After hearing such great reviews of Grill on the corner, I was very excited about going. However it did not live up to expectations. We shared a sharing plate starter which was quite small. This came with chicken skewers, etc ..nothing special. The steaks are not cheap and I asked for a side salad or some veg instead of chips which I was given for over £4 extra. I thought this should have been free as I did not have any chips or potatoes! The service was quite slow..we were served our starters before our drinks! And they forgot to bring a beer which we ordered with the drinks..which took a good while to ask for again before we got a servers attention. I also asked the server to recommend a wine which I felt he did not know much about as he basically just pointed at one and said it was nice. Luckily I signed up to be a member on their website and was able to get 40% off the price with this offer. However it did mean that the only table available with this offer was at 5:45pm - so quite early. With this discount the food was just about worth it but wouldn't pay the full price. Didn't try any cocktails but had a look at the menu and they did look good and not too overpriced. read more

I love this place, been in several times for dinner and every time has been better than the last. The menu offers a great range, the cocktails are amazing and the service is second to none. I've been in for their Sunday roast on a couple of occasions and it's the best meal in town. I've recommended the Grill to many of my friends, all of whom have had a fantastic time, no complaints. Well worth it...a T-bone for £14.00, you don't get many of those to the pound, and if you have a dog they'll gladly wrap up the remnants for your pooch. I didn't have much luck with this place. I had booked a solo dinner there (was travelling for business to Glasgow) and was really looking forward to some quality beef. When I arrived, I wasn't feeling exceptionally hungry so I ordered myself a nice Kobe beef burger. Boy was that a mistake! It arrived, and I took a bite immediately, hoping to relive the joys of a near perfect Kobe beef burger I'd had elsewhere. But it was far from perfect. In fact, it was impossibly salty and just didn't taste like quality kobe beef (I consider myself an expert seeing as I've had kobe been in Kobe. And pretty much eat it whenever I see it on a menu.) Trying not to be overly annoying, I continued to eat the burger until I hit a point where I decided I actually preferred not eating (I was starving that night) than finishing it off. The waiter noticed that I had stopped and checked whether I was just taking a break (yay for good service); I explained the situation and they promptly took it away. The hostess (manager?) came by and apologised, and even offered me a free dessert. Dessert arrived and I'd have to say that it nearly made up for the burger (again, I was starving). However, at the end of the meal, they ended up charging me for my free dessert. I wasn't bothered enough to complain (again, trying not to be overly annoying) so I paid my bill and left. It was a shame, because I really wanted to like the place. But the experience disappointed, and I also ended up with a terrible case of food poisoning. This is one of the busiest restaurants in Glasgow at the moment and I can totally see why. The food is amazing and there is such a great menu. You have the choice of steaks, fish&chips, faijtas, burgers, salads and the famous Kobe steak (£50! Yikes) or Kobe burger (lots cheaper) this is the cattle that get feed beer and massaged before they get the chop which means yes it tastes amazing, if you don't like medium rare then don't go there, but the burger is good. We signed up to the email alerts which I would really suggest you do as we got sent a voucher to use which allowed us 50% off our total food bill which was outstanding. We shared the Chateaubriand which was superb, one of the best meals ever. Also if you sign up to their emails you get a bottle of bubbly if it's your birthday and you book a table for 4. Service is excellent and the staff are all organised. Defo need to book, even through the week. read more

A meaty menu that is both traditional and exciting, the meal I had here was among the best I have eaten in Glasgow. Food is well cooked on the barbeque grill and there are plenty of options to choose from, though if you are not a meat eater you will probably feel like you're missing out. We had the fillet steak and lobster for two, both absolutely delicious. This is a classy and atmospheric restaurant. It's not cheap, but good for special occasions. Staff were attentive and helpful, and there are extensive wine and cocktail lists on offer. Eating here feels like an indulgence, but go on, you're worth it. read more

We came to Grill on the Corner based on a recommendation from a family member and it was disappointing right from the start. We had reservations for 5:30 and arrived at 5:20 - we weren't seated until 5:50. We ordered our meal and everything arrived cool to lukewarm. We were offered dessert and coffee and declined and the manager was gracious enough to remove the food off of our bill. Disappointing meal but our server Callie was great! read more

Been in here a few times for drinks and food as it's just down the road from my flat! Gorgeous interior, it's all been done up recently and looks even better than it did before, very classy, not the kind of place I'd go for an after work pint though, it can be quite formal and some people might say pretentious. The drinks are quite expensive, the cocktails are roughly between £8-£12, but they do use fresh ingredients and whizz it all up in front of you, just sip slowly! The food is amazing, the fish curry is delicious but could do with a few more chunks of fish, my friend had the steak(not the Kobe one though, cannot abide paying £60 for a steak no matter how good it tastes!)it was flame grilled to perfection and melted in the mouth, food and drinks are top quality and the service is too, we got just as much attention as a party of 10 seated next to us. Nicely decorated, busy, and very well placed centrally within the city of Glasgow. Handily accessible from rail and bus stations. Speed of service is an immediate problem. I arrived with friends at 1835 for a 1915 booking. Our order was taken at 2010. Think about that... We also moved ourselves to a different area of seating after mentioning that the glaring sun streaming through the windows was blinding our party of 4. 3 requests to move, no seats offered. We were provided a different area when I'd advised a waiter that were were off to eat elsewhere. Our starters arrived eventually, and were truly delicious, something on which our entire part agreed. Excusing myself to visit the gents restroom, I and another diner observed a member of the kitchen staff in full uniform, using the public urinal and then leave without washing his hands. He did however wipe them on his blue-striped apron, so that must be ok hygiene wise, yes? Off putting as that was, and despite advising another waiter of what I had just witnessed, to which no reply was forthcoming anyway, I awaited the main course. It arrived at 2115, and was greasy and cold, and certainly undercooked. 2 of my 3 friends' main dishes were also served cold, and so we decided just to leave. Noticing our meals hadn't been eaten to completion, the waiting staff had advised the manager without our knowledge, and she raced to our sides to offer an apology. I didn't blame her, I just wanted to leave and never return! She kindly removed my item at least from our total bill, and stated she hoped to see us back in future. That's a shame, because she was pleasant and attentive and obviously cared where some of her kitchen and waiting colleagues don't. Nice food poorly served is how I'd describe this place; it's certainly a let down and not worth the money. Avoid! read more

I visited here with my daughter and partner for lunch. I had heard good things about the restaurant for a while and took advantage of the 50% off food in January to try it out. The staff were lovely and very attentive. We were seated and had our order taken quickly. I ordered the crusted rump of lamb, my partner the t-bone steak and my daughter ordered from the kids menu. I also ordered a pina colada and my daughter a non-alcoholic cocktail. The drinks arrived quickly and my daughter's watermelon fling was lovely, very refreshing. My pina colada, however was not so nice. It was very watery and, though it tasted strongly of alcohol, it was not good. Definitely nowhere near as good as on holiday, or even as I have had in other bars/restaurants in Glasgow (Tiki bar, for example). I assume this is because they are using coconut milk or cream, rather than cream of coconut which is supposed to be used and is very different to coconut milk or cream, which any decent cocktail maker should know in my opinion! I was left wishing I had ordered the watermelon fling like my daughter! When the food arrived, my daughter had ordered the mini blackhouse burger from the kids menu and loved it! My lamb was lovely. Nicely cooked, pink and tasty - but tiny! as was the rest of the portion. The waitress had pushed me to order a side dish also and I understood why when the food arrived! There was a small trail of pea puree under the lamb, a slice of unappealing looking sweet potato, which was certainly not a fondant as described in the menu. I was extremely grateful for the side salad the server had talked me in to, which was a good size and nice, but still just a salad! My partner was far less enthused by his t-bone. He had asked it to be served rare, but it was not. Aside from the expected bone and fat which he had to cut off his steak, there were also many chewy and gristly bits through the steak which he had to keep pulling out his mouth while eating. The steak was more medium which he suggested was an attempt to hide the poor quality of the meat as we would assume that a chef at a restaurant known for it's steak would know how to cook a rare steak. Needless to say, he was not impressed, though he did enjoy the fries served with it. The peppercorn sauce he didn't however. After tasting it, I can understand why! It was very bland and tasted almost powdery, like a packet sauce. I have actually bought far nicer ones from the supermarket and had nicer ones served to me in far less expensive restaurants. Due to the discount, the overall bill was under £40, which was reasonable for what we had. But, had I been expected to pay full price for the food that we had, I would have been far less happy. My daughter didn't get the dessert offered to her that she was supposed to have with her kids meal and the actual surrounding were in need of some repair. We were seated across from a booth in which the seat had been ripped, taped up and then ripped again. That and various other little things we noticed (including the greasy, slippy stairs down to the toilets) was not really a good look for somewhere marketing themselves as a high-end restaurant. After all the good things I had heard, I was extremely disappointed by my visit and my partner has vowed never to return. I don't know if they are serving smaller portions or lesser quality steaks to those booking the half price offer as our experience seems so contradictory to things that I have read and heard about Grill on the Corner, but I have to admit, I am pretty reluctant to return also. We eat out a lot and, had the food been good, would have definitely ate there again, full price or not. But my partner and I both left still hungry and shortly afterwards got a snack and dessert elsewhere. That should not happen when you leave a restaurant - and I am known among my friends and family for having a rather small appetite! I definitely won't be back in a hurry. I come here quite often for lunch with friends who work up in this area of town, one of them is on their mailing list through work and often gets great offers like 50% off, I really must get myself on the list! When you walk in the front bar area feels really nice and airy, and has a nice clean feel to it, The restaurant area is round the corner form the bar and feels pretty grand but yet the menu is pretty reasonably priced and has items for the more discerning palate as well as tried and tested dishes such as burgers and fish and chips. Meat and seafood are the specialities with a large variety of steaks on then menu, I wasn't that adventurous and went for fish and chips the last time we visited which was delicious and tasted really fresh. The staff are really attentive and seem very well trained, every visit we have had has been very relaxed, enjoyable but with great food and service so cant really ask for much more read more

The table was booked for 8pm, our orders were finally taken at close to 9pm. The starters took almost an hour to arrive. The main courses took another 30 mins after the starters. Approx 10 of us ordered steak, and approx half of us got what we ordered, cooked how we'd specified. One of our party had to wait until we'd all finished ours till his came. The sauces for the steaks arrived about 15 mins after the steaks, cold and slightly congealed, mine never arrived at all. I'd say a good 10 mins after that, we were asked if we wanted salt and vinegar for our chips, the waitress even stopped me eating to ask me, when it was clear I had no chips only salad - odd? I left our group at 10.35, the plates still hadn't been cleared and I had not got the energy to see how long it would take for dessert to arrive. My steak when it did arrive was nice, but nothing special, the waiting staff are friendly, but the kitchen staff have real problems, both with timing and the ability to clearly read an order and cook it how it is specified. I won't be back here, you can get a far better meal, that arrives in a timely manner and is cooked correctly for much less money elsewhwere in Glasgow. read more

I can't believe that the previous reviews are of the same restaurant.Six of us were there on Saturday 7/3/09 and had a very poor experience.The soup tasted of nothing and was bulked out with cornflour? Sausages in the sausages and mash were tough tasteless and dry.The burger had no taste.The surf and turf consisted of a small steak and two small prawns.The chips looked like the dregs from the deep fat frier.The seafood pie consisted mainly of a dubious sauce with little taste.Even the bread with the balsamic vinegar was doughy and had no texture or taste.The staff were very good at selling bottles of wine but made no comment whatsoever when they removed half-eaten plates of food.The only good point was that we had booked online and got a 50% discount on the food.Obviously we will not be back. read more

A really fresh menu in trendy, high-energy setting. Best mussels I've had in years but my kobe burger was a little on the cool side for me. I went here for a treat, the menu is reasonably priced for the quality of food, service and the surroundings. The restaurant is beautiful and the tables are well spaced. The staff are very friendly although a little rushed. I only gave 4 stars since the waiter who served our food was in a hurry and failed to warn my boyfriend that the skewers on his plate were scolding hot. He touched them to remove the chicken and badly burned his hand. The manager was over immediately, and apologised and supplied ice and water to subdue the burn while we ate. To be frank, it ruined what would have otherwise been a lovely evening, but I felt the staff did all the could to rectify a mistake anyone could make. I ate beef fajitas, it was delicious but served on a footery array of tiny plates secured on a larger plate. I would definitely go back. Also I'm sure the manager contacted us and offered free drinks on our next visit, so that was nice :) read more
