just go to memory express or Canadian computers. the reviews look good so i brought it in, 7business days later and they still had no idea what was wrong. so i wanted to take it to another repair shop, they still charged me by the way.i then brought it to memory express, they found the problem in literally 30minutes while i waited there. dont waste your time just take a look at their ssd prices and you know they haven't been up to date on anything in awhile. read more

The Hackery had fixed my laptop hinge maybe a year ago. A few days ago, I closed the laptop with part of the cord inside, near the hinge. The hinge broke again. The owner of The Hackery had good advice: Don't fix it; get a new laptop. That's why I trust this guy. He's giving me advice that makes sense for me -- not for his bottom line. These guys are truly the best. I feel like my computer is totally safe with them - they're not trolling through, looking for naked pictures. They would be sorely disappointed in mine, not because they don't exist but because I don't look that good naked. Soooooooo glad I found The Hackery! I will be telling everyone I know about them. I wish everyone conducted business like this. You can tell that they are doing what they love. Honest, easy going, professional and competent. My hard drive failed last week. Dropped it off Friday around noon and picked it up at the end of their next business day. I respect and appreciate that they are all about recycling and repairing. I highly recommend them. A quote from their website: "The Hackery has a simple philosophy: if we can't repair it, we won't charge you! You can expect a detailed explanation of what is wrong with your computer, and a down-to-earth opinion of what should be done." Also be sure to read the __ reviews not recommended at the end. I'd give more stars if I could. We dropped off my son's laptop because of problems he had with some online games. We got a quote of $72.00 to run some basic diagnostics and determine the problem They called back to ask which games my son had problems with and shared some insights with him as to the deficiencies with his type of laptop(Lenovo). When we went to pick up the laptop they explained that gaming laptops run hot and as a result have a very limited shelf life of a few years. They suggested a few options going forward including staying with desktops as they represent more value and components can be more easily repaired or upgraded. We also got a good lesson on how to handle warranties when buying computers in the future. And the cost of all this....nothing. Free of charge including the diagnostics. Jax explained that they wouldn't charge as they didn't fix the problem. These guys are great, throwbacks to a time when service and reputation were everything. I highly recommend. I went to this place because I loved their mandate. Unfortunately upon entering the store and presenting my computer to the staff the first thing that he said to me was that he hates computers. I thought he was just kidding until he said it again and then yes one final time. None the less I still had hope! They tried to turn my computer on a couple times and then told me it was best i throw this one out and get a new one. I was upset but trusted their opinion. Luckily I didn't give up and brought it in for a second diagnoses somewhere else. Instead of buying a new one for $800 dollars i got it fixed for $180. I would not recommend this place to anyone with major hardware or software issues. read more

Hi friends, I wanted to recommend the Hackery, at the bottom Victoria drive right before Jj bean, if you have computer problems/needs. I brought my computer in, the owner, a great 26 year old young guy offered the kind of customer service that use to exist. I called before I went and he was super helpful, in person he was friendly, professional, helpful - helped me to figure out my long term frustration with printers ( inkjet vs laser, laser all the way is cost effective and will last a long time). Oh yah, then when my baby needed to be breast fed before I left I felt comfortable to ask if he had a space I could sit down, he gladly say, "of course and would you like a chair or a stool?" then in total privacy in the back I fed babe and was on my way with a friendly goodbye. Today he called me to tell me the news, fixed this and that, recommending to install this and that...he suggested I install less ram (a pay cut for him) because it would be better for me as my computer is getting old and extra ram will not effect much. All of this for $75! His name is Jacks and he is a great business owner and if you need help with your computer, questions about upcoming purchases...he is your man. My Macbook was freezing - totally non-functional with the fan making noise and running on overdrive. took computer to Apple store in oak ridge mall. A week later the Apple store called me to say that the hardware was non-functional and that i needed new memory drives and new logic board. so parts/labour would cost $850 (not much less than a new macbook). plus they said all my files were done and that hopefully i had backed up files (i had done some but not all). was heading down that route - but found the hackery Yelp reviews. thought i would give them a try based on these reviews. so just got home tonight - not only did they fix my computer - they didn't have to replace a single part (was a software and not hardware problem). so for $60 (1 hour labour) i have a fully functional computer with all my files..... so basically they saved my over a thousand dollars. they have made a new customer for life - and will tell all my friends about them. simple storefront that you wouldn't realize how good they are and a bit out of my way, but run by people who know what they are doing. beyond impressed and happy. read more
