I absolutely loved the Handle Bar. I organized a group of friends to do this for my birthday. We decided to rent on Sunday since it was $100 cheaper. It can hold up to 16 people. We only had 15 people, but it was perfect. Another person would have crowded the "bartender" or the back seat. One important thing to keep in mind is that people under 5'3" are going to have a hard time pedaling, so make sure you have some tall people in your group. Also, the seats are pretty uncomfortable - so be prepared to have a sore booty. It's nice that you can bring your own drinks and coolers, but if you don't drink beer, wine or ciders, you'll have a hard time finding something to drink (no glass allowed on board except at stops and no liquor allowed). Overall, awesome experience. 4/5 stars due to challenge of short people pedaling and uncomfortable seats. read more

The obsession is real!!!! What is there to say that hasn't already been said? Did Handle Bar for a friend's birthday on a hot summer night and still had a blast. The mix of the heat and the alcohol led to the demise of 99% of us, but hey, it was a night to remember (forget). The thing I like most is that the experience is totally customizable. You tell the "handler" where you want to go and you get to go there. We went to Kilroy's and stopped at a couple bars on Mass Ave on our trip. The night flew by! Highly recommend this thing to anyone looking for a unique way to celebrate something or just have a fun night. I know you know, but its beer and wine only while on the bike, and no glass bottles or containers. Some may complain about this, but none of us were hurting for any alcohol. Plus, if you want hard liquor, order that when you make your stops. Definitely stop for a photo op on the Circle too. I think my favorite thing about the experience was seeing how happy the Handle Bar made everyone - people in cars honked and waved, people on the street laughed at the sight of all of us pedaling (struggling). This is definitely a fun activity to do with friends, family, coworkers, etc. it's definitely changed since I tried it the first time. I went a few years ago and each stop was a bar, so we really really enjoyed ourselves ha. My second time, 2 of the 4 stops were at the circle then the WWII monument. Not that it wasn't interesting, it seemed kind disrespectful drinking at the war monument, and when we were there it was Memorial Day weekend so all the flags were up. I felt kind of uncomfortable. I like the fact we do get to bring our own drinks and peddle and drink, wish we stopped at more bars like we did my first go around. But it's still fun! Hopefully they rethink the WWII monument, but besides that it's reasonably priced a fun afternoon. Parking wise was also different than my first time. We met at a bar instead of where they launch the handlebars. Wish they were more specific on where to park or where you can park. Some of us paid for parking and others didn't. Kind of all over the place regarding parking. But once again, very fun and I suggest trying it out! read more

Where do I begin?! We took a tour around Indy on a bar on wheels. Could it possibly get any better? It happened to rain the entire length of our trip, but it did not make the experience any less exciting. We drank, laughed, listened to music and most importantly...pedaled ourselves along the streets of Indianapolis. The looks people gave us along the way were priceless. It was as if their eyes were saying, "Ah, I'm so jealous!" and "Why have I not done that before?!" So the bike experience lasted around 2 hours, but don't worry - they are more than willing to make bar/bathroom stops along the way. For example, we stopped along Mass Ave and walked around for a bit before hopping back on the bike of wonder. Affordable? Yes, it is! With all of the seats filled, it comes out to be about $25 per person. The owners are incredibly friendly and chat along the way. You're able to have your own music selection, so you have the freedom to jam to anything from JT to the Spice Girls (just a few faves of mine.) With the HandleBar originating in Amsterdam, I'm so very thankful that it has now made its grand appearance in Indianapolis. read more

We started off rolling through downtown to Louies where we had a great brunch, though longer than expected, and finished up by riding through downtown for a final hour! Its raining.... Its pouring.... And I am riding down Georgia Street on a bar on wheels! Rain or shine the handlebar is a fantastic time! There is nothing like it! Pedaling away while you sip on some wine or chug a beer! If you are able to fill the bar it comes out to be about $25 a person which is a heck of a deal! As a group we decided to pedal most of the time but they were more than happy to make pit stops at local bars along the way. My favorite part was the reaction of people on the street! Everyone was taken aback by our unusual activity and people were taking pictures and asking questions. If you have a large group of friends that want to do this, its a great time, the only downside is that it is pricey and you still must provide your own alcohol. My only recommendation for the owners would be to offer a "reserve a seat" option, not just a "reserve the whole bike" option. I would personally love to do this more often during the summer, but struggle to get my friends to do it with me. You can only have cans and plastic bottles on the bike...which isn't a problem if you stop by Sun King for some fresh cans on your way to your bike appointment. I went for a ride on the HandleBar late in October as a team building exercise with some of my colleagues. The driver was great and even suggested several common stops/routes so that we could get off and go into bars to have a group drink/shot. My team at work commonly discusses our experience, and we often talk about doing it again in the spring. About 2 weeks before Christmas I got a Christmas card in the mail from one of the owners. Handwritten, custom HandleBar Christmas Card thanking me for using them and wishing me happy holidays. That kind of customer service goes far in my book. read more

If you haven't done The Handlebar yet, you are missing out! This is a must-do in Indy! As you can see from all of the other reviews, it is clearly a favorite activity in Indianapolis. So, I am going to break down the top 5 reasons why I loved it: 1. Our driver/guide was extremely nice and down-to-earth. He was very flexible with our last-minute stops (aka stopping suddenly at Monument Circle to take a group photo or at Mass Ave to take a bathroom stop) 2. You get to travel to all of the fun places located in Indy, such as Monument Circle, Mass Ave and more! 3. There is an aux cord where you can jam to your own music 4. Everyone walking on the streets/driving in their cars look at you with complete envy because they can see how much fun you're having! 5. And for all of you non-21 year olds, don't fret! You can actually be 18+ to ride it. Tip/Reminder: You bring your own drinks and it cannot be glass! Be sure to bring cups. I want to do this again ASAP- especially with the nicer weather coming this summer. read more

What an incredible experience! I got to take my first HandleBar in the Circle City Indy Pride with the Yelp Indy Elite crew, and I couldn't have had a better time! I was always so envious of everyone that would pedal by while I was just drinking at a bar or working or walking by. I now understand why this is so much fun. You get to be your own DJ, BYOB, and get to rally the city through the streets while drinking and enjoying times! The handlebar is one of the most awesome things to hit Indy in the past few months. The concept itself is so perfect for a city like Indy which has multiple watering holes that are good but not very well connected through a public transportation system, sidewalks or ease of availability of taxis. As far is saying something new about this experience is concerned there was probably nothing as everyone who has been on it has had a great time along with great service. couple of pointers are that they play your playlists if you have a mp3 player/ phone. they can stow your handbags on a shelf on the top. also, you can bring plastic glasses on board for beer and wine. just get together a group of friends and give it a try, you will not be disappointed and be ready to PEDALLL!!!!! read more

I know there are several five star reviews, but I'm going to go with only three stars. I have two complaints and then I'll tell you what I enjoyed about our adventure. We took a two hour tour on a weeknight with 16 in our group. Nearly every person in our group complained about the seats on the "bike". They are way too small, and while they are padded, are incredibly uncomfortable. And yes, even the skinny people in our group complained about them. The seats should be bigger and wider somehow. At the end of the night, I almost needed a crowbar to get my underwear out of my ass.... But here's my big complaint. They don't allow hard liquor. I emailed them to ask why and they said because in the past, people have gotten drunk and unruly on hard liquor. Here's a news flash for you: You can get drunk and stupid on beer and wine too. I suppose if someone gets drunk on beer and gets out of line, they'll ban that too. Now it's only wine. If someone gets stupid on wine, I guess we're down to only ice water. Don't punish EVERYONE for what a few people do. I don't like beer or wine so when I drink, it's usually a rum drink of some kind. But they told me if I brought rum, they would charge the credit card used to reserve the ride a $100 fee. Nice, huh? I ended up just bringing a wine cooler in a plastic bottle. Ok, enough of the bad stuff, here's the good stuff. We had a blast. This is a great idea to get a bunch of friends together and take a quick tour of downtown. We stopped on the circle for pictures and cruised up Mass Ave. It really was a lot of fun. It was a very nice evening with mild temps and low humidity so it was a perfect night for it. Overall, I highly recommend doing this with your friends. Oh, and pick your friends wisely. We had one guy that refused to peddle. We were making jokes about it to keep the mood light, but some of us were really getting pissed at him. But other than that, it was a blast. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to win a Facebook contest from the Handlebar for a free ride, tailgate, and tickets to the Pacers game this past Sunday. When my original buddy backed out due to Easter plans, my Dad stepped in as my right hand man. Steve, one of the owners, was our driver and guide for the tour. The group was a hodgepodge of contest winners, but we all got to know each other quickly. Alcohol helps with that. While our tour was abbreviated in order to have a proper grill out and tailgate, we still got to cruise through most of downtown, including stops at Ralston Draft House and Kilroy's. We ducked into Ralstons for a shot and some pretzels, and then I split a Long Island with some friends at Kilroy's. Combining that with all that biking, and boy was it a long afternoon! As soon as I heard about this, I had to go! My gal pal Stacy got a group of random friends together (couples date day downtown) and we all paid her our $25/pp in advance for the 2 hour tour around the city. Rain or shine it said and it rained ....and we still had a blast. I didn't pedal (too short and too lazy) but it was a lot of fun to ride (on the back and the side). We brought our own beers and blasted an Ipod full of ridiculous tunes as we pedaled through the city on a busy Saturday afternoon. For all of those cars who got stuck behind us, we're sorry but come on! It was fun to watch us ride, right? It's a bar on wheels....but there are rules. Alcohol cannot leave the bike, no serving beers to pedestrians (aka - not a "real" bar that way) and stay on time or there's a late fee. We managed to follow the rules, have a great time and no one threw up from drinking and riding. That's a score in my book. We made two "pit" stops - one on Mass and one on Meridian to urinate and take a shot. Then we continued on the ride, switching seats and making new friends along the way. This is great for groups of any kind - you do not have to drink but it does make it a little more fun with a buzz. This bike is ridiculous and awesome at the same time. You don't have to be super active or in great shape (after all, there are 10 riders) but if you don't want to be outside they say to stay at home. And there are no rainchecks for bad weather (even snow) so don't get whiny if the sun isn't out. We rode in partial downpour and it was even more fun than I thought it would be! I am considering this as an option for a birthday party outing, girls' night out, the list goes on for who would enjoy this little bit of rowdy fun! Everyone seemed to really get a kick of out it and for those of us who have lived in Indy a long time, it's nice to see something new and different enter the area with a bit of creative energy that can be enjoyed while consuming alcohol or not. read more

I've been dying to do the handlbar, and I really did love it! This is such a great opportunity for fun outings. I went with a friend and her work group. It was wonderful! Kinda warm and we were sweaty, but I try to stay active, so I was happy to peddle some alcohol calories off. And my booty was sore the next day, but not horrible. We were fairly tired at the end, so we were definitely going slower. It definitely was a struggle for some shorter people. Bring beer and snacks! There is room for bags, coolers, etc. it was fun to wave at people on the street as we passed. This would be fun for any occasion. read more

The HandleBar drivers are proof to me that chivalry is not dead. On Saturday night I was with a bachelorette party and Joel was our driver. I have a disability and my feet won't stay on bike pedals on their own, so I sat on the bench on the end of the bike. One girl suggested I try one of the pedal-less seats on the side for a different view, and getting off the seat proved more difficult than getting on. Joel solved that problem by asking me, "Can I carry you?" He then lifted me off the seat and put me safely on the ground. This gesture made my night. Thank you, Joel! And sorry that most of the girls wanted to be carried by the end of the night... I guess that makes us trendsetters. ;-) read more

Even though it was 60 degrees, windy, and pouring rain, I had the time of my life! This was my first time riding the HandleBar, and I did it with my whole pledge class of sorority sisters (almost 40 girls). We had so much fun getting to hang out all together and enjoy biking around downtown Indy! 2 hours was the perfect amount of time, and the route was great. I will definitely be booking another tour with The HandleBar in the future! read more

We had the BEST time! If you can request a driver, ask for Joel. He made our experience even better. During our two hour ride, we made a few stops: Monument Circle (group photo!), Crown Liquors (we severely underestimated how much our group of 15 could drink), MacNiven's, Sun King, etc. You can completely customize your route with guidance from your driver. I made a playlist on my phone ahead of time and hooked it up with a headphone jack. Super nice since I could control it from my seat (instead of having to let it play up away from my reach). Designate a bartender that is somewhat flexible (you have to crawl up and under to get to the middle) before you arrive, so everyone knows the plan. I chose to bring snacks, and I think that was a good call. There isn't much space on the "table" area, but you can make it work during stops. There are cup holders, but nothing to help with bumps. We had Indy 500 open cups and straws, but lids would be great for my next ride. Don't forget to wear shoes with backs on them so you don't lose them while pedaling down a busy street! Coolers of just about any size will work (they'll go in the middle) and there will be storage above your seats for purses, etc., too. Cheers! read more

Bar on wheels with no worry for a DUI? It is Absolutely the right solution when you want get together somewhere 'different' with a huge group of friends, or to celebrate a birthday or other fun event. For me, it was one of those outings that I could justify throwing caution to the wind and having all the beer/wine and snacks I wanted...well, because surely I was going to work all those calories off. It's something I can't do the other nights of the week when I'm catching up on DVR so let me continue to live in the dream world where pedaling while drinking is a neutral calorie proposition. We had one of the owners as our DD and he was great, accommodating our tunes, banter and shenanigans. The rules are clear--no hopping off while the 'bike' is moving and no glass. The Handlebar drew lots of attention and all of it friendly--we were waved it, pictures were taken and people wanted to know "how to do that too". I'm pretty sure the only ones less impressed with the Handlebar might have been the drivers of those cars behind us at stoplights--but I think they were just jealous they were stuck, beverage free in some boring old ride. Will definitely do again--2 hours is the perfect amount of time to prevent you from losing enthusiasm and still leaves your evening open for other plans should you carry on... Two thumbs up for the Handlebar! Makes me wish I had more hands. read more

We rented this for a birthday party and it was a great time! Brian was our pilot and is a great guy. Would be a really fun way to do a bar crawl. Be ready to pedal, it is a heavy vehicle. But you can hook up your iPhone for some tunes. Of course it's byob, so you can have as much fun as you'd like. Best to bring cans, but if you have bottles they have some solo cups. What a FUN time! We had a friend with a birthday. She chose to celebrate it by having a few of her close friends come on The HandleBar. Now, what I will say is that I was surprised that there is NO alcohol for purchase. But you did get to stock the bar your own drinks. They also have room in the bar for a keg if that's how you roll. I would HIGHLY suggest making sure you dont bring any glass. Pick a rider who is going to be the bartender before. So about the trip: Our trip was about 2 hours with a plan to bar hop, so we can get some drinks this way. However, the time goes so fast, we didn't get into any bars. We did bring drinks of our own, which made our time fun. This is NOT an experience for the lazy. Oh no, no, no! Make sure to take your friends that are going to petal! That bar is heavy and for it to move, you need some committed petal people. You also will need to make sure your iPhone or cell as some good music on it so you can connect it to the bar. We have our rap/R&B music set on high, yelling the lyrics the whole time. We had a FEW stops...LOL...because we got tired. On the breaks, we took pictures, went to the circle's fountain, got cupcakes (pedalling makes you hungry!). Overall, I had a good time. I felt our attendant was nice and made sure we were safe. He also told his a little about the business model, which was cool to hear. I would also suggest not doing too much pre-partying before, but AFTER. Why? 1) you won't get much pedaling done 2) you may have that tipsy friend who touches a passing car or do something crazy that would break the law / The HandleBar rules. We did the HandleBar with a group of volunteers on our week off from volunteering and it was the perfect activity to enjoy each other's company but still be doing something active. We all brought our own drinks and our driver (Donovan) was great about checking on us and making sure we were always filled up!
