Excellent cocktails, though it's a teeny tiny place. Reservations recommended, though I came early on a weeknight and snagged an outdoor spot for two (though the ledge for cocktails was about six inches deep which is pretty narrow for food). Excellent, balanced cocktails. I started with the Jannisary Corps with Lebanese gin, pistachio, lemon, and "silky magic." I couldn't really taste the pistachio but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I also enjoyed the Jun Blossom, the Middle Eastern martini. The za'atar pita chips and muhammara were excellent. All in all, it's a fabulous place for drinks and snacks. read more

My friends and I stopped by here for a night of revelry, as a friend was visiting from out of town, and we wanted to treat them with something fun and quintessentially D.C. I love how we have so much diversity and culture in our city, and that includes our nightlife! This bar is named after the 'Green Zone' in Baghdad - a reference to how this a safe space to be yourself! Come and chill - and chill we did. The bar's menu includes a long list of creative and modern cocktails with Middle Eastern flavors. There were so many options to choose from - it was hard to pick! I was excited to see many drinks with pistachio, honey, and dates. You can't go wrong! I tried a Middle Eastern spirit that I've never seen before. There are also non-alcoholic picks. My friend ordered the Turkish iced coffee with pistachio, and my partner got a soda made with date syrup! I dock a star for the crowds. Loud, crowded bars aren't my thing. The Infante and East 8 Hold Up were both tasty and delicious! They have an amazing food menu that's perfect to share as well (not on HH, but def try all of it)! Our standouts were the Pita Chips, Hummus bi Tahina, Labneh with Za'tar, Kubbat Heleb, Batata Harra Fries and Arabic Seasoned Wings! They were all seasoned well and perfect to us! We also tried the Carrots with lemon and sea salt, Fried Halloumi, Lebanese Falafel Wrap, and Chicken Shawarma -- which were all very tasty as well! I came by here last night for a couple of drinks and the place was bumping. I was thinking it wouldn't be busy on a Tuesday night but the entire first floor was packed so I went to the second floor and snagged one of the last bar seats. The service was excellent and the drink menu here is awesome. I had two hot beverages, which were both great. Recently tried to visit, called to see if they were open til Midnight and was told that they were. I got there at 11 and found them closing with attitude. Could I get a hummus to go? Closing! The Green Zone is a great place to check out if you're in Adams Morgan-- I've been three times now! The bar itself is relatively small, with a few spots at the outdoor patio, bar seats on the first floor, and a few more tables upstairs. It gets pretty busy here on weekends, so I definitely recommend going earlier or checking it out with a smaller group in order to get a spot. It's also really loud sometimes, depending on the time. Despite that, I keep coming back here for the mint lemonade with gin-- 10/10! It's sweet and refreshing, with lots of mint (blended in!). Their cocktail menu is also really unique, and I recommend trying other drinks too-- we got the Shi Salbeh (Lebanese bee's knees), which had a unique licorice-y flavor with the Arak. The bartenders are also great, although it can be difficult to place an order sometimes, considering how the bar spots are usually taken. This is their version: Ottoman Times (Old-Fashioned, Middle East Style) - Bourbon, Pomegranate, Arabian Bitters I love how they make their bitters in-house. The drink is mixed well and has a perfect balance of sweet and bitter. With a one huge rock and orange rind to top it off, if you're a bourbon cocktail lover, this is the drink for you! It's got a high-price tag at $14, but I'd say it's worth it. The staff is friendly and the food looked great even though I didn't try any. Thank goodness my friend brought me here. I feel terrible writing a review for this place this low - but I had such a terrible experience. To put it in perspective, I loved Green Zone before the pandemic - having lived in MENA I relish in the opportunity to get a lemon mint and love all the food. However, I returned on a Friday and was severely disappointed. The line: While I waited in line for about 25 minutes, my husband who came a couple minutes later had to wait for over an hour. He was a good sport, until he saw people continuously leaving the bar and the bouncer not letting ANY people in. To make matters worse, I was inside and knew that the ENTIRE bar downstairs was completely empty. It just did not make any sense whatsoever. The service: Like I said before, the drinks and food are delicious. But we had to wait in line for 30 minutes (before we could even order) at the upstairs bar. Bartender was horrible. No regard for good service. Threatened to kick out my friend for drinking his drink at the bar. Then upcharged my other friend by $10 for a regular well drink. Forgettable Matt Damon movie? NOPE! This place is out of control good! I'd go so far as to say it's a must if you're visiting DC and find yourself in the Adams Morgan area. The cocktails were absolutely phenomenal. I got a vodka drink (pictured) called Mint Lemonade & More. It was tangy and featured lots of herbs that complimented the flavor really well, without getting too earthy. I then got a second of that same drink. It was so good that I couldn't be persuaded to check out the rest of the menu, despite how fantastic the other drinks sounded. My friend loved his drink too, and took advantage of the ridiculously good prices to get some Johnnie Walker black. Happy hour goes until 8pm, and it's a steal...not that you needed yet another reason to check this place out. What a great spot, I can't wait to go back and try more drinks, as well as the delicious Middle Eastern food menu! read more

My partner got one of the cocktails and really enjoyed it. for food we got the saj mana'ish with zatar and labneh and i LOVE zatar but there was wayyy too much on this sandwich!! we got the labneh and it was incredible, but the pita was actually not very good and seemed chewy and stale. I also got the baklava to go and i love love baklava and recognize the work and ingredients to make it but $8 for 2 1in squares was ridiculous! 20% tip was included and they lacked transparency on where it goes so that always gives me a red flag! The Green Zone is a fish out of water. It's a unique bar serving Iranian bar food and cocktails in a boozy part of town. The bar is set up to be a classier bar than the clients it attracts. The bathrooms are nice and borderline fancy, but it's in Adam Morgan so its DC interns throwing up in the bathroom. It's odd. My main takeaway- don't go late on a weekend night. If you go during the week, you'll encounter a slightly fancy bar with unique cocktails you won't find elsewhere in DC. My apple drink was well balanced and tasty (if you like sweeter drinks). The Green Zone is the sort of bar you go for stiff cocktails on a warm summer day, delighting in the beautiful decor (deep blue and yellow) and the awesome playlist (rock and metal). We went on Saturday afternoon, just a few minutes after it opened, and it was jam packed! So I definitely suggest coming early if you want a seat at the bar or outside. I really dug the Janissary Corps, which was made with Green Hat Gin and pistachio. It tasted sweet and nutty and herbally simultaneously. I mean stiff however, because I had one of these and a beer and fell asleep at like 9 pm. The snacks are excellent! The Arabic wings are coated in a finger licking blend of sumac, garlic and spices. The Lebanese falafel was so fresh, with a healthy mixture of parsley, mint and radish. The Labneh with Garlic was good, but don't order this expecting to taste garlic! The dip tasted like tzaziki with none of the garlic. Because they opened so recently, there were several things that can be improved upon (they ran out of saj bread even when we came early, no napkins or silverware were given, and our waiter who promised to check on hot sauces never came back). But these are little things and I am sure they will be ironed out as The Green Zone gets comfortable with operating the business. Can't wait to return! read more

The drink selection here is vast with interesting combinations and flavors. The fig and wine cobbler is like a white wine based sangria with muddled fresh figs. The food is okay. It's typical bar food, just not great. The fries were chewy, limp, and tasted slightly still raw. The baklava was cold like it just came out of the fridge. You get two small pieces. The wings were decent with a slight lemon flavor, not super sour like the wings at Lebanese Taverna. The hummus is very creamy and had a tahini flavor and not lemon like hummus I've had elsewhere. The accompanying pita bread was thin, chewy, and at room temperature. Falafel had a crunchy texture like crushed corn flakes on the outside. They're drink menu hello my new favorite place! I love this place! It has so many great and fun named drinks with a large array of international liquors Appleton and Wray and Nephew in more than one type of drink?! how did I not know about this place before walking from Cakeroom and seeing a lot of people distanced and eating on the side walk. Of course I was intrigued b/c everyone looked happy and relaxed. A huge plus is I walked down the street and came back and they were sanitizing the table and chair and wiping drying the chair so it wasn't wet. I love the range of music and Covid precautions while still making the overall atmosphere fun. There was sanitizer next to the table. It was very much the chill vibe I needed after doing multiple projects and just needing a chill time to myself. The umbrellas were up b/c it was a rainy day. Clearly no one wanted to stay in after a year inside especially once the rain stopped. Patrons at the tables can be seen in causal clothes some in rain boots like myself. I felt right at home. I ordered fries, 2 drinks and one to go drink b/c why not save for another day. Everything came out fast. I did not feel rushed while there.
