I have lived here with my husband since summer 2022. Its had its ups and downs but now it's just horrible after our most recent experience. Apparently some gutter split and basically rain water flooded my neighbors apartment and then it came into our bedroom and SOAKED the floor. I mean you step on the carpet and water pooled at your foot. We moved all of our wet belongings off of the floor and told the office. At first maintenance came right away and sucked as much water as they could and set up two machines that had to run.... FOR FIVE DAYS. We had to rip our bed room apart and move a ton of stuff into the main living area. They had a hose into our bathroom sink we could not use, and the way we had to move our bed we could not even walk in our room. The smell of the sitting water smelled like mildew for at least three days. During this time we heard NO communication from any employee. Needless to say we couldn't live here during this time. This began Wednesday, June 24. It is now Monday June 29 and we JUST heard back from them. They need to replace the pad under our carpet but they do not know when or how much, the entire room or not. so we'll have to move all our bedroom furniture into our living space and not be able to live there again until this is done. Management REFUSES to compensate in any way on the days we could not stay here. They said "we never tell people to leave". WELL YEAH THEN YOUD HAVE TO PAY THEM. But we could NOT live here and they still do not care. read more

Will not being going back to this place. A guy named Calvin gave us a hard time for having a Service Dog with us. Saying that pets are not allowed that he had to check with the manager. Even though being told that it is a FEDERAL LAW that service dogs are allowed and presented him with proof of papers, he still gave us a hard time. Not approachable and rude. I'm sorry, but they need education on how federal law trumps any company policy. Also, most of the residents there have pet permit stickers to their doors, so giving us a hard time about an actual service dog, not just a pet like the other residents, was unacceptable. Very overpriced for what we got. Plus, they make you take out your own kitchen garbage at the end of the stay. Shouldn't housekeeping be responsible for that and that be included in the stay? BEWARE THE EYEBROW LADY!!! She'll greet you with kindness and kill you with fees. Her name is Lisa and she is a straight up horrible person. Come live in a castle, they said. It'll be fun, they said. What they do is basically the same standard greeting found in any reputable leasing office. They'll run you through the documents in a way that makes everything seem so transparent and friendly....because they want you to sign. Then you get the first letter notifying you of a fee being added to your rent for a seemingly innocent act. No warning, no verbal confrontation, no awareness any such fine even exists. And it won't be the last. At some point it becomes almost predatory, then it dawns on you this is why you are here. For them to make money off of and as much as possible before you get smart enough to catch on and move on. The best example of this is a third party service they incorporate called Poo Prints. Basically the service DNA registers your dog so they can track owners who don't clean up and hold them accountable. But when you go to their website, it's not marketed to businesses for accountability. Their key selling point is profitability. Seeing that is what made me realize they've adopted that formula into their entire business model through these types of hidden fees. The combined lack of upfront disclosure and their unwillingness to waive any, only solidifies this theory. They will always be nice to you upfront. Paul with his kind dad demeanor and down to earth, relatable small talk. Ivy with her drugged up, bubbly personality. Lisa with her painted on everything and mindless, Pleasantville attitude. And the ominous Calvin who mainly signs all your letters but with the most polite correspondence. Don't let any of them fool you. 1/14/21 Edit: I and several residents have contacted the the office. Sent emails to Aaron and other staff as well as follow ups. We either go weeks without a response if any at all or get brushed off and told it's being worked on but the issues go unresolved. So the staff comment to contact the office is laughable considering I and several others here are waiting for issues we have brought to their attention to be resolved. I have lived here for over 7 months. I wanted to give the property managers time to make things right. Needless to say nothing has changed and quite frankly has become worse. Emails and office visits occurs often but are never resolved. Multiple follow ups are required to accomplish the simplest of tasks. The Grand Castle will reel you in with all its grand amenities. Don't be fooled. Everything about the castle is poorly planned , constructed and poorly maintained. Simple projects go unfinished and worst the materials and equipment for the project lay all around the property. Everything from saws, windows, tubs countertops heavy equipment, Shipping containers Concrete forms from when they built the place. It's a scrap yard. It is clear they ran out of construction funds and needed to fill units to finish the place but still almost two years later they struggle. The Library is supposed to be the "crown jewel" it's shoddy at best. Constructed of Plywood. The Grand staircase is probably the best representation of The Grand Castle Apartments. The staircase looks great from a distance but then you find out doesn't meet code and is only used as a prop or background for promotional photos much like the other amenities here. The other staircase in the library isn't even secured at the base and feels unsafe. The game room and community rooms are open spaces feet from residents apartments and are unable to be used do to the noise disturbance they make for those living on the 8th floor. Halls reek of cigarette smoke and garbage. Although the property promotes a service to test dog feces and fine careless pet owners they do not follow through. The grounds are littered with feces. Children step in it, it's on side walks, stairs and has even been found in the halls. There is no lock in the pool and has become a Grandville community pool Where non residents come to drink and party forcing actual residents to either leave or fight for space they they pay rent for. The maintenance staff is woefully under staffed to maintain a 520 unit castle. Projects are completed in haste for the least amount of money possible with the craftsmanship ship and knowledge of a "For Dummies" book. That is if you can even get them to make repairs. The HVAC units in the 8th floor studios have mold forming and are pulling away from walls and the most that can be said is "we will make a note of it". Units throughout the castle are known to flood and effect not only the flooding unit but units and storage units below. If you have bulk garbage you have to walk it out to a bin sitting in the parking lot next to even more construction materials. On a windy day garbage from the bin is blown all over the lake making for a majestic sight of packing materials hanging from trees, boxes and styrofoam floating in the lake till it sinks or blows further away. Despite all the short comings and lack of diligence by the property owner and staff they are raising rents and for the life of me I am struggling to understand why. Nothing is better nothing is completed and no one cares. For the cost of a apartment in The Grand Castle you would be better off buying a home or renting a house in GR. The Castle is a disappointment and should be avoided at all costs. read more

EDIT: July 17th, 2021 Lmfao I live right across from the office and they have YET to respond to this review. Responding to all the positive ones. This place is a joke don't move here. I've lived here for almost two years now. First moving in it was great! Great people great staff and great amenities. About a month in our AC unit started leaking and created BLACK mold. I'm a restoration technician that deals with this on a daily so we called the office and he laughed on the phone and said "Well we don't know anything about mold but I'll make a note" We posted about it in our private fb group for the residents and of course he showed up. 8th floor lofts consistently LEAK from the gutters and they won't do anything about it. Dog shit on the walls and elevators. They let a registered sex offender live here for god knows how long ((In THEIR lease agreement it says specifically NO sex offenders or felons can live here)) and when we brought it to there attention Aaron dodge the property manager laughed at us and told us to turn our keys in. We JUST moved to a one bedroom right next to the office and let me tell you that's a shit show as well. Just please please please for the love of all that is holy DO NOT PAY YOUR MONEY TO LIVE HERE. GO to ALPINE AND LENARD and live in a craBEFORE THIS PLACE. Only reason I live here is because of my girlfriend and I love her dearly. Me and my 75 year old grandmother almost died in this complex due to the buildup of toxic methane gas in the trash chute rooms. Trash was left in these air tight rooms for so long, that it created a toxic gas that when released by opened the door, wafted into our apartment in our sleep. This has happened more than once, and I will never forget waking up unable to breathe, while my grandmother was choking and crying, gasping for air. Situations like these, when left long enough and compressed enough, can cause the methane to combust and explode. There are reports of this same scenario playing out where the building it happens in literally explodes, while residents are poisoned over time and eventually suffocate to death or suffer from brain damage.
