Wow. I wasn't expecting this to be as fun as it was. Definitely have to go with the right group and have a good DJ. My group checked all the boxes. We started early on a Saturday...around noon. We were celebrating birthdays, but it was also prom. I thought it was too early to start drinking, but we quickly adapted. Our driver, Marcus, was very cool and helped us get amped up to PEDAL! We took a mini tour of the city and made a couple stops including the circle. We opted for the first class package which includes 3 drinks, our own table back at the Hangar, and a discount on food. The only negative were the drink options included. They were great if you are a beer drinker. I chose from the mom waters and they were nasty. Luckily, I brought my own drink. The food at the Hangar was pretty good. I chose a chicken quesadilla, but they also had wings, pizza, and nachos. A golf simulator is also included will you chill, eat, and sip. Our group had a great time on our pedal bar tour with HandleBar Indy! We loved that there was the option to rent by bike seat instead of the whole bike as we had a smaller group. Communication from the company regarding safety, filling out the waiver in advance and what to expect was very clear and timely. While each bike seat is expensive, the overall experience is well worth the money! The driver was great at balancing the two groups that were on our bike. The bike stops at two bars and one photo opportunity during the tour. Each group was able to have some say in picking these locations. The driver stays informed about which bars are open throughout the night. There was a private event at a bar our bike was interested in and the driver was able to quickly recommend options and navigate to a different bar. Ample parking is available in a lot right next to the HandleBar building. The location is also a quick 10 minute walk to several restaurants if you are looking to grab a bite to eat before or after your tour. I would recommend creating a playlist for the tour as someone on the bike will be able to play music using the driver's aux cord. Don't forget to bring cash to tip your driver at the end of the tour! Early fall is the perfect time of year for a pedal bar tour. We had great weather right at sunset and loved seeing the city from our bike! read more

From start to finish, this was an amazing experience! When I initially made the reservations, we thought we might have a couple of extra people (over 16), Marcus worked with me to help find solutions. Prior to our date, we continued to receive updates and information... the best part was that if we had questions, all we had to do was text! Two days before our reservation, I received an email regarding the NEW HANGAR BAR that is now part of The Handlebar. They were opening the weekend of our tour and offered us a VIP package! I immediately RSVP'd and they set us up for an hour before our tour! We arrived a little early, but they quickly seated us! They had a variety of beer on tap and delicious mixed drinks! We ordered 5 brick oven pizzas (probably a little aggressive )! Sweet Baby Cheesus (all cheese with a perfect crust), Sausage (basic, but perfect-the sausage was great quality), The Danger Zone (my favorite... sausage, pepperoni, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes and a drizzle of hot (slightly spicy) honey! It was PERFECT! I was nervous about the honey, so I ordered it on the side... but I quickly changed my tune and drizzled it over the entire pizza). Handlebarbq (WOW... as soon as this came out everyone reached over and started picking the pickles off to enjoy! This pizza had bbq sauce, grilled chicken, red onion and of course pickle chips... a crowd favorite for sure!). The timing worked out perfect and when we finished our pizza, we settled up our tabs and headed to the bike! Our "driver" was AMAZING! He interacted well with our entire group! I secretly loved it when he called out my husband for not being on top of his bartending game... lol! He danced with us (at red lights, of course) and genuinely seemed to have a great time! He was accommodating with our stops and kept us on a good schedule! As we pulled back in to finish our tour, I found myself feeling sad to be done! Today, I received so many compliments and comments from our group... most of them said that this was their favorite Indy experience of all time! Unfortunately I was a direct witness to one of your drivers doing something extremely unsafe and completely unprofessional in traffic, then laughing about it when he was confronted. Your driver put both his passengers and mine at risk. That isn't fun, that isn't having a good time, that's just unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. Your driver intentionally cut off a carriage horse and then stopped suddenly, causing the horse to slip while trying to stop short, then laughed about it and encouraged his passengers to do the same. Your driver was joking and laughing as he did it, hence it being done intentionally. This behavior is completely uncalled for and dangerous. We are all trying to operate safely downtown, and this needs to be addressed. UPDATE: I was contacted almost immediately by the owner of the company, who apologized for the incident, agreed that it was unsafe and unprofessional, and addressed the issue with the driver. Additionally, he assured me that all drivers would be instructed on safe operation around carriage horses. I appreciate the quick response and resolution! read more

Best customer service I have EVER experienced, anywhere! We booked ahead as non-private and showed up late by accident and they went out of their way to make sure we still got the experience and took us on a private excursion. On top of that, multiple times they offered to comp us on the cost, book another excursion comped, or comp us on food at Hangar. Since the upgrade from non-private to the private experience was more than enough, we politely declined, but we're so impressed with how above and beyond they went (especially when the fault was actually Ours for being late). Our driver was Marcus aka VIP and he made the experience better than any of us could have imagined for our bachelorette party! I went into this not knowing what to expect exactly, and being the designated sober driver, but we had more fun than I could have anticipated and would recommend this to any group in a heartbeat! HandleBar Indy started a new food tour pedal bar yesterday and my boyfriend and I got to try it out! This was my first pedal bar experience and I really loved it! For the food tour, we stopped at 4 different places. At each of the restaurants, the driver goes inside to pick up the food and brings it back to the pedal bar. First was St. Elmo's for their famous shrimp cocktail. Next, we stopped at Taxman Brewing for a pork tenderloin sandwich & fries. The next stop was my favorite- corn empanadas at Livery. The final stop was at monument circle where we had red velvet cupcakes from The Flying Cupcake. We all got off the pedal bar and the driver took pictures for us. The food tour provided a surprisingly large amount of food and we were all pretty full when we left. I definitely recommend the new food tour experience! read more

If you can be at a bar without alcohol and have the time of your life - you know it's one helluva bar. As is the case with The Handle Bar. I experienced this exciting new addition to the Indy drinking scene (on wheels) during my month of zero booze. And when I say I had a good time, I mean we were planning our next go around less than an hour into the two-hour ride. The passenger biking bar was shipped in from Amsterdam which is fairly evident via the Dutch undertones in the woodwork and German words engraved overhead. I believe physical exercise while drinking is the perfect way to pull off the best of both worlds all in one perfect bundle. And if that isn't enough, the excellent built-in music system with Ipod/phone connectivity will serve as the cherry on top - bring on the Girl Talk, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent and Ashanti ladies and gents. Alcohol rules: You can't hop off while the bike is in motion. Beer and wine only and no glass is allowed on the bar. Food is welcome and several stops will be made along the way if you wish to purchase drinks or food at some of Indy's prime-ly located bars and eateries. Add this to your Indy bucket list! You're on a bike, with your friends, with the beverage of your choice, in a BEAUTIFUL city. What more could you want?? Make sure you fill the bike and reserve it in advance so that you get the best experience and don't have to petal as hard! You will go by Monument Circle, down Mass Ave, and in Fountain Square- aka, all the coolest places. Our driver (mostly just the guy who steered the bike) had us get off in Monument Circle for some cool photo opps and stopped at any bar we wanted along the way. We did Handlebar as a surprise for one of our friends, so our driver let us hide the bike in a nearby garage and drive out, surprising her. I love the handlebar concept, I've ridden many times before and will go back as much as time and funds allow. You can pick up your handlebar just outside of what used to tow yard brewing. Then your waiver is checked and you hop on the bar, ps don't pull up by the cup holders because they will pop out, and you get an important safety talk. Essentially don't jump off the handlebar, don't lean back.. Just don't get crazy and try and be a responsible adult. Then you get a lovely tour of Indy! As you peddle to different bars from an area of your choosing. It's great because you can also listen to music as you peddle along! Usually, the first stop is on the circle for a big group photo, and then you start the trip to different bars. Whats nice is you usually get about 10-15 min in each bar and then you get back on, and can continue the beverage consumption from your own cooler! This is an awesome thing to do with a group of friends when the weather is nice! read more

Sunday Funday is real with the HandleBar! I got to take some friends courtesy of Garden Party Hard Soda. We had pretty perfect weather! Make sure you sign the electronic waiver prior to arrival on the day of your tour. It just helps things go quicker. No hard alcohol, no glass (except at stops), and no jerks allowed makes for a pretty smooth ride. We did have part of the group stay too long and get a little too inebriated at our last stop, but our driver handled it well, and we were on our way. People on the back bench who can actually pedal - give your co-riders a break when you can. You are dead weight so you should think of yourselves as such if you aren't otherwise physically impaired. This thing is large and actually takes a big effort to keep going, especially from a dead stop. I totally plan on bringing a big group back for a fun, slightly rowdy tour! That way, if they act up, (likely won't), but then we can call them out on it easily! The HandleBar is such a good time. Some of the people we passed on the street were getting into the groove as we passed too. I think weekends are good as traffic isn't too bad for the most part. Be sure to check the Lucas Oil & Bankers Life schedules. Parking to the north of Tow Yard is pretty cheap, but it can vary. Get a group together and go! read more

We did a tour for a bachelorette party 3 weeks ago and had an absolute blast with Lucas! What makes the Handlebar unique are the people working. Joel and Sawyer are such fantastic people and really care about the company, your experience, and Indy. I can ride my bike with no handlebars...but it turns out an actual bar is way cooler than that. Even though it was raining the whole time, we had a blast. It was great to be able to bring our own coolers and the hosts were phenomenal. My, oh my was this party on wheels fun! As I was riding along, I couldn't help but to think of when I could get back on the bar again. The owner was very kind, and easy going and allowed us to bring plenty of snacks on the ride. You can also bring a good size cooler (the ones that hold like 70 cans) on board. Very accommodating! If you are out of shape like me, brace yourself. Your bum will be sore the next day as a friendly reminder that a little exercise here and there wouldn't hurt. On our particular outing we were on the bike for about two hours total. Have no fear, you do take breaks. We typically rode for about 20 mins at a time with a ten minute break at a bar, or Yogalatte. On our ride we ventured from Fletcher Place, to Georgia Street, to the circle, Mass Ave and back. It was a great ride because you hit the best/ most active parts of downtown and people love watching and figuring out just what it is that you are sitting on! I thought that spoke volumes (and also that they wanted to make some money, hehehe). I got together a great group of friends and we had a blast riding around the city. We packed our own coolers of snacks and beverages. It's BYOB which is awesome. I know some people thing it's pretty expensive to pay $300 to pedal and drink but I thought it was well worth the money for the experience. Our steerer was loads of fun too. It seemed like he enjoyed our group and how much fun we were having. We made stops along the way to HotBox Pizza, monument circle, Bakersfied, Chatterbox, and even a friends home before making our way back to headquarters (where you start and finish). I loved it, I definitely want to do it again, just wished I thought of starting the business first. read more

We showed up in Fountain Square not knowing what to expect, except it's BYOB and you sign your life, rights, and other bodily functions away from this hay wagon bar with pedals and a non-bartender 'driver'... What I found out is that this is the most interactive way to get a street side tour of Downtown Indy while sipping beer with friends, enjoying the beautiful seasonal nights, and burning those malty calories. I had a blast, we stopped at the Circle Monument, Mass Ave, and one other place before completing our drunkard-powered downtown loop on Virginia Ave. This is a great amenity for a really active downtown area. The streak of perfect ratings for the HandleBar is over! :) I did enjoy the ride for the novelty of it. The guy that steered the HandleBar couldn't have been nicer. It has a stereo system that can hook up to someone's phone if they have Spotify or another music service. My main complaint is that I only pedaled for an hour (I was on a non-pedaling seat for the first hour) and my legs were hurtin' at the end. It was a 50 degree night and I was really sweaty. I wasn't expecting so much work during a social outing when everyone was drinking. I'm in decent shape too; I run 3 miles a couple of times a week. My main complaint might be with my fellow passengers. One of our friends on the HandleBar refused to pedal, which probably made the ride harder for the rest of us. The HandleBar was fun. I just thought it was too much work for what was supposed to be a casual social get-together. I recommend doing it with athletic, dependable friends that you can count on to pedal the entire time. :) read more

I absolutely loved the Handle Bar. I organized a group of friends to do this for my birthday. We decided to rent on Sunday since it was $100 cheaper. It can hold up to 16 people. We only had 15 people, but it was perfect. Another person would have crowded the "bartender" or the back seat. One important thing to keep in mind is that people under 5'3" are going to have a hard time pedaling, so make sure you have some tall people in your group. Also, the seats are pretty uncomfortable - so be prepared to have a sore booty. It's nice that you can bring your own drinks and coolers, but if you don't drink beer, wine or ciders, you'll have a hard time finding something to drink (no glass allowed on board except at stops and no liquor allowed). Overall, awesome experience. 4/5 stars due to challenge of short people pedaling and uncomfortable seats. read more
