Manager needs to be restrained. He never should talk to a customer the way he spoke to our table. Because of his attitude I excepted his taking care of the check for food that was mediocre at best. The service was good but that's where the good stopped. The Brussel sprouts were burnt and the insides were hard. The hamburger that was supposed to be pink was well done. That b being said it got worse. The manager told us that people in Dubois liked them burnt and hard. He was rude and told us many times why we were wrong. By the way, my husband graduated culinary school and has worked in many places during the last 50 years and has NEVER been told to burn the sprouts. As we were finishing our drinks we remarked to each other that it was Tuesday and there was Noone here. The manager said if we continued to make comments he was going to ask us to leave. We were talking to each other and he chose to sit nearby. I have never been in such a hostile environment in a restaurant as that place. Was excited to try the Public house, when we first entered it was pretty dead and quiet, they definitely needed some music playing. We sat outside which was very nice, the mules were good. Service was slow considering how dead it was. The corn fritters were excellent. Our main dishes weren't bad but definitely could have been more seasoned. Overall 3/5.. would possibly try it again just to see if any of the other entrees are better. read more

I really want to like this place, but it always disappoints me. The prices are high for the portion sizes, and the quality fails to make up the difference. Neither the service nor the kitchen have anything going for them. It took an hour and forty-five minutes for our party of four to have dinner. First, they "cleared our ticket" --waiting patiently-- then only three of the four dinners were served. Ten minutes later the fourth dinner made its way to our table. After all that, the waitress failed to return to collect our payment. We had to track her down to pay so we could leave. What a fiasco! This place needs help. P.S. This is a gem of a place that might not be the easiest to find but it is worth it. The restaurant is an old house in the middle of downtown. The parking lot is a little past the restaurant but it is very easy and fast walking distance. When you walk in, everything looks clean and new. The colors are bright whites, greens and black. Our waitress Sue and Brian the bartender were both amazing...went above and beyond in every aspect. I want to hang out with them on a Friday! I was there last Friday with my husband and parents. My dad and husband both got beers on special. My husband tried a new beer and loved it. For dinners, we got the Asian bowl, a shrimp salad, grilled chicken sandwich with tots, and the margarita pizza. Everything was wonderful. We cleaned all our plates and took only two pieces of pizza home. We will be back...maybe even this week! read more

Stopped in while passing through Dubois and this place really caught my attention. On the outside it looks like a house but once you step foot inside, it's modern and nicely decorated. I sat at the bar with my partner and I got the Caesar salad chicken wrap along with tater tots! My bf got the Buffalo chicken macaroni which he said was very delicious! Our server was so sweet, very attentive and had a lot of recommendations for drinks and foods. I also ended up getting one of their signature cocktails, which was good! Greeted with cheap IKEA decor, cold drafty atmosphere, and mediocre staff. I have no clue how this restaurant is rated so highly. Might be cold due to lack of customers. I asked for coffee. It was ice cold. No cream was even offered. Never got refills. Never was offered refills. Never returned to see how our food was. Just down right awful service. The food? Lord almighty. Pitiful. Corn fritters? No. They're hush puppies with corn. I got a salad with chicken. Forgot the fries.House made poppyseed dressing? I just tasted oil. Steak sandwich? Steak-umms with canned cheese. Walked in and was impressed by the decor and cleanliness! Every staff person said hello and welcomed me in. I sat at the counter because that's what I do. They were in the change from breakfast to lunch but said that both were available. I had the taste for lunch, so ordered from that menu. I ordered the corn fritters as an appetizer because Iit sounded so good. I wasn't dissatisfied. For my meal, I ordered the Philly Hoagie with beer cheese, grilled onions, and peppers and a choice of side. The fresh roll was outstanding and the beer cheese and homemade coleslaw was again outstanding! Had a conversation with the two owners about how hard it is to start up a business. I would recommend this as a stop for anyone near to DuBois, PA. I will go again! It's amazing for only being opened for16 months the awards displayed because of their excellence. Food looked as good as it tasted. Because of this, I totally forgot to take pictures. I also noticed they have a bank of craft beers. Looking forward to a fried bologna sandwich on the menu soon ! We are in Dubois for the week and selected this place for our first meal. It was a great choice! Parking is just a bit down the street in a large lot with a sidewalk to make your way back to the house-looking restaurant. When you enter, the space is inviting and open: a bar is to the right and dinner seating is in an L shape. Decor is minimal and clean. Our server was fantastic with suggestions and explanations. Of note are the dirty, nonalcoholic sodas. I had the Diet Pepsi strawberry cream. My husband tried a draught choice: a local peach cobbler IPA. The server offered a sample, but my husband just went for it and enjoyed. There are enough options for all food preferences, including gluten-free. I went with the Asian bowl with grilled shrimp. My husband had a chickpea/kale bowl with grilled chicken. Sadly, we did not partake in the yummy sounding desserts. We might come back later in the week. I had high hopes which quickly came crashing down. Came in shortly after 12 on a Sunday, brunch menu was in place. I was surprised that the place was nearly empty. The restaurant looked clean and inviting. We were told to seat ourselves. We selected a booth and waited for our server. We After a few minutes discussion with my teen children, we decided to order. My oldest son ordered chocolate chip pancakes. They looked ok other than not having many chocolate chips. My daughter ordered a breakfast burrito that she said was fine. My younger son ordered a blt. It was as expected it would be. I ordered a breakfast burger. It came without the toppings listed on the menu, just bacon and a fried egg. It was cooked properly, but was completely unseasoned and bland. Might try again, but if so it will definitely be later in the day. read more

Was at "The Public House" yesterday, January 11, for lunch (first visit). The restaurant was moderately busy, but the waitress kept up with customers. I had an "Asian bowl" (can't remember exact name!), and it was excellent & I would order again. What I particularly liked, was either the cook or other kitchen staff member, delivered the food! It was refreshing to see a person deliver food, that was not clearing tables or handling cash! I forgot to mention that the place was spotless! If you want good, flavorful, fresh food then you have to try this place. I've been here several times and tried breakfast, lunch and dinner items. I have yet to get a bad meal, service or experience. They have something for everyone, and the beer selection is great, changing and growing all the time. Even had some really good N/A beers, (yes, they really do exist) that didn't taste like watered down versions of brand names. Nice, clean, and newly renovated interior. I had hoped this would have been a positive review for a new restaurant in DuBois however, my first visit there was a disappointment. I arrived on a Sunday at 11:55. A good sign was that I was the 12th person in line to be seated behind a party of 2 and one of 9. Since I was a single I decided to sit at the counter. My waitress came by at 12:00 and gave me a lunch menu. I asked her if they were still serving breakfast. She told me that on Sundays they stopped serving breakfast at 12:00. When I told her that I had been there 5 minutes prior to 12 she reluctantly said she would ask the kitchen if they would still take a breakfast order. She came back, ignored me for several minutes then told me that they would not, they were on the lunch menu. I had a cup of coffee, left and drove to the Bobette. We made a reservation for a party of 16. Everything was set up and ready for us when we arrived. The waitress was friendly and professional and did a great job of keeping all of our orders straight. The food arrived in a timely fashion and we were all able to eat at the same time together. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious!
