I searched a bit on Yelp for hair cuts and salons for curly hair and learned about the Deva Cut. I figured I'd try this salon and was so pleased that I did! The Deva Cut is a dry cut with natural care and styling products and specific techniques meant to tame frizz and encourage curls at the same time. The Deva way of thinking is to stop fighting curl and to embrace it by making it look better than you ever imagined possible. Melanie, the salon owner, is the one Paragon staffer who is trained in the Deva cut. I found her to be polished, nice, a bit quiet, and very thoughtful and careful in the way she handled me and my hair. She was most definitely not a traditional chatty, gum-chewing, long fingernailed fashion diva wannabe. She paid attention to what I said and I did not cut too much or attempt to persuade me to change the style or color of my hair. Setting up the appointment was pleasant, Melanie was on time, and the receptionist was nice. The salon is comfortable but not flashy or overly luxurious. Melanie was able to trim and shape my hair without losing too much length and also the got rid of the scraggly bits at the center of my back, which I had due to a U-shaped cut. I left with incredibly curly, healthy-looking hair and a lot of excitement about trying the Deva way of life. Also worth noting is that my hair was just as curly the following morning (it usually flattens out quite a bit when I sleep on it). She did it with a smile on her face :-) I actually called the morning of and she was able to fit me right in! We talked about my color and cut and Lauren was right on par with exactly what I wanted. She was very nice, welcoming and open to what I wanted. I started with unevenly colored hair, long root growth and old faded dye on the other bottom half. I was looking to be rid of the faded reddish color and start going lighter so that eventually I can have a much lighter brown. The color came out nice! It's a nice lighter brown and looks a lot more even. The haircut was just what I wanted, shorter and a little layering with texture. She gave me options of styling it and parting it differently. Very happy that I found this salon and a stylist I am happy with in Portsmouth! My fiancé will be going for his haircut there next week!

Looking back this is probably so I'd spend my money before the rude treatment I received after I stepped out of the door. Not only was my hair what I very specifically said I did NOT want, what I ended up with looked so bad I had to get it redone a few days layers. Another few hundred dollars down the drain. They also refused to cover a second appointment to fix what even the stylist said was "incomplete". I called in reference to my appointment a few days later and was shocked when they put me on hold, and I guess they forgot to press the button, I heard them say rude things about me and how I asked them to fix my hair. I was nothing but nice to them and they did not return an ounce of my kindness. I've never left a negative review like this before but I was shocked at how I was treated here.
