I was pissed off at the time but I forgive her. She seems really sweet otherwise. Other than that one experience mentioned above, I have nothing but positive things to say about this organization. The food is generally very very good. The coffee is great first thing in the morning. And it's a warm place to go to get out of the freezing snow. The clients are pretty friendly to each other - very low drama. it's a nice place to go to sit and relax and have some conversation with other clients. And let's not forget the MAIN reason why they are there - to preach the Gospel during a worship service that is available on Sundays. The church service is not required in order to eat. I appreciate the church service. I just wish the Sunday pastor, the white guy in the glasses, would play some different music. He plays the same rap music song every week. It was a first time for my daughter and I but they were very nice with giving us a brief tour about both facilities, how they worked, when they expected deliveries, and how people were able come in via appointment or walk in to get clothing (point system) and groceries. Everyone was so nice. It was a great first experience for my daughter for her volunteer service so we definitely would come back to do the grocery side.

The Ronald McDonald House is geared towards kids and their families who may be in need of medical attention and need 'intermittent' housing and services while their children are being treated at nearby hospitals. The place is huge and offers so many services, entertainment and such for the kids and families who are here. While the Ronald McDonald house implies that McDonald's may play a large part in funding the place that isn't necessarily so. Mc Donald's does contribute but there are many other contributors that fund to keep the Ronald McDonald working in tip top condition. Definitely a wonderful place for a wonderful purpose!

Working, going to school and being a single mother i was looking for as much support as i could find. They didn't agree with My going to school, they thought I should be doing vocational training instead of getting a degree...that might work for some but education is how I see myself getting out of low income and poverty. My therapist suggested for me to explain to them how I was feeing, something I was afraid to do. I told my care manager who was also the director of joy house that I didn't feel supported or understood and that I felt like i was treated differently to which she replied you dony feel supported because you don't have the same value system as us and you are treated differently because you walk around like your better then everyone else. After a series of events that were blown out of proportion, it was clear to me they didn't want me there, I was kicked out given 5 days to find a new place to live with my one year old a week before Christmas. I called the pastor who owns the house to ask for more time, never got a call back. My dad called twice and never got a call back. I have never in my life felt so judged and put down by a place that is supposed to be uplifting and transforming. I don't see how that is even legal when my rent was paid until the end of the month. The thing I don't understand the most is how they could give a single mother 5 days to find a new place for her and her child when we were staying there due to homelessness in the first place. If you don't fit their mold, they will leave you high and dry. All I can say is that the experience has made me a stronger more driven person.

Our friend Thomas Hails died much too young of AIDS, it is OK you know his name, he has been gone a…read morelong time and his family knows I took care of him. There have been giant holes in our hearts ever since he died. This is one of the reasons we always participate in "Dining Out For Life." The Angels took such good care of him before he passed, oh so many years ago. A simple check on him and the dropping off of food made me feel better when I couldn't be there. He would get a kick out of the idea that the ball-n-chain and I were out eating and drinking beer and toasting his name. "Drink to me" were Pablo Picasso's last words. Thomas was an artist and would have been down with that. There are always people at the event who have envelopes so you can drop off an extra bit of money for the cause. I highly encourage it. If I win the lotto, this is where my money is going.

Donations are able to be dropped off on Wednesdays. There are a lot of high quality name brand items. This is a great way to recycle. Reduce waste and support food security, in Golden. Today I scored two like new brooks brothers wool sweaters for $40 and a stack of paper plates for a dollar! I highly recommend shopping, supporting, donating & volunteering at the CAG. It's also a great place to pick up odds and ends for the kitchen.
