So hubs and I randomly stopped in here during the World Cup, and now that that's over we are definitely coming back. The atmosphere was great, but not quite what we were looking for at the time. It's dark and intimate without a hint of pretension. They have QR codes for the attached food place (The Yellow Ranger) at the tables so you can order from there and not have to worry about being interrupted. The bar tenders are all nice and professional and the drinks are great. Get a mule or just a beer, either way the person behind the bar will be friendly and helpful. Seating is clean and spacious. We ended up moving from our large booth spot to a high top table since it was just the two of us. We swapped with a group of women who ended up at a table without enough chairs. I don't know if it's always that crowded or if the soccer game brought out extra folks. Like I said, we'll definitely be back. read more

The Golden Horn is such a swell spot. It's got a spacious layout with pool tables, decent size bar and seating. I like that they have traditional seating along with 70s-style upholstered booths, sofas, etc. Depending on the amount of people in your party, there is seating to accommodate. I'm a big fan of frozen drinks and they make some really good ones. Like knock your socks off good and be careful not to drink too many good. So it gets pretty busy at certain times but I like that whether it's super busy or not you're still able to grab a seat with friends and be able to hear each other talking. It's such a friendly place to spend time and we've actually met a lot of new friends there. Food is yum, from Yellow Ranger and that will be a separate review. Finally came one Saturday because heard great things about the bar and yellow ranger. Dark and moody, it's a good place to grab a drink or hang with friends. Not sure if it was that day, but there was no AC and it was extremely warm inside (even warmer with all the people). Bar seating is limited, but there are tables and chairs in the back near the bathroom. If you come to watch a game, recommend sitting at the bar only as this is the only place with a tv. The seating in the bar has no tv. For bar service, it's okay. The initial person at the bar seemed in a bad mood and avoided all customers, but she could have been having a bad day. Another bartender came over and took our drink orders, he was super friendly and helpful with navigating the beer and cocktail menu. DRINKS Espresso martini- 5/5 Not sickly sweet, strong coffee flavor. Rim is chocolate Old Fashioned-5/5 This one is on draft, but great balance and recommend if you're looking for something to sip on Jellyfish IPA-5/5 You can never go wrong with a jellyfish lol FOOD So food is not actually by The Golden Horn, but another business called The Yellow Ranger which is right by the bar area. To order food, you can the QR code (you will find a bunch around) and order your food. The staff will then bring it over. Egg rolls-4/5 Deliciously crispy, not cheap on the filling, great with the chili dipping sauce. And not overly greasy and salty. Good for a quick bite at the bar Queso dip-2/5 Loved the combo of ingredients (especially the black garlic) but WAYY too salty--so much that it was hard to get the actual taste of the garlic and chili. Served with chips and a side of steamed broccoli. The broccoli really helped cut all the salt and fat. But because the chips were already salted and the queso was salty, it was salt on salt Loaded Fries-3/5 Nice thick slices of fried potatoes topped with green onions, lime aioli, chili crisp, cilantro. The top pieces were good, but by the middle and bottom they were extremely salty (same issue like the queso dip), greasy (soggy with oil). Awesome addition to North Loop area. They've taken over the Burger Tex place and have updated the interior. The bar area is to the right and is well lit due to the large windows that look out. There is a pool table and a couple of dart boards. Ample seating. The bar has a very 1960's/1970's aesthetic with old beer ads on the wall. There's lot of banquet style/ booth seating as well as high top tables to hang out at. We've been a few times on the weekends and there's normally one bartender when they open and early in the week after work. Not sure if it's like that when it's peak hour. But you'll probably have to monitor the bar line; most people head for the bar to order drinks after they've ordered from Yellow Ranger. The drinks are cool. They make a great martini and the frozen espresso martini is yummy. I also tried their beet mule; but I do wish they would go heavy on the beet taste. Happy Hour has a dollar off cocktails. Drink prices are reasonable for well crafted drinks so another plus. You can order food at Yellow Ranger, right next to the bar. I would say it's a very local crowd and a hang out for the many civic employees and ACC students from the surrounding area as well. read more

Absolutely love this place, probably my favorite new place I've been to that stands out above the rest. It has great vibes, lots of different nooks and experiences you can have hopping around the space - dart board and pool table area, diner booths, bar seating, several TVs to watch sports or events. It looks and feels like a dive bar but without a lot of the grime. The place facilitates friendly vibes, very easy to chat with other people. They must have done some soundproofing because sounds do not echo or bounce off, and even with music playing, you can easily have conversations without yelling. There are interesting cocktails - frozen concoctions like the iron whip (like a dole whip) and espresso martini (tastes like a frozen hot chocolate), and other cocktails using beets and horchata. The Americanized Chinese food served by Yellow Ranger is a great fit for this space. It is dark with all wood interior and no natural light, but the lighting is good throughout where it is not too dark but still feels dim enough like being in a perpetual evening state. We were there from 8-12 and time flew by and we could not tell it had gotten that late. read more

Cool place! I liked the chill ambiance and comfortable seating. You can hang in the dive bar front area or relax in the more loungey area in the side. I loved their take on a Long Island: an Oolong Island. Very tasty and sophisticated. I also felt the prices were reasonable, my drink was $11 as opposed to the insanity of $18 drinks elsewhere. This place is just the right amount of divey... reminds me of OG jackalope before it was a frat bar. The Yellow Ranger is why we came and why we'll come back, but this is a great spot to grab a drink... plenty of parking. We'll be having drinks here while waiting for a table at Komè from now on instead of Barfly's (no offense to barfly's, it will always be an institution... it's more about the patrons and how defensive they are over 'their' bar). This was our second visit and it was even better than the first. The food is delicious, there's a variety of spaces to get comfortable in, and the music all creates a laid back atmosphere which attracts a wide variety of local people who want to enjoy a casual and relaxed time. I can officially declare that their team of bartenders Pete and Devin make the best Dirty Martini in the city. I have to give a special thanks to one of the team members Jack for being so passionate and caring about us and every one of his customers. Overall it was a fantastic way to spend our Sunday especially with a team who is so dedicated to their customers' satisfaction. One of the best bars in Austin. Food is great, drinks are great, cool atmosphere, friendly bartenders.

Really nice place. Food was a let down only due to getting a very small amount for a high price. Ate the fried rice and paid 12.00 for a few spoonfuls and still starving. Tasted great but if you plan to eat order at least 3 helpings of the rice to feel fulfilled. Looked at other food coming out to other patrons and everything looks pretty small portion wise. Otherwise the design and ambience etc gets 5 stars. read more
