The apartment itself is located in an optimally central location, with a sense of suburbia yet still being in close proximity to downtown. He was there for over 50 years and it was a daily reminder of our mom who passed away a couple years earlier. But it was necessary as he was having trouble with stairs and was at an increasingly high risk of falling. The first few months were predictably difficult. But he quickly made connections with other residents and eventually started thinking of the Avant as home. He was treated so well by the staff. They were unfailingly attentive and thoughtful. They looked after him and cared for him better than we could've possible hoped. When his health took a bad turn or he fell, they were on top of it immediately. They contacted us right away and gave us thoughtful guidance at every step based on their considerable experience. Li Li, Trish, and the entire staff are very professional, knowledgeable and kind. The facilities are clean, modern, and well cared for. From what we heard from dad, the food was consistently great. My family and I highly recommend the Avant without any reservations.

Mom was worried they would have to go to "The Other Side," also know as the memory care unit. Other residents say things to scare them about this arrangement. Dad loved the swimming pool in the apartment living, but once he 'crashed' into another swimmer who yelled at him, he no longer swam. Thus, my mom was ready to move out and live in their own home. Dad passed away a year ago and Mom, who is 93, is happy to live in her home. For me, I live 3 hrs away and always worry. I wish she continued to live at the Avant. She is isolated in her home, doesn't have transportation, but is happy to walk to her downtown. She is of sound mind, so I don't have any say, but that doesn't mean I don't worry. The Avant is a place I would live in the future and now that Mom is on her own, I think she would be more receptive to making friends with the other residents.

My workplace is…read moreclose-by, and sometimes after lunch we walk through the outside ring parking to reach Middlefield and return to the office. Today, two of us were walking through chatting, and a Meadows property manager/worker yelled at us from across the parking lot, maybe 40 yards away, asking who we were. Thinking he had mental issues or a salesman, we kept walking. He then approached and harassed us, screaming about how we were trespassing, continuing verbal abuse and harassment and followed us until we left the property. We talked quietly, did not approach anyone, hang door tags, play music, or toss trash. We didn't go into the center apartment area. We're both computer professionals. This employee could have gotten on his golf cart and quietly told us sorry we cannot walk thru his parking lot and to kindly exit the premises. Instead, he chose to yell threateningly across a parking lot and come after us with verbal abuse. A good way to judge apartment management is how they treat visitors. Because as residents, you're going to get more of that - or worse. Stay away from this complex.

Lived in meadows apartment for a year and it was great! The greenery and all the beautiful trees…read moremade the complex feel like a little forest. Meadows is very safe and it's also in a good location - it is right off of Central expressway and it's close to 237 and 101. Apartment was spacious as well. I also thought the gym was great and bigger than a lot of other apartment gyms so amenities as good here. There is a community pool as well. The management company was very responsive with service requests. We had an issue where the central AC was spewing out dead bugs so the maintenance team quickly came in and gave us a new AC. Meadows also hosts some events every couple months (coffee station, Easter egg hunt, food trucks, etc.) which made the apartment complex feel more like a community. One of the drawbacks about this complex is the lack of natural light in the some of the apartments. Because of all the tall redwood trees and the direction of our apartment, we didn't get much light. For the most part, we had our lamps turned on all the time. And because of the trees, leaves would fall into our balcony so we had to frequently clean that up. We decided to leave once the lease was up as we found a place with more natural light closer to our offices and meadows was going to increase the rent by $250 a month. If it wasn't for the light situation, probably would have continued to stay here. Overall I enjoyed living here, and if you are ok with less natural light or you are able to get an apartment facing the right direction, then I recommend!

Each apartment has its own enclosed patio area. The property is quiet, never any issues with noise at random hours of the night. The apartment inside has a surprising little combo plate of comfy carpet upstairs and wood flooring downstairs. The property is across the street from a shopping center with a Safeway, Starbucks, a few restaurants, bank, gas station, and urgent care. Can you imagine a 5 minute walk to go grocery shopping? Yeah, its pretty great. If you hop in the car, Costco, In n Out, and Krispy Kreme are a 5 minute drive. In the mood for a burrito bowl at Chipotol? Great, 5 minutes away. Got a hankering for spam musubi at L&L? 5 minutes. Best Buy got that new Nintendo Switch game for you on hold? 5 minutes. You get it. Last but not least, the property manager, Aldin. He's great. There really isn't another way to put it. He's on top of everything, he's friendly and down to chat when you see him around, and it makes you wonder if we can clone the guy so every property can have an Aldin. (We can't...can we?) Nice maintenance staff, pretty grounds, and clean pool. Pretty quiet, walls of concrete. Elevator issues but felt safe and happy to live here. Wish I could have stayed, but I was transferred to San Francisco area. Palo Alto and this neighborhood are a perfect little bubble of comfort and convenience. When the whole world is going crazy, everything feels just fine here. Not so much as you get closer to the city. People aren't as nice and a lot a sketchy stuff is all around you. Even the unsheltered in Silicon Vally have RVs. It;s a special place!

My favorite part of this apartment (one of the tallest buildings in Palo Alto) were the incredible views of the mountains and greenery from my apartment (see photo). Additionally, the pool area/courtyard with blooming flowers, well-landscaped trees, and swinging hammocks was a relaxing oasis especially during COVID-19. The lush lobby has a Stockwell vending machine, luxury-style seating and calming wall waterfall. Lastly, Cathy at the front desk is always friendly, helpful, and warm, contributing to a great homey environment. Catalina and Marlon also do a great job maintaining and improving Tan Plaza. This apartment complex is a great biking (or driving) distance from campus and conveniently located close to San Antonio Shopping Center (Trader Joes, Target, etc). Additionally, Briones Park across the street and Arastradero Preserve and various walking trails were easily accessible as well. In addition to the secured parking area, overnight street parking on Clemo and/or Arastradero is also free and easy. There are a few minor inconveniences with slow elevators and occasional water shut-offs but these didn't bother me much.
