This was my first time back to marcello's in a couple of years. My first time there, my impression was "fine dining priced with okay food". I ordered the short ribs and felt it was tender... but dried out. So I hadn't gone back. Well I met friends for a "supper club" we created and my opinion was completely changed. I would give them 5/5 stars now. The best part of the night was great service lead by Ms. Sydney. She understood the menu, gave recommendations and clear explanations of how items were prepared, and was quick with a joke! I literally almost spit my water out laughing at one point!!! The wine selection was amazing and paired well with the entrees ordered. I have to give a disclaimer that, at our table was the person that distributed the liquor.... So he knew what bottles were the ones we had to have with our meals. The mixed drinks were great too. I had an espresso martini, but also tasted my friends's sazeracs and old fashions. All were great! I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came as we ordered several appetizers, drinks, bottles of wine, and dessert! My bill was way less than I anticipated given the amount that we ordered! I'd def come back and I'd probably request being put In Sydney's section! read more

We reserved a table for our anniversary, when we arrived we were promptly seated at a table already set for 2. The atmosphere here is cozy, and romantic, although rather loud when there are even just several tables filled. The service was great throughout our meal. The food was excellent, we started with craft cocktails and wine, and for an app we had the whipped ricotta - yum! For our entrees we went with the braised beef short rib with saffron risotto, and he had the duck cheek. Then ended with a cannoli and house made tiramisu. Everything was well done and delightful! The best Italian on the Northshore, period! The food here is consistently amazing. Everything on the menu is delicious, the wait staff are always gracious and helpful and they have a nice wine selection. My personal favorite is the lasagna and the beef short rib, both one of the best I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. The lasagna is simply incredible and I'm fairly picky about how I like it. It's a perfect balance of fresh pasta, red sauce, meat and cheese, then perfectly baked. The food is a perfect balance between elegant and well presented but not overly pretentious, genuinely well done Italian food . Generally how I feel about the place overall, you don't have to get overly dressed up as cocktail attire or similar is the norm. Reservations at least a week out or more are advised as they usually don't have many options last minute or if you walk in. read more

This place was great!! We loved the moody ambiance of this place. We were 12 people, and they were very accommodating and quick for our party. To start, they brought out complimentary bread. We then ordered the calamari, meatballs, brussel sprouts, and antipasto board. All the appetizers were great, but the brussel sprouts were a hit all around! The balsamic glaze on them was fantastic!! May be the best ones I've ever had! I also got the corn and crab bisque which was good but could have had more seasoning. For my main entree, I got the linguine tritone. The seafood and the sauce was perfect!! Lastly, we got the tiramisu and cheesecake. The tiramisu was to die for! I can't wait to be back to try more! read more

Extremely OK.... Tritone dish was uneventful, no crab , no mushrooms, and a very small portion, all for 36 dollars. The meatball appetizer was very good. Caesar salads were meh. Went for the first time last night. For several months I read all the reviews I could, and had my eyes set on going one day, My excitement turned into disappointment. The service was "meh", demeanor was nice but not engaging and hard to hear. The atmosphere was cozy and quiet so we were able to carry on conversation. The food was not that great. Nothing was memorable and pretty bland. The antipasti board was okay and enjoyable. My entree was the fillet special. The cook of the meat was good but the mash potatoes were instant. Not a fan. For dessert we shared the cheese cake which was not great, more like cheap store bought. The dessert drinks were good. I had the brown sugar espresso martini. The place overall wasn't bad, but I think there are better Italian restaurants in the area that I'd rather go to. read more

This place is a gem in the heart of Covington. Sometimes can be hard to get a table on weekends, so reservations are recommended. The service is always great and the atmosphere is casual and comfy. The pork cheek Marsala, chicken parm, and short ribs are my go to entrees. I have tried all of the apps and they seriously good. I hade a soup last night that was like a mushroom cream soup and it was fantastic. Give this place a try. read more

We use to go all the time they had a great happy hour 1/2 off glass of wine and appetizers 1/2 off! But unfortunately those days are gone. We would order appetizers and wine and dinner. I've been here before and it was pretty good then I was very disappointed with my veal dish tonight not only that the tomato sauce had very little flavor and no seasoning. Unfortunately the cheesecake was a letdown. Also they have very good service and it's a beautiful little place I just hope they improve their food. read more

Classy little place with the most interesting twist. They don't have a wine list. You order your food, then you go to the "wine wall" and peruse the racks until you find what you want. Very fun. Last night was out first time at Marcellos in that normally we would go to Del Porto's. In many ways the experience at Marcello's was just as good and perhaps in some ways even a bit more pleasant. As a couple, the noise level is such that it is easy to talk with each other, and the background music is very nice. The bottles of wine is quite unique in that you literally visit the wine rack and select your wine from a pretty wide selection. The Italian wines selection tends to be more at the higher price range for the selection they carry, but overall it is a broad range. The monthly specials are a good selection, and the standard menu was very good. Our server was knowledgeable and paced our orders well. The fried brussell sprouts were an excellent starter. One of us enjoyed the homemade Mama's lasagna which was very nice. We also ordered the seafood fettucine special which was also very nice. The fettucine itself did not taste homemade which was a bit of a disappointment, but the sauce and the assortment of seafood was very good. Although homemade pasta makes such a huge difference in terms of absorbing the sauce. We would certainly go back given the ambience, the service, and the food. read more

What a wonderful hidden gem! Had a girls' Christmas dinner here last night and couldn't have asked for a better place to dine. Reservations were very easy to make, as we only had 4 in our party. A truly special dining experience: admittedly we've always loved the feel of this restaurant and have always had good meals, but this week's dinner was exceptional. Can't say enough about Chris, our server; he was very attentive, knowledgeable, personable, and downright likeable. We sat at a 2-person high top that gave the feel of a private dining room. I selected a wonderful moderately priced Valpolicella Ripasso, which Chris lightly chilled. He and his kitchen staff were very attentive to my wife's dietary limitations and prepared beautifully seared sea scallops over sautéed spinach for her. I ordered the fish of the day, initially announced as triple tail but changed to tuna after they were sold out of triple tail. I love both, so not to worry. My tuna was cooked perfectly rare, served with a delicious lemon caper mushroom sauce and especially flavorful asparagus. We began with a Caprese salad, which was an ideal first course. We had reservations... ordered drinks appetizers, everyone ordered entrées, more drinks, and dessert. We had signed our checks and we're just getting ready to leave when the waitress came over and informed us that we need to leave. Someone was waiting on our table .....in my 30 years dining in the Mandeville/ Covington area I have never been treated so rudely it's not like we had homesteaded at the table considering what we had ordered and the amount the check ended up being almost $275 for three people. I should've picked the check back up and scratched out the tip after being treated the way we were but I didn't. I'm not gonna go back to this place and I'm going to tell everyone I know how I was treated including my 3600 friends on Facebook. read more

We absolutely love Marcellos!! Our first time here was when they were Macs on Boston. We were saddened when they closed down, but even more impressed with the reopening and new menu with Marcello's. Everything was wonderful from start to finish! We started out with calamari and ended with tiramisu. The wife got the trio seafood pasta and she ate every bite (she never does that) and I got the pork cheek Marsala(the sauce was amazing and pork was very tender) I highly recommend. Spent my wife's Birthday dinner here tonight as a first time visitor and we were both so impressed with the service and quality of food. Our waitress found the wine we were looking for (a valpolicella) which they thought was gone but they found one more bottle! We started with the meatball appetizer with broccoli- might sound a little strange but it was delicious! We both chose Italian comfort food - braised short rib with risotto and Pork cheek Marsala with Parmesan polenta. That's the Holy cow/pig part. It was simply delicious - and amazing at the same time. Before I get in to the food part let me start by saying if you or another person in your party is in a wheelchair you'll find it difficult to navigate entry. The parking lot is gravel and the night we went it had rained so the ruts and holes were filled with water making it even more precarious. The ramp is steep but thankfully there are rails making it easier. The tables are small for a four top especially given one was in a wheelchair. The ambiance is nice typical old New Orleans style wooden home so small-ish rooms. The food was just average. I had the chicken Molli and it was advertised with lemon butter sauce and artichokes. The sauce had no taste and the artichokes were hard and spikey. Salads are extra and we got a grand total of 4 small pieces of bread. The Brussels sprouts were scorched but the crabmeat appetizer was tasty...best thing of the night. The bright shining star was the service. Our waiter was attentive and polite so in spite of a mediocre dining experience we tipped him generously. I'd hesitate to go back but every place can have a bad night so I'd say try it and form your own conclusions but if you're in a wheelchair be prepared! read more

Highly recommend this place. Very romantic and date-y. We ate a late Anniversary dinner at 8:30...we were sat immediately. It's small so call a few days ahead for reservations. We couldn't get a reservation so that's why we went late to avoid a long wait. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan and eggplant Parmesan. Both were excellent! Large wine selection, you go pick your bottle from the wall and/or chiller. Very cool. My only complaint is they don't have really good bread, but that's not enough reason to dock it a whole star. :) read more
