Im retired like I told him several times This is what I clearly told Frank a year ago and he said that it was" no issue at all" ..So I ended up coming back to the club a year later to finally join up. He asked me for ID which I showed him, then he started to say oh didn't you come in here a year ago etc, so I said yes I did. He then tells me "oh your ID says retired you can join at the full rate" and "I told you last time that im not giving you the discount we offer ...(that's not true at all ), What he said was that it was NO ISSUE".. He started to examine my ID, hold it up to the light literally about 5 different times ,,,Not sure what that was about...I said Frank, " WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY ID- YOURE EXAMINING IT LIKE ITS A FAKE $100 BILL OR SOMETHING, I said is there an issue?????..and he says " OH NOTHING I WAS JUST LOOKING AT IT. He then continues to say he's not giving me the discount and he told me this last year. I said NO PROBLEM...I was leaving, asked him for my ID back, and he started taking pictures of my ID with his phone... Maybe you can clear that up for me Andrew..what was that about after I said no problem and was clearly leaving the club with my coat on. Why did he start taking pictures of My ID? However, in recent years I find myself more in agreement with Eliza G (Jun 9 25) who wrote: they only care about money and don't take members seriously. I had questions regarding options and changes to my membership and the manager Frances Frierson gave me a song and a dance "we'll get back to you". I waited several days, then went again in person and still could not get answers. I really enjoy being a member at The Gym. The space is always clean, the equipment is modern, and the staff is friendly, but what truly makes my experience special is my trainer Monica. Before working with her, I had never strength-trained. She taught me the mind muscle connection. As a runner with a few imbalances, I really value how she builds in mobility, flexibility, and functional strength so I move and feel better overall. In five months, the progress has been amazing. Monica plans every session thoughtfully, challenging but never overwhelming, and always tailored to my needs. Her coaching style is the perfect blend of clear instruction, supportive energy, and just the right amount of push. What really sets her apart is her holistic approach. As a certified yoga teacher, she brings mindfulness and stress relief into each session, making every workout feel like a full reset. Management is terrible and doesn't create a safe space for people to simply just work out. They do not take any accusations against other members seriously because they only care about money. As a previous member here, I can attest that no woman can safely go to this gym without feeling like a man is going to do something to you. Please stay away from this place. The Gym is the nicest gym I've had the pleasure of working out in. Everything is SUPER CLEAN and the all cardio and strength machines are in good shape. There's ample space to stretch and enough machines and benches to go around. It can get a bit packed during peak hours, but it's never too crowded. Did I mention how clean everything is? The staff are amazing! They're always so welcoming, helpful, and are just really friendly people. I also want to commend their COVID response efforts--when I first joined last year, they went above and beyond in helping me feel safe via their safety measures and policies. Many of us, struggle to regain form when battling the aging process, or for the accomplished athlete, the GYM's Pilates' team provides the added competitive edge. This place is immaculate! Everything is very well taken care of and maintained, and I've never seen a gym bathroom so clean in my entire life. Feels more like an upscale spa than your typical grimy gym locker room you find at most places. But the thing I like the most about this place is the atmosphere. More times than not I've found myself in gyms that gave off really bad vibes and seemed to be filled with people that seemed more concern with taking a selfie and mirror pics than actually focusing on their health and fitness. This place as nice as it is isn't pretentious at all. Everyone there seems extremely friendly and non judgmental of anyone. There's just good vibes all around. I started this as a reference for myself, but might help anyone planning to attend a class at THE GYM. Power Flow Yoga (Mina D) - Nothing powerful about this class. The poses were too easy and the flow wasn't natural. It was more of a group stretch than yoga. Vinyasa Yoga (Kitty B) - Yoga with lots of toys. The instructor wasn't flexible and didn't expect the class to be, either. The distraction from the music, blanket, blocks, and stretch strap precluded all introspection. Vinyasa Yoga 90m (Sally T) - Classic 'flow' yoga, usually not very busy. Sally offers fun tidbits of astrological advice and spiritual guidance throughout the class. Long, but not very challenging. I leave feeling good. Vinyasa Yoga (Lissette C) - Another good yoga, but Lissette is less spiritual and more serious than Sally. No new poses learned in this class, but I left happy. Cardio Yoga (Katherine A) - Yoga poses to a dance beat with lots of hopping around. Not a tough workout, and definitively not a meditative yoga class either. Strength w Stretch (LJ) - Started out with 'strength,' which could have been more accurately described as torso-wiggling for geriatrics. A few people left the class bored. The strength exercises all built up to... a plank. The second half, 'stretch,' was exactly what it sounded like, with accessories. A super snoozer. Body Sculpt (Mina D) - Cardio workout with lots of toys. Transitions between using the different accessories weren't very smooth, and the workout didn't sync with the music. Mina was very enthusiastic. Kick-Box (Mina D) - Line dancing combined with shadow boxing. The teacher had everyone run and lunge around, which was a fun change. Fun but not really enough kick-boxing to be called Kick-Box. Boot Camp (MarryEllen M) - Punching the air and marching in place, even for a straight hour, isn't much of a workout. Similar to Body Sculpt but more swinging arms and legs around, and less accessories. The moves generally tried to follow the endless mix of pop songs. Should not be called 'boot camp' as I barely broke a sweat. Cardio Cuts (Shira K) - Exactly the same as kickboxing, bootcamp, body sculpt, etc. A lot of punching the air and bouncing around. First half is 'cardio,' second is 'strength', the 'strength' is just a little slower and with 5lb weights. n.b. The 'Class Levels' system is useless, as they are all rated the same '1-2-3' (beginner-intermediate-advanced). Every class I've attended so far should be rated a 1 (too easy), especially the yoga. read more

I'm a firm subscriber to the notion that what you pay for is what you should get, and a membership at The Gym fits that to a T. While not the most budget friendly gym around as their membership hovers around $90/month if you sign up for a year, it's cheaper than comparable gyms in New York. Now that being said, The Gym definitely puts your money to good use, as their facility has some of the most clean, aesthetically pleasing and well-kept equipment around. Their lockers are completely free, with a passcode system that, while confusing at first, is extremely secure. They also have no BS hidden charges like equipment maintenance or sign-up/registration fees. Oh, and their front desk here is actually helpful, and friendly to boot. Aside from the awesome facility (including their saunas, clean showers and towel stations), they also have some of the best classes and instructors around (I don't usually partake in classes myself, but my gym-obsessed friend assures me that they are the best). And out of the few times I've been here, never once have I seen this place packed. You're free to work out at your leisure without some chunk of meat breathing down your neck, waiting for their turn. However, if your ultimate goal is to eventually become said chunk of meat, you can probably do that elsewhere, at a cheaper rate (which is the only reason I'm knocking The Gym down a star). read more

Thoughts in general: - First, this place is immaculate. The staff is constantly cleaning the floors, the cardio and weight lifting equipment, the bathrooms, the showers, everything ALL THE TIME. - The place is huge. The only time I ever felt the place was crowded was during the post-New Year's rush and that didn't last very long. - The staff is extremely professional and polite. Can you get a good workout? - There are tons of weights and strength training and cardio machines. I only use free weights, so I cannot vouch for the weight machines, but their cardio selection is pretty thorough. They have lots of treadmills, stair climbers, stationery bikes, ellipticals, and rowing machines for you to choose from. - The pre/post-workout stretching area is large, so you don't have to worry about accidentally getting in the way of another exerciser. - Although there aren't private television sets for each machine, there are more than enough screens, so you don't have to miss your favorite show. - They have plenty of classes - and they always seem to be adding more. I have yet to encounter a bad instructor. What about the locker rooms? - Again, I cannot stress how clean everything is. There is a bathroom attendant whose sole function is to make sure the showers are cleaned after each individual use. - Oh, and the showers are *fantastic* - each shower has three powerful showerheads, so you can get a serious massage just from getting clean. However, if that's not your thing, they are adjustable. - The towels are big and fluffy. - Their sauna and steam rooms aren't huge, but they are spacious enough and again, really clean. - You don't need to bring a combination lock. Each locker has a digital lock that is easy to set up. - If you don't like carrying toiletries, they have basics like shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotions, razors, shaving cream, mouthwash, cotton balls and swabs, good hair dryers . . . and probably other things that I haven't used yet. Anything else to add? - Complimentary child sitting is a huge plus. The playroom is big and has lots of toys for the kids to choose from. My nieces love it when I take them there. - They have a massage therapist on hand - I've used him twice and he was great. It's a little pricey, but really convenient. - The Gym's kitchen is pretty good. They have the usual assortment of shakes and juices, plus real food and every possible non-crappy exercise bar you can think of. - I think the price is reasonable, especially since The Gym is probably one of the nicest gyms in the area. read more

I LOVE THIS GYM. I like Vinyasa yoga so that's the only yoga class I've taken here so far. It's not too challenging nor it is easy. It's perfect for me. Wanda really works your butt off. Sometimes I can't even do the poses that she instructs us to do! But she's amazing. :) The group fitness classes are challenging for me. I'm an out-of-shape 23 year old and I've tried Pilates, kick-boxing with Mina and Butts & Guts with Jenn. I had to leave Butts and guts 15 minutes in because I could hardly move any more. Needless to say, I had trouble walking, getting out of bed, sitting down in a chair for the next three days. If you've been working out for a while now though, I feel like the classes should be fine for you. There are a lot of soccer moms here. I go right after they open so I can get to work on time. Everyone at the Gym are very fit and I don't think I've seen a person in the morning who seems like they hate being there. The staff are very friendly and remember your name (which is kinda impressive to me). My membership adviser was Steven (the bald guy). He really didn't pressure me at all to sign up. Gave me a one-week guest pass to try out the place for free. I came from a referral and live in the neighborhood so I get a discount and my friend gets a $120 gift card to use at the juice bar. Steven said that I could pay for a monthly membership to start out and take advantage of all the free sessions they have (2 personal training sessions, spa trial session etc) and still get a full refund - no questions asked within two weeks of signing up! Hell yeah to that! :) The gym is very clean. There is a cleaning lady in the showers during the morning (I don't know if she's there during other times) who constantly cleans up the showers after everyone exiting the showers. I have been to a lot of gyms in my life, and this is my favorite! I love this gym! I was a member 4 years ago, stopped due to a work-related injury, and recently signed up again because I missed this place a lot. This place is spacious, super clean, and equipments are well maintained. I thrive on classes like yoga, spinning, cardio and cross training. The instructors are energetic and keep you moving every minute. The membership comes with 3 personal trainer sessions, a 1:1 kinesis training, a 1:1 pilates training, a shake from the juice bar, a goal assessment session with a weight management specialist, and five guest passes. They also have complimentary child sitting for parents! The sauna is great and the showers are AMAZING! The only problem is the cost because it is up there. Thus, I gave it 4 stars. But it is worth it for keeping myself healthy :) read more

Excellent daycare service my three kids love it everyone is so wonderful with them it makes things easier for me I can do my workout free of worries knowing they are in good hands. Best gym I've ever belonged to. The entire staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The front desk staff knows my name and my shake order--all are really nice! The yoga instructors are great--I love Chris, Sunny, and Kitty! The dance classes with Chris and Nancy are like nothing I've ever experienced--amazing, fun, a tough work-out. A packed house because they are so awesome! My personal trainer, Will, is incredible--the right amount of tough love, skill, and motivation. I've lost 25 lbs so far with his guidance. The older man who showed us around was so rude and kept trying to push the sale when I didn't even get to look at the place. Also who would pay 100 dollars a month for an old low quality gym? As someone who has been writing for bodybuilding magazines and websites for almost 30 years I am pretty picky when it comes to gyms. I went here with a friend over the 4th of July holiday as we were spray tanning for a bodybuilding show in a nearby hotel and had complimentary passes. I have to say I was very impressed with the obvious cleanliness and the range of machines and free weights. We did a brief chest workout during our break and the machines were excellent. The staff were also very nice and the whole gym just has a good vibe. No it's not a hardcore gym - that is why it is so clean:) However it does seem to cater to all categories of people and yes the usual gym stereotypes were there(regular gym goers will know what I mean). All in all though a good gym and worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

I've been a member for almost a year. Almost is a key word for my experience. I've been relatively happy during that year-the facilities are nice, the classes are good and there are enough machines to handle the crowds. However, I have had an absolutely abysmal customer service experience with them and this has tainted my view. I am going away from a month in June and I requested to freeze my membership online. I was then sent a stock email stating that my request had been denied since my first year contract expires in July. I called them and requested to speak with a manager to see if anything could be done. I spoke with an extremely rude manager who was no help at all and told me I had to come in to discuss it. I came in and spoke to the front desk who gave me a card for a client relations specialist. I called client relations and he told me I had to speak to his boss, who would call me in 15 minutes. 5 hours later I call back saying I hadn't heard from anyone and he then told me that they realized my account was actually at the other location in Montvale (which I haven't been to in a year) and I had to speak to them and that's why no one had called me. No one had ever said this before. They promise a call by Monday. 5 minutes later the manager calls me back and says they looked at my account and realized that I actually go to Englewood most frequently. The manager couldn't do anything citing that "if I do it for you I have to do it for everyone". I disagree and think that for an $100+ month membership there should be some wiggle room, especially as I'm a month away from either continuing at The Gym or finding another gym. Even so, I can respect the resolution. I can't respect the irritating, circuitous route I was forced to take to get there. I will probably be finding another gym in a month from now. read more

I wanted to take a minute to praise the efforts of The Gym in response to COVID-19. In a normal world, The Gym is nothing short of amazing... great equipment, incredible classes, wonderful amenities, aesthetically pleasing, squeaky clean (seriously...the pleasant smell in the Englewood location has not changed since they opened the doors of what was a brand new building 14 years ago). More importantly, what makes this place so special is the incredible, dedicated staff members who radiate the most positive vibes and truly make you feel like family. From the moment you walk in the front door you can expect to be greeted with a smile from someone at front desk, then again from everyone working the shake bar. As you walk into the locker room, it continues from their cleaning staff who are always in sight and working hard to keep The Gym spotless. Step out onto the gym floor and get ready for more greetings from the trainers and cleaning staff. Take a walk upstairs to the group class studios and then you'll really start to feel it. You'll find instructors and members waiting outside the studios, catching up and getting motivated for their classes. It's honestly hard to put into words how incredible this community is. For all that it is, I have always felt so blessed to be part of The Gym community because it is truly like no other. Now, more than ever, I am so thankful to be part of this community. When it was announced that The Gym was required to close in response to COVID-19 a few things ran though my mind...1. How am I going to keep up my routine while we are all stuck at home? 2. I am truly going to miss seeing the people who keep me motivated regularly as I walk through those doors -- Well, here we are less than two weeks later and The Gym has promptly planned and executed solutions to both of my fear-provoked questions with their recently launched The Gym Home Experience. THANK YOU for your continued dedication to your members (and beyond) by giving us the ability to bring some of our favorite trainers into our homes via your livestream feed. Those familiar voices bring some normalcy into this extremely unpredictable world we are currently living in. As a member, I find that "The Gym" caters to everyone. However, it is a place for Professionals and people alike. The Gym is super clean at all times, supply very clean towels in all areas of the floor, has a Spa, steam room ans sauna in the locker rooms. You do not have to bring anything with you, everything is provided. There is a lovely big bar when you enter where fresh and delicious protein shakes are made for a fair price, also water, fruit, etc. The staff is friendly, not perfect. Trainers seem very dedicated and I can agree with the other person who made the comment in their review about trainers rudely standing in front of others. I saw that with my own eyes twice. Not cool. I would definitely not tolerate a situation like that if the situation ever presents itself. Overall, it is an exquisite gym. Well worth the money. read more

This place has just about turned my life around. Hot sauna, Amazing Shower(with shower jets), Amazingly clean facilities and all the machines/workout areas you could ask for... (except a basketball court, swimming pool, squash court, etc. BUT I'll forgive them for not having those :D) The employees are always cleaning everything. There are 2-3 men taking care of the bathroom areas at all times and there are tons taking care of the outside workout areas. Every employee is extremely kind and has a smile on their face. Being around successful beautiful people with very nice facilities only makes me want to be even more successful. It's a clean gym and if you are into taking classes, then this is the place to be at. I have recently moved to Manhattan for work, and tried to cancel my membership which I have paid cash for 6 month ahead. They have charged my credit card on file for the second month on the row. I guess this is why they ask for your credit card on file!! I tried to speak with a "manager" by the name of Reggie and his customer service was terrible. He raised his voice while I was explaining my situation to him. I then asked to speak to someone in their Back office and I was told by him, there is no Back office! The actual manager, mike called me back and basically said when you decide to come back I will give you a month for free. This is absolutely terrible that you are not able to accommodate people for life events! Why would I want to come back to this place when all you did was charged me for 2 months knowing I'm not close to the location! When you want to sign up and they take your money, it's an immediate process. However if you need to cancel your membership, it could take up to 30 days! This is how you attract clients? read more

This place was incredible.Spotless clean,plenty of machines,lots of room,myriad of classes and even some more private areas to work out in.Sauna,steam,beautifully appointed locker room with locks and towels.Staff friendly,great location. I called to make an appointment to see the place,Steve;who took my call was very accommodating and friendly and I just got back from touring the place.So why is this not 5 stars? The price point.... Yeah,It's a 4 star facility for sure,and while I CAN afford the monthly rates,it's just about 50% more a month than I am WILLING to spend on a gym membership. I did appreciate the fact that Steve was not at all pushy about it, no hard sell like the one other gym I've looked at so far. Even after I said the price point was not going to work for me, he still offered me a free pass and asked if I wanted a coffee or tea. Now that's class. I really really like this place. The classes are great, the facilities are clean and the equipment is up to date and really good. I find many of the patrons to be snotty NJ housewives, but I don't care. I do my thing and go. I also think the sauna and steam room are great too. I wish they had more parking, though. Anyways, great place!!! It makes me want to work out more. So i wanted to update my review: everything above is still true, but I cancelled my membership for a few reasons: 1) I found it very difficult to get a spot in certain classes in the soft room during peak hours . Basically, I rarely was able to get into a barre class. 2) people were very territorial and were not nice to make room for other people In the class to come in. Would have been smart if they made floor markers so people knew where to stand and everyone had a spot 3) the dance class with chris was always overcrowded and dangerous. I wish they made it sign up only because it was so tight that i almost got hurt a few times by others dancing near me ( kicks, bumps, etc). 4) some of the instructors are snotty and rude.. 5) i got tired of going there to work out and then being disappointed because i couldnt get into the class i wanted OR it was too crowded. I do love this place and would give it 5 stars because it is so clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, and there is so much space that you do not feel crowded or have to wait for any equipment. But.. I am giving it 3 stars because of the yoga classes.. the instructors are so nice and friendly, but after taking yoga for over 10 years I came to The Gym and found the classes to be so different from what I was expecting. Not very challenging and no flow or real challenge as the descriptions suggest. Where are the OMs? Hoping they change the schedule and add some more traditional vinyasa / power yoga classes. read more
