What can I say except the whole experience was just fantastic. From booking, crafting the menu, and then eating said menu, the whole experience was pretty stress free. My friend and I wanted to have a special birthday dinner for our hubs, so we scheduled them on a Sunday night. We provided one main dish which they then crafted a wonderful, balanced menu to complement. They are arrived on time with everything they needed and even though we didn't ask for any special decorations, the simple place settings were a lovely addition and really elevated the whole experience. Dinner started with an arancini crab cake (le amuse bouche). Buttery crab rolled into a crispy ball with a hint of yuzu to awaken the palate. Truly a unique dish the entire party enjoyed. First course was my favorite and consisted of Kona kanpachi carpaccio. Oh my sweet little tastebuds danced for joy as this was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Crispy garlic added a fun crunch, but the magical melding of the flavors in the sauce made everything just melt in your mouth. Second course was a ribeye ochazuke with a mushroom risotto that was so rich and flavorful it almost felt like it hugged your tongue and whispered sweet nothings as you chewed. We opted to upgrade the beef to wagyu so it was beautiful and as someone who doesn't eat red meat, I swapped for scallops. The ribeye was hella tender and the scallops were sheer perfection. A brief intermezzo of li hing calamansi sorbet cleansed the palate and signaled to our stomach to get ready for an onslaught of flavors. The main entree was beef Wellington (ahi Wellington for me) with a potato gratin that was a rich foundation. Everything was cooked to perfection on site, and they even provided a bit of background into their home garden which provides for the herbs and veggies used in most of the dishes. Anyone who knows me, knows I love locally sourced foods (I even buy big island beef for my dog's food), so this was a much appreciated addition. Dessert concluded the meal and while I was sad it was over, the sticky toffee pudding with toasted marshmallow ice cream sent me to cloud 9! If you want to make a special memory for any occasion, book them ASAP! You won't regret it. Chef Kevin and his fiancée are so kind and warm, it felt like family cooking for us. Even though they offer sommelier services, as a practicing oenophile, I crafted the pairings for our party and if I say so myself, I killed it. Looking at the pictures from other events, their decorations are classy and tasteful. Chef Kevin and Sabrina brought everything they needed to provide our group of eight with a truly memorable dining experience that I will not soon forget. The creative dishes were incredible both in taste and presentation. They say you first taste with your eyes. Our eyes were treated to wonderful plating and presentation. It got better from there as our taste buds were dazzled by the subtle yet complex layers of flavors and textures. I first heard of "The Guarden" during the COVID pandemic. The concept of a private chef coming to your home to prepare an exquisite dinner sounded very intriguing. My bestie had pre-booked this dinner experience for us months ahead to ensure that date was available. Kevin and Sabrina are amazing. Both very professional yet humble and easy to talk to. They have traveled to over 35 different counties to gain inspiration for their menu. We had ordered a 6 course dinner meal and added on an oyster appetizer and table set up with candles and flowers. Sabrina set up the table in about 15 mins and it turned out beautifully for the birthday girl. You have the option of choosing the linen color, table runner, and napkins to customize to the theme of the event. Although the portions were on the smaller end you could definitely taste the quality of the food. Food taste was 10/10! The Guarden could not have bloomed at such a better time! The pandemic has put a lot of celebrations and parties on hold--but The Guarden delivered such a life changing and memorable experience. Chef Kevin and his lovely and talented partner, Sabrina puts together the most epic experience!! From decor, the attention to details, and magnificent flavor combinations, all while supporting local farms to table concept; just breathtaking!! I'd reach out to The Guarden to celebrate a cousins baby shower-- it was the easiest planning ever! Communication with The Guarden was so easy, detailed, and they pretty much handled all the stress! I basically told them what color and theme we were going for, selected a 4 course menu based on a large variety of dish choices, and POOF the magic happens! We went for a pink/green theme for baby girl on the way and we were sooo impressed with the dishes, decor, glassware etc! Chef Kevin informed us that the menu was completely customizable, beginning with taste preference, cuisine preference, allergies and diet restrictions, and if you want more seafood, more veggies, or more meat options. They came so prepared and we had little to stress about. It was sooo convenient for them to come and cook at my cousins home! And it felt so intimate and safe considering it was in the comfort of our place/home. What a plus since it was hard to get a table for greater than 6 at a time. Upon reserving with them, I had mentioned it would be a full on surprise! They were sooo kind enough to accommodate by coming early to set up and cooked in a timely manner. Our experience with The Guarden was exceptional. Kevin and Sabrina's passion and expertise for culinary and aesthetics truly shows throughout the entire evening from start to finish. They're very professional, clean & mindful the minute they step into your home providing quality service and delicious dishes. After traveling around the world, the different cuisines and diverse flavors can be recognized in Kevin's cooking, along with his plating presentation. Our guests also admired them incorporating locally sourced produce and 'farm to table' vegetables grown in their "guarden" into their dishes as well. We also appreciate the fact that they were mindful of some dietary restrictions for our guests and it was easy to alter the menu for pescatarians while still allowing those 'meat' eaters to enjoy dishes as well. For example, they cooked the Ahi Carpaccio dish for one guest who didnt eat raw fish & subbed a salmon dish for the main course instead of serving a short rib for other guests. We had sent Sabrina a picture of the dining room, and we allowed her to design as she pleased. Sabrina definitely has an eye and skill for aesthetics as well flower arrangements.
