Poor customer service!! Flagged downs e of their 18 wheelers that drove through the front entrance of our neighborhood past the no trucks sign. He waved a green piece of paper at me and told me he could come in that entrance any time he wanted to. Called the company directly to complain about their truck driving in the wrong entrance and tearing up our street. Scott promised to address the entrance issue but when I talked to him about his driver's rudeness, he told me I shouldn't have "yelled at" his driver. (I did not.). Be cautious of any company that makes excuses for poor employee behavior. read more

I ordered 10 pallets of Bermuda grass and 2 pallets had totally dry dead grass and dry dirt (grass crumbled if you touch it) - the other 8 pallets were fine and alive and moist grass and dirt (what I expected all to be like). I called to let them know and "Scott" picked up and began to tell me that the grass gets yellow and it's fine. I told him this grass was pretty green but dead and dry and not like the rest. He got infuriated that I interjected a comment while he was trying to relay what seems to be his typical spiel to customers explaining how dead grass is normal or something. Scott asked me to send pictures, but I explained that the dead grass looked better than the grass that was alive and that pictures wouldn't show how crispy dead these two pallets were. Scott again reprimanded me for interjecting a comment - I didn't realize it was a lecture and not a conversation. He got extremely defensive. In his defense, he did say that if I water it everyday and the grass from those two pallets don't come back to life (ironic that he would say that since he was insisting it wasn't dead in the first place) he would personally come out and inspect it and replace it for me. While the end result, from my verbally abusive session with Scott, was what I expected from the outset of my call, it's not worth the journey I had to take to get there. I've never had an experience like that ever before with any company. Scott and is in urgent need of several weeks of customer service training. Poor product, terrible customer service. I really don't understand these negative reviews as my experience with the Grass Patch was extremely positive. We moved into a new construction home with basic sod/sprinkler/minimal landscaping. After contacting the company, Bill Jones came out to visit the property and talk about our ideas and some of his own thoughts/suggestions. He then sent me a few pics and concepts as well as a drawing/quote. After some back and forth, we agreed on a price and plan for a copped limestone flowed in front with some additional plant for color, landscape lighting out front,and a raised limestone herb garden in back. Some of the sprinkler system also needed to be reworked as well. After several rain delays (not their fault), the crew showed up early in the day and worked almost until sundown on the project. We couldn't be happier with their work and won "yard of the month" in our neighborhood. The only thing which prevented a 5 star was the technician forgot to set the lights to come on automatically at night as originally requested, but they fixed it two days later. read more

Outstanding landscaping design and service company! I've bought some things from The Grass Patch over the years but never realized that they were a full-service landscaping company. After meeting with Brad Hamburg, my wife and I decided on allowing The Grass Patch to redo our yard. We finished having a pool installed and shared with Brad our vague ideas of wanting Texas native plants, easily maintainable yard, correcting some drainage issues, fixing our sprinkler system, etc. After five days of hard work, Brad, Leo, Miguel, and the team delivered a backyard that we are proud of, and we can't wait to see it blossom this spring! I ordered a pallet of St. Augustine grass on Tuesday and it was delivered the next day (fantastic). The delivery charge was $95.00; a little high but it was convenient and acceptable to me. The pallet was $135.00 and was very reasonable and less than other local companies in Austin. The problem was the grass. The truck showed up and it was the last one one the truck. The grass was very dry and hard. This would been a good time for me to refuse it but I did not. Out of the 450 Sq Ft. on the pallet, 30% of it was green and ready to go. Fifty percent of it was brown, dry, and coming apart. The other 20% was unusable and was discarded. I am not happy with The Grass Patch and would not go back. If you would like a yard with tons of weeds then the grass patch is your place. I have been in my new house for approximately two weeks and have spent hours on my knees pulling weeds. The house came sodded front and rear with Saint Augustine that was supplied by the grass patch. I will give props for the irrigation system, the zones are actually laid out in a common sense pattern, my old system was not! So props for the irrigation system , but the sod is a sub par product. read more

We needed a pallet of grass so we assumed that this would be the place to go. The receptionist on the phone was helpful and very nice. It arrived on time, and the driver was courteous and called me ahead of time. But that's where it stops. The grass was yellow on the top. Two layers were bone dry. None of it was very green. Hopefully, it will still work with lots of water but I am extremely disappointed. We got beautiful grass at Lowes but I couldn't buy a whole pallet. read more

I have to update my review in light of the poor customer service we are receiving regarding our purchase of bermuda grass last Oct. 2016. We are having lots of brown spots and I and my husband have made no less than 5 calls/texts (with pictures) to the sales rep, Charles Reynolds, and April (the person answering the phone). Charles has told us each time he would get right back to us, but hasn't to date. I am also perplexed by the low ratings for these guys. We've used Grass Patch for the past 5+ years and couldn't be happier. We use them for our regular maintenance (they always go above and beyond what other landscaping/mowing groups do), special projects like landscape borders, irrigation repairs, and outdoor lighting. Truly, I couldn't be happier. They do great work. Bill Jones is excellent and super easy to work with...he also always comes on site several times during a special project job. It can be a tad difficult to get them to respond to emails super quickly, but I expect this in this field of work when they're out and about so much and not at their computer. They came in with a huge team of workers and totally transformed our backyard into an oasis in just over a week. I'm a landscaper and I just used the Grass Patch for the first time. I drove 3 hours round trip to pick up 2 pallets of a specific Bermuda grass. One pallet was descent , the second was horrible. 75 % of it was extremely too thin cut. You could actually see daylight through it. I've been landscaping for 12 years and it was the worst. I'm never going back again and buyer try to check really good before you accept. It's difficult to tell with large stacked pallets. read more

Order a pallet of saint augustine was told that it was supposed to be 450 square feet, was shorted 50 square feet. Argued with the man at the front desk and basically kept saying they didn't short me... very unprofessional. Makes me look bad as well when I have to tell my client that I have to charge them an additional 50 square feet. Which in the end I would have to eat. Can't imagine doing a larger orders, 50 square foot off of each pallet starts to add up. Wouldn't recommend this place, I'll be taking my business else where going forward. I bought some Sod from these guys this year, they are ok... Bit unorganized and rude when they couldnt find my grass, blamed it on me even though there phone lady didnt order it they found out later. I was irritated, but they delivered it for free later on, so that made up for it, saved me like 90 dollars and beautiful sod! Very frustrating...I placed an order for grass and was informed that depending on the weather (there has been excessive rain this week) that my order would be delivered on Friday, May 10th, that's understandable . My order was placed and I was informed that I would receive a call the day before should the weather prevent delivery. The night before I checked my messages and no message was received. This lead me to believe that my delivery would be made as arranged. Then on Friday morning, day of delivery, @ 9:30 I decided (just to be on the safe side) to confirm my schedule appointment. I spoke with a individual (male), who stated he would double check. He came back on the line and started yes, he found my invoice and that "guys were coming back from other deliveries and that I probably would be on the second run," He even verified the address for delivery, I confirmed that the information was correct and thanked him for checking on my order. I waited the entire day (taking off work) and at 4:50, I called after no delivery and was informed by Marah, that it was changed to Monday. I had not receive any notification of the change, via phone or text! Her attitude was flippant, and she just kept saying "You were contacted." I have never placed a comment on YELP, However, with the way this company has conducted itself, I felt it important to share my experience. There are lots of companies out there that when they say they are going to do something they follow through with it! With a PROFESSIONAL and HONEST demeanor. This company is not one of them. I canceled my order. My advice to others even if you have to pay a little bit more it is worth it rather than dealing with a company like this one! Nice people to deal with, but I was not real happy with the sod I received. It was not consistent thickness and had many pieces that were basically unusable because they were too thin. I ordered 7 pallets. We ended up with some low spots and had to use partial pieces to complete the lawn. Many pieces didn't have enough dirt attached to make then worthwhile. It made our job much more difficult. I was new to this so I was not sure if this was normal for all places, but then I completed another project for my daughter in a different state and we did 11 pallets and they were all uniform with zero unusable pieces. Both were St Augustine. The Grass Patch needs to work on their quality control. read more

Used to be really good, now they don't have time for us little folks. We've used The Grass Patch for many years on several of our homes, including the full sod and landscaping for our house in Feb 2016. After spending over $30k on irrigation and landscaping just 2 years ago, when we had an issue with the sprinkler controller and wanted to add some additional landscaping, we were told it wasn't worth their time. We went elsewhere for the landscaping, but wanted to get Grass Patch out since the controller was still under warranty. Despite the warranty they wanted $95 for a trip charge and $85 for each hour that they would spend checking each zone (guesstimate of 3-4 hours). Even when we agreed to that, they never showed up or even called back. I guess the builder business is much more important than us little guys now. read more

Horrible service and charged for services not rendered. If it rains you will NOT get your lawn cut until the next week, and that is only if you call them. They will try to charge you for services they never performed and will NOT return your emails when you question their services. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! There are plenty to choose from. I used them for 2 years (as a landlord) and realized they charge you a full month regardless of what they did. We are securing council for the return of services not rendered. I was recently ordered 3 pallets of zeon zoysia with the explicit note that I had to have it by a certain date. No problem since we are a week out. On delivery day they say they left me a msg (none received) but when I called they told me they needed more orders before they can get my grass. Thanks for nothing. And when I have my house concert with 50 guests on Wednesday evening, there will be a huge sign in the middle of what should be grass with a note explaining your business practices to all to see. BTW King Ranch Grass came through for me and they told me they hear my story about the grass patch all of the time. read more

I contacted the Grass Patch to help me with my backyard design. I quickly received a confirmation email from the company as well as a phone call. I made an appointment with Alan Davidson who was at my house at the assigned date and time. He looked at my back yard, made some design suggestions, and said he would like to come back to take pictures of my yard to give me a better idea of price and ideas. I never received a call back from Alan or the Grass Patch. Its been over two months and I moved on and contacted another landscape artist. Be warned, if you do business with this company you may never see them again. I haven't heard or seen from them again. They saved me a lot of time, energy and effort. read more

The Grass Patch is the worst. I closed on my home 04/28/2017 and my first three utility bills were 376.78(219.74 was water), 377.83 (194.82 was water) and 420.30 (193.52 was water) respectively. I am extremely conservative when it comes to using the electricity and water. I called and spoke to Austin Energy representatives and they sent a representative to my home two different times, check if I had a water leak on the city's side. Both times the Austin Energy representatives concluded that there was no leak on the city side and recommended that I contact the builder to see if the builder did something wrong. I contacted the builder, Castle Rock, and they referred me to a company called "The Grass Patch", the company that installed the sprinkler system underground. When I contacted The Grass Patch, they sent one of their workers to inspect my underground sprinkler system. The "Grass Patch" employee dug some deep holes in my yard and found two of the underground holes filled up with water from the sprinkler pipes. The water was pouring out from the pipes rapidly in vast amounts. This was happening in the front yard on the left side of my driveway and in the front yard on the right side of my driveway. Castle Rock's construction foreman came to see the issue for himself. The Grass Patch worker stated to me and the foreman, "whoever did the pipe work did not do a good job" and that the piping work was poorly done. The worker from "The Grass Patch" had to completely replace large sections of the piping in my front yard on both sides of my driveway. They wrote a letter to the City of Austin utilities on my behalf not wanting to admit fault, but just saying that, a leak was located" and that they repaired it. It didn't go into a lot of detail, but the lady that I spoke to, April, said it should "suffice for what Austin Energy needs" to enroll me in their water reimbursement program. She ended up having to write two letters, because the first one she sent back to me to submit to them didn't even have the right name or address on it. The repair was completed on 8-3-17 and the next utility bill I received after the repairs was 278.86 (47.81 was water), a significant difference. The city of Austin said since it wasn't really their fault, they would reimburse me $132.58 just to help with the bill, but advised that the builder, Castle Rock, or the contractors that actually did the work, The Grass Patch, should be responsible for reimbursing me for the faulty work done and for the high utility bill charges that were beyond my control. I requested a reimbursement from "The Grass Patch" in the Amount of $624.57 for the overage of my utility bills due to faulty construction of my underground sprinkler system. I had email correspondence with Brad Hamburg at the Grass patch. Along with information on an Excel Spreadsheet, previous correspondence between me and Grass patch as well as me and the City of Austin Utilities Department, all my City of Austin Utility Bills received since my closing at the end of April. I sent to following email to the Grass Patch. My average monthly cost should have been $22.38/mo., but instead was $202.69/mo., because of the leak caused by faulty construction of the sprinkler system. So, for 4 months, my utility bills were $180.31 higher than they should have been. The City of Austin Utility Department only gave me $132.58 in credits towards the total of all the bills. That means that Grass patch should reimburse me the difference in overage. 4 months of overage at $180.31/mo. = $721.24 Total Overage. $721.24 of total overage - $132.58 City of Austin Utilities Credit = $588.66 Total Overage. $588.66 Total Overage + $35.91 Late Fees = $624.57 I should be reimbursed the total amount of $624.57. This price does not include the numerous days I've had to take off work and hours I've had to spend on the phone dealing with this issue and trying to get it resolved over the past several months. Brad Hamburg from Grass Patch replied with the following statement: "I have received authorization that a check will be mailed to you in the amount of $132.58 on Friday, 12/10/17". "Our Policy for Builder purchased work is to only warranty the repair and not to cover any water loss". "Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for all costs during the duration of the water usage that we feel is a homeowner's responsibility to monitor and take action". "Let me know if I can assist you in any other way. Brad Hamburg Landscape Design/Sales LI0007638" As soon as I noticed that there was an issue, because the first two water bills close to $400 didn't make sense, I acted. Had they done the job correctly, there would be no issue. I asked them to send me the check, but explained it doesn't resolve the issue and that they should reimburse the amount I asked. Then Brad refused saying he wasn't sending or doing anything. He also refused to give me the name or number to anyone higher. read more

They quoted me a great price to install sod in the back of the house and since they were doing the lawn in front of my house as a builder contractor, I went with them because I was told that is the only way to keep the warranty on the equipment valid. I payed them money on the 3rd of March and it's been almost 6 weeks now and still no sign of them starting the work. Please do not fall for their price quotes, they predominantly do commercial work and fill in with residential work when needed. Basically you could be waiting months before someone will come in and install sod. read more

I originally contacted The Grass Patch because they were very close to our neighborhood and there were not a lot of other options that had an established place of business nearby. They never appeared interested in my business, I could not get my phone calls returned by Gabriel (their design guy) after his initial visit. Two days after they were supposed to provide their bid to me I started calling. When I finally got in touch with him he indicated he had been tied up and would get me the bid within 24 hours. Another 2 days later and several phone calls to try and contact Gabriel, I called the main office and indicated to another representative that I was having a difficult time getting in contact with Gabriel. Later that day I received the bid with the excuse the server had been down (not sure how that explained the non-returned phone calls, or for that matter assuming that was true, calling me to let me know they were having technical problems and the bid would be late). I am disappointed...why? Aside from the obvious, I really was hoping to support a local business near to my home, I liked that they had an established place of business and wouldn't "disappear" tomorrow (although suspecting that may still be a possibility based on this experience), and overall felt that Gabriel was pleasant and knowledgeable about the industry based on the one time he was out to our home. Unfortunately I will now re-start my search for someone else who is interested in my business and serving the Leander community. read more
