Excellent service, delicious food, and an exceptional, welcoming hostess! A+ place!! One of our favorites when visiting Lake Placid.

I came to Lake Placid for a few days to work at a conference and on my first day I looked up places to eat and this one came up as very appealing so I walked there for lunch and was disappointed to see they were closed. I checked the times online again (Google and their website) and saw they should be open, but weren't. So, I ate elsewhere. Ultimately, I came back on my last night in town and saw they were open and I sat at the bar. The bartender (a European guy) was less than friendly, never smiled, and hardly gave any attention to me, other than to ask what I wanted. Service throughout the entire visit was extremely poor from this guy. At one point, when I ordered my burger, I asked for cherry peppers to be added to it, he simply said "no!" and walked away. I asked him if he said no and he agreed that he did. I told him to come back and I showed him the part of the menu that showed where you can get bacon and cherry peppers added to the burger and this was what I was referring to, except that I only wanted the cherry peppers...He walked away. I ultimately got the burger and as I suspected, no cherry peppers were on it. This guy was literally one of the worst servers I've ever experienced. Along this topic, I noticed that several places in town had these European servers and I asked some locals about this, seems there isn't enough locals to handle the jobs, so they hire these folks, which is fine as long as they teach them some basic customer service skills and monitor their actions to make sure they're not upsetting customers, causing poor reviews for their establishments. When it comes to the flavors - Their chili was decent. It didn't have much depth of flavor and was highly tomato sauce based, but was decent. The menu said it was award winning, which I found interesting, because what I ate didn't taste very award winning. The burger tasted pretty good! The meat was perfectly seasoned and flavorful and the temperature was spot-on. The bun was great. The toppings were also very nicely done. Their fries were excellent! I loved the crunch on the fries, they seemed like they were par-fried then finished fried to order - very nicely done! Overall, my score comes from the terrible customer service. I saw others servers giving great service to the tables, but I made the mistake of sitting at the bar and having this guy. Also, there was a blond lady, maybe the owner or manager who was busy chatting with guests who she knew most of the time I was there and was too busy to check on other guests at the bar, even though she as at the bar too. Tells me that they clearly care more about the locals and those they know rather than those who are just passing through. Maybe it's the reason for their other poor reviews, which I think is sad considering their interesting and unique menu. If they managed service the way they put together such a great menu this would easily be a 5 star place! Hope they turn things around! read more

Our team visited The Pickled Pig in Lake Placid during the CAN/AM hockey tournament after hearing about a "comped lunch" promotion for teams. Unfortunately, the details of the promotion were not clearly communicated and the experience ended up being disappointing. The offer turned out to be 50% off a very limited menu (three items) and only between 11 AM and 1 PM. Our group arrived at 11:30 AM, but due to the wait for seating we weren't seated until after 1 PM. At that point we were told the promotion no longer applied, even though we had arrived within the advertised timeframe. After a long morning of games, the players and families were tired and just hoping for an easy lunch. Because the delay was on the restaurant side, it felt frustrating that the promotion wasn't honored. The food was average, and the overall experience was defined more by the long wait and confusion around the "comped lunch" than the meal itself. Several families in our group left feeling the promotion should have been explained more clearly. Lake Placid gets many youth hockey teams visiting for tournaments, so clear communication about promotions at The Pickled Pig would make the experience much better for traveling families. read more

We went in with high hopes. The food looked good and the atmosphere seemed nice. The wait staff were very nice. When they sat us, were told that they were running a limited menu which would have been nice to know before we're waiting a hour and a half for our table. We ordered the burgers, brisket tacos, chicken tacos, and chicken wings. The chicken wings were good but that's where it stood. The burgers were over cooked and dry. The tacos seemed as if they took store bought tortillas straight from the fridge and threw them in the plate. Very unimpressive. Of course this wouldn't be an issue if the whole meal didn't cost over $200. Overall, I would not recommend this place. Food quality not worth the price. read more

The Pickled Pig in Lake Placid has a really cool atmosphere and a great location right in town. The staff was friendly and service was decent overall. Some of the food was good, especially the barbecue flavors, but a few items came out a little dry and overpriced for the portion sizes. Drinks were solid and the vibe made it worth checking out once, but there's definitely room for improvement to make it a place I'd rush back to. read more

Server was too busy eating and talking at the hostess station to notice that when she brought out the dinners for four diners something was missing. Me and the wife ordered the Crack Burger and Brisket tacos. The burger was an 8.2 out of 10. Not quite smash burger but was really flavorful. The tacos I felt needed some help so I put some house BBQ sauce that they had in the counter and it made it much better. 7.0 out of 10. The size of the tacos were pretty good but they are slightly expensive so it pans out I guess. Overall, it has a local bar feel but obviously tourist come in for bites as well. Service was pretty good as well. I would go back but I feel proxies could be better and the tacos can use some help. Would probably order something g else next time. read more

We had lunch here. It's so close to the Olympic Center, so.... minimal walking if you are tired. We were seated immediately, and our server was so friendly. I wish I had his name, I would recommend him. He was very welcoming and helpful when we were deciding what to order. We shared a plate of delicious pulled chicken tacos and nachos with a brisket add on. The soda was Saranac and very refreshing. I would consider this place to be a must go to if you are in Lake Placid. read more

Before starting our adventure around Lake Placid, we decided on a spot to eat. So happy we chose the pickled pig! It was a nice day so we sat outside enjoying the Fine weather of Lake Placid. We open with adult beverages. Our server was attentive, friendly, and professional! For our main courses, I decided on their barbecue salad with brisket and my wife decided on the brisket barbecue sandwich. It may sound like a lot of brisket, it was, and delicious! The brisket salad was out of this world yummy! My wife's brisket sandwich had some harder pieces, but still was not too bad. If we are ever in Lake Placid again, I know where we'll be stopping. read more

It was okay. A decent place for lunch. Portions were OMG! I would return. Right across from the Olympic Center. Great option for lunches if you are attending events there. We did not get the nachos but saw a few people with them. Wow. Full plate! House chips were good too. You won't go wrong going here! Service was quick. Noisy but it is essentially a pub so expected. Finally some good BBQ in NY but it is 4 and half hours from my place! Just have another location but closer to Westchester county We had the chopped brisket sandwich that was packed with flavor and a sauce you wanna bottled up. Then also had the BBQ Rice Bowl with a good ratio of the delicious brisket to rice and veggies. One critique I had or didn't understand was we got seated first before two other "2-tops" just like us but they got their food out before ours. Luckily we were not in a rush and on vacation, but we would've like a warning why it took awhile; 3.5 stars overall cause of that. read more

We had a brief weekend to get away and we went to Lake Placid. We ended up Sunday afternoon at The Pickled Pig for a late lunch/early dinner. We decided to share a 1/2 rack of ribs and a BBQ Brisket Salad. We ordered the salad with the pulled pork option. The food came out immediately. The ribs were super tender and really good. BBQ sauce on them were a sweet sauce. The salad came out in a huge bowl and we mixed the bowl up with the dressing they served on the side with it and started to eat. The salad was definitely the highlight for that meal. Excellent ingredients put together an amazing salad. The salad was so big we could barely finish it. Our waitress was nice and checked back on us anytime we were about to need her. The restaurant is casual, clean and not too loud. Bathrooms were clean and relatively new. I would definitely recommend anyone who stops into Lake Placid visit The Pickled Pig. read more

This place is wonderful. The people are so friendly and the food is very good. It's very pleasant inside and they have a fire pit out front that you can sit at and have lunch or dinner. The menu is good and the bar has some good local beers. read more

Great place. The aroma came from down the street and as soon as we entered my mouth was watering. As we sat down we were greeted by our wonderful waiter Oggie. He was friendly and attentive. We got brisket nachos, one of their baked potato dishes, and i got the sandwich that had the pulled pork, chicken, and brisket on it. Great cocktails and great food. Live music was the cherry on top. 1st of all, a piece of advice if you are there on a busy night, double check that you are actually on the wait list. If the tall, younger guy greets you and only takes your number, he needs to take your name too. I do wish that the bar could be reviewed separately, those 2 men were great. Service and drinks were fantastic. Maybe one of them should be in charge?? Just a suggestion...Our waitress was also great, she got a raw deal that night, I feel bad for her. Anyway, once we finally got seated we were told that there was a limited menu 'that weekend'...?? Absolutely ridiculous, would have been great to know before we waited over an hour for a table. The options were extremely limited, this is a BBQ & Burger place not a 5 star restaurant, why would you limit the menu?? Do Better. The food that we picked was ok, edible, nothing to write home about. We had chili, brisket tacos and a brisket rice bowl. The brisket was pretty tough and hard throughout all of the dishes, didn't really have a lot of flavor. I would have a really hard time returning for a 2nd visit. We stopped in Tupper Lake on the way home and were chatting with a couple that is in Placid every year. food: the food was really good we got there chili I love the ingredients they put in it that very made unique. Service: was very bad they had such a horrible attitude to me and my son we go to the desk and we ask to order takeout they said you can do inline or go to the bar and order. So we walk over and we ask for takeout the bar tender says okay, one minute maybe even less than a minute idk. So we wait for like 5 min so we just order online and we walk away it says it will ready in 18min we thought it would take less because we just got chili it was until 25min later the bar tender lady goes to check on the food and comes out with it. I believe those waiters just did not care about the takeout order and just let it rest there in the kitchen. Ambiance: when we were walking around the planks we were walking on were about to break. I can't attest to the food because I wasn't able to eat. We had reservations for 2, and I got sick the day of. When we called to cancel and explained I was sick, they said sorry, but there would be a $40 cancelation charge since it was within 24 hours. We went anyway to avoid the ridiculous charge, and my friend ordered ribs smothered in bbq sause. I had to do everything not to vomit right there. I was sick as a dog. Be very weary of their strict and unforgiving cancelation policy. I would never go there again for this reason alone. read more

Stopped at the pig after ice skating at the outdoor rink. It's a great location if you're at the hockey rinks or just walking town. The place has your typical bar atmosphere but looks like its been rode hard. The outside was closed off but it has a nice patio area. Parking is on the street or in town at a public lot. They have various beers on tap with a decent and diverse selection. Food was a mix of typical bar food, bbq with some unique items throughout. We opted for smoked hot wings and fresh cut fries. The wings were $17 for 10 which was steep but OK for Lake Placid pricing. The rest of the menu was more expensive with burgers over $20 and most appetizers over $15. The wings were delicious with a great smokey flavor and a really good sauce. We got a "medium" sauce and they had some kick. My son got "hot" and they were too much for me and I like spicy food. Overall, we enjoyed our visit but felt like the cost of the restaurant was high in relation to the atmosphere and food quality. read more
