I loved the food here, especially the elk pasta--oh my goodness, it was the best! The huckleberry cheesecake was absolutely phenomenal as well. We were there to celebrate my birthday, and although the staff knew it was my birthday, there wasn't any acknowledgment, which I thought was a little odd. That said, it's such a cute place with a great atmosphere, and the train station across the street adds to the charm. We appreciated the history, architecture, and overall atmosphere of the hotel. However, we were disappointed to pay such a premium for a very small room with an inferior view. I would not recommend booking the Honeymoon Suite. When we made our reservation, it was the only room available, so we took it. Having now seen the hotel in person, the price is very difficult to justify. The room itself is tiny, which we expected in a historic building and didn't mind. The issue is that it costs significantly more because it's described as having the best view. In reality, it's tucked around the side of the building. You can see the mountains, but the less expensive front-facing rooms actually have a much better view. The listing also advertises a private balcony. Technically there is a balcony, but it is shared with the neighboring room, and the other guests clearly weren't happy to have to share the space. Their dirty laundry was unlovely, hung to dry alongside the slim view. Also, do not dine here. If you're considering staying here, I'd recommend booking one of the standard front-facing rooms instead. Based on our experience, I would not recommend paying extra for the Honeymoon Suite. read more

The Belton Chalet is beautiful and a historic hotel. We stayed in the back part of the hotel. The rooms are older so it has a rustic feel to it with some modern touches. And right before bed I happen to glance at an article posted on the wall near our room about a friendly ghost. Let's just say I didn't sleep a wink!!! Sitting out the bar you are looking out the window at the patio/deck diners and a great view of the historic train depot. Food was excellent. If you are staying anywhere near West Glacier, highly recommend eating here at least once, even if you are not staying at Belton Chalet. We went 2 nights in a row, and wish we had found it sooner. We visited Belton Chalet twice, it is a great restaurant. Our servers were excellent. The first night Kevin waited on us and he kept our drinks filled and brought out the delicious food. We didn't want to change anything up, other than going bigger. Lisa was our waitress the second night and we ordered the Belton salad entree, the pappardelle pasta with elk sausage (not pictured, but absolutely delicious) and drinks. My friend enjoyed the huckleberry lemon drop martini in the pictures. We both loved the huckleberry cheesecake; I highly recommend ordering it. Great service, ambiance and food. We sat on the patio and the weather was ideal. Our waiters positioned the umbrella to keep the sun out of our eyes and to enjoy the shade. The manager was kind enough to find us something and sat us outside overlooking the beautiful mountains. We had a fantastic meal. We got the red curry (totally had the flavors of Thai curry, but not too spicy), thick cut bone in pork chop, and the meatloaf. The pork chop was tender and delicious. Loved our second visit to the Belton Chalet. A local we met at the Lodge invited us to dinner and when I said we had plans at the Belton, he said, "Oh, yes. Go there!" That's a pretty good recommendation, considering the group we were talking with. The Good - The Curry was great. When I asked about the spice level, the (not local) server said it was "Montana spicy", aka pretty tame. It was, but a bit of heat lingered on the tongue. Very nice. I can't speak for the meatloaf - not sure why anyone would order that in a restaurant. You'll have to ask my wife :) The Meh - Busy night, so we opted to sit on the bar side, but the bartender was telling his life story at max volume, so we moved into the dining area. If you love historic landmarks and feeling like you've stepped back in history, then this is the hotel for you. The Belton chalet offers quaint and cozy bedrooms with modern convenience and immediate access to the national park. I also enjoyed coffee in the lobby every morning while chatting with fellow guests over complementary pastries. As a proud Texan, I take my steak seriously. Like, religiously. I've judged more ribeyes than a county fair cattle panel. So when I say that the ribeye at Belton Chalet in Glacier National Park is the best I've ever had... that's not just a compliment. That's a spiritual awakening. I don't know what they're feeding the cows up there. Glacier water? Mountain herbs? Hopes and dreams? That steak came out so juicy, so perfectly seared, I almost proposed to it. Medium rare? Nailed it. Crust? Flawless. Flavor? Like being bear-hugged by a smoky forest god. Our waitress, Trinity caught me whispering sweet nothings to the bone. No shame. I'd do it again. Also, the views were alright I guess. If you're into majestic mountain vistas, dramatic sunsets, and pristine alpine air. But let's be real. I came for nature, and nature fed me a steak that utterly destroyed my Lone Star standards. 10/10. Would fight a grizzly for another bite. read more

BC is a must-stop for us every time we visit Glacier. They are just always so spot-on with both the food and the service, you know you're going to have a great meal. My favorite thing on the menu is the Blistered Shishitos. Our server this past time said "And I don't mean this to insult your intelligence but these are peppers and not mushrooms." I kinda laughed because it was clear from her disclaimer that more than one customer had misunderstood what they were ordering. I could eat 3 plates of these as a main and leave happy. I'm not a mussels guy but everyone I've been with who's ever gotten them has loved them. Caesar salad comes with anchoives that can be left off, but there's still anchovies in the dressing. I realize this is traditional so I just avoid ordering it because anchovies are the devil's goldfish IMO. My wife always gets the bison meatloaf. It's not always super juicy because I think they finish it with a quick pan sear but we actually like the crustiness on the outside. The grilled broccolini and potato puree are always perfecto (chef's kiss muah). One of our guests got the meatloaf as well, and the other got the special Shepherd's Pie. The pie was frickin delicious and gone before I could ask for a second bite. Our server set down my ribeye but then asked me to cut it at the middle to make sure it was medium rare. We both shared suspicion as it looked pretty crispy on the outside. It was a bit past medium, so she whisked it away and had a perfectly MR replacement in under 5 minutes. I've never had a server put the onus on the restaurant and save me the awkwardness of having to send it back, so that was FRANKLY BADASS. Can't wait to come back. read more

We wanted to treat ourselves after our 15 mile hike and this was perfect! We ate outside and it was beautiful as the sun set. I had the chicken skewers which were great and the sauce was amazing. My friend had the gnocchi and she paid extra for meat, however the meat was $9 so she expected chunks of meat but it was more like pieces. Which was disappointing. We did have a long wait for our drinks and then once we got our food we didn't see our server again. We did not know what we were walking into here. I would start with recommending a reservation. We were able to be seated because we got there just a little bit ahead of the dinner rush. Where to begin? This is such a beautiful location. It is charming, and could be such a romantic date night location. We did not realize this was an upscale restaurant, we were casually dressed in hiking clothes. Some people were also casually dressed, but there were people coming in after us dressed up. The restaurant staff is extremely organized and there seems to be a casual seating area, a bar seating area, some outdoor seating and an indoor room that looks a little more classy for those people who are dressed up. So don't hesitate to visit here if you were just in hiking clothes and that is all you brought. The waiter was so attentive. He also answered all of our questions and made some great recommendations. The steak is a little bit pricey, but I would put it up against a steak that I would consider one of the best in Fort Worth Texas. Who rubs a steak with coffee?! They do and it is like nothing you will ever experience anywhere else. The meat was so tender, and had Smokey notes because of the coffee rub. For dessert, we all chose to get something different and share. The chocolate mousse was rich and thick and you just feel the need to close your eyes and savor the moment. We made a reservation months in advance for our anniversary and was really looking forward to a nice meal out while we vacationed in Glacier National Park. They seated us right next to the bar window, which is one of the worse tables in the restaurant. All the other tables for two were still open and they initially refused to seat us in a less traffic table. This was finally resolved, otherwise we would have left. This review is for Belton Chalet Restaurant. We are staying at Belton Chalet and decided to eat at the restaurant adjacent to the chalet. The vibe is beautiful both in the restaurant and the bar. We had a reservation (recommended) and were seated immediately. Mikolaj our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. I had the chicken skewers which were delicious. All in all, a great experience. So, now that I have checked out of the chalet, here is a review for that experience. I wanted to stay in one of the Great Northern Railway lodges. Based on the timing of my arrival at glacier National Park, most of them were closed for the season. Thankfully, This place was still open. Keeping that in mind, this is a historical lodge that was built a long time ago, I think it's important to keep the expectations in line with when the facility was built. The rooms are small, ours had a queen bed in a room that really was ideally suited for one twin bed. The floors creek, and there are some personality issues with the plumbing. That said, it was a great historical experience. The staff are extremely friendly. Overall, a four-star experience as I see it. I would stay here again. read more

I had a wonderful dinner experience at the Belton Chalet a couple weeks back. I was dining solo but made a reservation a week prior just in case. I requested the bar. I showed up a little before my reservation and was able to secure a bar seat. I was lucky to have some awesome neighbors at the bar who offered great conversation along with the amazing bartender, Laura. I started off with the BlatHead salad. I really enjoyed it. For my entrée I ordered the Montana Meatballs. Holy cow were they good! I enjoyed them so much and would highly recommend them to everyone! The meatballs were served over mashed potatoes and came with pickles and a huckleberry jam. I know, sounds like a crazy mix. It worked! For dessert I had the huckleberry beignets. I attempted to share them with my neighbors because the portion was huge! I had no takers and ended up eating the whole plate myself. They were delicious! I had a couple draft beers as well which I enjoyed. The whole experience was great and I would definitely return when visiting Montana in the future. Great food, great service. We had to wait for our table after making a reservation several hours in advance, but the manager offered to buy our entire party drinks while we waited. Our server was bright and friendly, and all six of us were happy with our food. The prices were what you would expect for a 4 star establishment. We spent one night in a cottage, which was small but comfortable, and we had wifi. Ps. I don't know what some of these other reviewers were expecting when they booked a famously haunted hotel built in the early 1900's by a railroad company. There is a total disconnect here between the Yelp (4-star), Google (5-star) rating, the cost, and my personal experience at Belton Chalet. The more dramatic disconnect is between the pricing and the experience. I'll explain. When I think of a 4-5 star $1,000 hotel stay, I think of such things as reliable internet service, mobile phone connectivity, window coverings for privacy, on-site dining, housekeeping service, a bellman to assist guests with bags up the stairs, a full -service restaurant that serves 3 meals a day, a bar, a closet in the room to store luggage and clothing, TV, a balcony with a spacious room and a bathroom large enough for a sink (the bathroom was too small for a sink so the sink took up valuable space in the room, along with the tub). Our welcome amenity did include two packets of foam earplugs on our pillows to block the noise of the Amtrak trains running periodically throughout the day and night right out front. The rest of this review is intended to provide the disclosures that should have been made by the hotel in advance of our stay. Upon our check-in at 10p, we were advised our room was at the top of the stairs. We were informed there is no housekeeping service, but we can request fresh towels every day. We were also informed the on-site restaurant does not serve breakfast but we can drive or walk to a nearby restaurant that does. There is ZERO mobile phone connectivity and no internet service (for the first 24 hours) so beware that you may be completely off the grid completely or for long stretches (in our case, 30 hours) before internet is restored. We are caregivers for our parents and must remain accessible 24/7 in case of emergency, so being off the grid is not an option for us. Staff conceded they are well aware of the communication challenges and have been working on improving them for a long time. This should have been disclosed in advance, given that b there is zero mobile phone signal in or nearby the hotel. On arriving to our "Honeymoon Suite" we discovered a threadbare room not large enough for a bathroom - like a small room one might find in the 1800's. Indeed, that's the theme here. The Belton Chalet maintains the same historic look and feel as a late-1800's whistle stop on a logging railroad route - located directly across the street from the historic train station. They nailed it, too, right down to the earplugs and lack of communication. Remaining true to its "historical" theme, the floorboards are original--which is good, because when you walk in them, it makes the passing Amtrak train harder to hear--but no worries, since all you have is opaque ill-fitting sheet of fabric as a window covering, the passengers will enjoy peering into your suite as the train click-clacks its way up and down the tracks. The earplugs on the pillows is a classic touch. The walls and doors are so thin, we hear our neighbors snoring and every door that opens and everyone who walks by our "suite". A tiny prefab fiberglass shower is crammed into a closet-sized WC with the toilet--not enough space for a sink or tub--so those are actually next to our bed! Yup, just like in the old west! No space for toiletries. The clothes stay in our suitcases, which take up the rest of the walking space around the strangely (diagonally) placed bed, consuming even more of the precious space. Our room has no balcony or view, but if we step out into the hallway, we have access to a public balcony with the view completely obscured by the trees. Not the honeymoon sweet we envisioned. Other rooms have nice views and balconies. Breakfast is sounding pretty good about now. I think I'll walk over to the restaurant down the road for some grub. read more

To start, the quality of my steak was unbelievable. I loved and enjoyed every bite of my meal. We made reservations a couple weeks before our stay at the Belton Chalet. When we arrived, it wasn't extremely busy, but there are times when I'm sure there is a wait for a table. First, I enjoyed the huckleberry mule. Absolutely loved it, the perfect blend of sweet and sharp. We also ordered the tomato and burrata, which was phenomenal. Lastly, I ordered the steak medium rare and my husband ordered the chicken skewers. We watched loved our meal so much and ate every bite. The steak was so tender, it seemed like the meat was massaged before cooking. The sauces on the plate enhanced the flavor so much. I can't wait to return to this location. We also made a reservation for my parents because we wanted them to have a nice meal as well. They loved every bit of the meal. I also have to mention our server was AMAZING!! For $350 a night there are a lot of expectations. You might be surprised that none of them exist. I should have read the reviews before I booked this room so that's on me. Please do your homework. But I think this one picture says it all. Each room is issued ear plugs and a sound machine!! What does that tell you?? And the fact they don't disclose you may or may not have cell service is just wrong. The restaurant is noisy and brightly lit at night. I wasn't comfortable in there at all. And the best part? When we checked in, there was NO parking. The desk clerk suggested parking across the street on a busy highway!!! read more

The atmosphere is the perfect blend of old and new in a comfortable, non-pretentious atmosphere. Patrick, our server, was fabulous. How many times have you ordered a smoked trout dip and ran out of pita chips? Then had to ask for more and even pay an upcharge? Patrick kept watch on our chip quantity to dip ratio and proactivy brought us more before we ran out. Loved him already. The dip was amazing, the chicken delicious, and the huckleberry cheesecake beignets - OMG. One more note- their old fashioned cocktail which combines rye whiskey with the unexpected ingredients of maple syrup and chocolate bitters was intoxicating. All were excellent, but the wingless platter was like nothing we had ever tasted an unbelievably delicious (spread the top of the cracker with hummus, sprinkle some dukkah, and then drizzle with balsamic and olive oil - to die for!! and very ample portions) Every dinner entree was fabulous, but everyone agreed that the filet is second to none - in line with the best steakhouses in the country. With an overall rating of 4 stars, as well as the menu prices, I expected a much better experience. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the service provided by this restaurant. Our server, Matthew was not only neglectful, but also extremely rude. First, he was very rude upon greeting us. He took our order, then did not check on us for the hour it took for our food to come out. We were very understanding that the restaurant was busy and that the food was taking a little longer than preferred. It was not as frustrating to wait for our food, but rather that he did not check on us once. We were left without water and without drink refills for the entire hour. I would understand if he was very busy, but I instead saw him on his phone multiple times during this hour. We ended up having to get his attention to ask for more water. He proceeded to slam the water pitcher on the table. We felt very uncomfortable for the rest of the meal as he was very short and snappy with us. The Belton Chalet is a nice building, and would be a rather nice place to stay except it is about 110feet off a main highway and is thus very NOISY and it ruins it. Its just a sad fact, the location ruins the whole experience. Have fun listening to trucks and cars making loud noises - exhaust braking etc. Its horrible. read more

This place feels like it's out of that movie. The rooms are small but if they put some time into redecorating, it wouldn't be as bad. It feels like the rooms haven't been updated since 1940 and have a dorm vibe. The bathroom is small, the mattress and pillows are stiff, small, and uncomfortable, and there are no amenities in the room. The balcony would be great if it wasn't facing a railroad that has active trains most of the evening. There also isn't AC, so it gets quite stuffy and warm. Customer service is non-existent and the staff does the least possible: no talk at check in about the area or what to expect in the hotel. Additionally, there's supposed to be coffee at 7 am but the front desk was not on top of things and started getting things ready at 7 am. When we called to make dinner reservations at the hotel, they said it was full and made no effort to help us out. What kind of place doesn't hold spots for their guests? Anyway, we went by the restaurant anyway and they had spots. The only pluses were that it's close to the park entrance and the WiFi worked better than expected. Restaurant Review After being on a road trip for 7 days and eating more fried, all-American food than my stomach would like me to admit, I was hankering for something fresh and healthy. This place did not disappoint! Healthy servings, fresh ingredients, and incredibly flavorful food. I got the market salad and the fish--both plates were cleaned up quickly.
