I loved this little coffee shop so much that we visited twice in three days while staying at our friends' cabin near Manistique. The menu is pretty large, with lots of options for coffee and non-coffee drinkers. The first visit I got a medium iced latte with English toffee syrup. They told me that the medium lattes have two shots of espresso and asked if that was okay - appreciated that check in (and it was definitely okay!). The latte was good, I was hoping for a bit stronger espresso flavor, but it did the trick. Nate got the Yooper latte, which was a s'mores flavored drink that was sweet and delicious. On our next visit, I got an iced coffee with vanilla cold foam, which was so tasty! Nate got a cappuccino that was nicely balanced. The employees we interacted with (younger, students?) were all SUPER polite and friendly. Great customer service! The shop is cute and rustic and they have items for sale like mugs, shirts, stickers, cards, etc. I'll be back! read more

We love our small town coffee shops and we're hopeful when we stepped into The Grind Coffee House. First impressions are important and, unfortunately, this little coffeeshop was less than impressive. It was busy with very little order or space to serve customers well. The 3-person staff were hustling to work the counter and the drive thru but it all looked and felt chaotic on an August Friday around 11:15 am. The casual vibe was overshadowed by a general lack of organization and intention in appearance. For a small space, there was too much clutter. The photos here display the best features: good detail on drinks to order, hardworking staff behind the counter, and a lovely, positive thought. Cleanliness also left something to be desired. Looks like a good deep clean is in order. We ordered two mochas as we have been traveling the UP this past week and stopping in a new local coffeeshop daily in search of the best mocha. We were disappointed by these mochas: warm but not hot, thin and runny, way too sweet. Even the small decaf brewed coffee was meh. Our standards are high and most other small town coffee shops in the UP have exceeded them. The hardworking staff were the best part of this experience and deserve a shout out. The place is decorated well and the staff is very friendly. They are also helpful as we were not sure what we wanted during our visit. The place gives you a come stay here feel and has various different styles of seating to make you feel comfortable. The place is a bit smaller so you will get cozy with others but not too much. The coffee's we got which escape me at this point were really good! I wish I could remember which ones they were. I will bet that most of the coffee you get there will be on the same par. My husband got a cookie dough frappe and I got an iced vanilla latte they were SO GOOD! Very worth the lil wait for a Saturday morning.

Made a quick stop here on our way to St. Ignance. I got the Salted Caramel Maple Latte, even with the drink being made with Almond milk the latte kept a creamy mouthfeel and the flavor was just the right amount of sweetness to a coffee. My partner got the Apple Cinnamon Chai, of which had a great taste. He loves his drinks sweet and this satisfied his morning sweet tooth. We grabbed a small breakfast to hold us over, an apple cinnamon scone and an apple turnover. I'm not sure if they made it in house, but if they did bake, both were phenomenal! Reasonable prices and they even have a drive through if you want to make it a quicker trip. The inside is too cute to pass up seeing though. read more

Excellent coffee. The idea that this store is run as a High School class is brilliant. The "employees" are students learning business skills. The coffee is good- they have muffins which were popular however we did not have any. The store is cute with interesting signs and art to distract you while they make your coffee. The service is fast and pleasant. It can get busy in the a.m. rush. The store is across the street from a very pleasant park where we sat to drink our morning coffee. Plenty of parking both next to the building and on the street. read more

Love the concept behind this business... student run! Bravo!! Stayed the night in Manistique and knew that I wanted to try out the local coffee shop in the morning. Glad I did! We stopped in at 9am and it was busy but those girls just keep cranking out coffees! Thanks for the quick service. Hubby got black coffee with sugar free white chocolate, delicious. I got the special Paul Bunyan, very delicious! We didn't have she food but the coffee is excellent. Not sure if they is a parking lot so we just parked on the road, no issues and easy to get into the store Stop here for your coffee addiction! read more

It was amazing! Such a great caramel frappe. I also got my first ever scone and it was delicious. The brown sugar scone is what I got and it was so tasty. The lady even warmed it up for me! A very cute atmosphere with reasonable prices. Highly recommend! read more

Stopped on my way back home from Lake Superior. Fast & friendly service. The coffee was excellent, with the added shots of Mocha I always do when ordering coffee. Chocolate muffin was very moist, allowing me to eat while I drove through the rainstorm. No crumbs! Overall, it was wonderful coffee, an excellent muffin and a completely worthy endeavor for the students and school district. What an awesome opportunity! My husband and I need a good cup of coffee to start our day...we know we're snobs and have high expectations and it is what it is. That being said, as we were traveling through the UP we were smitten with its beauty, but had low expectations for a great cup of coffee. But HOLY COW Grind Coffee House DELIVERED! Was not expecting to find this gem but so glad we did! We each got their drip coffee and our son got a frozen hot chocolate and it was perfection. We were a little disappointed that they had already sold out of pastries by 9:30am but can't hold that against them. Excellent find in Manistique. I bought a coffee and went through town, and had every business owner mention something about that it is good I went to the Grind. Later found out it is a non profit, and is basically run by area students They always have a regular and dark roast, which were great. We stumbled upon this coffee shop one rainy cold day in October and stopped in for coffee and something sweet. The coffee was great and so was the chocolate muffin! I found out later what a contribution this is to the community and especially to this high school and was so glad to be a small part of that. We were in search of some good coffee while heading across the Michigan UP this past weekend. We happened across The Grind Coffee House by sheer chance after making a wrong turn off of US-2. We walked in a few minutes after the shop had closed, but the cheery barista welcomed us in without any hesitation. My wife ordered a mint mocha latte and I ordered an iced caramel latte (perfectly doctored at the recommendation of the barista). The coffee was phenomenal and only exceeded by the wonderful service we received. I had barely made it past my second sip when I ordered a second latte for the road home. I'm not sure I'll ever have an iced coffee that good ever again! The best part of the experience was learning that the shop operates as a non-profit that donates their proceeds to the local schools! Rolling through Manistique on our RV trek from Minneapolis to the R&R Hall of Fame we found this gem of a coffee shop. It's a student run non-profit, today staffed by Mady. She is an excellent area ambassador. Excellent service, great coffee and a comfortable space. Highly recommended. read more
