    Mussels! with chips... mmm...

Places like Grill on the Corner reaffirm why I cannot be a vegetarian... meat = nom. Grill on the Corner is quite a chic establishment filled with trendy Glaswegians and business people. The decor is sleek and spacious. The service is attentive and friendly. The food in divine. I have been to Grill on the Corner on a few occasions, and have never had a bad meal. Steaks were devoured, and the seafood was fresh and delicious. However, medium-rare steaks were cooked more than expected. Some may find the prices to be a bit steep, but being a member has its benefits (discount!). Overall, Grill on the Corner met every expectation I had, and I'll be back for more. It's definitely a good place for date night or for a nice meal with mates.

I have been to GOTC 6 or 7 times and can only remember one occasion when it was below my expectations. That was the first visit and I got steak and there was nothing really bad about it, it was just not as "amazing" as I had been told it would be. Moving on though I gave it another chance and I have not looked back. Key thing to enjoying GOTC in my opinion, this might be controversial, but don't have a steak..... My recommendations are for starters have the Mussels in Cider and Chorizo with extra bread on the side. Main Course - This depends on which day you are there, if it's a Sunday go with the Roast, all 3 of them are good, tasty, big portions and perfect for sharing. If not a Sunday then go with the crispy Salt & Pepper Fajitas - might seem a weird choice since they are not a Mexican restaurant but these are very good. Finally dessert - go with the Warm Chocolate Fudge cake. Indulgent and rich, but brilliant if you still have room. Pour some red wine or Asahi beer (for me both) on top of all this and I would be stunned if you do not have an amazing meal. The key key key thing though - Join the membership club and get 40% of your food! A great, but pricey meal suddenly becomes an amazing reasonably priced meal.

    Bang bang chicken

It takes a lot for me to get really excited about a restaurant, especially in Glasgow where there is such a huge availability of good quality, affordable, innovative eateries. That said, GOTC was a -pleasant- surprise. I rocked up with five other Glasgow bloggers and the service (courtesy of the clearly knowledgeable Callum) was top notch. I had the bang bang chicken to start and PLEASE someone teach me how to make that! I think I was the only one of our group to skip the steak and instead, I went for the tuna. Now, I'm a girl of simple pleasures and the idea of spending £20 on an entree did not make my socks roll up and down. However, a 50% off voucher smoothed my brow and I have to say I'm glad I went for it. The portion was huge to the point where I think I left about a third of it. Absolutely gorgeous. Somehow I managed to rally for a dessert and took Callum's advice to go for the sticky toffee pudding. A lighter but tastier version you have never encountered - it was sublime. Three courses, a cuppa and a cocktail for £35? Like Arnie says - I'll be back.

    Cocktails! :)

We recently had a bloggers' night out to take advantage of Grill on the Corner's 50% off food deal in January, organised by Michelle. We started off in the bar with a few cocktails. I sampled the elderflower gin martini and although strong (as martinis tend to be) it was very drinkable and absolutely delicious! I will definitely be going back for one of those again soon! The cocktails are delicious and pretty reasonable for well made cocktails in the city centre. The ones I sampled were £7 each. After transferring through to our table we all decided what to have for dinner before getting on with important catching up chat. The bread and olives we ordered arrived quickly which was fab as we were all starving after anticipating a lovely big meal all day! I went for the seafood mornay to start which was served in the most gorgeous little shell bowl (I seriously want to find me one of them!) and tasted wonderful. And since Sarah was driving, I had another cheeky cocktail - the Mary Pickford (a favourite of mine). Most of us chose steak for our main course to take advantage of the amazing savings, four of us actually chose the same thing - the special 'Best of British' meat, and we all had the fillet. Michelle went for the rib eye and Vonnie had tuna. I opted for blue cheese sauce and creamy mash to accompany mine (making my own blue cheese mash as a result - sneaky!) My steak was absolutely divine. Cooked to perfection and so tasty. My blue cheese mash worked well too ;) After a bit of a rest, we all opted for dessert too. Well, it was 50% off! I had trouble deciding as I wanted at least three of them but in the end I couldn't resist trying the fantastic sounding combination of apple pie with a cheese crust! What a brilliant idea! It worked so well, there was just a hint of cheesiness in the pastry which went really with the tart apple filling. I don't really like ice-cream so I'd asked for cream instead and received a huge jug full. :) Nothing worse than stingy cream. (Except maybe stingy gravy with a roast dinner!) Unfortunately I was much less impressed with my latte which had a horrible mouthful of ground coffee at the bottom! Yeuch. Luckily we had some water left for me to rinse it down with. Not ideal but it didn't spoil my evening. Anyway, we received excellent service, Callum looked after us very well, and we really enjoyed our surroundings with the pretty chandeliers and twinkly lights (I can't resist fairy lights). We left feeling pretty stuffed but very satisfied. Due to our expensive taste, our food bill came to £35 per person and with my cocktails added on top, I ended up spending almost £50. Although that seems like a lot since we got 50% off food, it's actually not bad for 3 courses, drinks, coffee and cocktails! When you consider that the special fillet was supposed to be £35 alone, we did get good value for money. I do love the food here but it's really only somewhere I go for a treat if there is an offer on as it does add up to be quite pricey if there's no discount. Don't get me wrong, it's really good quality and very reasonable when there is a discount, it's just not the place to go if you're on a budget. Full review with more pictures on my blog :)

    The "gluten free menu" ....
    Nicola H.

I have always heard good things about grill on the corner but it has always been out of my price range so when a friend mentioned they were doing 50 % off food in january i was excited to finally give it a go! I had tweeted them asking about a gluten free menu and they replied stating they did however it took them 4 days to mail me a copy .... and what they mailed me was simply an allergen sheet. Not put off i still went ahead! The interior of the restaurant is simply stunning. Lots of twinkling lights and black and white theme throughout. Our waitress was lovely and attentive however when i asked for the gf menu i was simply brought an allergen sheet again. Starter wise there was only 1 optiom that could be made gluten free which i wasnt keen on so i skipped that. Main i had the corn chicken supreme. This came only with green veg so i chose a side of chips. The main menu is really limited in choice and the steaks were all labelled with containing gluten however i was told that they could be done without. The supreme was nice ... 2 chicken breasts but it wasnt very filling i was glad to have ordered the fries. For dessert i had pischacio ice cream which was devine! Overall it was nice but unless they improve the gluten free menu and have a special like this i wouldnt rush back.

This place is swank-ee! The classy dark interior and crystal (possibly) chandeliers make this place very posh indeed - the sort of place you'll find slightly pudgy businessmen tucking into a steak the size of their plate. The menu is meat-tastic, (surprise surprise!), and it's not just beef steaks available - there's ostrich, wild boar, and Kobe (beer-fed cows, massaged within an inch of their life, for an amazing steak taste. yum!). There are starters etc, but I skipped over them to indulge myself in some good ol' meat/steak times. Personally, I found the steak frites (yay!) to be above average - the chips were thin and crispy (not dripping in fat), and the sauce was excellent. Waaay! It's not the cheapest of places, but you're paying for the service and the quality meat. Best not to scrimp when it comes to steak, right?

What a find! Suggested by the front desk staff at our hotel and it didn't disappoint! This is a great steakhouse! The atmosphere is cool and classy. The bar is beautiful with dark woods. Service was great. Good selection of wines. We shared a deep fried Brie appetizer, which was really nice. But the steaks are why you go to a steakhouse. The filet melted in my mouth!!! So tender, done to perfection.

One of the best steaks in Glasgow hands down. Staff are friendly and accommodating and for a fairly flash place they are extremely child friendly. Join their Members Club only to get up to 40% off!

Tiger prawn starter on the Christmas menu
    Debs M.

Went here for my work's Christmas lunch, and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised! The reviews on here were a tad mixed, although mostly good, but I never really expect much from Christmas menus as the food you get tends to be a bit...meh. That was certainly not the case with GotC - we paid £26 each for the Christmas lunch menu and I really enjoyed every course! For my starter, I went for prawns - and while at the time I felt there could have perhaps been a few more, they were tasty and went really well with the salad they were served with. On reflection, it was probably a decent starter size, as I managed to fit my other two courses in without feeling like I was going to die. (Always a plus.) My main was the real surprise of the evening! While the mains options included salmon, steak and of course turkey, I'd been eating quite a lot of meat that week (including steak and turkey) so went for the veggie option of a mushroom and leek turnover with Béarnaise sauce. It was so delish! The pastry was pretty perfect, everything else was really well cooked and very tasty indeed! I really enjoyed it and was super-pleased with the decision I made. Yuss. Dessert was absolutely to die for - I assume by now y'all are quite aware of my feelings towards dessert, I have pretty high standards and this didn't let me down in the slightest! What could be more amazing than a chocolate and salted caramel torte with ginger nut crumb, I ask you? Not much! The torte was rich without being too much, and it was a decent sized portion as well. After dinner, we were able to grab a booth through in the bar area as we were nowhere near being done yet, and that was really good too! To make this clearer - our lunch was booked for 3.30 and we didn't leave GotC til after 11, as we were having a great time and were quite happy staying there. The drinks were pretty reasonable and the atmosphere was good, despite it actually not being that busy on the 23rd of December. I imagine I'll be back at some point!

Went for lunch with friends. They are regulars here, and say the crispy salt and pepper fajitas are the best. I had the rag top steak and ale suet pudding - it was amazing. One other person had the burger with bacon and kimchee. A mix I had not heard of before but she swore was amazing. They were busy, service was fast and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I'll definitely be back

I had the steak. The steak has a good taste but I ordered hollandaise sauce as my sauce and I wish I would not have poured it on my steak because it wasn't very good. As it was only lunch I restrained myself and opted for a starter of the fish cakes with a side order of chips, which was just as well as the fish cakes were a tad on the small side. This was mildly disappointing at the time, but actually they would have been fine as a starter if you were moving on to something more substantial. I was glad I'd ordered the chips as well though. Herself as usual went for the eponymous bivalve molluscs that are the house speciality. These were quite on the large side, and disappeared before I had a chance to get a picture of the bowl so must have been good! An Americano coffee to finish was of good strength and taste, even if it was only just over half a cup; presumably they were leaving a gap for the milk that I didn't ask for and don't want. Still, I guess if they'd topped it up with water it would be weaker and that would be almost as big a sin. The restaurant is quite large and was pretty empty on this particular lunchtime. They have a mezzanine area upstairs that you can rent for private groups, which would be great if you had enough folk who were seafood lovers.

For mains, it was the halibut and scallops for her; I tried the monkfish, although with some slight trepidation over the banana, green lentil and chickpea sauce. I needn't have worried though, it wasn't a very strong curry and actually worked really well with the monkfish and the haddock. Just enough room to squeeze in a dairy-free sorbet for me - they had a lovely cucumber sorbet that was served with the tuna tartare, so I tried that. Herself can never resist a good cheese board, and this one was good (so I'm told). All in all, a fantastic meal. So good that I completely forgot to take any pictures. BLUF: Best meal I had while in Scotland. This is a cozy…read morespace that you can easily dress up or be casual in. The service is very friendly and attentive. The menu has so many Scottish foods in it, there's no doubt this is a Scottish fare restaurant. I did have to look some of it up because even other Scottish restaurants hadn't had things like cranachan or rumbledethumps on their menus. Ordered were: bread, beef stovies, lamb rump, slow braised beef short rib, cranachan, and chocolate brownie. The beef stovies is beef stew with a potato pancake hat served in a cast iron cauldron. Very cool presentation, and quite a tasty stew inside. I liked the small cut of everything, so it was easy to eat. The lamb was so tender and flavorful, without being overcooked. I substituted rumbledethumps for the polenta so I could try some, it was a lot like mashed potatoes with some extra flavor in it from the cabbage. The black garlic emulsion was a little earthy but went with the lamb so well as a result. My only fault would be the mint drizzle being too sweet for my taste. The short rib was masterful, essentially fall off the bone, and a good herby rub. The desserts were a step down from the mains. The cranachan felt like it had bromelain in it, breaking down my tongue as I was eating it. Outside of that sharpness, a very tasty and solid dessert. The brownie was heavy and fudgy, so if that's your type of brownie then it's here for you. Otherwise it's too much on a stomach already packing the amazing dinner preceding it. All in all, what a place, what a meal, recommended.

Love this place! We had some of the best Scottish fare of our vacation. The haggus with neeeps and…read moretatters, venison stew, seafood stew, and sticky pudding were all excellent as was the service. Of course the whiskey selections were great also.

This is the type of Scottish food I've been waiting for!…read more My sister and I were hunting for haggis when we found this low key hidden gem. Since we were not hungry, we shared the £13 set which came with a starter and an entree. We love to try weird foods so we selected pigeon. It was fantastic. The pigeon reminded me of liver because it was was tender, chewy, and gamy. The only difference was the texture because liver is more grainy. I loved the combination of the slightly sweet cherry sauce and crunchy peanuts. As for the entree, we chose lamb stuffed with haggis. It was extremely succulent and out of this world. I appreciated that none of these dishes came with bread. Don't get me wrong, bread is amazing but I felt so bloated because sandwiches are everywhere. It was refreshing to have an Atkins diet sort of meal. Also the two generous glasses of wine definitely tied things together. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end because the dessert was anticlimactic. We ordered a cheese dish and vanilla ice cream. The cheese dish came with two cheese wedges, grapes, assorted crackers, and jam. I was not blown away. Also, since the ice cream was icy and not creamy, it reminded me of the $1 McDonald cones...which I love but was expecting more. Bottom line: If you are looking for a chill place with great food, I definitely recommend this place!
