This is the second time we used them to groom our collie. The first time they did fine. This time they did not follow our instructions not to shave him at all, leaving his skin bare and exposed to winter cold over large areas. They could have removed knots by taking time and doing them by hand, but chose not to and didn't notify us. They also didn't trim his nails nor return our calls when we called to complain. read more

I have had nothing but amazing and professional experiences here. My dog struggles with getting her nails cut and can be very difficult, they take so much care of her. Everyone that works here is so kind, and extremely professional. I drive from Connecticut to Amherst every 3 weeks because I don't trust anyone else with my dog. I recommend all my friends to come here over and over again because I don't trust anyone else. - also in addition I love how they really take care of every dog's specific needs. Even for a smaller space they understand other dog's temperaments/ or even medical issues and accommodate for every animal in the facility. I wasn't gonna do anything about this until I found out that so many were looking and no call. My dog got out the door of their grooming establishment and was running all over town. , I found out a week later from the animal control officer who told me that she was the one that actually netted my dog1/2 mile away. it was minimized by the young girl at the grooming place. over the years I've brought many dogs there, but I can't do that again. This is too dangerous. I told them when I dropped her off that she could possibly be a runner. I just got her obviously they paid no attention and they still charged me for a really crappy job. read more

I took my standard golden doodle Ella to Amherst Dog Wash today. They were ready for her at the scheduled time and asked several questions to make sure they knew what I was looking for. Ben was great with Ella and she looks and smells divine! I love the fact that they don't crate the dogs. They might be waiting in the back room behind a gate but they are never crated. Great place! Took the pup in here over Thanksgiving after searching around for a place to trim our dog's nails that was open on Saturday and not a giant pet store. She'd had a bath recently but I was willing to wash her again as the nail trim was an optional add-on with the washing service. The person working was super nice and just cut her nails for $6. While I didn't use the washing stations, someone else came in with a big dog at the same time and I was able to see one in use. It seemed like a nice setup and again, the service was extremely friendly. I highly recommend checking them out if you're looking for a local place to tidy up your pet. read more

Unprofessional beyond belief. I think they must run this business as a hobby. I made an appointment on Wednesday, Feb 22, 2017, for a full grooming to take place on Friday, March 3 at 3pm. Fine. I showed up 10 minutes before and found the business closed. I was a bit surprised, but waited until 3:10 with nobody showing up. Just as I was about to leave someone stumbled out. They asked me if "Tiffany" called to reschedule, that they had closed on Monday for painting. I said no, Tiffany did not call. Thel question is WHY they made the appointment in the first place? They made an appointment for the following Friday when the business was going to be closed for the week? Based on this experience, I wouldn't trust Amherst Dog Wash with my dog. read more

Rather annoyed. We needed to wash our dogs and found this place. Went because of the high ratings. Their facilities make it difficult to brush out a dog. In the bath there are walls around them. Otherwise you have to brush them on the floor. The bathtubs are very close so another customer's dog seemed stressed out about being so close. The soaps and water were fine. We opted for the employee to trim their nails. She didn't seem confident. I assumed she'd do it while the dog was contained in the tub. Instead she kind of bent over hanging her head and snip as my dog is pulling her foot away. She caused two toes to bleed quite badly. Streaks of blood on the floor and covering her white paw. Sigh. I stopped her from doing our other dog. She couldn't find that powder that stops the bleeding and just wiped it away. We tried to walk them nearby to dry them in the sun but needed to go back because our dog's toes were dropping blood! Then she found the powder. read more

The service was amazing at this cute local shop! Georgie is a very nervous Chihuahua and the owner really took his time to make sure that she felt safe and comfortable during the wash. They did an extremely thorough job. Although they have the option for self wash, I have no problem paying for them to wash her since they did such a fantastic job. Just moved to town during the pandemic, and was so relieved that Amherst Dog Wash was able to groom my cockapoo. They were wearing masks and I could see them sanitizing the shop after the last dog and before they brought my pup in. They also don't use cages to hold the dogs like the big chain stores. He was so matted and desperately needed a good trim. Pup came out looking excellent and calm (a sign they know what to do). The groomer was super helpful - he called me when my pup was ready so I didn't have to wait around and made payment super easy and safe with all these covid worries. I am so happy to find a new place for my dog, I'll be back again! read more

Very bad service. Gave my dog an infection. Suspect unclear equipment. Was told the cuts on his skin could not have been helped.

This place needs more better workers! I brought my two papillons and when I got home and inspected them, I notice how horrible both of my dogs haircuts were. Papillons are distinguished dogs and their hair style shows a lot of why they are named "papillons". Their tails where cut horribly and their ear hairs were to. The body didn't get cut at all, and the bottom hair was cut so unevenly. Nice people but horrible at cutting dogs hairs! Never going back again! Oh plus the cost for two small dogs was too expensive. read more

This is the only place I can bring my sweet, shy, rescue dog for grooming. She hates being groomed, and is fearful around other dogs, and I am always able to arrange for a time when we are the only ones there. The groomer, Tiffany, is amazingly patient and loving, works with my dog in whatever position is most comfortable, and gives her beautiful cuts.
