Had a great stay at the Glacier Highland! My room was very comfortable with a nice cozy bed. This was great for relaxing after a day of exploring the gorgeous surrounding scenery. Glacier National Park is a short walk away, though I'd still recommend renting a car as there's so much more to see. The owners are some of the world's nicest people, and were happy to share all the best places to visit in the area. 10/10 Outstanding! read more

You will hear trains ALL night long. It's not quiet. Thankful for silicone earplugs. We slept with windows open. Not sure there was an actual air conditioner?? Realistically, I paid a lot of money to stay in a room. There are really no perks. You have to walk to the restaurant for coffee, food etc but it's not included. It's in a beautiful setting and it's close to the west entrance of the park. There are a couple of restaurants (and bars) nearby. I'd suggest Glacier International Hotel. It's only like 35 minutes from west entrance of the park. It's a better value as it includes breakfast. read more

Not sure if the steam table was keeping food at temp. All of our dishes were lukewarm at best. Thai chicken Buddha bowl. Chicken pot pie. Buffalo meatloaf. Being in the Glacier Park area during the "shoulder season," we've been frustrated by how many businesses are closed. So glad to find this treasure of a restaurant. Pleasant people and GREAT food. I highly recommend the Huckleberry pancakes. They were loaded with berries and had a crispness to the outside of the cake, which says "perfection" to this weary traveler. Better and half the price of the Downtowner Inn in Whitefish! Never will stay there again! I wish I would've stayed here 16 miles away! We ate breakfast here twice during our stay in West Glacier, and they set the bar pretty high. My companion and I split the veggie scramble and huckleberry French toast, and both were delicious. Veggies were well-cooked, hash browns were crispy, but the French toast... OMG.. perfection. The next visit, we tried the huckleberry pancake, which was also good, but tasted a bit of premade pancake mix. It was also $5! Yikes. They should really offer sides of French toast. That would be worth the $5. The huckleberry pie and razzleberry pie were only ok (razzle was better), but the crust was poor (over-hard, bland, thick). But would come back for breakfast any time! (Just would be sure to make sure I've got some cash in the bank!) read more

A regular motel room which I found lacked a few basic amenities. Stay here because it's the closest accommodations to the National Park. No coffee maker. Fridge only, no microwave. Heat works great. Clean. Nice staff checked us in. We liked their sister property, Glacier Vista Motel, down the street which was still closed in early June. We stayed there on our first visit to GNP. read more

So I have eaten at Glacier Highland all week during my stay in West Glacier. I think they are fantastic for multiple reasons. First, I have not found any better food or service in the area. The pies are to 'die for'. I am trying to keep the weight off with the hiking, but the pies are currently winning! I just can't say enough good things about the staff. Since places have opened up, it is difficult to get any service (as many places have had to close down, or limit their hours) but every day I have been there, whether it has been for breakfast of dinner, the servers there are phenomenal. I have observed them in action, not only in the great service I have received, but the service that they have given to others. This place is busy, an it is difficult to manage many people with a smile on your face the whole time, but they do it, each and every time. I highly recommend this place. I hope you will support this great restaurant, and don't forget to "TIP" your servers, especially those who work so hard for so little, WELL! read more

I did love the food and service but in terms of price it was a bit steep (for what I expected). So be prepared to pay for upscale casual dining. I absolutely loved the huckleberry pie! We stayed at the attached motel, which was very basic, but clean. Some noise issues and unpredictable shower temps, but a great location for the park. The restaurant is a basic diner style, but had wonderful waitstaff and delicious breakfasts (we ate there 3 of our 4 mornings). The hash browns in particular were good. I was very tempted by other people's pancakes, which looked delicious, but I try not to eat so heavy as that before hiking, as we were doing. We did have some of their huckleberry pie - I suggest the plain huckleberry as opposed to the huckleberry and cream, because the huckleberry is delicious, and you'll want as much as you can get of it! I wanted to try more of their pies, but I also wanted to be able to walk instead of roll out of there. The restaurant is definitely the gem here. read more

Before booking, I noticed a lot of complaints about noise from the train station that's directly across the street. The motel rooms are organized into three areas so if you want to book here, the rooms furthest from the train noise are #1-21. The rooms closest to the train station that I'm sure have a fair amount of noise (unless you're from NY like me and can deal) are #32-37. 22-31 are somewhere in the middle. Reception was courteous and the staff in the associated restaurant are really great. I'd definitely stay here again but only if I could manage a room in the area I mentioned. Hmm. I kind of feel bad giving this lowish rating because the grandma who checked us in was so sweet, and so excited to tell us all about their diner that was featured in Sunset magazine. (They did have tasty huckleberry pie...) BUT...any motel that can make my husband complain as much as he complained automatically loses a few stars. Complaint #1--there is a train depot right. accross. the. street. As in a two-lane highway street. As in, I could toss a rock from my room's window and hit a train. And these are long, loud, very very frequent trains. Oh, and walls were paper thin. Glacier's such an awesome place, you don't want to waste your time being sleep deprived. Complaint #2--Hot rooms with no AC. I guess they figured when you're that far north you're not going to need it. But...we needed it. Complaint #3--Sweet grandma was spelled by her stoner grandson...who when I asked him to break my $10 bill offered me 2 $20s. Ummm, thanks Cheech. If you can swing it, stay inside the park at the Village Inn or Lake McDonald Lodge. You'll thank me. read more

First off, we were booked into this place by a rip-off company called National Park Reservations. They also got a one-star review for their nightmarish business practices. We arrived late and found a super hot room with filthy, broken window blinds, no a/c, no refrigerator, and no ice. You have to get a bag of ice from the gas station next door, but alas, the machine was locked (because it contained very valuable ice?!). The floor was very dirty and hadn't been vacuumed for a long time I would guess. Found two spiders the first night. Their solution to improving an old mattress is to put a foam egg crate on it. Bad back anyone? Not fun to hike with a sore back!! We asked for our money back the next day, but the kid at the desk forgot our room number, so when we got back that night, nothing had been done and no one had cleaned our room. Finally, on the last night, they moved us to a newer room up the hill which was nicer, but the carpet was still filthy, and the train was absolutely just as loud. Oh, and one night a drunk woman walked right into our room while I was dressing and she was looking for Gary. Avoid this place like the plague!!! Needless to say, we didn't try the restaurant. read more

The main issue with this place is cleanliness (or lack thereof). Although freshly "cleaned", our table had a layer of black gummy filth built up, and the eating utensils provided were spotted so heavily you could scrape "gunk" off with your fingernail. I did notice that most of the other table tops looked better than ours, but every knife/spoon/fork I saw looked the same. There was also someones hair laminated inside our menu. With issues like these in the "front", it makes me wonder how bad things are in the "back" where they prepare our food. We reluctantly decided to stay and eat. "Acceptable" describes our meals well. We will not return, and would recommend to find another establishment for your meal. read more

Had dinner there last night. I wouldn't have chosen this place as it is attached to a gas station. It was dirty and our waiter must have been smokin' something illegal - he didn't have a clue what was going on and didn't seem to care. Food was bad....my burger was dry (the waiter didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked but I doubt it would have mattered). This is a local joint right outside the West Glacier entrance of the park. It is a building divided in two - one side is a large gift shop with knick-knacks, beer, camp snacks, etc. and the other is a diner-style cafe. Menu was typical American/diner-type food - burgers, chicken sandwiches, soups, salads (I went for lunch). Food quality was average, but I don't think you can go in with super-high expectations. Still, it felt good to support the local businesses. Prices were very reasonable. This restaurant is known for its huckleberry pie, so I had to get a slice. It has been featured in Sunset magazine. It was really good and tasted freshly made. For an extra dollar (totaling about $7!), it came with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. Huckleberries are only found regionally, so most places charge a little more for items made with these berries. I assume their other pies were cheaper. There are clearly a lot of locals who come to this place and were very friendly and welcoming to tourists. Waitress was also friendly and attentive. If you are in the park in late September (when many restaurants have closed) or you get tired of the hotel food, this is a decent place to try "slightly" off the beaten path. Also, of note, right across form the Amtrak station if you take the train to Glacier. read more

The rating is an average.... would give the restaurant 4 stars and the motel 2 stars. The setting is gorgeous... wooded hillside overlooking the train depot (2-3 dozen freight trains per day -- the depot is only for the Amtrak that stops 2x/day). However, the room was very sparsely furnished (one electric outlet, TINY bathroom) and had paper-thin walls that allowed us to hear the room next door have a perfectly normal-volume conversation. Dish TV helped muffle the neighbors, and the office staff was nice enough. Restaurant had great pizza, and a good selection of local (Montana) beers. Service was good-natured, which you don't always get out in the wilderness at the gateway to a National Park. read more

Where do I begin? I am a well-seasoned traveler and have NEVER experienced such a horrible hotel. I stayed for 7 nights (on business) and attempted to contact the manager of this hotel during my stay, and he NEVER reached out to contact me to acknowledge my 2-page handwritten note and did not address my concerns. He basically ignored me and never contacted me. INEXCUSABLE and extremely unprofessional. For starters, when I checked into my room, it was filthy. Dirty carpet (never vacuumed or cleaned), hair on the sink in the bathroom, very lumpy pillows, no Kleenex or shampoo, extremely dim lighting (could not even see my face to shave in the bathroom), no A.C. or coffee, and a musty FOUL odor that was nauseating. And my room was across the street from the railroad station, so I was awakened by trains every hour during the night. All of this for a whopping $95.00!! MAJOR RIP-OFF!!! In addition, there was no wi-fi and no cell service for my entire stay. The plugs in my room were so ancient that I could not even plug my computer into the wall. When I called the office to ask for a 3-prong adapter, a very rude woman in the office replied, "Get your own 3-prong adapter. We don't have one and do not supply them for our guests." She then actaully HUNG UP IN MY FACE.!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!! I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau to investigate this place, as well as any hotel/motel associations they are affiliated with. I travel on average 100 days per year, in the US and abroad, and have NEVER stayed in a worse place in all my 20 years of traveling. DO NOT EVER STAY IN THIS RAT TRAP!!!!!!!!!! read more

My auntie from Blackfeet always used to stop here with her mom and dad when they were dropping her off at the airport ... it looks kinda like the typical Glacier tourist trap, but the food is EXCELLENT. The fries are huge and look so delicious (I don't know how they taste because I had a salad, but I looked at them longingly as they went out to table after table), and the burgers are delicious (my aunt had one). I ordered a cobb salad expecting mediocrity. It was delicious!! I can't tell you how surprised I was to find a great salad in the middle of Montana!! If you're in Glacier for any reason, you should stop at the Highland ... delicious food AND amazing huckleberry ice cream! Plus, they have homemade huckleberry pie that looks super delicious, too. The waitstaff is super friendly, and the dining area is comfortable and has a chill atmosphere. I'm planning to stop again the next time I'm in Glacier (hopefully next summer)! read more

This is a review of both the motel and the restaurant. In a nutshell: the motel is very basic, no frills, and pricey. It was fine for us, as there were no other options near the west entrance of the park for the nights we needed. There just aren't a lot of lodging options in the Glacier area, so as long as you adjust your expectations, it's an adequate place to stay. The train noise from the station across the street is part of the local atmosphere-- bring ear plugs if you think it will bother you. We didn't mind it. The restaurant is really good -- friendly & cheerful service, good beer selection, hearty & tasty food. We ate there two nights in a row and had breakfast on our departure day-- all good. The breakfast croissant was an excellent start to a long day of hiking. read more

Dinner was a pizza and it was good - nice thin crispy crust with plenty of cheese and toppings. The real reason we ate here though was for the huckleberry pie, which is always fantastic. I was disappointed to see that they have raised their prices and limited the menu choices quite a bit since I was last here maybe 3 years ago. The service varies from year to year, depending on the seasonal employees, and this year's waiters seemed to be less than stellar. Our waiter didn't notice our pizza just sitting (cooling) on the countertop for 10 minutes, warmed up pie that was specifically ordered cold and took more than 15 minutes to get our ticket to us. We decided to go to Glacier Highland because the wait at the Belton was too long. First, let me say that we should have waited. I ordered the chicken pot pie, my husband ordered the meatloaf. I have no other way to describe our dinners as nothing more than cafeteria food. Tasteless! I literally took three bites and decided not to finish it. Came by here twice to eat in the restaurant/pick up food. First time was to pick up pie to take back to our cabin. Somehow I ended up with 4 pieces of pie! They all sounded good. The huckleberry was the best. The combo ones just okay. We came back for breakfast one morning. It's pricey. You don't have a lot of competition in October, but the menu had lots of offerings. The huckleberry french toast was amazing. The Breakfast croissant was amazing. Let's just say we didn't leave anything on our plates. Highly recommend breakfast even with the prices. We came here thinking it would be an overpriced tourist trap, but were pleasantly surprised by an affordable delicious meal! We got the huckleberry hound buger and bison meatloaf. The burger was cooked perfectly and came with really good fries. I was a big fan of the huckleberry topping on the burger. The meat loaf looked plain when it came out but once we took a bite we were in love! Really flavored well and the sides of mashed potatoes and green beans complemented it well. Perfect Place to experience what Montana has to offer! Stayed at the Glacier for a week while visiting Montana's mountain trails. I was so surprised to include the Highland amongst my trip highlights, the room I stayed in was very clean and cozy all while keeping a very natural forest vibe. The owners where surprisingly helpful and went above and beyond to help a lost tourist like myself find the best trail spots and where to get the best local coffee. The location is another major plus for the Highland as it's situated about 5mins out from one of the park entrances and is only a 15-20min drive outside of the big towns like Kalispell and Whitefish. read more

Maybe our expectations were low after reading all the negative reviews, but we actually found this place to be really great! We stayed 3 nights this August in one of their renovated rooms. Beds and pillows were comfortable, everything was clean and all staff were really friendly! After eating in almost every restaurant in the park, the adjoining restaurant to the motel turned out to be our favorite and great service. We used our room like one would use their tent while camping and spent most of the time in the park. There's not a lot to do otherwise as the satellite TV is not the greatest. This is a place you can tell where the locals go but if your a tourist its a great place too! As its just a walk across the street from the train station so if you are getting there by train its very comforting to see your place and not having to travel very far. Another thing is that its just right next to Glacier National park.(Which is beautiful) I went there for breakfast and I got a pancake with huckleberries in it and it was amazing! The staff were very nice and the cook was amazing! Though the trains where sometimes loud it was easy to go to sleep and stay that way even if trains go by. If you have the chance to go to Glacier Park go there and enjoy their food and hotel rooms! read more
