One of my favorite things to do near the Columbia River Gorge is to explore the Fruit Loop, which is what I was doing when I noticed this antique shop on the side of the road. I'm from California, so I'm still not fully used to the way food is served everywhere you go in Oregon. I was thinking, 'Espresso, ice cream, and antiques? That's different.' Is the musky smell of antiques compatible with food service? Not sure how I feel about this, but I ordered a huckleberry soda, anyway. I was curious. It turned out to be one of the best flavored sodas I've ever had. I loved the huckleberry syrup. The antique selection was well-curated. Lots of interesting trinkets and jewelry. Everything you'd expect from an antique shop, plus a gentleman's room full of old Playboys tucked into the back. Service was friendly, and there was plenty of parking. There was no wait. This is a great alternative to stopping by one of the big busy farms if you're just looking for a quick drink, or (obviously) if you're into antiques. read more

Such a fun shop, so much to explore! Vintage clothes, kitchen chachka, glassware, salt and pepper shakers from the 50s, holiday decor, yard art, and lots of vinyl - as in an album collection that feels like they bought my collection! The best deal - if you buy a vase, you are invited to fill it with fresh flowers you pick from the back garden. What? It's totally worth buying a vase just to get the gorgeous bouquet of dahlia, zinnia, cosmos, and more! The biggest surprise is that you can also get some delicious ice cream! It's perfect on a summer day as you are wandering the Hood River Fruit Loop or any season. The ice cream is soft serve, which is my fave. They have a shaded area next to the shop where you can sit and enjoy your treat. Check their website because in the off-season, they are typically open Fridays-Sundays only. It's a fun 6 as with most antique shops, you never know what treasure you'll find. And looking is just as much fun! read more

Quick stop when passing by. They don't have a lot of parking available and it was a bit tough to maneuver a bigger vehicle in. There were a handful of cars and the place is fairly small so it was quite crowded. They've got a nice display of collectibles, vintage clothing, decor, toys. They also have a (busy) ice cream/coffee counter. Cute shop, nicely organized. read more

Well, you'd think with the vintage carousel horses outside and the soda fountain drinks inside, this place would be kid friendly. That is absolutely not the case here. We had an unhappy child in our arms and one next to us, but really needed to find a gift for someone, but pretty much was asked to leave. Staff/owners (?) were very unkind towards us. I ended up at the Old Trunk unexpectedly on a day that a bunch of us were driving all over Hood River, loosely following the fruit loop. Tucked a bit of the road, I wasn't sure there would be much offered at this stop, but I was really wrong. Old Trunk has an exceptional collection of vintage clothing, kitchen items, linens and just about anything and everything else you can think of. I spent most of my time there looking through stacks old linens. They also have an old fashioned soda counter with a really cool machine that makes hard serve ice cream combined with fruit into soft serve! Definitely worth a stop! read more

Cute vintage shop with housewares, decor, vinyl records, children's items/toys, clothing, and various other antiques. It was well organized and clean, and their prices seemed reasonable. During the Spring & Summer they also have a little soda fountain where they serve Tillamook ice cream & coffee (I don't think they serve those later in the Autumn and Winter, based on their website, but I could be wrong). We came later in the Autumn, so we didn't get to enjoy their garden out back, but I've heard it's quite nice. Their parking lot is somewhat small, and by the time we left it was full so you may need to visit other local places and circle back if they're busy. read more

We visited this shop while traveling the Fruit Loop from Hood River not knowing quite whet to expect. I noticed the five star reviews on Yelp and decided it must be worth a pit stop along the way. Well, two vintage dresses and a scarf later and it was quickly one of my favorite stops along our thirty five mile loop through orchards and vineyards. From the minute we stepped inside, it felt like a place you'd want to hang out for awhile with a Mary Poppins record playing the classics (too fun!). This is a vintage treasure trove! The owner has impeccable taste- from dishes and decor to records and scarves, I had to keep myself from going overboard. I ended up purchasing two 60s-style retro dresses ($18 each) and a scarf. Note that you'll also find a small selection of homemade soda, kombucha and beer for sale here as well. A few of our other favorite stops along the Fruit Loop Trail included the Hood River Lavender Farm and The Gorge White House Fruit Stand and Winery. Such a fun place! Not only did we find a Hull vase, which reminded us of our mom, the owner let us fill it with gorgeous flowers from her own garden. They are known for their soft serve ice cream so my sister tried the cherry flavor. Tillamook ice cream blended with fresh organic bing cherries. She said it was the best she'd ever had! I'm so glad we ventured off the beaten track to find this gem! read more

We had the best experience at The Old Trunk! We stopped in on a very hot day in July and got a homemade huckleberry soda and marionberry soft serve! Both were beyond delicious and just what we needed on a hot day :) I believe they said the flavors were seasonal - so you know everything is fresh! What a fun hidden place. I ended up with some vintage swizzle sticks for cocktails (covid, amirite?) and we tried a soda (honey lavender) and soft serve (peach). The peoe who run it were so friendly and shared that the biz has been around since like 1930, when it was a cash only mill grocery store, then became a bookstore and is now a vintage antique shop. Worth a stop! Their outdoor patio is beautiful for chilling out for a few minutes. Also, vintage Playboy collection is on point! read more

This is a fun little thrift/antique store in the middle of nowhere. I've been in here a few times, and while I've yet to find anything to buy, I enjoy stopping in to look around. The people are really friendly, even helping set up a corner area where our kids could play with toys and do art. That allowed us to peruse the store and check out all the treasures. We'll be back again the next time we're in Hood River. read more

Such a fun store with AMAZINGLY tasty fresh fruit that you can pick or they pick for you. Also, so many different types of ciders! For the gluten-free girl I am, that was a surprising treat! There are tons of funky, fun, and unique pieces to take home as souvenirs or gifts for others. If we lived in the area, I would come here to buy all of the things to use as house decor! read more

I used to keep very accurate records of my book buys] HERES THE OLD REVIEW: This was one of the strangest book excursions I ever went on. Some one told me about this shop. And mentioned if I was ever in Hood River that I should stop. Well when i finally did I had a hard time finding the place. We almost gave up just before we finally located it. Inside when we were there, which was quite some time ago so it may be different now. It was quite rustic in the extreme. There were a lot of books but many were in poor shape and there seemed to be holes in the wall in various rooms! None the less given the amount of stock I knew I could pull out a few treasures by just looking carefully, which I did. The funniest part was when I asked where he kept the metaphysics books, he handed me a flashlight and showed me another house/room, and there in the dark by my self looking at books piled on shelves with my flashlight. Talk about ambiance! That was definitely a first. But I would go again if I was in the area. I would not however kill myself to get there. If you are a high end collector or afraid of the nitty gritty this is probably not the place for you. If your into adventure discovery and something interesting to tell your friends when you discuss your latest book finds ...then this might be the ticket. I usually write down what I buy at each store I go to and I thought you might find it interesting what I bought here. This place is awesome! Tons of unique things plus a soda shop. We walked away with a cool shelf, kids toys, a fairy wand plus a butter beer soda!! They have neat toy horses made with real saddles, tons of old records, dishes and more. They are open year round and worth the drive. I look forward to visiting next time we are in Hood River! read more

My best friend and I went for a girls weekend a few weekends ago and stopped in while we were at the Fruit Loop. The owners are new and so friendly! The decor is adorable and so much fun! The cute 50's linoleum tables and chairs are so great, and the saddle seats to the old time diner soda fountain area is adorable. I love the berry sodas! I can't wait to come back and have a longer look around as they get more settled in. This couple and their son are so creative and clever. My husband and I visited a booth at an antique show, featuring this antique business and we found it to be just wonderful. The owners were lovely and my only regret is that we wanted to buy more of what they had. We later visited their Hood River store and found it to be delightful...and they really do grow raspberries on their property! Dan & Karin are the new owners of this adorable establishment. This is the epitome of a Mom & Pop business with such great friendly service. I was a bike touring trip from Hood River back home to Portland via Lolo Pass and I had the pleasure of stopping in here. The decor is kitschy, but in this case it works because the homeyness extends beyond its decorations. I had wonderful conversation-- we talked about our lives, travels and interests--and was met with smiles and quick and speedy service. Sometimes these little places that serve coffee aren't impressive, but Dan fixed me a Mocha and it was AMAZING- bold, refreshing, and boosted my energy for the ride ahead. I also had delicious strawberries there too. Oh yeah, pint of strawberries + mocha = 5.50. You can tell immediately a business built with love--this is one of them--and I believe these people are what make America great. Go to them not only meet the wonderful owners, but to enjoy really good coffee + fruits at a very reasonable price. Next time I am in Hood River I will make it a point to stop by this tiny gem again. *As a note to future cyclists, this is basically the only place for food between Dee and ZigZag. Not a huge food selection but the basic pick me ups are here. read more
