Though the accommodations are nice and the location is close to the West Entrance of Glacier National Park, the new owners are not hospitable people and seem a bit unhinged.... For example, we arrived late one evening from Glacier Park, around 9:00 pm, and I was planning to make some spaghetti for a later dinner for my two kids. When I looked for a pot to boil the noodles, however, I couldn't find one, and then I saw the sign by the phone in the cabin that read "If you need anything," to call their service number. When I called the number, there was no answer, and since I had stayed at the Great Bear Inn before, I walked over to the main building, which was always open for guests, to find someone to help. When I found the place quiet and the manager's office closed, however, I went into the public kitchen area and took a pot, walked back to my cabin, and made the spaghetti. After my family ate the food, I washed and cleaned the pot and returned it to the kitchen. The following day I called the landlady, named "Bunny," and asked what I needed to do to check out the following day. When she asked me why I had called the previous night, I explained I needed to borrow a pot to cook spaghetti, but after I tried calling and then walked over to the office and found no one to help, I borrowed one from the public kitchen area, used it to boil the noodles, and after eating, I had cleaned the pot and promptly returned it to the kitchen. Bunny was irate and scolded me for doing this, insinuating that I had broken some sort of unpublished rule that the kitchen was off limits to guests. When I objected and said that I had both called and walked to the office for help, she was became rude to me, saying that she had an early bedtime schedule and could not be bothered after 9:00 pm. When I expressed my dissatisfaction at this blatant disregard of the customer's need, she became hostile, and when I told her that I had paid over $1500 to stay in the supposedly furnished cabin for three nights and therefore had a reasonable expectation to have the place furnished as was stated in the advertisement. When Bunny insisted that the pot I had needed was included in the kitchen area, I looked once again and finally found it -- but it was stored behind a wooden panel that was stuck due to poor maintenance of the property. When I explained this to her she was entirely unsympathetic and cold toward me... I have no ill-will toward Bunny and her husband Larry who manage the new version of the "Great Bear Inn." I had stayed at the resort twice before in previous years and under the former management my experience then was happy and the service was excellent. However I can no longer recommend the Great Bear Inn because the new management apparently has no idea of what decent customer service means. Let me close by saying that on the day of our departure, Larry, the husband of Bunny, aggressively came to the cabin and pounded on the door telling us to get out because it was almost 11:00 AM. At the time I was washing dishes we used there because there was a sign posted that said that all residents must wash the dishes before leaving, but Larry told me to just forget it and get out... He and Bunny then sat in their noisy ATV jeep in front of cabin until we finished packing the car and we drove off.... Disgraceful and childish behavior, to say the least, and I will NEVER stay at the Great Bear Inn again. For these and other reasons, not the least being the $500 per night price for staying there, I EMPHATICALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THE GREAT BEAR INN. read more

Very clean, quaint, secluded place to stay. The hosts were very kind and fixed an amazing breakfast. We had some mechanical problems on the motorcycle and he helped us out with that as well. Great shower, bed was soft but I slept like a baby. I'll be coming back someday! read more

We stayed here in early June 2021. Beautiful property and Lodge. The room was large, nice furnishings and linens,and spotless. The view was beautiful and green. The owners were attentive and made fabulous Huckleberry Pancakes, along with other hot breakfast items.The coffee pot and mini fridge in the room were perfect for early mornings and keeping snacks cold. I would highly recommend to anyone staying in the West Glacier area. My only suggestion is to limit pool table hours to 10 or 11pm when people are staying in the lower room. We had someone playing pool outside our room for 6-7 hours straight every night, until past midnight. read more

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful throughout the booking process and beyond - Bunny and Larry even drove my mom to the airport (30 minutes away) at the end of our stay. The reviews on this place do not exaggerate. It is absolutely wonderful. The rooms were very comfortable with temperature controls (I run hot) and a comfortable bed and pillows. The entire place was very clean and quiet. The views from the deck were stunning. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. But the best part of this place are the people who run it. Now under new ownership! The Great Bear Inn was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Now owned by a former logger and a retired schoolteacher, the Great Bear Inn is the ideal location to get you in and out of Glacier National Park; less than 15 minutes and you are at the entrance. Even though you are so close, the Great Bear Inn still offers the seclusion of the woods and Montana wilderness. The Inn is absolutely stunning. As you approach you can see a beautiful deck along the entire front of the Inn with plenty of seating and a huge grill. Once you are inside on the main level, the entire front of the home overlooking the deck and yard is windows with sunshine streaming in. Plenty of comfy seating is available in the living room right in front of a beautiful and massive fireplace. The kitchen is open and a chef's dream and the dining room has windows on three sides of the room to let the sunshine in! Also available on the main level is a powder room. Guest rooms are available on the main level, second floor and basement, as well as two cabins set away from the main house but still on the property. We stayed in a basement room. The basement has a wonderful common area with fireplace and pool table, bookshelves and games. The basement is also filled with windows and walls out to a lovely patio. Also available down here are a washer and dryer for your use (just not between 10am-2pm) and iron and board. Out basement bedroom was quite large! The room included sliding glass doors for patio access as well as a beautiful stone gas fireplace. The canopy king bed was extremely comfortable! The bathroom was huge and was such a nice surprise! And I would also like to mention that the room was spotlessly cleaned! Also in the room: a futon allowing up to 4 people to stay in the room, two rocking chairs, desk, dual vanities, mini fridge. It was absolutely the perfect place to hang our hats for a few days! Breakfast is served from 6-10am. I hugely appreciated the early breakfast option so you have plenty of time to beat the crowds and hit the trails as soon as possible. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs and pancakes daily, but a couple days we were there and enjoyed bacon, sausage, hash browns, and French toast. There is also always an assortment of fruit. The best part though was definitely the homegrown strawberries and raspberries! We had a late breakfast start the morning of our check out and missed the fresh strawberries, but when we checked out we were given our own bowl of strawberries! It was the kindest touch. At the front desk is a bottle of bug spray to use before you hit the trails and bear spray is available to rent here as well! No need to spend money on something you will only be using for a few days. This was hands down the best bed and breakfast experience we have ever had and truly cannot wait to visit Glacier National Park again and stay at the Great Bear Inn! We had a very pleasant time at Great Bear. It is stunningly beautiful. It is very quiet and peaceful. This is for those that truly want to get away from it all. There were a couple of surprises, however. Our room was nice...but I reserved a second story room but we were put on the ground floor. It was very pretty but had no view and not what I asked for. When we arrived we were directly shown into our room and told dinner was at 7 or 8. Everyone was very friendly but we could definitely tell it was the end of the season. I would only recommend this Inn for those that truly want peace and quiet. There is a social wine hour and you do share dinner family style at night. It would also be ideal for a large party that wants a weekend retreat. read more

What a nice way to end our day in Glacier National Park. We arrived at the Great Bear Inn around 4:00 and we were greeted warmly. Our room was very cute!! And the attached bathroom was amazing! Given that it was 97 degrees that day, the new A/C system was much appreciated. We were reminded that The Great Bear Inn is a BYOB establishment and that there was a gourmet dinner included in the stay. My husband went out to get beers and wines and we enjoyed drinking beers while hanging out with the chefs watching them prepare our evening meal. It was a very "homey" environment and the open kitchen was perfect for watching the chefs work. The 3-course dinner was served at a long table which seats approx. 16-18 people... it was not served "family-style" but instead with individual plates prepared according to any food issues you might have mentioned when registering. Our meal was fantastic and the chefs would come talk with us while we were eating to get our opinions. My husband and I think it would be a great place for a family reunion .... but you would have to book way in advance to get the place!! Family-friendly and Family-Like. Great Bear Inn was a wonderful reprieve after a long day of hiking and exploring Glacier National Park It is located off the beaten path in a remote area. You have to drive down a gravel road for a bit. The Inn is tastefully decorated in a Southwestern decor. (Although I wasn't crazy about the bear skin and stuffed animals, I otherwise enjoyed the interior.) They have a nice continental breakfast from 4 am-11. They also have washers and dryers for their guest. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would.... The Great Bear Inn may be my favorite place to stay on Earth. The inn is incredibly beautiful, very warmly decorated and surrounded by some of the most gorgeous unspoiled wilderness left in the lower 48. The owner and staff are also extremely warm and hospitable ... staying at the inn felt like I was staying at my home away from home. My only disappointment is that we had to leave. Senna (I hope I spelled your name correctly) and Danny, thank you! There are not enough positive words for The Great Bear Inn! We stayed here October 6-9, 2020. We had the most wonderful time and experience! The area and location are beyond exceptional, the food is wonderful, and the rooms are amazing. Short, easy drive to the gates of Glacier National Park. The scenery is absolutely breath-taking and the owners Bunny and Larry are just incredible. They are friendly, inviting, and very very kind. Not to mention they are phenomenal cooks and could easily rally against any restaurants! Absolutely wonderful place, even better people, and would highly recommend and will be returning one day! This trip was the first time we tried any bed and breakfasts and it has made us never want to stay in a hotel again if we can help it! read more

Terrible customer service. We planned to stay here as a good jumping off point for GNP adventures and to partake in their 'reputable' hospitality. Except all of our additional lodging and excursions for the long labor day weekend are closed due to current and ongoing fire, Lake McDonald Lodge for the rest of the season as a case in point. Yes, you have a strict no-cancel policy, but acts of nature and special circumstances should prevail, especially when all of this fire is essentially 7 miles away. Sorry, not interested in just spending all my time in your Lodge, suffering through poor air quality with our toddler, and not being able to partake in other thrills. You're a lovely location, but... our call to cancel was met with 'we'll refund you half of your 2 night stay as a credit, good for 1 year' and well, 'it's supposed to rain soon, it's not really that bad here, and we're a desirable place to stay'... sure that fixes nothing for us, but if true you should have no issues finding a replacement for our vacated reservation, making your policy an even more robust smack in the face. Terrible customer service which creates just the right amount of friction for us to never want to stay there and take advantage of our extra special credit. So after you fill our vacated slot with a waitlist patron, you'll be sure to earn not just 1.5 times the price on the same room, but double. Ugh!!! 1 star because I have to choose one. Beware patrons, acts of nature (which are growing in severity in this area) are sure to mean this lodge will earn your money, pigeon hole you into a no refund policy, and then ensure they always stay fund positive when you have to cancel for natural disasters. OMG! Only had we known sooner we would have stayed here all week. Incredible accommodations, incredible service, a 5 min drive from west glacier. Private patio, breakfast. A hidden gem. At the risk of telling all, this is best bargain in glacier. It may be worth flying out again from the east coast just to visit! True story! Not to mention in room refrigerator for your beverage ! Do not book here. I booked a room for my family here 6 months in advance for the busy summer season. The reservation was paid and confirmed multiple times. I was notified by them by email one week prior to my arrival that they would no longer honor my reservation because they had overbooked. I received no help finding any accommodations for my family. This was my husband and I first vacation since being married over 3 years, we decided to go to Montana and see the parks from Ohio! To start off our trip was a disaster from the airport to the rental to the first place we stayed... We booked what we thought was a nice hotel to relax and have privacy turns out there was none of that and right off the main freeway loud!!!! Because of us going in August it was still prime tourist season meaning last minute bookings for a nice place to stay was impossible until we found the great bear inn!!!! This was the 15th place we looked at that day trying to find something nice and not a million dollars so i stayed in the car, i was devastated. My husband went in and explained how everything was going and the owners were sooooo thoughtful and nice and let us know they had a cancelation and had the nights we needed to stay! The breakfast was AMAZING, rooms and cabins were amazing, everything was clean and beautiful! We went hiking the one night and they supplied the bug spray and bear spray which was awesome! Everything was PERFECT and we plan on coming back and staying a few days there again in May or June 2021! Once again this place and their owners are amazing and you will not be disappointed, it went above and beyond expectations and we recommend everyone we know who wants to go to Montana to stay here! read more
