I was in the home buying process and I wanted to make some minor improvements in the home I was buying before I move in. So I requested quotes from several contractors thru Yelp. The HandyGuys were the first to respond and ended being the most competitive contractor. During the process, I spoke with John and James, who are both very helpful and straightforward. John was flexible with meeting my timeline and understood the limits of my budget. I initially planned on having The HandyGuys for only a painting job, but the more I spoke with John about my project, I learned of his crew's capability to refurbish the flooring in some of the rooms in the house that was hidden under disgusting carpet. I decided to award both painting and flooring jobs to The HandyGuys and I am VERY glad I did. For both jobs, the HandyGuys were more affordable. I quoted 2 other flooring contractors and 3 other painters. While pricing played a key role in my decision, quality was equally important. For the painting job, I had selected a color but quickly realized it wasn't a good choice. So James helped me out tremendously with color selection in order to execute my vision. Although it took 2 trips to the store, James was very patient, respectful and insightful. Furthermore, James made sure I was happy with the color. Thanks James! I contacted John about replacing 9 interior doors in my older house. He and James looked over the job and were able to fit it in the following week. We decided that they would be replacing the door slabs and trim. With an old house, you never know what the difficulties will be. With my house, it was the existing door hinges. They met the challenge with determination and a great attitude. They finished the job on schedule and for the price quoted. They even helped out with the trim on 2 other doors that I had replaced earlier. The doors look great and more importantly open and close smoothly and securely. They sent someone to see the bathroom before writing up the estimate (see attached) to install "wet walls" with a window kit. ($1,375.00) I did not purchase these walls until I solidified someone to do it. Weirdly, a worker shows up the end of April, to do what, I have no idea, nor were we expecting him. They knew we were waiting on new windows to be delivered. COVID is why they were delayed, and I email John May 5th telling him they were being installed the next week, and for him to pick 2 days to do this job. No response for a week, so I called and got a switchboard operator who was in another state. She contacted him to tell him I am trying to get a date. I asked for "the first week of June," 2 days. Going away June 7-10th, so he picks June 8, skipping the 9th, returning on June 10th? WOW! I can't get 2 days in a row with the person who watched the Flexstone videos? My bathroom is still in the cardboard, leaning against the garage wall. Not professional, not reliable (even with an accepted written estimate) and they are unresponsive to emails and reading comprehension is 0. VERY DISAPPOINTED that I'm now stuck with Flexstone wet walls, nobody to install them, plus I'm handicapped, so no way I can muddle through this DIY job. Anyone out there know anyone competent with a jig saw? Handy men aren't reliable and who knows how much they know? Home Depot should have a list of installers for this kit. read more

I had a very good experience with The Handy Guys. I found Handy Guys on Yelp and was very impressed that they already had 10 5-star reviews. I had looked a few other sites like Thumbtack, etc. to hire a handyman to come out to my place to help me finish a list of large and small household chores that I needed done. I had a few people reach out to me on other sites but I was very hesitant because 1. I had no way to verify that any of these men or women coming out to my private home had passed any background check and 2. If it was safe to allow any old stranger into my place. Even thought The Handy Guys were more expensive, I was very convinced by my experience with them was worth every penny. Being able to avoid stress makes their prices actually reasonable! And the old saying "You get what you pay for" is true with The Handy Guys. First, getting a quote was very easy. I sent an email right from their Yelp page and within an hour, I had a phone call conversation and an appointment booked within the next few days. The fact that they were able to accommodate a quick turnaround time was impressive. I got a text message alert when a quote for the job was emailed to me, when the technician was on his way, and when the invoice for the finished job was sent to my email inbox. Mike B. arrived not only on time but a little bit early. He was very pleasant and professional. He arrived in a marked van and with The Handy Man shirt on. I had no qualms of having him in my home. He came prepared with the list I had emailed for the quote and I showed him around the house to the various things that needed to be done. Mike was efficient and a lot of fun to converse with as we completed the list of chores. Coat racks and shelves installed, a/c units removed, drained and stored, etc. Mike was proficient in all the tasks and had all the necessary tools on hand in his truck. Mike is a bit of a tool fanatic so he will show off all his cool gadgets that will make you think about going to Home Depot to acquire some new tools for yourself. I also consulted him on a few other projects I wanted to do and he gave me thorough advice on how to complete the projects and the list of supplies I would need to do so. Mike B. and The Handy Men really helped in making my recent move that much easier in helping with large and heavy projects that needed two people or needed someone with more expertise and tools than I have at this time. We thought we had mold in our walls, and I immediately got a response from John when I reached out on Yelp. James came the next day and was AWESOME. He determined that we didn't have mold and didn't have to completely tear down the walls. (Phew!) And then he patched the walls up, and they look great with just the patching. (He also patched some spots in our ceilings AND caulked our sink.) The price was completely reasonable (considering that he spent about 5 hours at our house), and everything felt completely aboveboard. This is the worst experience ever. My daughter needed a small job done and we were having trouble finding someone because the job was so small. They sent a guy. 90 minutes late, without the right saws. So he pieces it together and it looks like garbage. It is worse than a DYI job. I could have done it myself but didn't want it to look like this! They didn't even offer to send someone with the correct tools or have someone bring the right tools over. Just shred the board until it fits. That's not okay. So I went to my daughter's the next day and he didn't even use pressure treated wood. We have a contractor coming tomorrow to undo this work and redo it correctly. Never again..... read more

I strugged to find someone willing to clean my gutters. Dirty job that just doesnt seem worth it to most companies. Would frequently get blown off or calls unreturned. I found the handy guys off all the great reviews. They answered the phone right away gave me an instant quote based off the square footage and scheduled me out two days. The handy guys showed up on time cleaned the gutters and down spouts and took before and after pictures. I hired handy man to mount tv on the wall. The owner i spoke to John is very nice, but needs to hire better and more dependable people. The guy Mike Kelly showed up was upset claimed that he didn't know about this job. Then stated he had a 3 o'clock appointment and left. He also didn't want to wear a mask during pandemic. I am only giving 3 stars because the owner is responsive and tried to make things right.
