Both of my children went through the Goddard School from their infant and toddler years right through Pre-K. We were with them through first steps, first solids, first words, navigating a pandemic, potty training, having a sibling, losing teeth, learning to ride a bike and write their name, making friends and becoming self-assured and self-sufficient 5 year olds that were ready to make a seamless transition to Kindergarten. Not only is the facility and outdoor play spaces beautiful, but the school follows a curriculum that is shared each week and brings in outside companies, librarians and more to do specialized activities onsite as well. From bike days to pizza/pj fundraisers, apple pie making for Thanksgiving, to art shows, there was always something to look forward to. When we looked at many daycares when my first child was born, this school stood out leaps and bounds above the rest for having an educational plan in place, not just child care. I never imagined my experience with a "pre-school" to be so amazing! Everything about this place took me by surprise in ALL the very best of ways! As a first time mom, I was TERRIFIED to send my first born baby boy into the care of anyone! I was definitely a helicopter mom with him and was probably a handful for the staff at Goddard. However they never made me feel that way, they never made me feel "silly". Instead they wrapped me with warmth in their words and gestures and put me at ease EVERY chance they got. This approach was not (and still is not) just present with their outstanding owner Sarah but also the demeanor of ALL staff members here. I've worked in customer service my whole life in one way shape or another and I know what it takes to make people feel safe. The staff at the Goddard school of Reading go WAY above and beyond to not only ensure the safety and well being of the children but also the well being of the parents/guardians and caretakers that entrust their little loved ones with them each day. And that's just the tip of the iceberg because the amount of educational measures that are taken into account each day to grow these little minds is equally amazing! My son flourished from a tot to a pre-k student here. He is now in 3rd grade and top of his class! My 4 year old daughter currently attends Goddard and is gathering the same immense level of knowledge each time she is there. I am really not sure how they do it, but this place creates magic! My two boys went to the Goddard School (Reading) and we absolutely loved it. The teachers are loving, caring and engage the kids so well. My boys have very different personalities, learning styles and strengths/weaknesses, and the teachers were able to meet each child where he needed help and encouragement. They also worked WITH us as parents through any behavioral issues so that the same methods can be reinforced at home and in school, which was phenomenal. Communication was not easy during Covid since we were not allowed to have in person meetings during that time, so there was a lot of extra effort and creativity put in, and this reflects the heart of the teachers. Another thing to point out is that the admin staff was well-organized compared to other preschools we've been to. I can't stress how important that is when a school needs to adapt quickly to a shifty situation like Covid and need to CLEARLY communicate all the adjustments to parents. It could have been very messy and frustrating, but Sarah the owner is fantastic and the directors of the school are always very responsive. My son attended the Goddard school for two years and is now headed on to Kindergarten. He had a fantastic experience there and we feel so lucky that he was able to get a spot. The school is lovely the classrooms are very inviting and were always clean and tidy. Even during a global pandemic, I felt safe sending him there. The staff was knowledgable and very kind. I feel that my son is very well prepared for kindergarten academically. He especially enjoyed all of the STEAM focused activities. The curriculum seemed to have a great balance of structure and choice. The school was also fantastic for his social development. He formed some very strong friendships and was so happy to go to school each day. This summer he was very excited to learn that a couple of his buddies will be in his kindergarten class next year. I just have to say Goddard in Reading Ma is great. You would have no regrets. Sarah the owner is there everyday and makes sure you and your family is comfortable and taken care off. I have my daughter at this daycare and have since she was an infant. She is now almost 4. I felt the need to write this review because I feel like the reviews on here are the exception, not the rule. 1. My little one has loved all her teachers and has had pretty much the same kids in her school throughout so they must be doing something right. One of her teachers, Ms Diane would lay with her to help her get to sleep because she was having trouble for a while. That is literally the only break she (Ms Diane) had all day and she sacrificed her alone time to give my daughter piece of mind. 2. My girl had an issue with another boy in the class that kept biting her and eventually hit her (in the span of a few days). The day care and Sarah immediately dealt with it and separated them as well as putting measures in place with the little boy to make sure their parents dealt with the issues (I wasn't privy to the exact measures as there are privacy issues but I do know they did more than just separate their classes). 3. To the response about working parents (I am a director at a 50Mil Dollar company). Yes, it is hard that you need to keep your little one home for 24 hours after a fever but they do that to protect the other kids and if they didn't do this, you would end up with a daycare that has kids getting sick more often and can't come in anyway. The minute you get one child with of hand, foot and mouth or anything contagious they use a system to help clean the classrooms. 4. I literally toured over 8 daycares before sending my girl here and NONE of them had what Goddard did. There are very few part-time kids here but those that are feel just as welcome...how do I know? My daughter and I have play dates with a part time little boy and his mom and I have asked her. 5. Kids fall, they are learning to walk and learning how to play nice. Kids get bruises and bumps. This will happen at all daycares, it's how the daycare deals with it that matters...and Goddard does it well. And you child will have diaper rash, they cannot possibly change a diaper every time a child pees, there are just too many kids but Goddard has a rule about how often the diapers should be changed. 6. Ok, they do a few things that annoy me like putting her sippy cup upside down in her bag, encouraging me to stop her thumb sucking when i don't think she ready and some other small things but overall this is a great school with staff that really care. read more

Our two sons (4 years and 1 year at the time) started at Goddard during the pandemic. They'd both been in a different daycare before. We'd been on a waitlist for a while and knew this is where we wanted them to be. . . but were hesitant because we didn't know how they would feel starting at new place when their teachers and friends were wearing masks. We shouldn't have worried! The first words out of my oldest son's mouth when we picked them up that day were: "It's so FUN in there!" But everyday, Sarah (the owner) and the administrators (Cheryl and Joelle) go out of their way to make our kids -- and everyone's -- feel like they belong. There's so much personal attention at the school: teachers loan books or write personal notes (shout out to Mrs. O!), or find special climbing toys or dance moves or visit even after your kid moves to a new classroom (Ms. Gina, Ms. Lorraine and Ms. Melissa!), administrators answer emails the night before you forget to order pizza for your kid's birthday or write entertaining, informative newsletters (Ms. Cheryl!), or always make sure to give your kid a wink and a hug (Ms. Joelle!). The faculty and staff have been there a long time, which speaks to the positive culture they've created. Sarah is always available and connected to the kids and parents. She makes time to chat when she doesn't need to. She once spent a long time on the phone with me, advising me about how to support our kid ***at his old preschool before he was even at Goddard*** where he was struggling a bit. He has flourished at Goddard. (So has our youngest; loves it!) They've done a great job during the pandemic, implementing daily protocols like temperature-taking, separating classes into smaller cohorts, and having organized drop-off. They've adjusted as CDC guidance has changed; always staying up-to-date on recommendations. Their programming and events are great: pizza and PJ day with donations to charity, Kona Ice trucks on hot days, water play days in the summer. Both of my kids are learning new things all the time and making strong friendships. They receive individual attention tailored to their interests, temperaments, and academic levels. But the thing that most impresses me is the warmth, openness, and joy radiating from that school. One afternoon early in our time there, I was chatting with Sarah after pick-up saying how well the kids seemed to be doing and how grateful we were that they enjoyed school. I couldn't put my finger on why . . . but she summed it up when she said, "Oh yeah! We're all about loving your kids!" And THAT is the magic. Totally worth the waitlist. :-) (P.S. If you're on the waitlist, I recommend calling every so often so they know you're serious and interested. They are an incredible school, so everyone else wants to go there, too.) read more

So far this daycare earns the best score from me even though we decided not to bring our son to this daycare anymore. Our baby boy seemed much much happier than he was in the previous daycare and my husband and I, both looked forward to receiving the pictures the infant class teacher, Jen would send to us during the day. Jen's daily note for him was great too as it allowed us to take the glimpse of little David's day. The facility is new and clean with lots of indoor and outdoor toys. So, you wonder why we took him out of this daycare? Well, I didn't feel really comfortable after my son had two accidents in 3 weeks and diaper rash. I understand that at his age (10 month old), it's easier to get bumps here and there. But, I truly believe that both accidents could have been prevented especially the most recent accident. I shared my safety concern with the owner, Sarah and the director, Cherly and they both seemed to understand my concern and the questionable object had been removed the very next day. So, for now, my son is with his grandma which is the best daycare ever for him and his grandma adores him. So, now you wonder why I'm giving 4 stars? Well, I really appreciate the way Sarah handled this unfortunate situation. I also believe that she really wanted to create a daycare center that is safe and provides higher quality service. It's very personal for her and both my husband and I could tell that she was very upset by what happened and took the right course of action to address the issue. So, bottom line, when our baby boy develops a motor skill, we plan to try this school again. Perhaps, within 6 months? We'll have to see. We're just grateful to his grandma for taking care of him and for loving him unconditionally. Grandma is the best! read more

I am not sure about their service as a school because I do not have young children, but having worked there I can for sure say that it is a terrible place to work. The director (not the owner) is terrible. She was disrespectful beyond anything I have ever experienced. She was passive aggressive constantly and downright mean. Working there under this "boss" could be compared to a middle school bully. If it weren't for the director I would have loved to continued working there. My family and I are moving to Reading so I called The Goddard School to see whether they would have space in their infant classroom for my 9 month old daughter in a few months (obviously a long shot - this isn't my first experience with day care) and the woman on the phone literally LAUGHED at me and then very rudely informed me (in a very condescending tone of voice) that "umm, yeah, we're actually pretty full - we probably won't have space until July 2017" and hung up. Didn't ask if I wanted a tour of the facility and to be put on the waitlist for when space opened up - nothing. How wonderful for you that you have so much business that you can afford to be so rude to prospective parents. Oh, by the way - I'm also currently pregnant so I would have been looking to send both of my children eventually. I'll take a hard pass and find a full time nanny. read more

Our daughter has been going here for a year now and we love it; she loves it too! I feel that the environment is friendly and fun! Our little girl comes home talking about her friends. There is enough structure that a routine is established and she knows what to expect. At the same time, the weekly themes and play based learning are so much fun for her. I am amazed at what she learns and brings home in her conversations. She also loves her teachers. They have recently implemented an electronic reporting system as well. So, daily reports and photos come to your phone. Sarah, the owner, really seems to be passionate about her school and genuinely cares. This is a personal review for the Goddard School located in Reading, MA. We joined the Goddard School (Reading, MA) family in December 2015 our child was ~20 months old. We had been the wait list for a few months (not unexpected because the quality of the school is so high) and we were VERY pleasantly surprised when we received the call that a space had opened up sooner than expected. We, of course, leaped at the opening and have been beyond pleased ever since. In a short time after beginning, we noticed a sharp increase in our daughter's speech and language development! The curriculum, amazing balance between learning and play, and the amazing teachers all contributed to my daughter's learning. This trajectory continued from her toddler class though Preschool 2. It was an easy choice to enroll our 2nd child in the Infant classroom. At every juncture, all of the teachers (too many to list!), directors (Cheryl and Joelle) and owner (Sarah) have been nothing short of wonderful with our children. I cannot recommend this school enough. Had we not relocated, our children would have graduated from this great place! If you're considering Goddard School in Reading, MA, do call and speak with Sarah (owner). Don't be discouraged by the wait list. Best for part-time care. My child attended the Goddard School for about a year. The school is akin to any large corporate daycare. The space is very nice and meets expected standards. My child was safe and care was as expected. However, there are two drawbacks to this school which I caution all professional, full time working parents to consider: cost benefit and flexibility. The school is by far the most expensive in its class for the area. Parents will save some money and get, in my opinion, equally good care and education at other nearby centers. The second is fit for professional working parents. During our stay, the school seemed to cater mostly to those needing care on a part time basis and to situations in which one parent worked in the immediate area and could leave work regularly. The "health policy" is very broad allowing for the school to call for a child to be removed for not being able to manage in the classroom (read fussy--even for infants). I recieved so many calls for fussiness or otherwise vague symptoms open to interpretation that my employer finally asked if there was anywhere else that we could seek care. For professional parents (executives and the like) please consider that you might be getting upwards of three emails or calls a day. Along with the inevitable legitimate childhood illnesses be prepared to leave meetings, trips, and important deliverables for non-issues. The school was not responsive to our concerns (even once suggesting that it would be nice if grandparents--living in another part of the country--could be here to come get my child when the school called). It was not a sustainable situation and resulted in wasted sick days, and trips to the pediatrician for a well child. Even our pediatrician began to get frustrated. In conducting research into other facilities I learned that this type of administration and interpretation is not common. Of the other area facilities, including Boston metro, Goddard was the only school that called for general fussiness, and refused to administer over the counter medication with a doctor's prescription. My child was a full time attendee with most of his classmates only attending part time or a few hours a day. I didn't want my child to begin to notice staff checking his/her watch waiting for "Sally's" parents to show up so he/she could go home. I sought a spot at another facility more in line with the needs of higher level professional parents. While they continued to tell us how much they cared for "Sally" neither the owner nor the Director inquired why we were leaving. I recommend that professional working parents seeking full time care look for a better fit. read more

My son has been going to this school since he turned 2.9. he is now 4 and he LOVES this school! My son has learned so much at the Goddard and everyday we get a progress report on what he did that day! The school is really big on healthy foods and living, which i appreciate! It is very clean, bright and an awesome outdoor playspace!The main reason i LOVE this school is because all the teachers have some type of degree in early childhood development, etc. My James has really improved in all aspects and i owe alot of that to this school. The only downside to this school it is it very costly. My son goes 2 days, half days 7-1 and we pay $488. Wish the school was alittle cheaper, but i guess you get what you pay for, and EDUCATION is Priceless. read more

This school is the best! I really like the fact that Sarah the owner goes out of her way to be helpful and accommodate family needs no matter what the circumstance is. The school does a lot of higher purpose projects like donating to families in need and you really end up showing your children how to give at a young age. We moved to the Reading area a couple of years ago. After trying 2 different daycares and having some nightmarish experiences, we sent our 2 children to Goddard. We are very happy with this daycare. The site is very clean, has spacious well lit classrooms and a nice outdoor play area. Teachers are friendly and caring. Both my children love their school and seem happy. They have a sound curriculum; my 4 1/2 year old is able to read short sentences!! My children between the two of them have been in 6 different daycares and this school is by far my favorite. Cheryl who is the director of the school is experienced, competent and hires great teachers. Sarah the owner takes time to chat with the parents everyday and get their input. It gives a sense of warmth and comfort to the parents. I agonized over finding a good, trustworthy, caring place for my children where they spend so much time away from me and felt that my needs were met here, I would highly recommend this school to any parent. read more

We can's say enough good things about Goddard school! Caring teachers, good facilities and well-planned activities! My son joined Goddard last March. At that time, my son didn't speak English and had never been separated from family. When he began, the teachers made a great effort helping him transition to this new environment. I still vividly remember Ms. Diane would gently hold his hand or give him a hug when he enters the room, and Ms Stephanie downloaded English transition software onto her cellphone to communicate with him. Now, one year later, he has been eager t go to school everyday, and has been thrilled at school! He enjoys listening to circle time stories, learning to write and count, playing in the playground, etc. We are parents with dual career, and have long commute to work. There are a couple of times that we are late for picking up due to traffic, and my son is usually waiting peacefully in the office, with a book or some snacks in his hands. It is so important to have a school for child that you could completely trust in. The school hold biannual meeting with parents discussing growth progress of the child, and provide instructive advises. Their curriculum is designed daily with language, math, art, music, science, social modules, and is well planned. They provide daily report on the kids activity so that we can know what our son did during his stay at school. They also offer a meal plan with a joined company, which helped saving us a lot of time. And my son can have hot lunch! We are having very good experience with Goddard School, and would like to recommend it to friends. read more

I highly recommond the Goddard School in Reading, MA. Both of my daughters started there around 2.5 years of age, and my oldest is graduate of the Goddard School pre-K program. She was more than prepared for kindergarten, thanks to the great program at the Goddard school. From the first time I walked in to tour the school I have been absolutely pleased with the program. Every teacher has been wonderful, getting to know my children as individuals, and nurturing their develpment and education. It's truly amazing to see how much my daughters have learned. And to them, it's fun because they learn through play. They always looked forward to going to school and seeing their friends and teachers. The students get a lot of outside play time, which I think is important. Not only is it a good experience for children, but for the parents as well. Drop offs and pick ups were always smooth. And at the end of the day, you get a little report about what your child learned, how much they ate, how long they napped, etc. The teachers, director, and owner all made the effort to know the girls and I. Lines of communication were always open. I recommend the Goddard School in Reading, MA because I always knew my girls were being well cared for and most importantly, because I always knew they were SAFE. read more

My husband picked this center to place our two year old twins in after meeting the owners Sarah and Kris before they had even opened. Our Children had the best possible learning experience with loving care we could have asked for. We never worried about leaving them in the care of thier teachers while we went to work. From the director to the teachers in the classroom everyone is hands on. It was not until they were mid way through kindergarden that we witnessed just how much the Goddard had given our kids a head start with their education. They are both reading and doing math beyond thier grade level. I think that this is due to the schools philosophy of learning thorough creative play. I recommend the Goddard as often as possible to people looking for a warm loving environment where all the fundamentals for early learning are present. read more

I had my 2 year old as a student at Goddard and highly recommend it. Its not just day care - its so much more. The teachers are excellent. Every time I dropped my daughter off they were welcoming and informative. They always give a nice summary of how she did that day. The owner is always there and makes it a point to visit with me when I am there. My daughter learned so much - from vocabulary to manners. The experience really was terrific. I have had my kids at this school over 3 years now. My daughter started there around 3 years old, and my son started when he was a couple of months shy of 2 years old. After reading some of the negative reviews, I would like to tell you couple of things: this is a highly popular school in the area, it is hard to find space in the younger classrooms as the demand is very high, which is a very nice thing as it tells you that people are happy with this place. However once you get in, you will see that it's well worth the wait. The other thing is the admin staff, they are great people, I can't imagine them being rude or laughing at you for whatever you ask. They have been always on top of communication and organization. The management is also flexible with scheduling, so after you find a spot, you can make changes giving a notice reasonably ahead of time. I would say if you are looking for a good school in the area, this is the best, actually I can say, compared to our previous experiences in a couple other towns, this school is much much better, less corporate compared to BH (and much more friendlier), and more organized and educational compared to home-care. The teachers are kind, loving, and helpful. The management is always kind and responsive if you need anything, and the director Sarah, she is absolutely awesome, accommodating to your family's needs, caring for safety and health, caring for community, and never trying to get more money out of you. The curriculum is educational in a fun and loving way. My daughter has learned a lot and grown for the best and she was already reading and writing at Kindergarten level before leaving this school. They also have lots of outdoor activities in the summer time, water plays, soccer etc. They provide breakfast at no extra cost, and I also have to tell this school is not expensive at all; if you visit other similar schools (I have done so many of such tours) in the greater Boston area, you will find that most of them charge a lot more for what they offer. I cannot thank enough to these people for all these years, and for being a second family to my kids. When I was looking at schools for my (now) 2 1/2 year old son a year ago, I found online reviews to be very useful in trying to gage a sense of community at different programs/schools. We have had a great experience at the Goddard School in Reading. When we first started, we were concerned about our son transitioning smoothly, as he had previously been bounced around due to circumstances out of our control. Also, having an older sister who often takes center stage, he was shy and not very talkative as she would often speak for him. Both the school's administration and teachers were warm and sensitive to his needs. As I raised my concerns early on with the teachers, Sarah (the owner) and her director Cheryl, I received detailed feedback and suggestions. And they followed up with me on his progress regularly - I never had to chase them down, which was refreshing. I truly have felt like they care about my son's development and that he is not just a number to them. Fast forward a year - our son is happy and actually wants to go to school in the morning. His shyness has fallen to the wayside and his speech while not perfect, has improved tremendously. I also find the Goddard to be extremely flexible and helpful to its families. We have a daughter who is in pre-k at another school, which has closings more frequently than the Goddard. Sarah has allowed our daughter to come into their pre-k program on these school breaks which has been an incredible help. Our daughter has enjoyed those weeks at the Goddard and has given us only positive feedback about the teachers and assistants, as well as the friends she has made there. During those weeks she has appeared challenged and engaged and looks forward to returning on future school breaks. She comes home with stories about activities she participated in and what she learned that day. Especially being a working parent and the guilt that can at times go along with that choice, it is great to see the excitement and happiness in both our children. read more

My daughter attended Goddard for two and a half years. I have nothing but good things to say about the school, the curriculum, and the staff. My daughter loved going there and I recommend it to all my friends in the area looking for daycare. My daughter is leaving preschool knowing how to read, but more importantly she has grown significantly socially and emotionally thanks to the teachers at Goddard. My husband and I both work full time (corporate attorney and architect) and needed the reliable full-day daycare that Goddard provided. My two children have attended Goddard in Reading for the past 3 years. While my son has moved onto Elementary, my daughter still attends this year and it has been a wonderful experience. My children are well cared for, and were provided a nice foundation for learning. The staff has been very sensitive to their food allergies, going above and beyond to accommodate them. As a working parent, communication and having a "heads up" on things well in advance is so critical, and the Goddard does this very well, which takes off a lot of stress. I had two children at the Goddard School over the course of three years. My children are quite attached to their classmates as well as the staff. We were all always greeted with a smile. Any concerns were addressed immediately. The extra programs such as music presenters, the fire department, dental education, etc. were always enthusiastically shared on the ride home. My son especially loved the Mighty Kicks program (soccer). We also enjoyed the family events such as the annual Halloween party. It was always a nice opportunity to meet and chat with other parents. My daughter attended the Goddard for 4 years and our experience was top notch. My older child attended two different day care facilities and we visited many others, so we saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Goddard was far above any of the others. The staff was always friendly, yet professional, the facility always clean and colorful, never sterile, and our daughter loved it! Not only did she learn important reading and writing skills that helped her transition easily into kindergarten this year, she learned critical interpersonal skills (i.e., be nice to your peers) that will help her throughout her life. Our twin boys had attended the wonderful monthly Story Time sessions open to the public when The Goddard School first opened and just loved going there. The facility itself is well planned and beautiful and we enjoyed the programs thoroughly. Our sons were receiving Early Intervention services for speech delay that ended when they turned 3 in June and will start again in the fall at a town sponsored preschool. For the summer, we knew just where we wanted to go and felt so fortunate to secure two spots in The Goddard School's Summer Camp program. It was a wonderful experience for our boys and they couldn't get out of the car fast enough to join their teachers and friends. It was impressive that even before our first day, the owner Sarah and Cheryl, who coordinates the students and scheduling, wanted to know what our boys' interests were and asked for a copy of their Early Intervention reports so they could be geared toward activities that would most benefit them. They were friendly, helpful and full of sage advice that reassured us that we were about to enter a special place. Actually, our EI coordinators were especially enthusiastic when told that we had decided on The Goddard School. Their reputation is outstanding in the field and the curriculum and staff are professional and excellent. Our boys made solid progress following the structure of their class activities which fosters learning, creativity, teamwork and good sportsmanship. They would ask if they were going to see to go see Miss Diane, Miss Meghan and Miss Stephanie that day and would happily get ready to be on our way! We loved that they seemed so engaged and couldn't believe their development even in areas like potty training and politeness. We appreciated the follow-up the teachers provided along with their detailed feedback and suggestions geared toward your child. We also really liked the general information passed along regularly that highlighted things of interest to do in the area to bring families together. The Goddard School is a top tier school where your child will be challenged and enriched by the experience. read more
