Gallery Coffee used to be a place I went out of my way to visit every morning while on vacation, but after watching the experience decline year after year--and repeatedly being met with defensiveness and visible frustration when asking for an incorrectly made $7-$8 drink to be remade--I've finally decided to find a new spot. If you care to read why, I'll explain below. My order is specific, but not complicated: a 12 oz oat milk latte, steamed warm rather than hot. I normally won't ask for a drink to be remade, but at $7-$8 for a 12 oz latte, I do feel like it's reasonable to expect it to be made the way I ordered it. Twice now I've asked for my drink to be remade. The mistake itself isn't really what bothers me--it's how it's handled. Neither time was there an apology or even a simple acknowledgment that it wasn't what I asked for. Instead, the employees became defensive about having made it correctly. What really made the interactions uncomfortable was watching multiple employees huddle together while the drink was being remade, talking amongst themselves about how it had been made correctly the first time, accompanied by frustrated mumbling. It makes you feel like you've done something wrong simply by asking for the drink you paid for. Mistakes happen. I've worked customer-facing jobs, and I absolutely don't expect perfection. But I've rarely seen employees seem so consistently irritated about having to do their job. After experiencing the same attitude more than once and noticing the atmosphere decline over several years, I can't help but wonder if there's a larger management or workplace-culture issue contributing to the negativity. It's genuinely disappointing because Gallery Coffee used to be one of my favorite stops when I visited the area. I kept coming back because of what it used to be, but this trip finally convinced me it's time to find a new morning coffee spot. For anyone looking for an alternative, Falling Rock Cafe is just up the road. The coffee is comparable and the staff have been VERY nice. If you're going through Marquette, Provisions Coffee is absolutely worth the stop--the staff there have been incredibly welcoming and warm. read more

The coffee was good, if not a bit expensive. The vibe inside was really cool. And we enjoyed the old style radios and photography on display. That said, the woman barista was loudly and clearly exasperated by our order, asking why our drinks had to be decaf (they were for our children). Other employees who offered to assist her were getting snapped at by her, as well. She preceded to loudly say how she can't wait to get out of here next week. Our drinks were handed to us with a sigh. (All a shame really because she was wearing a killer Sleep Token shirt.) The gentleman who took our order was patient and kind. Go here instead of falling rock cafe. That place is a joke. This place is amazingly beautiful inside. The art work on the walls is breathtaking. When you walk back to the counter the baristas are so sweet and helpful. THEY HAVE A TON OF SUGAR FREE FLAVORS INCLUDING TOASTED MARSHMALLOW WHICH WAS DELICIOUS! This place is a vibe! I've been to countless coffee shops and this one is truly unique. The gallery space is HUGE and it is dark, but in a relaxing way. Lots of different cozy seating options for visiting, working, or just hanging out. Easy access wifi, too. The coffee is also great! The super friendly barista, David, recommended a cafe miel (honey cinnamon) latte, and it was delish made decaf with oat milk. I'll definitely be back anytime I'm visiting Munising! read more

The best coffee I have ever had! Roasted on-site in a historic building with ambience and a vibrant local and tourist crowd. The collection of old radios is fun to look at but the pictures of the local area are exceptional. A great place to stop or hang out. Neat place! Large local venue that seemed to be available to use if asked. I went there for a event and we had a bit of an issue hearing (but that would be the event's equipment). The coffee was good, but nothing amazing. There was no espresso or any alternative milks, but it was a busy event and maybe they were just selling the basics. I also understand that we went right after it opened so they may not have been fully prepared. The bathrooms were clean and small, but they were sufficient. Parking is street parking, but worked for this event, no worries. read more

I like the BIG open space especially in these crazy pandemic times. The photos on the wall are interesting and the building architecture itself is too. They weren't too busy yet service was a little slower than I like. Especially for a basic iced coffee and a Boba tea. The coffee was quite bitter. More bitter than coffee usually should be so if that's how you like it then this is your place. The Boba tea tasted OK but it wasn't anything too exciting. The muffins were fabulous and come to find out they are just from Gordon's Food Service. We thought maybe they were from a local bakery but they surprisingly weren't. I know this place is sort of newish so hopefully things will improve as they grow and gain experience. I always like to root for the small business owners. read more

Pour over was good too and they give a big pour! Didn't try their baked goods. No decaffeinated espresso drinks though (i.e no decaf lattes/cappuccinos as well). Awesome ambiance with a very clean and open space. There wasn't a menu except for a small laminated card by the counter. There was some sort of fume by the front that made everyone who got close to the counter start coughing. I'm not sure if it was in the retail section (essential oil?) or a cleaning agent, but it was caustic and irritating to everyone who was within several feet of the area. The photos were amazing. Coffee was pretty good. Ample seating, well spaced and in great condition. There were several up/down spaces that weren't well marked, so be carful if you've got mobility issues or little ones - trip hazards. read more

The service was quick and they were friendly. Worth stopping by if you like coffee. The medium roast was bright and smooth and had a nice berry after-tone. If you don't like coffee they offer a nice variety of hot and cold teas. Very delicious and there was plenty of seating. It was a quiet environment and very nice. read more

Wasn't impressed with the coffee here, and while I don't consider myself a coffee snob I didn't taste much difference between this and gas station variety. I got an 12 oz black which I ended up dumping halfway through... whilst being nearly double the price for a large from such a gas station, I'll probably not return if I'm ever in the area. read more

The space is lovely, though not a 'coffee shop' in the sense of having seating/hangout space. It's obviously geared toward an imagined future of live music-style gatherings. I grew up going here when it was the People's Store, so huge kudos for the renovation work that went into the space. But as a coffee shop, it doesn't hit the mark. First, there's no menu or prices for their coffee drinks. Result: $7.38 iced latte with regular milk and extra shot of espresso. Second, espresso tasted burnt, as if the grind was off. (I'm a former barista, so I know how it should taste.) Third, service was glacial in its pace, even though there were not many people there. On the positive side, the person working the register was very friendly. I wish Gallery Coffee well, but Falling Rock up the street has better service, better quality, better taste, and better (and posted) prices. read more

When we went out later, we stopped here and were happily surprised. This town is not a town for "foodies." Amazing for Munising, good enough for any city in the world. read more

What a strange place. It looks like the coffee bar was added to give locals a morning pick up before starting their day drinking. I asked for coffee with cream. I was given black coffee. I asked about cream and was pointed to a table with a single, unmarked black pitcher. I asked if it was cream and the server replied, "Yes." It was not cream, but milk. The coffee had a funky taste. A few miles down the road, I finally faced realty and pored the mixture onto the ground. Other coffee spots are nearby. Try one and don't make my mistake. read more

Ordered a cafe au lait with oat milk, and it was absolutely delicious. Really love the flavor of the coffee, which the manager roasts himself. Best part of the visit, though, is the building itself. Really really cool - a converted bank that now has a ton of spaces to hang out, work or meet with others. There's a table and chairs you could use for work meetings or games, plus a lot of arm chairs. The stage is awesome too. I'd love to come back just to spend some time enjoying the space and looking at all the artwork on display. read more

Interesting coffee spot in town. They are located in a very large art gallery. Good coffee - I really enjoyed my iced chai latte. I wish they had a few more food options. My bf and I ordered sandwiches to go so we could eat them later at Pictured Rocks (the pesto chicken one was really good) but I was hoping for some baked breakfast goodies like cinnamon buns or croissants which they didn't have. read more

Walked in for some coffee. Was disappointed to see young man behind the counter not wearing a mask properly, No plexy glass or other protection as Covid cases spike in this area. Told the barista his mask doesn't work when not covering his nose and made a split decision to leave as i got a flip vibe from him. Was yelled at by someone as I left saying 'don't you talk to him like that!' And then as I was leaving, told me to leave! Sheesh! Personally my rating is not a five for a few small, but important reasons. The coffee itself was good, and strong. But the price is just too much for a lot of locals to be a "staple". I believe it was around seven dollars for a tall iced coffee with a tiny bit of oat milk and I could not taste the "Irish cream" flavor at all. Maybe a once a week type treat for locals in my opinion. read more
