I came to Lake Placid for a few days to work at a conference and on my first day I looked up places to eat and this one came up as very appealing so I walked there for lunch and was disappointed to see they were closed. I checked the times online again (Google and their website) and saw they should be open, but weren't. So, I ate elsewhere. Ultimately, I came back on my last night in town and saw they were open and I sat at the bar. The bartender (a European guy) was less than friendly, never smiled, and hardly gave any attention to me, other than to ask what I wanted. Service throughout the entire visit was extremely poor from this guy. At one point, when I ordered my burger, I asked for cherry peppers to be added to it, he simply said "no!" and walked away. I asked him if he said no and he agreed that he did. I told him to come back and I showed him the part of the menu that showed where you can get bacon and cherry peppers added to the burger and this was what I was referring to, except that I only wanted the cherry peppers...He walked away. I ultimately got the burger and as I suspected, no cherry peppers were on it. This guy was literally one of the worst servers I've ever experienced. Along this topic, I noticed that several places in town had these European servers and I asked some locals about this, seems there isn't enough locals to handle the jobs, so they hire these folks, which is fine as long as they teach them some basic customer service skills and monitor their actions to make sure they're not upsetting customers, causing poor reviews for their establishments. When it comes to the flavors - Their chili was decent. It didn't have much depth of flavor and was highly tomato sauce based, but was decent. The menu said it was award winning, which I found interesting, because what I ate didn't taste very award winning. The burger tasted pretty good! The meat was perfectly seasoned and flavorful and the temperature was spot-on. The bun was great. The toppings were also very nicely done. Their fries were excellent! I loved the crunch on the fries, they seemed like they were par-fried then finished fried to order - very nicely done! Overall, my score comes from the terrible customer service. I saw others servers giving great service to the tables, but I made the mistake of sitting at the bar and having this guy. Also, there was a blond lady, maybe the owner or manager who was busy chatting with guests who she knew most of the time I was there and was too busy to check on other guests at the bar, even though she as at the bar too. Tells me that they clearly care more about the locals and those they know rather than those who are just passing through. Maybe it's the reason for their other poor reviews, which I think is sad considering their interesting and unique menu. If they managed service the way they put together such a great menu this would easily be a 5 star place! Hope they turn things around! read more

Our team visited The Pickled Pig in Lake Placid during the CAN/AM hockey tournament after hearing about a "comped lunch" promotion for teams. Unfortunately, the details of the promotion were not clearly communicated and the experience ended up being disappointing. The offer turned out to be 50% off a very limited menu (three items) and only between 11 AM and 1 PM. Our group arrived at 11:30 AM, but due to the wait for seating we weren't seated until after 1 PM. At that point we were told the promotion no longer applied, even though we had arrived within the advertised timeframe. After a long morning of games, the players and families were tired and just hoping for an easy lunch. Because the delay was on the restaurant side, it felt frustrating that the promotion wasn't honored. The food was average, and the overall experience was defined more by the long wait and confusion around the "comped lunch" than the meal itself. Several families in our group left feeling the promotion should have been explained more clearly. Lake Placid gets many youth hockey teams visiting for tournaments, so clear communication about promotions at The Pickled Pig would make the experience much better for traveling families. read more

Some of the food was good, especially the barbecue flavors, but a few items came out a little dry and overpriced for the portion sizes. Food was just so sad. The crack burger was like a $25 big Mac sloppy with a soggy bun. The brisket sandwich was dry and crumbly also with a soggy bun that was supposed to be toasted. Worst part was the service. It was so slow we sat with a dirty table, waiting for the waiter to come back to take our form of payment after 20 minutes I had to go and ask for someone to please come so we could take our payment. Me and the wife ordered the Crack Burger and Brisket tacos. The burger was an 8.2 out of 10. Not quite smash burger but was really flavorful. The tacos I felt needed some help so I put some house BBQ sauce that they had in the counter and it made it much better. 7.0 out of 10. The size of the tacos were pretty good but they are slightly expensive so it pans out I guess. Overall, it has a local bar feel but obviously tourist come in for bites as well. Service was pretty good as well. I would go back but I feel proxies could be better and the tacos can use some help. Would probably order something g else next time. read more

Had the pork and pineapple street tacos. Large portions but the pulled pork was dry. Came with chips and unremarkable salsa. Struggled to choke it down. My friend's guacamole was unsalted and bland. The service was excellent. For a group of 11 people the food was served in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the rice bowl, pork tacos and burgers. Nothing was left on our plates. Everyone who ordered the burgers, said they thought it was the best burger they ever had! The prices a little high for the kids menu but if your kids were over 6 yrs of age it was a hardy meal and worth it. If under six, there will be leftovers. When they sat us, were told that they were running a limited menu which would have been nice to know before we're waiting a hour and a half for our table. We ordered the burgers, brisket tacos, chicken tacos, and chicken wings. The chicken wings were good but that's where it stood. The burgers were over cooked and dry. The tacos seemed as if they took store bought tortillas straight from the fridge and threw them in the plate. Very unimpressive. Found this place on Google, and we really excited about food options. Stopped in for a table of 2 outside and were told 15-20 minute wait. We left and came back in 20 minutes and waited an additional 20 minutes at the bar as our place in line was "3rd" for the entire 40 minutes. After another 10 minutes our table moved to "first" and instead of calling us, our reservation was cancelled. I went and spoke to the hostess for an explanation and she didn't really explain but apologized and then said there were no tables available outside. We agreed to be seated inside but after another additional 10 minutes, no one had come to even take our drink orders. We decided to leave. (Also, there were clearly empty tables available outside and people who arrived after us were seated there. Service was horrible! Sat at the bar and the gentleman sitting next to me told me he waited 20 minutes to get served even though there were 3 bartenders and absolutely no one else at the bar.
