We always get great haircuts with our favorite stylists, love the hot towel, do call ahead for an appointment.

I made an appointment for 5:30 PM and arrived early at 5:20 PM due to their "Late Policy." 25 minutes passed and walk-ins were getting their haircut and finished before I ever had a chance to get one. I asked what the issue was and they said my stylist was not ready. Ten more minutes passed and my stylist was still not ready even though other stylists kept bringing people back (keep in mind I did not request any stylist so this concept makes no sense to me). At 6:00 PM, 40 minutes after I arrived I had to leave because I did not have time to wait any longer. Moral of the story: don't make an appointment and if you do, expect to wait longer than the walk-ins who don't have an appointment. I will not be coming back here and management needs to be significantly improved for that reason. read more

I called the day prior for an appointment and was told the store opened at 10 so took the first appointment. Got there at ten to realize the store didn't open till 11. So returned at 11:10 and was told we were too late. Tried to explain but was told we couldn't get in till 1:00. Unfortunately too late with a toddler. read more

I'm posting this under my wife's account. So anyway, eh, it's not the worst haircut ever. But the lady who did it, I think she was working overtime or something against her will. She didn't seem to want to be there at all, which made it a super pleasant experience. It was a $14 haircut, so my expectations were super low, and she met my expectations. read more

This place was a massive disappointment. The photos, website, reviews online, etc.. made it look like a great place to go, but it is not. They give the impression that they're a "guys' place" but it's no different than a beauty salon in the mall. There is not one, I repeat not one, single barber in the entire place. The salon, which is the best way to describe it, is all female beauty school stylists. Which, hey, that's fine if that's what you're going for, but when you market your business as a "guys' place" then it should be along the same lines as real barber shops elsewhere. My issue is not as much with the fact that is an all female staff, as I've had some great experiences with female barbers, but that those cutting your hair are beauticians not barbers. It should go without saying that any male-oriented establishment should also use straight-edge razors to finish up the back of the neck, not a buzzer. I'm surprised they don't use a flobee to cut everyone's hair. ...that aside the price, much like the experience, is cheap. I previously rated this establishment lower, until an owner followed up with me. Turns out, he was totally right and what I expected from this place wasn't at all what they advertised. My expectations were wrong, not the service provided. It is definitely better than any other salon I have been to. read more

FYI, they do not take walk-ins no matter what they advertise. Walked in and was told there was no wait. Waited 10 min....then was told it would be 25 more because the manager didn't want to cut hair that day. Wouldn't have mattered if I was told at the start, but they REALLY didn't care about wasting my time. Pretty sure they won't mind wasting yours. UPDATE:To the owner's response....you seem to make a lot of "mistakes happen" comments to all of the other reviewers too. I went to this place couple months ago. All I really wanted was a simple haircut, so I knew it wasn't to hard to do. The wait was pretty long, about 45 minutes to an hour. When it came to be my turn, it looked as though the barbers were a bit apprehensive to cut my hair, they spoke inbetween each other asking which one could take me. That is a bit discomforting but I can overlook it, it was my first time here so no complaints. Finally, one of the girls walked me to the back and gave me the comfort routine which seems to be normal there. Really I had told her I did not need more than a haircut, which she seemed comfortable with doing. The haircut felt a bit as if she was having trouble, like she hadn't really ....well.... cut afrohair before. Maybe she had? but mine was a bit more awkward. Who knows, I do not mind, a haircut is a haircut. After the cut came a washing which really was a bit new for me, no complaints that takes the work out of going home and doing it. When I got to get a good look at it, the cut was pretty rough, the line was not symmetrical, the growth was not evenly done(unevening on my sides) and I think she may have shaved my hairline a bit further back.... maybe trying to correct a mistake. The price of the cut was good and inexpensive at the time, but still I felt a bit slighted. Will I be coming back? Maybe. If I need an emergency cut, but definitely not for a line-up. read more

Showed up 6-7 minutes late and was told that they have a 5 minute late policy, which is never mentioned anywhere on their website or over the phone when appointment is made, simply that they "reserve the right to skip your appointment". The next spot was apparently an hour later. Had I known, I would not have had to waste the time to drive there knowing I would be about 5 minutes late. Maybe they think they're an airline and should overbook their spots? I have had previous haircuts there that were definitely rushed since they only reserve 20 minute or so blocks for the haircut, wash and "massage", but I did not realize their scheduling is always so backed up. read more

I recently moved to chapel hill and had to find a replacement for my hair stylist who had been cutting my hair for 20 years. Went to Guys Place and was generally satisfied. Went back and Constance was my stylist. Looks like I found my stylist for the next 20 years! Have been back to her several times and each time I left with a great haircut and it looked good weeks after. She is always upbeat and remembers you from the last visit. Really makes you feel welcome. Highly recommend Constance if you are looking for a great stylist. read more

I just moved to Durham from Orlando. I got my hair cut at a different place and they had no idea what they were doing. I had uneven sideburns and hair all over my face when I left. Found the Barbershop on google and it sounded similar to a lot of the places I frequented in Orlando before I moved. Came in without an appointment on Saturday and was in a chair within 10 minutes. I told Jenna how I wanted it cut and she knew exactly what I wanted. Fantastic service and I couldn't be happier with my haircut. I will be coming to the barbershop every few weeks to keep it nice and tidy. The shop also uses American Crew products which I've found to be fantastic. I couldn't ask for anything else from this shop, the price is ridiculously cheap, I'd easily pay more for the haircut I got. read more

I made an appointment with a chosen stylist 5 days in advance, I show up on time and stylist is a no-show.....I wait 20 minutes for another stylist because walk-ins have been served ahead of me. So they felt it was fair to give me another stylist I didn't request and push me back in line because the barber I had an appointment with was a no-show. Stupid policy! read more

I got my first haircut there on 8/3/15 and it was incredible. For 12 bucks I got a Percision haircut, shampoo and conditioner, hot towel, and a shoulder massage. Shanice was the person who did my haircut and she did very well in a very short time I was very impressed. Five stars out of five stars. read more

I've been going to The Guys Place since they first opened as The Barbershop. I've gotten consistantly good service and will continue to go back. I recently began regularly using Constance as my stylist as well as the stylist for my two sons. She takes the time to listen and confirms she understands what type of haircut I'm wanting. I watch her cut my son's hair and I can see she cares about the quality of the haircut she's giving. I have no problem reccomending her to anyone looking for a good haircut. read more

I used to go here about once a month to get my haircut with Jessica. I always had a great haircut with her. Top notch. She has since left. Sadly, since she left, my haircuts have been average at best and my usual grin has faded. Cereal doesn't taste as good, and candy has lost its appeal. Oh Jessica... Where did you go. I'm from CA and have been going to the same hair stylist for about 6 years. She asks about life, asks if I want the usual and then goes to work. I just close my eyes and 10 minutes later she's done and my hair style is simple and looks great every time. Well I moved to Chapel Hill two months ago and she didn't come with me. I turned to yelp, but was bummed that the only barber in town with several positive reviews from other guys wasn't open on sundays. The Barbershop in durham seemed close enough and had several good reviews from guys. I went as a walk-in on Sunday early afternoon and was called up within minutes. The lady who cut my hair was friendly and I told her all I knew was that I liked a #3 shaver on the sides and to leave about an inch of hair on top. She definitely left more than an inch on top, but other than that she did a great job and quickly too. The place is set up to give each customer a private booth, control over a personal TV, hair wash and massage included with the haircut. All this and I paid less including a generous tip ($16), than I have ever paid for a haircut. Its the first time I've ever left a barber shop actually looking forward to returning. read more

Never go to this place. I had been a customer here for years, but the last few times I have gone this year, I have received the worst haircuts of my life. The service just seems to be getting worse and worse. The staff always seems to be in a bad mood and rush to cut the client's hair as quickly as possible. That'd be great if they did not mess up my hair every time. If you are looking for a cheap and quick haircut, I heard there is a homeless guy down the street that will do it for free. He'd still do a better job than these people. I have wasted way too many weekends here. Last time I was here, I showed up for a 1:30 appointment. I did not get called back until 1:40. When I asked the front desk what time I would be called back for my haircut and told them that I had made a 1:30 appointment, the lady told me they were running a few minutes behind and simply rolled her eyes. I am not a business owner, but I know that is no way I would want my employee treating a customer. The owner should be ashamed of this institution. Quick heads up: NEVER MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT THIS PLACE! You have a better chance of getting a haircut before someone with an appointment.
