We were here to see Sara Evans (6/1/2023). Not much are opened at 7 pm around there other than a few restaurants right across the street. The place is beautiful. The staff are helpful and pleasant except during the "Meet and Greet" for the VIP tickets for after the show. More about that later. We got the "Lift" tickets, second row. Amazing seats! I do wish that they put just a little more space between the chairs, even if it another 2 inches on either side. The sound quality was excellent. The concert was top-notch. We traveled from out the town to attend this concert. Now about the "Meet and Greet". We got instructions from one of the ushers... no talking to Sara Evans, no asking for autograph, camera out ready, have 1 minute and move on... and some other more instructions. So we got up there, got a photo taken, and started walking away when Sara Evans stopped us and asked if we would like the shirt signed. Since she asked, we replied, "Of courses." That was when one of the ushers started to yell at us and kept saying," Didn't I say don't ask for an autograph? " she just kept repeating it and didn't want to listen to us. Another usher standing there had to finally go over and tell her that we didn't ask for the autograph and that Sara Evans offered. Thank you for the usher who stepped in. Overall, it was a wonderful concert at a wonderful venue.

My first visit to this historic opera house in downtown Wilmington. I saw an oldies show here on a Saturday night. Staff very friendly, all older or retired folks. Picking up a ticket at will call was easy. The will call is actually located in a separate door to the right of the main entrance. Several hostess people were available to show you to your seats. Because it is an old theater, the rows of seats on the floor are very tight and you have to get up and actually move out into the aisle to let people into their seats so that can be a challenge. The acoustics were good, and so the sound for the show was excellent. I had a nice first experience here. I did not use the restrooms so I cannot comment on those and I did not partake of the concession stand either, but I was surprised to see at the intermission that I guess they do sell beer an alcoholic beverages, with some theaters do not. There is floor and balcony seating, and it seems to be good sightlines from most places. I was row J close to center aisle & has a good view & sound all evening.

I am a volunteer, but have also seen shows here. The acoustics are awesome! The seating, check the map! Call the box office to make sure you aren't seated behind a pillar which can possibly impact your viewing of the stage.

An impressive theater, restored to its original beauty, with wonderful sight lines and excellent sound quality - this past Tuesday we returned to the Grand to see Dawes play a two act show and an encore. Our seats were in the first row on the balcony, closer to stage right. The reason this isn't 5 stars is there was NO LEG ROOM even for my short, squatty legs let alone my lady's long shapely legs. There were bathrooms on the balcony level as well as refreshments sold out of a closet with alcohol, soft drinks, water, and snacks available. On the first floor there was a much larger bar and the merchandise table for over priced merch whose sales help keep the band on the road. Parking is a hassle. There's no lot near the theater ala the soon to be closed World Cafe Live. You are lucky if you find a spot out front. Unfortunately, we weren't. We did find the Doubletree lot that's very close by and was reasonably priced. It's also right on the route to get onto 95.

This is a small venue. You probably won't see any big concerts here, but it's great for finding new artists and see some of your favorites at a reasonable price. I've attended concerts in both the main rooms in the opera house, the main hall is much better for concerts and doesn't have a bad seat in the house. The other hall can get a bit too loud due to it's size, but that didn't stop us from enjoying both concerts. The location is great because there are excellent restaurants around for before or after your show and the part of town is clean and inviting.

Fantastic performance from a bedazzling Irish band.

We Banjo 4 killed the audience last night. The performance was fantastic and fun. The Grand as an Army of volunteers who make this place Rock. Park in the Doubletree lot on King Street, no worries.

    moe. gig on 2/5/14.

It's pretty incredible that most of these people have full time jobs and dedicate a summer to this. They do an awesome job with sets, costumes, and singing! It's cute how excited kids get and they often have a meet and greet with the actors after the show. Pro tip: wait till the week of and check the weather before you buy tickets because if the show is rained out you can't get a refund and they might not decide until a half hour after the show, after delaying it several times (this happened last year) and you might not be able to make the rain date. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and outdoor jazz on Thursday evenings. Having had various professional affiliations with this organization over the past ten years or so, I've seen this orchestra experience remarkable growth in recent years, due in large part to the energetic and artistic leadership of conductor David Amado. I suspect most people don't even know the DSO had a national release (Telarc, I think!) recording last year with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. (Which was nominated for a Grammy!) They're that good! The DSO has been progressive in their programming with a nice mix of the standards, and a few out of the box productions like the orchestral scores to the Bugs Bunny cartoons - performed live WITH the films. But most importantly, the orchestra is composed of first rate musicians, performing in the historic, beautiful (though admittedly - a bit dry) hall that IS the Grand Opera House. (Worth going to a concert just to catch a glimpse of Wilmington, circa 1900!) As one who has become increasingly passionate about supporting local enterprise, be that the nearby, sustainable farms or family owned fine dining establishments, I hope more Delawareans will come to realize that they have this fine orchestra right here in town. The sets and costumes looked professional. I liked that the cast members were available after the show in a large room off to the side of the theatre for pictures, autographs, etc. We got a signature from the actress who played the cow, one of the better bovine performances I've ever seen. :) The show was about 90 minutes long, including an intermission where you could get water, juice boxes, and cookies. Tickets for this show were $10 each, and there was plenty to keep the parents interested in the show as well. In the front, the building looks like a large Delaware Ave mansion (which it probably was), and behind the house section is a large theatre attached, able to seat about 150 people (guesstimate). The chairs are not attached to the floor, and several of the rear rows are raised up, but its not uncommon to have to perch a smaller child on your lap. All the seating is general admission. The Theatre is located right at the top of the Rte 52 exit off I-95 southbound. A pretty charming experience all around. My kids want to go back to the Winnie the Pooh show in May. A much more rewarding time than a trip to the movies, at about the same price (or less when you consider popcorn and drink prices).
