We went for the caramel rolls, but they were out. Settled for the homemade rhubarb kuchen and ice cream. The kuchen was delicious but because we got there at 11 they were already out of caramel rolls...couldn't give them 5 stars just because of this. I understand they are supposed to be delicious, but I just can't on premise alone. The bathroom is clean...but SUPER SMALL...just be prepared for something the size of an airplane toilet! I was just there a few weeks ago, if it's truly closed permanently that is really sad. There aren't enough of these places left and we need to keep them going! read more

I wanted to live this place.. it got good reviews.. when we walked in it reminded me of little diners in the town that I grew up in. We sat down and we were greeted by our server, I ordered water and she ordered coffee. Then we ordered our meal, I ordered the steak and eggs and she ordered pancakes and eggs. The meals arrived and we dug in, a few bites in and I found a hair a few more bites another one (I worked in kitchens my whole life, I didn't complain, I didn't send it back). The hash browns were lightly crisp on the outside and mush on the inside (see picture). I ordered my eggs over medium, 1 was over medium and 1 was over hard (the yolk broke, yet they still served it). Like I said I wanted to love it but I could not. Very quaint mon n pop diner. Really hopping! We stopped for a late brealfast/early lunch and was seated immediately. Waitresses were fast and efficient. Took our order and we received it quickly and hot. Their caramel rolls are awesome. Took some to go! The prices are reasonable. No reason not to stop, e en if you're in a hurry. This place is just good home cooking breakfast food. I can't really complain because I love breakfast food and it's actually really good. We ordered the Denver omelette and traditional 2 eggs, bacon, hash brown and toast. Was satisfying and left full. Our service was awesome. We were definitely attended to, despite how crazy busy it was in the this only little restaurant. Our server was awesome. We ordered a caramel roll to go and ate it later in the day, and oh my goodness was it the best one we had. Other restaurants throughout Bis Man sell Carmel rolls, but this place definitely took the cake. We ate it so fast, we forgot to share a pic. My husband and I come here often and usually have great service. We've probably been there 20+ times and have had a handful of experiences where service was not as great or food was cold. Overall, I do recommend it to visitors as it has a great atmosphere and good service. read more

Went to this little gem with husband and 2 kids while visiting Bismarck. We found this on yelp after being unhappy with our hotel "breakfast buffet". Good food, great service and nicely priced. We all left with full happy tummy's. We also took a Carmel roll to go after hearing someone else get one. And boy am I glad we did! We didn't even eat it till the next morning at our hotel and it was still soft and flaky and delicious. My only experience with Carmel rolls are my mother in laws who hails from North Dakota and I wasn't a huge fan. Well when I'm back in Bismarck next year the little cottage cafe will be on the hit list and we will be taking another Carmel roll to go! read more

This little place is a locally owned gem! It's small inside so expect a bit of a wait because it's always busy. It's cozy and clean. The food here is great, portions are generous and the price is perfect! We were visiting from California and couldn't believe the prices. Biscuits and gravy were fresh and flavorful. Chicken fried steak w/gravy was one of the best I've ever had. Veggie omelet is another great choice. The staff is really friendly and the service is fast. If you're lucky enough to be served by Shelby you will have a great experience. Wanda the owner was there helping things move along and it was nice to see her personal touch. A pretty decent place to stop for breakfast. Fair prices and food was really good. Funny, though I've never had brown gravy on CFS before but it was alright. Down side was the premade frozen biscuits. Big regret was that we didn't order a caramel roll. read more

First sign that this is a great place for breakfast was that the large parking lot was full at 8am! I almost didn't go in because the place looks kind of small from the outside. I'm glad I checked it out anyhow because there was a couple of tables open (the place seats more than it looks). This is another great thank you to Yelp for finding this place for me. I saw the pictures of the Carmel Rolls and like a fly to a light bulb I was on my way to the Little Cottage! I ordered the said Carmel Roll and a Ham and Cheese Omelette. Oddly the roll came out first. Which, as it turns out, was the best way. If I would have eaten my omelette first I wouldn't have had enough room for the best Carmel Roll I ever ate! I was much happier leaving half an omelette and some toast as opposed to leaving half a Carmel roll! The Little Cottage is basically a slightly cuter version of many other local diner/restaurants. Very busy, with friendly and hard working waitress. They sling out a pretty good breakfast (lunch and diner too) and it seems the locals love the place. This was a great find in a world full of chain restaurants. Off the beaten path a bit, but worth the effort! And my god... the Carmel Rolls are great!! read more

Was so excited to try this place. Came in on a Sunday morning, it was very busy (as expected) but we didn't mind waiting. The woman seating people was helping and seating people who had came in after us, yet we were still patient. The woman asked us to go huddle up in the corner with four or five strangers. She noticed I had a Starbucks cup in my hand and asked me to leave. We left EXTREMELY disappointed. People that work here and people who eat here were so unbelievable nice. Only one old dude gave me the hard eye for wearing a mask upon entering. I hard eyed back. Nothing particularly outstanding here, but we had a good lunch today at Little Cottage. The menu is pretty standard diner with sandwiches and burgers and specials, plus they serve breakfast all day. My friend chose a roast beef with mashed potatoes and brown gravy which he said was okay. I had the house omelet which was just fine and unremarkable. Service was excellent and the lady who took our checks at the end was friendly. Definitely not a date or business meal place, but it's good for what it does - inexpensive breakfasts and diner food. In Bismarck for a wedding and needed a good local place to take the family for breakfast. They are busy but we were lucky and sat down right away. The waitresses were flying around getting drinks, orders, and serving everyone with great efficiency. We each had an omelette. Came with hashbrowns, side of toast, pancakes, or French toast. I have never had one before and I am certain from the first experience I will never hav one this amazing again. I could smell the deliciousness as soon as it was placed on the table. When I halved it the caramel topping oozed out (my mouth watered) and it was nearly sensory overload. First bite and taste buds blown. Moving on to the actual new breakfast was great. I prefer fresh mushroom over canned but other than that the omelette was delicious. I did use the toast to sop up some caramel. My rating is for the food, not the service. This is a pretty small place but very popular, so breakfast and brunch time is very busy. Lucky for me I lazed about until early afternoon. I was heading out for coffee and found myself a bit peckish. After a moment of contemplation, I decided I needed hash brown. A quick Yelp search brought LCC (Little Cottage Cafe) to focus and off I headed. Upon arriving I was met with several empty booths and the entire counter. I chose one of the two-top booths, sat down and waited. Unfortunately this was the way of my entire dining experience. My food came out very quickly after I finally placed my order, but I think if it weren't for the congenial relationship between my waitress and "Regular Randy," I may still be waiting for my first cup of coffee (lucky me to have selected a booth next to his). My server wasn't unpleasant, just absent. I have worked in family-style restaurants and we'll know the mid-afternoon lull that can lure one into a bit of a slowdown, but I hope that I always focused what energy I had on my customers and not on the prep. At the very least, spread it across the entire establishment. Well I have an empty coffee cup (again) and she is chatting with friends about her summer employment plans, so I guess that is my cue to leave. Come for the food, it is worth it. Just don't expect the service to meet the same expectations. read more
