Kale avocado salad and heavenly quiche
    SL G.

Got a blueberry peach kale ginger smoothie today that was simply amazing. Also, the best kale salad I've ever had that came with a perfect quiche that melted in my mouth. Easily the best food I've eaten in Lake Placid. A worthy spot to visit, don't miss it.

A really cool little restaurant. Small, simple and delicious food. The staff is friendly. I had the biker bowl and a smoothie! Look forward to coming back.

The menu changes daily and is written on the craft paper shown at left as well as on a chalkboard by the register.

The Good Bite deserves its 5-star rating! Husband and 9 year-old loved the chili and cornbread, and I overstuffed myself a bit by eating both the outstanding sweet potato and broccoli rabe gribiche and nearly-as-awesome Thai chickpea soup (without the noodles to make it gluten free). The gribiche was truly unique and incredibly flavorful; I remarked to my husband that I wished I could cook this well. Whoever's making these recipes is a genius. There was room for us to sit at the sweet and well-designed counter along the window, but we got our lunch to go and had a picnic at the hotel. Would recommend this course if you're with a group or claustrophobic.

I've been to the Good Bite Kitchen a couple times and it never disappoints! I love the house salad with the maple vinaigrette - when I was there last weekend, it came with chickpeas, roasted peppers, smoked gouda and avocado. Everything is fresh, healthy, whole and delicious. My only recommendation would be to serve a bit more avocado on the salad - it came with about 1/4 of an avocado, but the salad was huge and there's no such thing as too much avo! The service, decor, style, menu - all perfection. So many yummy options from salads, grain bowls, zucchini noodles, sandwiches, and some sweets that sell out quickly! This cute little spot is a must-visit if you're in Lake Placid!

This place could convert even the most diehard meatatarian! The Good Bite focuses on what's most important in a vegetarian menu: fresh locally sourced ingredients, perfectly prepared, and served with loving care. With a menu board located just outside this very small gem of a restaurant, my excitement was piqued when I saw zucchini noodles. These 'noodles' can be chosen as the base for a menu "Bowl" selection. Other base choices are brown rice and spiral pasta. The zucchini noodles were beyond good, now I get the whole spiralized trend, whoa! They're an amazing vehicle to showcase the components for the chilled Jenna bowl: Black Beans, Corn, Peach, Cabbage, Arugula, Feta, Pumpkin seeds and Jalapeno Vinaigrette. Don't be deterred by the jalapeno part of this bowl. It's a beautiful balance to the bowl ingredients with no scary heat at all. Beyond yummy! The other bowl that was delicious was the chilled Harv: White Beans, Roasted Butternut Squash, Carrots, Kale, Parmesan Cheese, Walnuts and Sage Vinaigrette. Amazing! The Good Bite is more than deserving of all the great reviews and it makes you wonder what owner, Kayte Billerman, could do with a dinner menu. Special Notes: Many menu items can be made GF and V This is a very small, 8 seat (very small seats) venue; a former storage hallway turned restaurant. So, be prepared to wait for a seat OR take this scrumptious meal to go. Secret Garden anyone? Want the best seats on Mirror Lake to eat your amazing meal? Walk just 400' north, towards Hayes Street. You'll find a black gate right near the entrance to the Lake Placid Public Library. Open the black gate, close it behind you, and make your way down the stairs to a lovely quiet garden. Featuring a picnic table or the best seats in the house, 4 Adirondack chairs facing the lake. You'll be comfy and feel SO good about eatin' your veggies! *Don't forget to take your trash out with you ;o).

The Good Bite Kitchen is about five inches away from being too small to fit into, but I think that adds to the charm. The menu changes daily and is hung up right as you enter the dining area. The cashier that takes the order was beyond helpful with any questions that we had. This isn't your typical Lake Placid tourist trap; the prices are very reasonable and the food actually tastes good. There were two other families crammed into the dining area as we ate, and with how the kids were devouring the food their parents had bought them you'd think that they were eating chicken McNuggets smothered in Mountain Dew and Cheetos. Maybe they were just little hippies in the making and had already been brainwashed into a vegetarian lifestyle, but I was pretty amazed.

The narrow bowling alley layout of this cute restaurant seemed to turn some people off. We found it to be cute and cozy.

They do have a second floor dining area for large parties. English pub style. Food is relatively good. We are here 3 out of the 5 days we were in Lake Placid, mostly out of convenience. Service is okay, depending on who you get. They are super busy all the time and if your server isn't on point they will forget things. Their Ubu beer is the best beer there. The cranberry cider is pretty good as well. Shepards pie had very little meat/filling with a larger mashed potato ratio. Apple pie sounds great on paper but had little filling, leaving it super dry because it's baked as an individual personal pie. The whipped crème fraiche was delicious. Wings were nicely fried, crispy on outside and tender inside. Sourdough grilled cheese could've been better by using any other cheese besides Kraft singles. Clam chowder is superb. Beet salad was okay. Turkey burnt ends did not impress me and it's suppose to be their most popular dish. Chicken tenders were delicious. Fried fish was amazing! Huge piece of fish, served with tartar sauce and a side of incredible fries. Detroit style pizza is lackluster. The dough could've been cooked longer as it was underdone.

The spicy chicken sandwich was pretty basic. I was expecting a little more kick, but the heat level was mild at best. The chicken itself was decent, but it didn't have that bold flavor or crispiness that makes you crave it again. It felt more like a standard chicken sandwich with a light seasoning rather than something truly "spicy." The fries were actually the highlight of the meal. They were hot, crispy, and seasoned well -- definitely better than the sandwich in my opinion. If I were to go back, it would probably be more for the fries than the main dish. The restaurant itself was nice and clean, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Staff seemed fine and everything looked well kept, which I definitely appreciate. However, the price of the food didn't quite match the flavor or overall experience. For what you pay, I was expecting something a bit more memorable.

I checked the times online again (Google and their website) and saw they should be open, but weren't. So, I ate elsewhere. Ultimately, I came back on my last night in town and saw they were open and I sat at the bar. The bartender (a European guy) was less than friendly, never smiled, and hardly gave any attention to me, other than to ask what I wanted. Service throughout the entire visit was extremely poor from this guy. At one point, when I ordered my burger, I asked for cherry peppers to be added to it, he simply said "no!" and walked away. I asked him if he said no and he agreed that he did. I told him to come back and I showed him the part of the menu that showed where you can get bacon and cherry peppers added to the burger and this was what I was referring to, except that I only wanted the cherry peppers...He walked away. I ultimately got the burger and as I suspected, no cherry peppers were on it. This guy was literally one of the worst servers I've ever experienced. Along this topic, I noticed that several places in town had these European servers and I asked some locals about this, seems there isn't enough locals to handle the jobs, so they hire these folks, which is fine as long as they teach them some basic customer service skills and monitor their actions to make sure they're not upsetting customers, causing poor reviews for their establishments. When it comes to the flavors - Their chili was decent. It didn't have much depth of flavor and was highly tomato sauce based, but was decent. The menu said it was award winning, which I found interesting, because what I ate didn't taste very award winning. The burger tasted pretty good! The meat was perfectly seasoned and flavorful and the temperature was spot-on. The bun was great. The toppings were also very nicely done. Their fries were excellent! I loved the crunch on the fries, they seemed like they were par-fried then finished fried to order - very nicely done! Overall, my score comes from the terrible customer service. I saw others servers giving great service to the tables, but I made the mistake of sitting at the bar and having this guy. Also, there was a blond lady, maybe the owner or manager who was busy chatting with guests who she knew most of the time I was there and was too busy to check on other guests at the bar, even though she as at the bar too. Tells me that they clearly care more about the locals and those they know rather than those who are just passing through. Maybe it's the reason for their other poor reviews, which I think is sad considering their interesting and unique menu. If they managed service the way they put together such a great menu this would easily be a 5 star place! Hope they turn things around!
