Met a friend at Good Good after having a great experience there before. We stopped by around 12:30 PM without a reservation and found the place completely packed, with only a few seats available at the bar. I ordered the Coconut Fish Sandwich ($28), and my friend had the Smoked Salmon Benedict ($27). The coconut-battered basa was crispy and flavorful, with a subtle sweetness that really worked well. My friend finished every bite of her Benedict, so I'd say that was a hit too. Great food, lively atmosphere, and another wonderful visit. Very busy place with a supercool personality. I loved the decor and music choices. We went on a Saturday at opening time and by the time we left the restaurant was packed. The service was super helpful and we went for a few of their most popular dishes. Jerk mushrooms and Brussels sprouts: I'm putting them together because I found similar problems in both. First, they came at room temperature and tasted like they were barely reheated... not a good start. Second, both lacked flavor... tastes very plain. Last - just my opinion - I don't think the ingredients in both appetizers worked well together. I didn't enjoy either of them. Codfish fritters: disappointing. A very small serving of fritters that tastes like they had very little cod in them. They were more doughy than fishy. Branzino: although the fish was delicate and cooked perfectly, I wasn't a fan of the butter peri-peri sauce, which I found (again) lacking flavor. Hot honey fried: this was a solid dish, and the batter was sweet, spicy and crunchy as advertised. Overall, after reading the reviews my expectations were high. However, I'm not gonna lie, I was disappointed. Almost everything we ordered had problems, and considering their high price tag ($150 for the above), we were expecting more creativity and surely much higher quality. This is what I call a breakfast worth $25. Long story short, the Jerk seasoning changes the game; that is the secret sauce here. It brings out depth and heat to the rest of what you're eating. And then its also incorporated into the potatoes too and with the omlete oozing with juices it just makes the potatoes burst with flavor even more. This was one of those meals that you have to eat slowly because you don't want it to be gone. Service: 5/5 - It was great! Might be a little biased considering that we came right in the morning and a snowstorm just laid waste the night before. So even though I thought ahead and booked a resy safe to say that they were quite accommodating to the 4 of us in the establishment during our service. The tables are quite close together though so be prepared to have that instance where you're actively trying to not easvesdrop the table next too you. The Good Good was an absolute 100/10 experience from start to finish. The vibe is intimate and cozy, with a perfectly curated soundtrack that ties everything together and creates such a warm, inviting atmosphere. I enjoyed the White Bordeaux Château Graville-Lacoste Graves (France, 2022), which was crisp, smooth, and paired beautifully with the meal. The food was next level: the crispy Brussels sprouts were addictive, the dates with bacon hit that perfect sweet-and-savory balance, and the pan-seared Branzino was cooked to perfection. This review flowed from my fingertips so easily because The Good Good delivered a great vibe and a full stomach. A restaurant of this caliber should be located somewhere in the heart of Harlem, but it's situated a bit off the beaten path. However, don't worry, because it will be worth the short walk from the 4 line near the 25th precinct. That said, upon entering, your eyes will be captivated by an array of Afrocentric patterns and colors. The bar and its amazing bartender will be there to welcome you. I will say that Sunday brunch gets busy, so please make a reservation and be aware that they have two shifts. The brunch shift and the dinner shift. The eggs randomly came out about 20 mins before the meal. We let our waiter know and she told us that it must've been a mistake. When they brought our meals out, they brought out the same eggs from earlier. They were cold. By the time the new order of eggs came out, we were nearly done with our meals. Good Good's design inside is mixed with one side of done in a white-washed brick wall, the opposite is cream, some wooden African pieces on shelves, plants and those irregular-shaped edge mirrors. The African music playing softly in the background, set the mood alright. Although Good Good is on the smallish side, you shouldn't be fooled by the size of this place. The menu offers something for everyone and we felt the flexibility is worth it! Between the vegetarian and pescatarian items offered, that my kid and I can eat, we couldn't decide what to order- because everything sounded delicious. The fluffy codfish fritters she and I shared have a nice heat and are totally unmissable! I'm not finished. She and I shared a side of fried sweet plantains- and these are done on the spot- none of that day-old crap that a lot of restaurants pull. Thank you! Since I'd been last, it felt like an additional small table for 2 was added to the row opposite the booth seats, so the seating was tight. The food was excellent, especially the yams, yet after a spicy bite of a hot pepper, I struggled to get the attention of the wait staff. As we were only drinking water, the offer of a bottle on the table to refill juice-glass size glasses would have been appreciated. The yams were the best dish, with a crunchy sweet outside, savory outside with an incredible blend of sweet, salty, spicy sauce. The branzino was grilled perfectly yet the sauce was a bit watery. Dessert was a perfectly soaked layered cake (tres leches). My friend left nothing but bones for the chicken dish, repeatedly commenting on the high quality of the dish. The dish that lacked flavor and consistency was the rice and bean appetizer dish that the wait staff did not know how to say. Overwhelmed with thyme, the jasmine rice was dry and kidney beans hardly evident. We ate only two spoonfuls. The restaurant lighting is soft with a warm orange/yellow glow, perfectly reproduced in all the photos posted for this restaurant. My friend and I started the meal with the biscuit basket which came with four biscuits, strawberry jam and butter. Great way to start the meal. My only suggestion would be to soften the butter. My friend had the shrimp and grits which was delectable although, she would have preferred more grits. I had the French toast and bacon. Yummy, yummy. I also ordered grits on the side....to die for. Had the brunch martini which was as expected, great. I also ended the meal with a coffee cocktail that I can't remember the name of. The place itself is super cozy and beautifully decorated you walk in and you're instantly transported. We went just for some drinks. We came in carrying paintings from a previous event, and they even coat-checked them for us. Everyone at the table ordered something different, I chose the margarita, which was good! We were looking for a place to sit down, eat, and have a libation or two after a long day (with no food) on our way back from Sleepy Hollow.. and I'm so glad that my sister suggested Harlem, because that led us to this gem. Walked in around 7pm, with no reservation but was seated right away. Went here last night with the wife, and it did not disappoint. From the hostess' warm greeting and in depth knowledge of the menu to our waiter (who also impressively pulled double duty behind the bar later in the evening) being super enthusiastic about the spot and it's food, drawing us in, this was a dope experience. The jerk mushrooms were the star, with jerk sauce reminiscent of your favorite hole in the wall Jamaican restaurant in the North Bronx. The kick from the "pepper" was delightful. The rice was really well done, as was the fish sandwich. It was served with like an aioli I think? Not sure maybe their take on tarter sauce, but it was really creamy and good. Drinks were on point as well. The setting was very date night, there was also a DJ who was playing an East Harlem set that included some salsa and Lumidee's smash hit.
