait.....give me a break! Will definately not go back. However, my ten year old enjoyed his shrimp basket a half hour before our burgers arrived. read more

Ate lunch today at the Gateway Cafe and it was delicious! Even more wonderful than the food was the wait staff. They made it an enjoyable lunch! My waiter was Wil and he was attentive and strived to make sure that I had everything I needed. The food came out quickly and was exactly as described by Wil. He suggested that I have the French Onion soup and he did not steer me wrong. Made fresh daily and you can tell. The other server Miche was hilarious! It was nice to have such an intimate conversation with the staff. They were very slow so since I was eating lunch alone at the bar it was nice to have someone to talk to. They made me feel comfortable and cared about what they were doing. I will definitely be returning to the Gateway for another meal, I am hoping to get one of them as my server because I would feel comfortable that they would ensure another great experience. read more

To be fair, once we received our food it was delicious. However, everything with regards to service is without a doubt the worst in the DuBois area. I was with a group of seven and we arrived at 6pm. Water or specialty drinks did not arrive at our table until 6:45pm. Our server spoke negatively about the bartender (which was correct because the bartender was flat-out rude to customers) but it was very distasteful. Our food finally arrived to the table at 7:30pm, at which time we also asked for our checks due to long timeframe. At 8:15 we still hadn't received our checks, then the server came back to add drinks to the checks because she had forgotten to do it. I had to leave my wife at the restaurant so I could go relieve the babysitter at 8:30 because we were already an hour past our scheduled time and STILL hadn't received the check. Oh, and the bartender refused to get the check for our friend and said "let the server do it" so she could go talk to a friend. Never, ever going there again. The bartender especially sucks at her job, but the servers weren't much better. read more

Ate there for first time tonight. Excellent service and food. Would highly recommend, will be one of our regular stops.
