The outdoor attractions however, are accessible 24/7. The site, known as the Gem of the Caribbean, was established in 1952 as the Virgin Islands National Historic site. It was intended to preserve the site history and associated buildings. The site got its new name in 1961. It was the first National Parks Service's properties in the Virgin Islands. The park spans 7 acres and has benches and picnic tables placed along its grounds. You will also find a gazebo and a statue of David Hamilton Jackson, known as Black Moses. The center piece of the site is Fort Christiansted, a bright yellow fort built in 1749 by the Danish. In all there are 5 historical buildings on the site that were constructed between 1740 and 1856 and made of yellow bricks made in Denmark and brought over as the ships' ballast. The buildings are as follows: the Scale House (1856), the Customs House (1841), the Danish West India and Guinea Company Warehouse (1749), the Government House (1747) and the Church of Our Lord Sabbath Steeple Building (1753). The site grounds has tons of informational placards placed around that explains the significance and location of each key building. I believe the only one that you can currently go into is the Fort (You can walk through the Pump House though). Some say you have to pay a fee to visit here. However, I didn't. I just walked right in. It was no staff there and I had to do a self guided tour. But that was cool since they had informational placards all over the place to help guide me. The site has a lot of green space to run around on too. The site is divided into two are that are separated by Hospital Street. There is the large section with a lot of the green space, a gazebo, the Customs House, the Fort, benches and picnic tables. On the other side of the street is a much smaller area with informational signage, a little green space with some benches, the Danish West India and Guinea Company Warehouse, and the Steeple Building. The Scale House is between the 2 sections at the Hospital Street's bend. This is a nice place to visit, especially for the history buffs. It highlights the Danish influence and eco mic structure on the island. It is located in the heart of St Croixs' tourist area. I would probably plan on spending 2 to 3 hours here if you are going to hit all the sites. The buildings and grounds and well preserved and maintained and are definitely worth a visit while on the island. Fun Fact: Alexander Hamilton's mother was imprisoned in the Fort for a few month's Tip: Do not park in the lot after hours. You will more than likely get ticketed, booted and/or towed.

What we found is that you really can only tour the fort and see the old scale in the scale house. That said, it was a really nice site, well maintained and informative. What I keep finding out on these St. Croix parks is that the info on the website is not correct for the most part. IN the case of this one, they changed the operating horus from 8am to 8:30 am. A little frustrating given the parking hell that is Christiansted. Even though the gate to the parking lot was opened at 8am for an employee, they would not let us in so we had to drive down the road and sit for 30 minutes, then make our way back to the parking lot at 8:30. We still had to wait until someone in our party reminded them to come down and unlock the gate. A little frustrating. Luckily, it was okay as there was a lot less to see at the site than I had expected. The fort is very nicely designed for visitors and information. You can wander all over with a self guided map that goes over the different areas of the fort and what happened in the different locations. There is also some history and interesting info on Alexander Hamilton and his family. Note there are a lot of stairs and uneven walking areas at the fort. It may be challenging for people who have difficulty walking, whether wheelchair bound, on crutches, etc. Overall, it's a really nice site and the staff seemed friendly. I definitely recommend folks visit if they are interested in National Parks, like I am. Also, info for the National Parks Passport Stamp Program: There are three cancellations stamps available: Christiansted National Historic Site, Buck Island, and Salt River Bay National Historic Park and Ecological Preserve. Enjoy!

Calling Franko, he stated that his wife did not give him the correct time. Twenty-five minutes later he arrived, did not apologize for being late, and stated that he would be with us shortly. We waiting there for 15 more minutes while he spoke with one of their other drivers who was there for a pickup. Finally, we started our private tour without he caring or apologizing for wasting our time that we paid for. At numerous stops, he would speak with their other drivers and try and arrange transportation for people waiting at these stops while we wasting our time that we paid for. He did not care about our time, our private tour, he was more interested in booking additional transfers. THIS WAS THE WORST SERVICE, TOUR AND WASTE OF MONEY. The previous day we had a private tour with PREMIUM VIP SERVICES SXM in St Maarten, which was the complete opposite of Brenda and Franko's. Brenda and Franko should go to St Maarten and book a tour with PREMIUM VIP SERVICES SXM to see how a private tour should be run. I would NOT recommend Brenda and Franko's Fun Tours. They are interested in making money more than providing a great service. Franko did not apologize for being late and wasting our time until I mentioned it at the end.

Instead, Eddie of Pandora tours answered the phone as cheerfully as could be and then proceeded to tell him that he could do a tour for the following morning. Eddie staying in touch with me via text and was waiting for me and my wife and kids in a very nice van the next morning outside my hotel. Eddie had water and bananas for us and was an incredible wealth of knowledge about Puerto Rico, it's history, geography, and especially it's ecology. My son and daughter were a challenge for Eddie as my son has a hard time focusing and my daughter is very shy. Eddie was able to get through and interact with both of them during the course of the tour. Eddie took us the the El Yunque rainforest, first to the visitor center to see a few things in the museum and watch a great video about El Yunque. We then proceeded down the most popular trail and down to La Mina falls, which was in a word, "awesome." The water was so fresh, it actually felt like it gave me energy. The trail was a bit of a challenge, but we all handled it well, especially the kids. We also went to the Yocahu Tower to get a breathtaking view of the forest and we were able to see all the way down to the coast. Finally, we stopped at La Coca waterfall for a great photo op! On the way back to the hotel, Eddie must have read my mind, because he answered a question right as I was about to ask it, and took my family to the best locals BBQ joint in San Juan for a quick bite to eat. He certainly didn't need to do that, but he took the extra time, since he could tell we were hungry. All in all, Eddie is a class act, incredibly knowledgeable, and I came away feeling like we made a new friend here in Puerto Rico. Skip anyone else for this tour...go with Eddie and Pandora Tour Puerto Rico. You will not be disappointed.

**This is a fairly long review - but highly informative!**…read more I booked an El Yunque hike with Pandora a few months ago based on some reviews I had read - and my wife and I are glad that we did! Our driver (and owner of the company) was Eddie. I got a couple of follow up texts and emails from Eddie confirming our pick-up time and a text 20 mins before we were supposed to get picked up...gotta love that follow up! We started out for the hike about 10 mins earlier than expected. We were supplied with water, soda and fruit for the trip. Along the way, we were given a lot of information - current and historical - on the areas we were driving through and the island in general. Once we got there, we watched a video on the rainforest that really tied together the information we had received on the ride in. We then trekked it up the mountain in the van until we hit the trailhead. The hike from the La Mina trail was amazing! So many photo-ops, plus there's a waterfall (wear shoes good for hiking and water of you're going to swim). The trail was mostly down-hill and paved....but it was closed at the waterfall, so the walk back was uphill and a little rough. Don't let that deter you ....We wouldn't have traded the experience for anything! After the hike and more photos on the way down the mountain (which lasted about 90 mins total), Eddie took us over to a local eatery near the airport...the food was great and cheap (even if we got the world's worst waitress! LOL). After lunch, we headed back to the hotel. Eddie asked us what we were getting into the rest of the day, so we told him we were headed to Old San Juan for the afternoon. Eddie offered to give us a ride down there (which we gladly accepted). He allowed us time to go up to our room and change before we left. He picked it's up in his personal car and drive us over...still giving us great information about the island, and also life - advice we will surely cherish. He left us near the docks - and I must say, it was a little sad ending our time with him. It was like being with an Uncle you haven't seen in a while. He really takes care of people, and seems to genuinely enjoy what he does. He puts a lot of hard-work into perfecting his craft as an excursionist and it really shows. I know it has already been said in another review, but we honestly do feel like we have made a friend in Puerto Rico, and will definitely be calling WHEN we come back! Thank you very much for your time today, Eddie...We thoroughly enjoyed it - you made our vacation extremely memorable and special!

We arrived on time and we were warmly greeted by the captain and 2 crew. After a basic safety briefing we charted out towards Culebra in overcast weather. Instead of Culebra we settled on the uninhabited beach of Caya Luis Pena before Culebra with crystal clear waters in about 20 minutes. The waters were translucent clear turquoise and beach sand was pristine. Water temp was around 79-80F. Weather was overcast and comfortably cool. They laid out a simple light sandwich buffet for lunch with beers and tropical cocktails. Snorkeling, swimming and relaxing for a few hours, we spotted small schools of fish and a very cool bachelor Stingray circling looking for scraps. Crew was incredibly friendly and helpful and everyone enjoyed the short beach visit. The return trip was much smoother and after jumping back on the bus we were able to stop by a bbq joint for coconuts and fried stuffed empanadas.
