Very good selection of beers to choose from, whoever is in charge of stocking them really knows their beer. The staff was extremely friendly, for example they accidentally poured an extra sample and walked it over to our table so we could try it. Great outdoor seating but it fills up fast, the inside seating is pretty decent too, nice and sunny and you get a good breeze when the doors are open. Prices are not terrible, especially for the quality of some of the beers they have, I wish the place was a little bigger or had more outdoor seating but this is def worth checking out read more

This is a great little spot in Ann Arbor, great for a quick brew between dinner and a show, or just to hang =) I particularly like sitting outside as the inside can get a bit crowded and noisy, but sitting outside is awesome =) .. their beer selection covers all the styles and there's sure to be something there for everyone. Friendly staff, plenty of beers to sample, a great indoor alternative to Bill's in the winter. They also have outdoor seating for sipping a beer on a hot summer day. It can get quite packed in the winter since on the inside it is not a huge space. read more

This place is great. They have a really relaxing outdoor sitting area where you can bring your food and drinks. Very european. They have a pretty good selection of beer and tasty snacks like popcorn. I met up with a friend for a beer. I got here a bit earlier, since it was my first time. It was super busy. I would recommend getting a table first, and then go order your beer once your friends arrives. They have a good beer selection and at average prices. For how small the Beer Grotto is it has a great selection of beers. Staff is always friendly and the truffle oil popcorn is an awesome snack. It's usually packed when I go, so haven't been able to take advantage of the outdoor seating but I love that they have the option! Great spot in AA to grab a beer with friends. read more

Decent beer selection, just kiddie corner from Bills Beer Garden. They will let you taste two beers before you order. Okay atmosphere in the summer with the patio just across from Blimpys and Fleetwood diner. Pretty overpriced though. Cost us $20 for 2 beers and the mediocre truffle popcorn. Wasent worth it as we could go to Bills across the street for half that. The popcorn is not free like the sign in the photo offerings, but it should be. We would probably just stop at the store for some good beer before going back to Beer Grotto. read more

The bartenders here are super kind, and allowed me to try a few different beers before I decided on one since they weren't super busy when we came in. We were able to sit outside on a gorgeous night! I am a strict Blue Moon/Shock Top devotee so everything else pales in comparison, so I am definitely not their target audience, who loves more obscure beers or trying a whole bunch of IPA's or something. But because they were so kind to me and helped me find something similar to the fruity beers I prefer, I give them 5 stars! The customer service they offered us is hard to match in A2 and hopefully everyone can find something they enjoy drinking here! read more

great happy hour, or should I say, "hoppy" hour. love that they let you have three samples everything before choosing a pint. I came to art fair from Detroit on advice from a friend. Everything was lovely until I came to this venue. I have to say before I write my review of the restaurant, the band they had playing was awesome! The blue rays were entertaining and perfect for the space. In fairness we didn't eat but went to the bar to get a drink. As former bartenders, we were appalled by our service! The woman behind the bar was rude and impatient, even with no one in line. She was condescending and unhelpful. I will never go back and never recommended this bar. It's a shame how one person can effect the success of other staff. read more

I don't think it's fair to say this is the best-kept secret in Ann Arbor based on the crowds that are now routinely there, but if you haven't been, you're missing out. Kiddie-corner from Bill's Beer Garden, it's a far better selection of beer -- and they let you try anything in 2-oz pours -- while the on-site patio is the chillest place in AA if you ask me. But really, it comes down to the beer and this place is always changing up its game while keeping some great house favorites on tap. This is a beer lover's hangout because whether it's light, medium or dark, they have something that will please your palette. read more

There were fewer beers on tap than I expected for somewhere that presents itself as a beer bar: compare to somewhere like Ashley's or Hopcat. On top of that, there was very little seating and it wasn't a very comfortable environment to enjoy a good beer. Maybe it'll be better with outdoor seating in the summer. The Beer Grotto is the real deal. It has a very cool local ambience, amazingly knowledgable and friendly staff like Ian whose motto is for you to try anything you want before you buy a pint and maybe a growler. Amazing selection of excellent brews and I very highly recommend the Beer Grotto if you want a great pint and a cool, local bar where you can start a tab and feel like a local. I'm a huge fan of the place. Knowledgeable, kind bartenders. Great, chill space. Awesome selection of beers that's always well-curated. Probably ideal for a small group of friends instead of a large party, given the size of the place, but I've been with as many as 10 other people and we were able to sit together out under the heated tent. Does get busy sometimes and because the bartenders are patient guys, you sometimes have to wait for some nice guy or gal to make up their mind. Protip: When in doubt, just trust the folks behind the bar. Tell 'em what you usually drink and they'll make sure you have a great experience. read more

Great concept. The only thing to improve is the queue. There is a single line formation to order your draft. When only one person is tending, there is a logjam especially if a customer is doing extensive sampling. A conventional bar top would serve this place much better. read more

If you want to taste a few beers and a couple of glasses of wine in a setting that promotes savoring drinks for just a short time, this is the place to go. There is no real bar counter. You order your selection at any of their registers and you can sit on stools inside the small building or if weather allows, you can sit outside by the sidewalk. read more
