I had a great Hair Lab experience. I am new to the area (Mt P) and have been making the rounds with the local spots for a mens haircut. I was looking to get more of a salon-style cut vs a barber-style. After a bit of poking around on yelp and instagram, I found Hair Lab. Once the appointment was set I had a great experience. Abbie was expert in the ways of mens scissor cuts. I was really really happy with the cut, and more importantly... so was my life :) The salon itself is well taken care of and packed with products. Everything was new and clean. The vibe was relaxed, with a tinge of fun via good music and seasonal decor. I am legitimately relieved that I have found a spot to get a haircut. Obviously I can't speak to the stylists outside Abbie, but I can say that I will be back and I would happily recommend Hair Lab to a friend. A heads up: The booking process via the site is a bit on the heavy side. You will need to fork over a bunch of info and billing details to get an appointment. Since moving the Charleston 4 years ago I've bopped around from salon to salon....until landing on Hair Lab! Once I discovered the salon I've always returned. I love the light/airy atmosphere of the salon. There is a relaxation room stocked with treats/drinks for while your hair sets. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I see Abbie and she always listens to what I want to do with my haircut while providing honest and professional feedback/suggestions - and every time I walk out incredibly happy! OMG! What wonderful salin! I went in for a consultation for my hair extensions and color. Mycolor was a platinum blonde from gray to dark brown hair, so even a partial highlight has to be heavy. Erica was kind, patient and very knowledgeable. After the consult, she had time to do my hair. That was a crazy bonus! Once we got the color done, I got a phone call and had to leave without my extensions being put in. Erica was great! She was able to put me on her schedule the next day to re-install Mt extensions. I LOVE this salon! Everyone was so helpful and kind. I am a travel nurse and needed a salon where I am going for upkeep of what Erica had just created. Just moved here from California. Was looking for a highlight and cut. Did my research and reviewed salons and stylists. I was able to secure an appointment here very early on a Monday morning. The drive appeared to be an hour, but ended up looking like almost 2 hours to get to appointment. I left with plenty of time to arrive on time. During the drive I realized I was going to be very late for the appointment due to the traffic situation. An hour before the appointment I informed the studio I would be late and felt it was unreasonable to arrive late so chose to reschedule appointment. During the process of making my appointment and securing my credit card information, I was not informed of the 100% cancellation fee. They plan to charge my credit card $308 and wanted to know how soon I wanted to reschedule. Are they kidding? I won't be returning and I will be refusing the charge on my credit card. So much for Southern hospitality. UPDATE-later in the afternoon I got notice from The salon that they "BANNED" me, LOL... read more

I followed stylist Mary here from another salon and my first visit here should have been my last. Despite having quite the air of superiority, it is basically a little bit nicer than a Hair Cuttery. My first visit I was paraded around for a "tour" of the basic rectangular space and then told repeatedly how it is a "spa" experience.......it is NOT. I went back for a second cut and this time brought my daughter (4 years old) because they told me an appointment opened up before mine. Mary has seen my 4 year old before and this time gave her a 10 min cut without a wash. While we were there, it was very clear that they did not want children in the salon, they were rude to her and me throughout the visit. Then at checkout, they ask you to choose a percentage for tip first, which I did at 20%, then I was asked if they should run the credit card on file, which I agreed to. Only seconds later to realize that the price was not what I expected. They charged a full adult price $54 for my 4 year olds cut and I was told by the manager Miranda that "we don't do kids cuts". Now, I understand if that is your shop's policy and you communicate that BUT that is not what happened here. Mary should have told us that before she cut my daughter's hair ( I paid $20 at the last place) and there should be transparency in what you are paying for at check out. They were unwilling to right the situation and lied to my face when I asked to speak to Mary. I will NEVER be back and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

I grew up here and we just moved back. I have gone to stylists all over the country as we have lived in Seattle, SF, NYC and Chicago to name just a few places. My hair has never looked better. It took me a year of going through stylists in Charleston and Mt P but this salon is the best. And the ladies at the front desk are the nicest and most accommodating I've ever experienced. It had been a year since my last professional cut and 4 months since a self-inflicted mid-pandemic at-home hack job; I was overdue for some serious professional help. When I saw announcements of Hair Lab's ribbon-cutting opening, I took it as the sign I needed to get something booked. I was pleased with the ability to book an appointment easily online for within a couple days - and with the master stylist owner, Laura! When I arrived for my appointment, I was warmly greeted and shown around by the salon manager. I was so impressed with the cleanliness and COVID precautions they had in place, posted on signs and practiced in full - I will be referring all of my family & friends who have had apprehensions about a salon visit during the pandemic. I filled out some brief paperwork and was in the chair for my cut exactly on time - which is definitely unusual for salons that typically run behind schedule in my experience. The new client paperwork was a clear indication of the professionalism and unique perspective of Hair Lab - questions about my hair and scalp condition, as well as my #hairgoals. Laura was fantastic, listening to my expectations & haircut desires and executing on them beautifully. I was in a bit of a time crunch and she was super helpful getting me out the door in the time I had - but not before booking an appointment for color next month! I don't think I have ever been so excited to have a new go-to spot to make all of my hair dreams come true; their list of services is insane - options that I didn't even know existed.
