Very disappointing bowling and axe throwing experience. The employees were miserable and completely unhelpful. During axe throwing, the facility manager hovered over us and rudely told me I couldn't throw underhand--even though I am highly skilled, have always thrown this way, and have done so at this same establishment before. When I asked why, this facility manager became combative and was a complete jerk instead of giving a clear explanation other than just saying for insurance purposes and reading the long waiver. In reviewing this waiver, there is NOTHING referring to this throwing motion. Inconsistent rules and poor customer service really ruined what should have been a fun experience. read more

Walked in here for the first time on a Saturday at 1:30 and was shocked at the quality of this place! We ate at the restaurant and hats off to the chef because the food is great and off the chain! Not to mention the menu prices are very affordable! The gumbo is AMAZING and they really pay attention to detail. The beers on tap and the entire atmosphere is fantastic! Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad but they manager and one of her employees just laughed at us and literally did not care that we had complaints. obviously they don't care about bad reviews either because I said I was going to leave a bad review and the guy just laughed and said "okay". My parents seemed to like this place. I ate here the third night I was in Gulf Shores. I shared the seafood combo with them. Everything was deep fried. My stomach was hurting later in the night. The seafood was fried oysters, shrimp, stuffed crab and fried catfish. The stuffed crab was literally just stuffing. The Catfish seemed frozen. Gulf Bowl offers a huge space with a lot more than just bowling as they have a large game arcade, laser tag and several dining options. The main restaurant at Gulf Bowl is named the Captain's Choice restaurant that offers some good dinner options, some nice Alabama plate lunch choices along with a huge burger. The country fried steak was not so good but everything else I have had has been tasty. Gulf Bowl has been open since 1950 and at their current location since 2008. Gulf Bowl is a bit of locals secret for some great prices on good beach food. Overall while this place is often crowded it is less crowded than many of the other more touristy joints and I've never had to wait to get a seat in the restaurant. Stopped here on a windy day to bowl and do the arcade. Arcade was a rip off so we hit the Sports Bar. Service was terrible. Food was awful. I've never seen smaller chicken wings in my life. Mozzarella sticks would have been better if I bought some in the Publix frozen food section and then air fried them myself. We decided to stop in to check it because #1 son always likes bowling. Cool place that was pretty busy and we were weren't up for bowling so we decided to stop in the Captains Choice grill and we got beers & gutter balls :-) The gutter balls are breaded chicken balls stuffed with spicy cheese, but that an entirely different Yelp review. About the bowling .... The place was indeed busy and I've heard different grumblings about long waits for an alley but we didn't try to bowl but got a good look around. They have 16 state-of-the-art Brunswick lanes, pool tables, a high up obstacle course, lazer tag and they have virtual reality and lots of other video games as well. Plus there's appatently a climbing wall coming soon. In addition to the restaurant there's a bar for the adults with TV's to watch the game or you can take a beer with you while you bowl a round, always good. Something I haven't seen before is their new VIP Room that has 7 more bowling lanes, big video screen, pool tables and a full-service bar. You can book parties of 25, 50, or up to 110 people for holidays or group outings. The do parties, leagues, tournaments and all the expected stuff at bowling alleys but this a lot more, it's a family entertainment complex. We came in to the Gulf Bowl tonight to get the best out of the rain on this winter night. My family and I were greeted by Hailey who knowledgeably helped us throughout our entire experience with the bowling to the arcade to the pool tables. While we had difficulty's through our experience in bowling. Sam came to our rescue and explained how everything worked. I am beyond impressed on the customer service that my family and I received while having our family reunion. Not only were we helping but we were treated like family and that goes mikes with us. We will be back and we will be recommending all of our family and friends. The atmosphere was incredible and the cleanliness of the bathrooms and bar had established an everlasting impression on my family and I. We will be back to return for our New Year's Eve party that we host every year and we thank the gulf bowl for providing such excellent service. Everything and more! We had a group of four middle aged adults! Loved the bar; the restaurant; the staff; the bowling! Our bartenders were prompt and helpful! Our waitress, Helen, was over the top! She was prompt, Knowledgeable, and very pleasant! We all had something different for dinner and loved it. Then we went bowing! Hadn't done this in 25+ years.....it did not disappoint! Show rentals and lane rentals were reasonably priced! Shoes were clean! Plenty of balls to choose from. Great scoring! Our only drawback, the slow ball return! We will definitely be going back. We love gulf bowl for family fun with the kids or even when it's just us for a date night or can count on them to be open during holidays. So far we have spent thanksgiving and Christmas Eve bowling, eating, and playing pool. I'd prefer to eat at the restaurant vs the smaller menu at the counter. I really liked this place until recently when I had a terrible interaction with the manager Austin. We've drove from Pensacola a few times because it's so nice to have an arcade, food, laser tag, and bowling all in one spot. This time when we went we decided to try the VR game. The girl at the counter warned us that it often has issues. We paid for games any way and tried one out. After a little trouble shooting it seemed like the game was going to work. The entire game went through and we scored zero points. It seems like the guns just weren't synced properly. So we informed the cashier who nicely offered us a refund. She went to go get the manager so issue a refund and he came over there with a NASTY tone and asked why we played the whole game if it wasn't working?? I said um... we kept trying to trouble shoot and it's only a five minute long game. I told him it was just like the guns wouldn't hit any targets. His response was that maybe if we aren't good at the game then we just didn't score any points. I finally said look it's only $9 and if you don't want to issue me a refund that I DIDNT EVEN ASK FOR, you don't have to. He gave us the $9 back regretfully and went back to flirting with some little girls. After spending over $300 in the establishment I felt like this was a very disrespectful way to treat customers. This bowling alley had signs at the lane in regards to COVID precautions but there weren't any real precautions taking place. The place was packed, groups on every lane, no spacing of the lanes. The bar and restaurant were open, did not eat, but I had a few drinks from the bar and they were okay. It was very hard to find a bowling ball that was the right size for me.. the balls were all on other peoples lanes... maybe they could sanitize the balls after people are done and place them back on the shelf so others could get them. read more

I Shoulda read the reviews first. My first impression of this place was, wow what a neat place! I can't believe I have lived here 2.5 years and we haven't been here! I began looking around at the amenities in anticipation of giving a good yelp review. While there really are some interesting amenities here, such as private rooms for parties with their own lanes, an old fashioned soda fountain, a bar that's separate from the bowling so that it doesn't bother families, as well as a relatively cheap arcade for the area, laser tag, AND a small ropes course. There's also a balcony area open for rental and they had many specials throughout the week. I also liked the newer bowling shoes that fit to size with no fuss and that strapped with Velcro. And the price was ok at 4/pp for shoes and 4/pp for a game or 17/hr for a land. The lanes are well kept, though there are only about 15 lanes open to the public (there are more as I said in the private party room) So why the three stars? Well for one thing the guy at the desk neglected to tell us that there's a weekday special that would've gotten us a pizza and drinks AND $5 in arcade credits in addition to our bowling. Also... The ATM was out of order and I couldn't get any snacks or drinks - who carries cash nowadays? They Need to fix their atm or update vending machines to take cards. So I tried to get drinks at the soda fountain. I rang the bell. The woman manning the place walked right by me three times. I decided to go back to bowling as we opted for the timed bowling. Big mistake too by the way. They started from when we left the desk. I had to search high and low for balls light enough for my kids, eating up precious time. I came with our 2 kids on a Saturday night and they weren't very busy. The lanes were not oiled so lots of gutter balls. We asked if they could please turn on the bumpers because after 6 straight frames of gutter balls the kids were getting depressed. I asked the counter person and was asked how old the kids were because they had to be 10 or under. My son is 11 and daughter is 8. I said "what does it matter". The employee again restated the "policy". I couldn't believe it! We're here to enjoy ourselves and not sure why it's a problem. read more

Several of us senior citizens gathered at 4pm for drinks and supper. The waitress sat down at the table for a visit - a big NO NO. She took a few drink orders and came back with drinks for them and then she took a few more drinks and left again and came back with drinks. Once she delivered drinks for everyone, she disappeared for several minutes. Upon returning she started taking your food and even though everyone knew what they wanted she had a hard time getting the orders written up. The food came out and she had to check with each guest to get the right order to the right guest setting plates in front of the wrong person, removing the plate and setting it in front of the right person. But the worst was our individual bills, some people had 12 oz. beers while others had 16 oz. beers. She cancelled all receipts at the register and re-enter our orders with the right size glass of beer taking another 20 minutes of our time. All this over 4 oz. of beer! Just serve one size glass of beer and if people want more, they can order the second beer. Hopefully management will have better trained waitress in the future. read more

Lane wasn't ready even after we sat down at the lane. She restarted it in the middle of our game. Love it here, we come all the way from Pensacola to visit when the grandkids are in town. The VIP room is great for young families and children because you can play at your own pace, and we appreciate the somewhat added privacy and space. Laser tag was a huge hit with the nieces and nephews as well. Often when we come they have professional bowling competitions, and it's fun to see. Just come a little early to get access to the VIP room before the requests pile up. Great family spot. read more

Terrible customer service. We stood in line for 20 minutes due to a malfunctioning register, it seemed. The cashier finally moved to an open register to serve customers. By the time it was our turn to reserve a couple of lanes for myself, my wife, and our 4 teenage boys; the cashier acted like we were inconveniencing him... then he told us it would be an hour wait for 2 lanes to open. We were at our summer home for a visit and thought it would be fun to take the kids bowling. However there were rules that I didn't quite understand. You have to be 10 or under to have the rails up. Well I have a child that's a little older but he's the size of my 8 year old. I just don't understand why just anyone can't have rails of THEY choose to bowl that way. And the game kept messing up bc the kids would accidentally hit the foul line. With all that being said the guy working that night was very understanding and helped out anyway he could. He is the ONLY reason I gave 3 stars. For adults who like to bowl I think it's great but for the kids not so much. read more
