Do not bring your dog here unless you want your dog crated and trained to pee and poop indoors..... We brought our dog here for a daycare test and this place is not what you want... They crate your dog for a 2 hour nap time!! Nap time wasn't the problem but they crate every dog instead of letting them lay on the floor freely during "nap time" and/or crate the dogs that may need it specifically. Bizarre!! In addition to that... they make the dogs pee and poop in a very small concrete area outside the facility (zero grass), and if they don't go there they are to either hold it or relieve themselves INDOORS...in the same area where your dog plays with other dogs. We've taken our dog to a daycare facility for years now and I have never heard of things like this. This place has very little room for your dog to roam and the whole operation is just beyond bizarre. read more

My dog has been going to the Good Dog Spot since she was a puppy. Now she is getting to be an old lady! The Good Dog Spot is her home away from home and I am always confident she is getting all of the love and attention she can handle. I have boarded her many times during her life and I love that I get a daily report card for her daycare and boarding. This gives me peace of mind that all is well when I am not with her. The grooming team is excellent and all of the staff are wonderful and really helpful. A couple of times during over these many years, the staff have alerted me to something I should have checked out by my Vet. Fortunately, nothing serious has developed, but I really appreciate their attentiveness. There is a core group of employees, but like all businesses there has been turnover since COVID. This is not unique to The Good Dog Spot, but i get that it takes time to train and develop employee skills. The Good Dog Spot is not inexpensive, but I think it is on par with other places. I do wish there was more outdoor space for the dogs to walk and potty breaks. I would love to see some perks added back to the cost of daycare. Several years ago, there were some minor but nice perks for daycare and boarding. It seems like expenses everywhere have increased, but I think with some creativity, loyal and faithful customers could be rewarded. read more

I have never had a problem when groomed .....he comes out beautifully clean. Prices keep going up and no webcam anymore and that is disappointing. I have used good dog spot for boarding and dog day care over the years and the level of service has rapidly declined in the past year. I am no longer using their services after my last experience in February. I dropped my dog off at noon for a dog daycare/boarding appointment from Friday through Sunday pickup. I did not need boarding Friday night but wanted her to attend daycare to enjoy some time with other dogs. The purpose of boarding on Friday was solely to attend doggy daycare which she never attended because the staff decided not to bring her. I'm not sure why she never made it. As I was Never given an exact reason. When I dropped her off, staff was aware she should be brought to daycare as I added webcam (available only for daycare) and asked for daycare. I called at 3:30 because I was unable to view my dog on webcam. Tried a few times earlier and then finally realized I think she was Not moved to daycare. I spoke to individual who stated there was some Confusion and she would not be able to attend daycare on Friday and could not be moved at 3:30PM into daycare. On Saturday she did not attend daycare again because of low enrollment and the only dog that attended did not want to play with my dog (per report card) I picked her up on Sunday and her backside was soiled in dried yellow green diarrhea. She was never cleaned. Not sure how long it was there. I sent an email on Friday with feedback on the daycare miscommunication. I did receive a response with an apology. I then followed up with a picture of my dog from pickup but never received a response. I provided my phone number via email. No call Was ever given. The front office service has Declined over the past year. No one greets you animal anymore. They are no longer "Good" to my dog. read more

I can't express how upset and angry I am as a trusting consumer with The Good Dog Spot. Your pets are your family, and you expect and should receive the highest quality of care when you put your trust in a company who guarantees this care. I recently trusted my 1-year old German Shepard in the care of the Good Dog Spot for a total of five days, as I was leaving for a cruise that I could not bring him on (I would have if I could). I was scheduled to leave 3/24/2019 and my step-father brought him to the Good Dog Spot that Monday (3/25/2019). I packed exactly 30 cups of dog food for the length of his stay of five days. Per our veterinarian, he is to eat five cups of food each day. He ended up staying until Sunday, 3/31/19, as the person scheduled to pick him up Saturday morning could not and contacted them in which they mentioned my pup had to be muzzled! I came home Sunday morning and went right for my pup and was handed back 15 pounds of dog food! When that food should have been completely gone! My dog lost a ton of weight and came home as bones!! Come to find out, due to a miscommunication when he was dropped off, they were feeding my pup only two cups of food a day!! Three people apparently thought that for a healthy, 1-year old German Shepard that this was enough food for him. Three different people signed off on this food intake without confirming it! There was not one phone call made to me or any of the contact numbers I left with them to confirm this amount of food!  I left them with 30 cups of food for a reason, no one wondered why there was this amount of food there?!?! They had the time to send me videos of my pup upset and muzzle him during his stay,(in which I notified them I would not be in the country and had poor service, hence the emergency contact number left with them, so I did not receive these until the morning I came home, 3/31/19). but NOT ONE TRAINED person that was to take care of him thought that only 2 cups of food per day would suffice for my, at the time 65lb dog. My dog lost 5 pounds while he stayed with the Good Dog Spot! What person in the world would not for a second wonder why he was upset?!?!?!?! He was starving! The moment I realized what happened, I fed him three cups of food that he scarfed down his throat and he was looking for more! I immediately complained and was told to call the next day. I spoke with the Director of Operations and he said there was absolutely nothing he could do about it and he sided with his employee. He said that many people leave too much food and that it is normal to feed a large dog only 2 cups of food each day!!!!! I am writing this to make sure that everyone is aware of what is happening there. I thought I was leaving my family in the care of trained professionals. They proved that they are neither properly trained or professional. I please ask that you do not trust this "provider" with the care of your loved ones. My dog was starved, upset, hungry, and muzzled while he stayed there and I do not want to see this happen to anyone's dog! I am completely outraged that they would something like this to happen to my dog! read more

My dog "somehow" got hurt while being boarded here. The injury was to his paw. It became so infected it required two surgeries and eventually an amputation to stop the infection from spreading. No financial assistance was offered or given. I would caution anyone who uses this place or is thinking of using them for either daycare or boarding. FYI their insurance company only sees your pets as property. They won't pay over what they deem your "property"/pet is worth. read more

Good place for doggie daycare. There is an extensive application so that they have a good bit of information about your dog. The first time the dog goes there is a structured assessment and feedback to the owner. You can schedule a time for your dog to go either online or via phone. The web cameras are a great feature so you can check in real time on your pup and see what is going on. I like that there is always someone with the dogs. The only issue I have is that the cameras are not on for a 2 hour period during lunch and rest time. The report card they provide daily is very short and doesn't provide much info - just general demeanor ("playful"), the names and breeds that your dog tended to interact with ("Spot, poodle"), and what they needed to be corrected for ("excessive barking, humping"). There was little detail or explanation. I found the staff to be pleasant and accommodating and the whole experience to be a good one. *Note: This review is for grooming, not boarding. I took my dog here twice. The first time was based on Yelp reviews from the area since I had just moved and didn't have any referrals. Since then, the positive reviews upon which I based my decision have been removed. I'm pretty sure I know why... The first visit was okay. They did a really nice job with cutting the fur around my dog's face, which is always something I emphasize during the intake discussion. The rest of the cut was fine except for the tail. The bushy tail we usually let her keep was cut really short...making her look extra alien-like. For the second visit, I gave the staff member similar instructions, but this time I specifically mentioned the tail. I told her about the previous visit and requested they not trim the tail at all. When I came to pick her up, however, her tail was completely shaved again. It's not like I asked them for something unusual that they didn't understand. I told them not to mess with it at all...essentially making their job easier. My dog also received negative comments regarding her behavior on the "report card" they provide with each visit. I realize my dog isn't a huge fan of the groomer, but the shop she was used to visiting before we moved never had any major issues. For example, the previous groomers informed me early on that my dog didn't like the hair dryer, but they skipped that step because her coat dried pretty fast without it. Essentially, they seemed to gauge the dogs' comfort level and work with them accordingly. I guess I would expect all groomers to have a solid understanding of the range of dogs' individual personalities and quirks as well as how to deal with them. I'm not saying it's all the groomers' fault at "The Good Dog Spot," but my dog is pretty good with people as long as they use calm voices, etc. It's also worth noting that for the second visit, I had to go back into the area where the dogs are caged to coax my dog out of her cage after the grooming. This is extremely unusual. Usually she's so excited to be done with grooming that she can't wait to see me. I'm not sure if it's how the cages were arranged or the terrible acoustics in the room (all concrete, not much to absorb the sound), but I would have been terrified if I were locked in a cage there, too. When I went into that portion of the facility, the barks were so loud and piercing, I'm not sure how anyone could get work done...let alone soothe a nervous dog. Immediately I felt bad for subjecting my dog to any time in such an uncomfortable space. My hearing isn't nearly as good as hers, and I couldn't wait to get out of that room. In short, my dog and I won't revisit "The Good Dog Spot." I've since received a referral that's also a little closer to home, so we'll be trying that next. read more

We recently moved to the area and have been in search of a place for our dog to hang out while we're at work. We had a negative experience with a dog daycare prior, and were hesitant to try it again. The staff at the Good Dog Spot are great, especially the owner/groomer. She could tell I was a nervous mom, and even offered to take care of my dog herself. The space is big, and it was clear from the evaluation session that the staff really understood my dog. They had him pegged. We even laughed about how much they wrote about him, and that he had his own biopsychosocial assessment. They were right on. I trust them to monitor the dogs well, to ensure that everyone is safe, and to make sure each group is well constructed. In short, they know their dogs. The indoor space is clean and the ratio of space to dogs is impressive compared to others we looked at. We've used their grooming services, which are top notch. Worth the money! The major downside to the Spot is the lack of quality outdoor space. I know they are expanding the space, but it's all asphalt, no grass/trees or space for a larger dog to get up to speed playing chase. On the other hand, in the winter, the indoor space would be a huge plus and I imagine if the space were grass, the dogs would destroy it quickly. If you're in need of dog daycare, I'd say this is your place. Though we didn't use them for training, I suspect they would excel at that as well. I would have given five stars except for the outdoor space and that the place is a bit on the expensive side compared to others in the area. Then again, you get what you pay for. We will continue to take our dog there on a regular basis, and do so without a single worry. If I sound hesitant, it's because I'm still not sold on the idea of dog daycare for my particular dog (he's a bit on the shy side), not because the place isn't great. The staff and grooming at Good Dog Spot is top notch! My first two huskies we took for grooming when they were elderly, the staff took extra care with their weakened legs and made them comfortable. Now that we have the next generation of huskies after losing our first two, they go once a week for daycare as well as grooming. The two of them have so much energy it's amazing how going to Good Dog helps drain it and keep them happier during the week at home. They are great with other dogs and just love to play with them! I took my dog in yesterday and had a bad experience and will not be back. Staff aren't friendly, the place smells like urine and my dog came home more upset than he ever has from a past grooming experience. I didn't realize exactly why until I noticed him constantly licking a big gash on his leg. The rest of his cut was very sloppily done, choppy and uneven, but this is an actual wound. Understandably, mistakes happen but instead of trying to keep it from me, I would have appreciated them mentioning what happened, maybe taking some money off and offering some advice on how to treat a painful cut. All-around bad experience. Definitely go elsewhere. read more

The staff here really truly cares about the animals, their happiness, safety, and well being. My cat and dog were groomed wonderfully, and were so happy when they came home, like they were new animals! Daycare staff are personable, kind and friendly in the lobby, and you can see they enjoy what they do, spending time with and taking care of your pets. Boarding too, is very professional, and straight forward. You're able to tour the kennel and see where your pet will be, and give specific instructions on what they need such as walks, medicine, special food etc. I've seen first hand that these people are true to their word and take their jobs seriously! read more

This place may seem all fun and dandy and innocent, but it's hiding many dark secrets about how it functions and it's employees. If a new customer buys a ton of daycare package days, their dog, even if it's not suited for daycare, will be placed with the other dogs. This results in tension in the groups and sometimes fights breaking out and staff getting bitten, endangering the safety of the dogs and staff. However, the owners will not say a peep about this to the customer because they do not want to refund the customer's money; they pretend everything is going great. Another trick is tacking on late fees at pickup. If you irk a staff member, it's easy for them with a few clicks of the mouse to add a late fee and it has been done before so check your total carefully before shelling out your wallet. Daycares usually have a dog behaviorist on staff and the Good Dog Spot did have one but terminated them after they got injured on the job. Customers who inquired about this employee were told that they "think they hurt their back or something" and not told that they were fired. Overnight dog belongings storage and blankets, unless they were stored in closed plastic containers, are constantly getting stained with mouse urine and feces, sometimes mice would drown in the water buckets overnight. Several times small dogs kennels are not cleaned and their feces would harden and glue itself to the floor and their urine runs downhill into a puddle against one of the playroom walls, "the puddle of death" because of its horrible smell which sits for several days before cleaned. Kennels and playroom gates and fences in the back are constantly getting pulled apart and broken due to their cheap quality installed by management themselves. Several times dogs have escaped their enclosures overnight and run amuck until morning. Temperatures run with the season; if it's hot out, the back and grooming are almost sweltering. If it's cold out, it's freezing in those rooms. Grooming is hit or miss. You may get what you want depending on the mood of the groomer. It's against the law for a dog to be left alone on a grooming table, but is common. If you request a quick bath for your dog after an overnight or daycare, check to see if your dog was actually washed. At times they are simply brushed, wiped off with a towel, and spritzed with dog cologne and presented as if they had a bath when they really didn't. It isn't a great mystery as to why one of the honest groomers walked off the job one day with no warning. Management favors staff that doesn't question them or their way of handling business. Injuries, sexual harassment and assault among employees are ignored if the accused is favored over the accuser, even with witnesses and evidence to back them up. In fact, the accuser/injured is terminated to sweep matters under the carpet. Our dog Corona has been going to GDS now for several months. We typically bring her one day a week and she LOVES it. She almost drags you into the building. The staff has been very good and we get a comfortable feeling that Corona is in good hands. We have seen a positive change from the previous place we brought Corona and we are glad that we made the change. Northampton location. In a short spot .. my normal place was full up. These guys came recommended in Chicopee and the new location in Hamp is closer to me. Mike toured the place with me. I got to see all the rooms. Super clean and plenty of space. My dog was accepted into board with basic vaccine. Drop off and pick up were super easy and drama free. My mixed breed puppy was sufficiently tired and clean. Not stressed. I would use them again and am thinking about day care a couple times a month. read more

This place drugged my dog with Benadryl because they said he didn't like being groomed... he's a small dog and get scared. This place scared him to the point we can't even bring him to another groomer we now how to groom him ourselves. Took my Cairn Terrier for a Cairn cut which the groomer said they could do. After dropping my dog off at Good Dog Spot for his grooming apt, I received a call 45 minutes later that he was done. What they did to my dog was horrible. They shaved my dog very unevenly and left long hair on his tummy. My dog has been groomed many times with always a great outcome. We had our dog there for about 1 1/2 months. He had a super start...friendly staff, clean facility, great communication and they even had digital picture frames with pictures of the dogs playing together from each day. We have a big dog with a lot of energy who LOVES to play and is great with other dogs! I believe his energy was a bit too much for them to handle. Their attitudes changed after about a month and their communication ceased. We were met with condescending responses to our questions and were told we needed to cut down on the amount of time he spent there. They claimed it was due to his unsettled stomach (which he has had since he was a puppy) and he fought with another dog. We were shocked. Although at times he can try to be the dominant dog...he is the least aggressive dog I know and even cowered when he was growled at by a small poodle. When we pressed for details, we were told that he put his paws on the back of another dog and tried to mount him...hardly a fight but, typical dog behavior. When we picked him up that day (our last day), all of the other dogs were playing together except for ours. They had him isolated from the others. In regards to his unsettled stomach, they actually called our vet without contacting us first. The staff there was such a disappointment, including the owner. He came home with his collar missing one day...no big deal (we did not notice as we use the Gentle Leader) He returned home with it on the next time he went to day care and it was missing his tags. We called to let them know and were told, by the owner, that there was absolutely no way it happened there and we should check our car. She actually accused us without even investigating on her end...That was red flag #1. Conclusion... Very unfortunate and disappointing experience. The staff is not trained to deal with people or animals. There are many other suitable facilities in the area. read more

The first time I took my dog here, her hair cut was great. They did an awesome job seeing as to her hair being so long and she doesn't like the idea of grooming. She looked awesome and smelled good, along with a cute bandana that they had given her. Unfortunately this time around she was butchered. Nothing like I had requested at all. her hair on her ears was left along with her tail, and they actually called me in to hold her so the groomer could finish her hair cut because all the help was at lunch. Isn't this why I pay for the services? I was very disappointed with the quality of haircut and probably will not return again. not return again. I know that my dog isn't fond of getting her hair cut but she looks awful. Along with a terrible haircut I never received a receipt for the work. Im not even sure if everything was done that is suppose to be in the package. Not sure if they do a good job the first time around to get you to come back.
