I have tried this place a few times and the bar portion is good, great music but the restaurant has terrible food. It is under seasoned and unimagined, I understand being authentic Irish but the food in Ireland was not this bland. The curry sauce is pretty good, needs a little kick, but so much else just needs a touch of salt and pepper. Bottom line the beer is cold the music is good but the food needs lots of help. read more

This place hit the spot. A friendly atmosphere with down to earth staff. What's not to love?! Now let's talk about the food. I tried the morell mushrooms which were on the appetizer portion of the menu. They were on point. I recommend them and I'm not a fan of mushrooms. I also tried the famous burger which lived up to its name. Super delicious. My boyfriend tried the Ruben sandwich and it was also very good. The corned beef is a must to try. Very good Irish dishes. I had the chicken pot pie. It was the best cpp I have ever had. The pastry top was as light as a feather. The menus had many Irish style comfort foods. Amazing food!! I love the full Irish experience...from the music to the food, and even the staff! It creates a truly authentic Irish experience. If you haven't been here to try the Shepherd's Pie, you have no idea what you are missing out on. It truly is "to die for!" The Harp is an Irish bar that if your not Irish when you walk in, you are a wan't to be Irish when you leave. Basically the food is second to none cause apparently the chefs know how to put a smile on the dinners face with fantastic cuisine. From the Irish BLT, to the fries and curry sauce,to the awesome burger, to the crab dip/pita chips, to the ultimate steak dinner. All dishes were food to brag about. The bartenders made me feel at home, and the beers on tap were very agreeable from Harp to Guinness, to Yuengling. All of the patrons were extremely friendly as well as all of the staff. I guess I got lucky cause at 2:00 pm on Saturday approx. 12 to 15 musicians came in and played Irish music with various instruments till around 4:00 pm. It was a total blast for me from start to finish, and I can't remember when I had a better time. All in all, my 3 days I spent in Wilmington, I visited The Harp 6 times. Had lunches and dinners and beers galore. Excellent food, great staff and patrons. Almost forgot, the prices at Harps do not break the bank. I can't wait to go back and do everything again!!!!! read more

Wow! What a great Reuben! They make their own corn beef in house and you can tell the difference. This is a friendly fun bar with all the Irish favorites. Lots of draft beers on tap. I'm looking forward to trying some other of the menu choices! read more

The Harp has ended my quest for a traditional Irish pub! Absolutely incredible and authentic food with a nice laidback vibe. We shared the wings (Guinness and Garlic Parm) and they were crispy, meaty and came out nice and hot! They were out of turkey, so we were a little disappointed about not being able to try that Turkey Reuben. So, we decided to split the Fish Sandwich and the Blackened chicken sandwich. Both were incredible! The tartar sauce is homemade and absolutely delicious! The fish was flaky, crispy, and just a little greasy-not even a bit soggy! If you get their hand cut chips, ask for a side of curry sauce. It will change your life. Not sure what the bartenders name was, but she was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. This place is a must-try! I can't wait to come back and try their Shepherds Pie, Chicken Pot Pie and that Brie En Croute! read more

Food was ok and that's the only reason I gave them 2 stars. This is not the first time I've been there but this is the first time I didn't enjoy myself. We just came from having lunch at The Harp. It was a wonderful experience. The soda bread was outstanding. We both had the turkey club and it was great. Turkey was thinly sliced which is just the way we like it. Service was attentive also. The music playing was great. We should have asked the name of the CD we liked it so much. I've had a few great experiences here already, going solo and with a group.....Beginning with drinks they of course have a nice beer selection (Guinness, Harp, some locals) and full bar. I won't think about food at a real Irish place without a Guinness and Irish Whiskey for lubrication. Onto the food...Starters were all way above average for crab dip, crab mushrooms and my favorite the Lax. For meals, you can't go wrong if you get the traditional Corned Beef (they cure it in house over a week!) and Potatoes or Shepherds Pie. Both were top notch....Tikka Masala was decent. Still need to try the fish and chips and a few others but they obviously have a determination for quality, tasty food. One of the owners came over and introduced herself and she just was brimming with enthusiasm about the choices on the menu and the atmosphere they have created....great addition to downtown (sort of) dining scene. I found a newspaper that was advertising this place. I dropped in this morning before starting my work shift. I was greeted by an overly busy server who was nice but very to the point- which is completely excusable in my opinion. I sat at a table close to the bar area. I ordered water to start, then started to review the menu. I was very disappointed by what I saw. It was a menu that one would see at Denny's or waffle house- pancakes, hash browns, eggs, grits etc. I was seriously confused. I get this is the South and in the south grits is just normal. But they are a restaurant that has fine authentic Irish food in their name. No Irish, no wanna be Irish food to be found. I finally got around to ordering- I asked if they had an Irish breakfast. The server stated they did but wasn't on the menu. I get the meal, they seriously lack quality, or I am seriously used to eating better food. The eggs were bland and flavorless, the tomato was average, no beans, the blood pudding was even bland, I tried a bite of the soda bread- also bland. The thing that makes the Irish breakfast so special isn't that it is gourmet or hard to make but simple quality ingredients which was so sorely missed on this occasion. Meanwhile, as I am consuming my meal, an employee and manger ( co-owner??) I don't know but they both had some connection to this place in more ways than being a regular customer. I could over hear every word, It is sad that at 8am in the morning I felt like I was in a bar. Every other word was "F' this or SOB that. I am not a goodie goodie by any means but really sitting there at 8am trying to enjoy what was left of my meal and hearing this type of conversation was highly unprofessional. If they were employees or had connection to the restaurant, I feel bad for the server that was working hard to have all of the tables worked. I waited for a bit to get my check- maybe they could have gotten down from their cussing soap box and I don't know actually done something to help benefit the restaurant. I will not be going back here ever again. If you wanna feel like you are in a dive bar with sub par food then all means this is your place. But I doubt anyone wants that experience. I was craving shepherd's pie and a Guinness, so I decided to give the Harp a try. This was my first time going there and my first impression pulling into the parking lot was it looked a little run down. When I walked in it was a nicer on the inside, kind of your typical Irish bar decor. I sat at the bar and ordered the chips and house made curry sauce as an appetizer and the shepherd's pie, and a Guinness of course. I wasn't impressed with the chips and curry sauce. The curry sauce seemed bland to me and it came out so hot that it had a hard layer of skin on it. I added some hot sauce to it and it tasted better. However, the shepherd's pie was pretty good, not the best I ever had, but good. The bartender was pretty friendly and she checked to make sure I liked the food and she was diligent about keeping the Guinness flowing. Overall, I won't be running back to the Harp, but I would go back, especially for the shep's pie. read more

My family and I went to The Harp for Mother's Day. It was one of the only brunch buffets I could find in town. The service was excellent and our bloody mary's from the bartender were perfect! Everyone who ordered from the menu had beautifully prepared plates and not one complaint. The buffet did not disappoint either. It was basic meats, eggs, and breads but there was a variety of each: bacon, three different kinds of sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits, waffles, pancakes, gravy, grits, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The dessert on the buffet was to die for as well. The chef was refreshing the buffet when I reached for the peanut butter brownie which she informed me was made with COFFEE! Yum! There was a raspberry cream cake and some kind of banana dessert that would have tempted me had I not eaten two peanut butter coffee brownies and a raspberry cream cake on top of everything else already! Needless to say, the whole family LOVED this place and a few of them have been back already! read more

I have been to the Harp on several occasions. I'm sad to say that this isn't because I like it. In fact, until recently, I simply "tolerated it" because it is close to where I live. It has redeeming qualities. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is good, and it's convenient to the downtown area without the hassle of downtown crowds/parking. They have good drink specials most days and decent prices for food. The regulars are nice people. The homemade desserts are to die for. Unfortunately, poor service trumps all the above. The staff is rude, slow, inept, and often too busy socializing with friends to provide good service. Even at that, I would still give the Harp 2 or 3 stars. The 1-star rating is all about the lack of professionalism at this establishment, primarily from the owners. An example: My boyfriend was craving corned beef, so we went to the Harp. Nearby, the owner's wife was at a table with about 10 of her friends. Something happened and next we knew, she and a waitress were screaming at each other (very audibly) in the kitchen. The waitress dramatically left the restaurant crying, leaving one waitress, who was obviously new, on her own. Even though she was clearly flustered and overwhelmed, the owner's wife spent the next half-hour intentionally embarrassing and insulting the girl; it was like she was putting on some sort of warped show for her friends. Appalled, my boyfriend left the girl a huge tip and a note apologizing for the woman's behavior...then we left without finishing our meal. That is one of many examples I or my friends have witnessed. The owner also frequently scolds his employees and insults them ("worthless bitches") in front of patrons. It is incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional. The environment feels chaotic and unwelcoming when the owners are present...almost like being the kids stuck in the same room where mom and dad are fighting. Seriously. They have full-blown fights in the restaurant, he drinks so much that he passes out at the bar, and she gossips about employees in front of patrons/other employees. Another disappointingly frequent occurrence: I have heard the owner(s) and bartenders voice discriminatory opinions very loudly in front of patrons. During my final trip to the Harp, I listened to a conversation between the owner, a bartender, and that bartender's boyfriend which was full of vulgar language (I'm no prude, but this was excessive), racist statements (i.e., "If a woman f*cks a n*gger; she's spoiled goods") and homophobic comments ("F*ggots...are the same [as any other animal with bad genes], you put them down.") Let's just say that no matter how good the food and drinks are, the Harp has left a nasty taste in my mouth. I won't be back because I won't support a business that is run by such crass, belligerent, and overall offensive individuals. **NOTE: I would be amiss to generalize poor service to the entire staff. Marissa (maybe Melissa?)...whatever her name, she is quick, makes good drinks, pours Guinness flawlessly, and makes you laugh while doing it. She's an exceptional bartender and exception to the service rating. Also, I am unfamiliar with the morning and daytime waiters/waitresses, so I do not apply my assessment to those individuals. read more

Disgusted. My husband and I hav been faithful customers over a month....last night was the aboslute worst. No one greeted us, and the owner, after alerting her we had not been waited on, attempted to wait on us....someone else brought our food and we were totally ignored while the owners sat at the bar, having beverages with customres, not caring what happened. The food has gotten smaller, and less flavorful. We were big fans of this restuarant and now it will be some time before I even attempt to go in again. We saw many other customers ignored. There were only 2 wait staff on the floor and it was so obviously they were stretched to the limits with no help in sight. So sad, we loved the Harp, but food was so bad, nothing like the quality we got once they first opened and I was embarassed I recommended the restaurant to so many others....hopefully they will pull it together before it gets run into the ground, because this area needs a success. read more

Went here July 7 for karaoke. About 15 minutes after asking the bartender to close out my tab I signal to her and she says "did I not give you your receipt?" I said "no." she then begins to look in all of the other tab holders sitting into front of other patrons at the bar, she looks on the ground, she looks by the register then comes back and tells me she can't find my card. She assures me she rang it up the bill (gee thanks) but the card slipped out. She then proceeds to tell me I will have to wait till everyone left after 2am when they close to get it back. It is 11 PM at this time. I was so angry, I left my number so they could call me back letting me know they found the card. Some TEN DAYS later I have yet to get a call back with my card. I have no access to cash until my bank sends a new one. I also was foolishly waiting till the end of the night to fill my car with the gas I needed to get back home, so yea I can't recommend this place at all. read more

While it's tough to overcome the somewhat shady location, they've done a nice job on the interior and seem to always be busy with a seemingly quality clientele. My wife, our infant daughter & I went on 4/14 @ 7p. There were about 5 open tables. One was cleaned off for us, and as we were being sat, I asked for a high chair, only to be told they didn't have high chairs...only booster seats. Our little girl isn't ready for a booster seat, and none of us would have been happy if we had to hold her during the entire dining experience. So, we had to leave. I've never been to a restaurant that didn't have a high chair, and honestly it kind of offended me that they wouldn't consider it a necessary accessory. We were excited about trying this newer establishment, but until it can accommodate all of us, we'll have to pass. The main review says kid friendly. I'd say this may be true, but only for those kids old enough to be in a booster or beyond. Harp-let us know when you get some high chairs and we'll give you another try. read more

WONDERFUL! the food at the Harp was absolutely with out a doubt the best home cooked Irish food I have ever had. Other than in Ireland of course. The cuisine was very eclectic and has a five star rating on all its dishes. I've had quite a few dishes but my favorites are these, the muscles in curry sauce with soda bread is my favorite appetizer, my favorite main course is the Corned Beef and cabbage of course! Its absolutely delicious! The desert there is truly exquisite and the Irish coffee is tastefully complimented with a touch of Baileys! I love going to the Harp if i could i would eat there every night, the prices are not bad at all, if you want quality food then you've found your place, its a very clean environment, and the service is great too, it feels like family there, the owner Val always greets customers with a warm smile and shows that he cares about his business. Last but not least the coolest thing of all is that on the weekend sometimes they have live Irish bands! Who can ask for more? Pints of Guinness and live music! Thanks to THE HARP! read more
