We know this to be factual, because they tried to hide it with the chips. I think my greatest complaint falls against how certain patrons were allowed to act like they were at a rowdy bar, manhandled an off duty employee, went into the kitchen at one point, then the kicker was when the bartender let him use his personal pocket knife to open a bottle of white wine to serve other patrons in the bar. I had the prime rib. Worst prime rib ever! It was cold. The color looked almost like it was starting to rot. Wasn't medium rare. Crab cake was cold. Biscuit was hard. Texture was like jerky. This place seems a little past its prime. Totally dead on a Saturday night, never a great sign. Service was friendly and attentive but food was mediocre at best. Ordered the pork chop and ribs because server mentioned dinners cite it as the best chop they'd ever had. It was dry and bland and covered in oil. The ribs were tough and barely chewable. The onion rings soggy rather than crispy. The blue cheese dressing was good, but the side salad was mostly iceberg lettuce. There was also a musician playing "downstairs." Thank goodness I asked for a different table when the hostess initially tried to seat me nearby. He kept starting and stopping songs. Laughing and joking with the one table down there. We stopped here for lunch on our way to Manitou, Colorado. The steak, veggies and salad were delicious. My husband's gravy was congealed like it wasn't heated throughly. Our problems stemmed from all the flies in the facility. Literally using the linen napkins to beat them away throughout the whole meal. I come to Sterling every few years on business. And, every time I come here, I always eat at this restaurant. Over the years, the quality has been consistent and I've always enjoyed the food. Reading the reviews, I'd encourage you to stick to the four and five star reviews and write off the rest as anomalies. Everyone has a bad day, and that includes cooks, servers and anyone else in this business. I can't remember everything I've had - although I do recall having nachos, a burrito, a couple of sandwiches and a few salads. As I said, I always enjoyed what I had. Recently, I've been losing weight (see my review of Profile by Sanford), so my diet primarily consists of salads, veggies and pretty lean protein. This sounds so stupid, but I was DELIGHTED to see they have a "build your own salad" option on their menu. LOL. So, I did that. It was fantastic. Very, very fresh. Just the right amount of toppings to create a prefect ratio of greens to add-ins. I also ordered the salmon entree. I have to be honest... I was not that confident. Here I am in a small town in the middle of a land-locked state at a non-chain restaurant. Salmon? I asked the waitress and she said, quite sincerely, it was her favorite thing on the menu. Yeah, right. As it turns out, it was quite good. It says on the menu they prepare it "medium", but can cook to order. It was a good portion and I very much enjoyed it. The service was a little slow, but not enough to bother me. Prices are reasonable, although the steaks had better be pretty damn good given the prices on the menu. I guess I'll be the first to honestly review this establishment. This restaurant (?) deserves 0 stars. You got me for $50.00 and neither of us could finish the meal. I ordered the special, Top Serloin with grilled shrimp. The shrimp was not grilled or hot and as the picture describes the flies loved it. My order was returned after the first bite. Overcooked steak and the flies are unbearable. I did receive another steak cooked correctly but very dry. We have lost our appetite due to the flies and service. I wouldn't eat here again. My wife couldn't enjoy her meal because of the flies and $49.46 was a waste of money. I'll post more after I cool down. This restaurant 'price gouges' and is not equivalent in taste or service to McDonald's. I am pissed. I've riden 4964 miles in the past 10 days and this by far was the biggest waste of money and time I've ever experienced. I feel they hope for travelers and excessively over price their menu. I'm disgusted. There is no possible way they could survive in a large city. Impossible. The clerk at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites recommended this to us and upon our return she couldn't look at us. Unbelievable poor meal preparation and quality. I can not recommend this place or believe the positive reviews posted. Travelers, don't be fooled by hunger or those trying to benefit the restaurant by sending you there. Down the street is an Italian restaurant, BBQ/Smoked Ribs, other assorted fast food restaurants. I didn't hear voices familiar to the staff so locals are eating elsewhere. We came across The Grill by accident while staying in Sterling. There were four adults and two tired children who were hungry! We were seated quickly and together. Our wait staff was pleasant and provided colors and color sheets for the children. Stated with appetizers and were impressed! Chicken wings were delicious! The Grill is a very dependable go to for any occasion. My boyfriend's favorite dinner is the chicken fried steak. My personal favorite is stuck between their French dip and their tuna sandwich. Both are incredible! We love the service from every waiter/waitress and are always made to feel welcome! They never shy away from a problem and their attentiveness is on point every time no matter the server. The improvements have completely changed the atmosphere in this change of owners and new renovations. The waterfall is the icing on the cake in my opinion. The pasta was cold and bland, no sausage, dry tasteless chicken, not spicy in the least.
