    Lobster bisque
    larry b.

I really wanted to like this place but the moment you walk into the bar, not the restaurant at the front door. You're confronted by very loud voices. It's almost deafening. Once into the restaurant it doesn't get a lot better. It's still very loud. I really don't understand the decor with picture frames on the wall without anything in them. The other parts of the decor are really poorly done nautical pieces inside of frames. It doesn't make a lot of sense it is a steakhouse after all my steak was undercooked and sent back to the kitchen to be redone. It didn't have much flavor and it was quite grizzly. The lobster bisque was lukewarm not cold or hot so it's like they didn't know which one to go with the carrot cake was topped with pecans, but be careful with this one because there are pecan shells in there that I almost broke a tooth on not a good experience as you can imagine so I probably won't be back

The Hamshire is hands down one of the best dining experiences in downtown Covington. From the moment you walk in, the service is five-star: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling over the top. The food? Incredible. The steak tartare is a must-try. Perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. The steak eggrolls are absolutely addictive and such a fun, elevated twist. And the duck... truly the best I've ever had. Cooked perfectly with amazing flavor! I'm still thinking about it. Their brunch is probably the best I've had in downtown Covington. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. Portions are generous, and the prices feel more than fair for the quality you're getting. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers amazing food, great portions, and top-tier service, The Hamshire is it. Can't recommend it enough!

The ambiance was beautiful--perfectly blending Southern class with a modern touch. It was a little cold inside, but nothing a jacket can't fix. The bathroom décor was also really cute. The service was just okay. Our entrées took a long time to come out, and when the steak finally arrived, it was overcooked. After sending it back, the wait for the remake was also long, and there wasn't much acknowledgment of the inconvenience. The food was hit or miss. The steak eggrolls and grilled Caesar were amazing, but by the time the corrected steak came out, our mac and cheese and toppings were cold. Overall, it was okay, but not somewhere I'm rushing back to.

We wanted to try this with my husband's two siblings and their spouses. They don't clearly advertise they open at 4 pm for happy hour. We got there before 5, the signs at the front door advise opening hours of 5 pm. We walked in because the door was ajar, and the hostess and bartender both warmly greeted and welcomed us in. We loved the bar and the drink service we received. The six of us were seated in the dining room. We had reservations for 5:15 pm. The server advised that we needed to put our dinner order in at the same time as our appetizer orders. When questioned why, she advised that is their policy. Felt like we were on a cruise ship. My husband and I both had their filets. They were perfectly cooked, however, the heavy salt content was overwhelming. When we commented to our guests, they advised the sous- chef came from Pardo's. Which made perfect sense to us because we went one time to Pardo's and never returned due to the heavy salt content on their dishes, which we did advise the waiter. When a gentleman at Hampshire asked how we liked our meal, we did speak up and advise about the way too heavy over salting. He said he would talk to the chef. Even our side of spinach was heavily over salted. The restaurant seating and the bar are very attractive.

We really enjoyed this place! To start, we both got a cocktail, and they brought out complimentary cornbread with a lemon butter. It was great and a nice southern touch! I will say we did wait about 20 minutes until the manager came to our table to ask for our drink order. However, they were pretty busy that night and had only been open for a month. For an appetizer, we got the steak egg rolls which were fantastic!! The sauce on it paired well and the steak had great flavor. I got the lemon-caper chicken which was really good and the broccolini was cooked great. The lobster pasta was okay. We think it was a little bland and needed more seasoning. To end the night, we got the snickerdoodle crème brûlée! It had a slight touch of cinnamon and 2 snickerdoodle cookies on the side. Wow!! The restaurant was pretty big, and they had a couple of private rooms which were nice. They had a pretty decent size bar as well as what looks like an oyster bar. We can't wait to try once oyster season hits! Overall, we enjoyed our food. I will say maybe wait a little bit so their servers and employees can adjust and get the hang of things but we can't wait to go back!

If you're looking for a place that actually delivers on flavor, this is it. Every single dish tasted like it was made by someone who truly cares. The chef is very personable and the general manager/owner even stopped by my table to make sure everything was great. On top of that, the service is outstanding. The staff is warm, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. They check in without hovering, know the menu well, and make the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. Between the incredible food and the top-tier service, this restaurant has absolutely earned a spot on my favorites list. I can't wait to come back.

We also had to try the Blueberry 75 since French 75s are my absolute favorite, and it did not disappoint! Our waitress, Jillian, truly took the experience to the next level. We arrived at 5:40pm and told them 7 people and were told about 40 minutes so we sat at the bar and grabbed a few drinks, waited about 40 minutes are were seated.. perfect timing. Now this is where things start to fall apart.. we sat and waited about 5 minutes for someone to show up and take drink orders and I thought should put in appetizers just in case it takes them awhile to return. A few drinks stumbled out and then appetizers came and the a few minutes later more of the drinks.. weird. Finally we ordered our entrees and while waiting finished our appetizers and then no one came and cleared the table, water was empty, drinks were low appetizer plates and appetizers vessels still on table. And wait for it... here come the entrees.. and they are placing them around an already full table.. was there no dishwashers so they didn't want to take plates back to be washed??? I put about 4 plates where my entree should have gone and they pushed the entree plate next to it and I had to ask them o remove the other plates. I feel like this is too long already.. the food? Tasted odd like it had an odd flavor I ordered the Truffle Butter Steak and it was about the size of my hand and cut in strips with onions rings on top and a small bowl of fries... for $35.00. My stunning wife orders the Shrimp fried rice and she was not impressed I tasted it and it was mushy with small shrimp. Oh I liked the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer that is the reason for the two stars. Bill came and I paid for seven of us and looked the bill and it was $381.00 with drinks no one told me the gratuity was one there already and stupid me did not look and gave them another $80.00 on top of the $60.00 on the bill yep $140.00 for horrible service.. and okay food. If you all read my reviews I honestly try to be fair and hope people have off days.. I am regretting having spent nearly $500.00 on this night

The decor from street view of the restaurant is welcoming and yet, once you walk inside it gives you the artsy, modern & sophistication to another world. Fried Oysters and Pork Belly - very good, if you get this make sure you eat them together (that was our "best bite" for that serving). Wedge Salad - one of the best wedge salad's we have had. The blue cheese dressing was creamy (rather than chunky blue cheese). It had crispy shoestring onion strings that almost acted as the croutons. I loved every bite that included lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and bacon. Delmonico Steak - this was probably our overall favorite item. Just a great steak, and large enough for both of us to enjoy. Redfish - this was good, not great. Would probably try something else other than this if we went back. Tchefuncte Potatoes - they almost were like a twice baked potato (flavor wise), but they are super creamy and fluffy and then turned into a lightly fried ball. Good and very unique. Crème Brûlée - if you like crème brûlée then you will enjoy it here. A classic dessert that was delicious. And to top it all off, the ambiance was great.
