This really is as good as it gets when it comes to BBQ. It starts with the wonderful aroma of the food cooking as you approach the main door, then as you enter you step back in time to what looks like an old 1800's saloon bar. The menu is varied, but not too overcrowded, making choosing simple, yet still catering for various tastes and palettes. Some items are limited, such as the Burnt Ends, due to the time it takes to smoke and cook. If they're available I would highly recommend getting. So tender and flavourful. There's a good selection of craft beers, as well as a few non-alcoholic options to drink. We were seated pretty quickly, and service was fast, friendly and attentive. We never felt an urge to be rushed. Although I suspect in peak season this place will be extremely busy and crowded, so would strongly suggest making a reservation before showing up. read more

We came to Kelowna with high hopes, made our reservation through OpenTable, and arrived excited for BBQ, drinks, and a little hospitality. Instead, we received the VIP "You Don't Exist" experience. No warm welcome. Menus dropped on the table. No one offered drinks. Ten minutes went by while we watched a group that arrived after us get served. At first, we thought, Maybe they're just having a busy night. Then we thought... Apparently, we're the busy part they're trying to avoid. We wondered whether race had anything to do with it. I sincerely hope not. But when you're sitting there watching others being acknowledged while you're repeatedly overlooked, it's hard not to question it. We eventually left without ordering. So I can't tell you whether the BBQ was good--which may actually be the best part of the evening. At least we saved ourselves the bill. We tried to get into this place as reservations must be made if you want to eat between 5 and 7. The first time we weee unsuccessful so we change nights and got the time slot we wanted. Now this is like a place in Oakatoks Alberta. It is a barbecue place with all kinds of meats. We weee seated promptly and had the option of outside or in. We chose in as we felt it would be a bit cooler as we had been out all day. Now the food. We ordered 2 sets of wings. One plain and one barbecue. They were not the best. I would say anywhere else they would be better. I had the brisket plate with coleslaw and potato salad. There were only 2 pieces of brisket. For the price I expected more. The coleslaw was good. The potato salad was the first tine I couldn't finish it. It was not the amount it was the taste. It seemed that there was horseradish added to it. The horseradish was so overpowering it just tasted awful. The cornbread that was ordered was boring. I like it a bit crunchy and this was just plain and not very favourable. The last was a plate of full rack of St. Louis ribs, Mac and cheese. The ribs were plenty but the smaller version. Mac and cheese was underwhelming and the corn bread. Wild west (saloon) themed BBQ and brewery place in W Kelowna, located in the middle of a bunch of fields. Definitely a fitting location. Parking is available in the gravel lot next to the building. I must say they did a freaking amazing job on the building. The inside can easily pass for a museum or movie set. I had to ask the staff. The building is actually brand new. No, it's not an old coverted barn. The venue has nice high ceilings, and has a mezzanine and outdoor patio. Staff are friendly and chatty. Beer selection is pretty decent. Mostly ales. Flights come with a cup of beer nuts, which is nice. They have a full on BBQ selection here. I didn't try, but the food looked and smelled pretty awesome. Hatching Post is a Cowboy Western-themed restaurant that offers a variety of BBQ dishes. I visited this place several times. I was so captivated by their ambiance and menu. We ordered Locally made sausages, cornbread, pulled pork, and smoked yam potatoes. The cornbread was served with butter and tasted good. The smoked yam potatoes had a strong flavor with spicy sauce, were well-roasted, and had a delicious smoky taste. The pulled pork was very decent; I ordered a small portion, but it was still quite large. The sausage was a bit on the salty side, but it paired well with the honey mustard sauce--delicious! All of the dishes paired well with beer, and I thoroughly enjoyed having them together. Overall, I always enjoy the food at this restaurant. They sell their own craft beer as well as custom-designed beer glasses and mugs. I picked up a few on my last visit. I highly recommend this place! read more

My family and I stopped in to the The Hatching Post after some winter wine tasting. We were very hungry and my little brother loves BBQ! This place did not disappoint. The building is decorated with cool western signs and looks like an old fashion saloon. The indoors is equally as fun and has a stunning chandelier hanging above the main dinning area. We ordered the meat sweats, a round of beers and a bunch of sides including potato salad, baked beans and mac & cheese. The burnt ends were delicious! The service was great. We mosied on down to West Kelowna's newest brewery, the Hatching Post, and had a great experience. On the outside, the building is framed with reclaimed wood and outfitted with lots of western signage. Entering, we were brought back in time to the 19th century, with its saloon decor, bison head mount on the wall and a stunning chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Our party of 5 ordered the meat sweats- a selection of sausage, pork ribs, smoked brisket, pulled pork, and smoked chicken. On the side, came 4 slices of wonder bread, pickled veggies and lots of bbq sauce. We all shared in the feast, loving the smoke flavor of the meats, and in particular, the pork ribs which were mouthwatering and fell off the bone. We ordered sides of coleslaw and potato salad which was good but portions were small and not necessarily enough for our group. . Our party also ordered beers and ciders though next time we look forward to trying the beer flights they offered. This place is an amazing little bbq gem. They are a brand new business to west Kelowna. The food is amazing, their family style is great, the meats are perfectly cooked and delicious. The burnt ends are fantastic (we got the pork belly burnt ends) the local sausage is delicious. The Mac & Cheese has great flavor, perfectly seasoned and oh so cheesy! The baked beans are like a classic with some heat, tons of flavor and are delicious. We got the house special carrot cake. HIGHLY SUGGESTED! They call themselves a Texas bbq spot. I'm sorry to say as a former Texan they are way off. They just serve what ever brisket they want rather than asking lean or regular. There sauces are more KC style really thin not thick like Texas sauce. The beans were sub par as was the Mac and cheese both with are staples to Texas bbq. First off I would just like to say that all the reviews on here saying anything negative could not have been more different from the experience we had. The beer was good we had the Lime Ranger and the southern belle. The food was delicious and the best bbq I've had while in Canada, this is coming from someone from the heart of the south in the states so I don't hand out that compliment lightly. The service was wonderful start to finish Tyler was very knowledgeable of the menu and the area, he pointed us to several different places we should try in the short time left we have here. Finally the restaurant atmosphere was great with a wonderful view out the back in the outdoor seating area. They really nailed the saloon vibe here. Will definitely be back on my next trip here. Server took 10 mins to come to our table while she chatted with employees (we were the only 2 people in the entire restaurant). Burnt ends were dipped in about 5 pounds of sauce and were no big deal . The sandwich also had copious of amounts of salty sauce on it . The server said maybe 5 words to us in 1 hour . Had the pulled pork mac & cheese, and BBQ wings. Nothing special there, as a matter of fact, the mac & cheese was not very good. As for the wings, you they are smoked not fried (which is why I tried them), and you get to choose between BBQ, hot, or plain. Wings were ok, you can get much better wings elsewhere in the Okanagan. My wife does not drink beer, she likes wine and the price that they charge for a glass of wine is ridiculous, especially since the server told us the they were associated with two wineries and a cidery. Also the selection of wine is limited to one, red, rose, bubbly, or white. Service was ok and the ambiance was the best part of the visit. We have been a few times but this will be our last visit as we feel that it is not worth the money for what you get. read more

Authentic Texas BBQ north of the 49th. Leave it to some Hustonians to check out West Kelowna BBQ and pleasantly surprised. We went almost the full boat with brisket, pulled pork, ribs, Mac and cheese, potato salad, slaw and cornbread. The BBQ was authentic to Texas focused on the rub and smoke. The pork was good but could have had a bit better bark. The ribs were just a bit too spicy which detracted from the smoke. The local sausage was very nice but the star of the meats was the brisket, moist, great bark and smoke. Yes, I've had better back home but I have also had a lot worse. As for the sides, the mac and cheese was unique and a big hit. The coleslaw was also very good. The potato salad was a bit flat and needed a little more kick. Also was very impressed with the two bbq sauces we tried, the regular and the Carolina. Both were authentic and complemented the meats. Also loved the setting and adherence to Texas type joints. Communal tables outside, old style saloon inside, nothing fru fru, grab a drink, order up some grub and out it comes on a tray and paper, really felt like home. We had a reservation and were called by the restaurant about 40 minutes before to be told their system was down and could only accept cash or etransfers, which was ok with us. We were seated and we ordered our food and beverages, then were told they had no brisket or pulled pork, which is why we were there. We questioned why they neglected to let us know why they did not explain this in the phone call, they seemed dumb founded. After talking to other people I know in this area they said it seemed to happen more than once. The establishment has been around over a year and seems not to have improved. We could have chicken & sausages. Ok, but we're not paying full price. Then we see the table next to us who were out of town visitors with reservations told there was no food for them. They were clearly upset & left. "Manager" was clearly inept - should have offered them something - gift card - anything! We felt terrible for them as they were there before us! What's the point of having a res? Who decides the amount of meat to smoke on a long wkend? Anyway, got our bill - they charged more not less,- we corrected that and should have taken a pic of the bill. Wonder if they are claiming any of the cash deals?! I actually enjoyed the food (but I like chicken) and the young waitress was great but this place needs management training asap!! We arrived around 11:05 and there were already two tables seated. We ordered drinks as we were told that we needed to wait for the ordering counter to open at 11:30 to order our food. We went with the flight of the day. The ESB was my favourite of the four. The counter ended up opening around 11:45 which was no biggie, but in that time every table in the place was seated and you could tell that there has been some buzz around this place so we were keen to get our snacks. We went with the cornbread, ribs, brisket, and jalapeño poppers. For sauces we picked the Alabama white and the regular bbq. The cornbread was fine, but the maple butter was what made it delicious! I would take that home by the pound. The brisket was my partners favourite - half a pound came with 3 strips. The ribs were mine - came with 6 bones the jalapeño poppers come with 5 and there are fairly large and also delicious! I like my poppers with a lil more cream cheese bite, but these let the pulled pork and smokey bacon shine. I wasn't a big fan of the regular bbq. Just not my kinda sauce and the Alabama white was good. It was almost like a bbq ranch. I prefer spicy/honey bbq types sauce so I'll try different ones next time, but that's a personal preference thing.
