Cute counter service sandwich place touting homemade sandwiches and soups. Hidden in a rather empty strip mall it's a little hard to find. The inside is very well kept and has plenty of seating. They bring the order to your table. I had a roast beef sandwich and their house beer cheese soup. Like other yelpers, I found the bread very tasty and fresh. The soup was also very good, it was not roux laden as many soups of this style can be. It was light and flavorful. I just wish I had a hunk of that bread to dunk in it. I will start this review by saying I accidentally found this place while driving around to try to find something new to eat, and was not disappointed AT ALL! I believe they bake their bread in house, which was a significant plus, and they had some Wonderful options right when you come in the door. The menu is laid out very sensibly, all the sandwiches made sense together, but I decided to go with the classic with the pastrami and Swiss. Dynamite sandwich, every single ingredient tasted fresh, and even though there was a nice little lunch rush, they got me my sandwich very quickly. I also appreciated how clean the entire space looked, and the next time I come for a sandwich, I am definitely going to sit down to eat. My brother took us here when I was visiting from Virginia. I got the Smoked Turkey , Ham and Swiss on wheat/white and it was incredible! The bread was so super fresh and satisfying and the house sauce was delicious! My husband got the Sicilian and loved it! We inhaled our sandwiches and also got the Mac and Ham and Potato Salads (yummy). My bro got the Beer Cheese soup and said it was excellent! A great choice for our lunch! We were looking for something different from burgers, fried fish, pub grub, and this was exactly it. I ordered the small BLT and hubs got the regular Club, both on a multigrain from a variety of breads, toasted to perfection. Topped this off with a shared double chocolate chip cookie that was soft and delicious. Everything was fresh & tasty. The service was quick and friendly. The space, including restrooms, was neat & clean with ample tables, including the Pub section which operates later in the day. Check the hours for the Deli versus the Pub. Stopped in for the first time today. The place was clean, had good music playing. Nice atmosphere. Being it was my first time visiting, I chose the "regular" size Club on white bread. I ate there. Service was friendly & fast. Had my sandwich within minutes and it was delicious. I love the fact that it's a locally owned, small business. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. As of my most recent visit, they have done a bit of updating in the restaurant and have more normal hours. Their food is still as good as ever and they have added to their daily bread varieties (see menu). The food is good and has been the same since I can remember - a good thing. However, the interior definitely needs some updating. The decor is mismatched and not in a charming way, and it doesn't look well cared for. That being said, the food really is good and is especially a hit when it appears as catering at special events. Look no further if you want a container of pasta salad that a small child could probably disappear in. And they have tons of different kinds, I have yet to try one and not like it (and I'm not even much of a pasta salad-er). Don't pass up the beer cheese soup, either. read more

We decided to stop by on the way out west based on some pretty high praise from some Yelpers. Unfortunately, this place didn't live up to its reputation. I ordered the special: hot ham and cheese on 7-grain with turkey noodle soup. The bread was ok, but the sandwich wasn't hot. The cheese wasn't melted, and we suspect it was microwaved. I liked the soup a lot, but the other menu items fell short for the rest of my party: the turkey and swiss was dry and my dad's special was similarly bland. My buddy had the Wrangler and felt his sandwich was good: "I've got nothing bad to save about it." I want to love this place as it does seem to be a Mom and Pop operation, but it seems to be struggling and was pretty empty. That being said, I'm not sure there's much better food within "freeway stopover" range. read more

Had a special today a "small Milwaukee" summer sausage Colby cheese tomato and lettuce and a home made cup of tomato soup and a soda for 7.50. This is a great spot for lunch - I was in town for work and came here almost every day. The service is quick, and there was tons of variety, including many different (delicious) kinds of bread. The story of one mustachioed barista and the glowing flame of his skills setting the hills of Bismarck aglow. I have been all over Bismarck looking for a decent cappuccino. Receiving nothing but seemingly endless cups half filled with bitter and unpalatable liquid topped with a solid puck of foam. Having giving up on Bismarck's ability to produce that warm and heavenly mixture of espresso and bubbles that I so longed after, I decided to try a Sandwich at Country House Deli. I ordered a Bismarck on sourdough (that's another delicious story) and just before I completed my order I saw on the counter that they offered espresso and more importantly: Cappuccino. "I'll try a cappuccino," I mumbled, not expecting anything different. That's when he arrived. Brandishing a pointy mustache and goatee he glided over to the espresso machine and deftly handled the controls like a 20 year veteran pilot at war. He produced a brew the likes of which had eluded me for years. A creamy caramel colored concoction that released the aroma that I hope heaven shares. I perked up. I carefully cradled the cup in both hands and hurriedly took a sip. It was perfect, and on this cold day it seemed to flow with warmth through my bones like a river of good feelings having broken Garrison Dam. Flooding the plains of the Dakotas with laughter and baby tickles. Coming out of my happy place I returned to life and asked my mustachioed hero, "what is your name, friend?" "My name is not important. The people need happiness now more than ever. The evil in this world can only be fought if we are bonded together through laughter and good cheer. Go and spread the joy." He dissipated into a cloud of golden sparks in the shape of a great eagle, and then, as if inhaled by some invisible giant, disappeared. Thank you mysterious stranger. This is probably my favorite sandwich and soup place. They have a cheese soup and it is great and the thing about that was I was nervous to try the cheese soup but I loved it! The sandwich I had was really good! The nice thing about this place is that they will let you make a sandwich and that is what I did so if you want a sandwich that isn't listed on the menu, you can create a custom sandwich!
