I'm sorry... what?! No, I did NOT have all 6. But are you kidding me with those prices? And when I say "tall" I mean some of the most generous pours I've seen in a long time. And I used to bartend (and make my own drinks, ha!) Secondly, as I mentioned, this place is a glorious mixing pot of all, and it's frickin' awesome. I feel like that's something that's missing from a lot of bars and nightclubs in this area. Everyone was cheering for the Cavs, chatting it up--just a warm, inviting atmosphere. I relented once I realized my mistake. I moved away, as the man requested, despite literally zero direct dialogue. We went here on a stop over in Cleveland. It was a quiet Thursday night. The bartender Parker was very rude and indifferent to us. I would not suggest this place to any travelers. Maybe it is a local place that only caters to local patrons but as an out of town visitor I recommend finding somewhere else to have drinks! read more

I was just at this bar the other day and found out from a reliable source that the owner knows of the problem but refuses to close down and solve the bed bug problem! Do NOT go here. My daughter went on Jan. 21st. She was there from 8:30 until 10:27, when she ordered her 2nd drink- she does not remember anything until waking up the next morning in her own bed. She is 45 and very responsible, and has never done ANY illegal drugs. She was DRUGGED and ROBBED !!! The owner and manager were contacted and have failed to investigate or respond. The reviews are correct the drinks are strong. That's the only highlight.The bartender was too busy chatting with regulars to tend bar. Nonetheless less, I tipped $2 for 1 drink. I love the Hawk. I kind of accidentally came upon it after moving here. The atmosphere is nice, people talk to one another. It's void of any pretension or snobbiness. There is a pool table, which I'm bad at, but love trying. And there's a (small) patio out back, which I wish was bigger, but it holds enough if you try. Always down to go here. read more

my favorite gay bar EVER. I love that it's called the Tomahawk Cafe, because it is most certainly not a cafe. You will get the strongest drink you've ever had here. Trust me. Went with a couple friends on Saturday. I should have known it was a gay bar, by the florescent rainbow in the window. Not really one for gay bars because I am a straight female. But once inside, I was surrounded by nothing but compliments of how beautiful I was. Lol! The drinks were inexpensive and good, and the people were nothing but smiley faces. This is the epitome of a gay dive bar. If you just want to have a fun and cheap time while fighting over who gets to play the jukebox next (haha!), then this is the place for you! Me and my friends frequent this place often, and it is a great place to people watch because of all the interesting characters that swing through here! For a "drive" bar, I really like The Hawk. The drinks are cheap and strong and you never feel bothered or uncomfortable. One tip I will give, is be careful when you go, Friday and Saturday nights are beyond busy and I have had to wait for up to 40 minutes to get a drink. Plus, the Friday and Saturday night bartenders are always rude and play favorites of who they service. My favorite two bartenders/bar back duo would be Stephen and Troy. They are both awesome, friendly and always have a good story to tell. read more

The worst bar I have been to in Cleveland! I have been 3 times: 1. warm overpriced beer. I was told they are known for their heavy liquor pours 2. ordered a vodka soda, bartender poured all soda and put his finger over the spout when pouring the liquor. a friend was there and tasted the drink... thank god for friends, he went to the bar has got the manager who made a new drink 3. went at 1am had one drink, on the way out the people in front me opened the door, there was drag queen sitting at the bar, the door came close to her and she flung it back, it almost his the person in front of me. I was able to stop it and opened the door back up (mind you this is the main entrance and exit) the drag queen flung the door back hitting me. I said "ouch, what the fuck" and the security guard then said I saw you open the door (duhh, i was leaving) then hit me in the head and pushed me out. A few seconds later another guy tried to get in the bar, the door was unlocked (yes it was close to closing) the security guard pushed him out and slammed the door in his face. They guy did nothing wrong. look, I am 45 years old, I own two bushiness, I had had three drinks over 4 hours that evening, I also used to own a bar.... this is disgraceful behavior at this bar! read more

Lots of fun. Local neighborhood bar that is very small and cramped however it adds to the friendly feel. Visited on a Friday and Saturday and both nights was packed. Drinks are affordable and stiff. I walked in and was met with an overwhelming smell of floor polish to the extent of making me almost sick to my stomach. I was immediately met by the bartender and asked to take my temperature with a rushed ARE YOU READY? And I said I guess sure, and he scanned my forehead, probably didn't get a reading and asked what I wanted and spoke very clearly and had to repeat. I was presented with my drink and handed my card and he said "were cash only right now." 1. Why would you be cash only especially during covid & 2. That doesn't make sense. He told me I could use an atm in the back of the bar that probably hadn't been wiped down since 1812 and I only planned on having 1 drink as i was on my way back to my hotel. Only stopped to see what the bar was like since I'm visiting out of town. I didn't want to have to pull out money for a $4 drink and charged an atm fee. I ended up just leaving and going home. Things could've been handled differently, sure. But staff should be courteous and more helpful to their clientele. read more

This bar is a great down to earth place to stop and have a drink. Most people are blue collar regulars and are friendly and welcoming. The crowd is mixed and features all colors, sexual orientations, and incomes. Everyone blends together very pleasantly. This is a shot and a beer joint. Don't come here expecting to order a pink squirrel and sashay around a dance floor. It's bare bones decor, but nicely decorated around holidays. The neighborhood is a bit seedy but use some common sense and carry a sidearm and you'll be fine. Prices are very reasonable. Drinks are strong. It's a gay bar but you wouldn't know it when you walk in. It looks like any other bar in Cleveland. The difference is the people, they're down to earth and friendly. If you're a snob and have the habit of looking down your nose at everyone else, you might want to try twist, as this is not a fashion or model event, although sometimes a young fashionista scarf model may prance into the hawk. read more

This is a hole in the wall-dive bar. This area of Cleveland is very dangerous! Keep this in mind if you are from out of town-go in groups. Parking is along the street (very limited) is only for a couple of cars and then you must park on the side streets and I got asked for money from several people from the bus stop on Detroit Ave outside the bar. Once I got in the bar the restrooms are very dirty and the piss smell comes into the bar. The drinks are very strong and very cheaply priced. This place is for the town drunk that likes to sit and drink all day. The crowd here is lower middle class so do not expect a quality conversations here if you are a business professional stopping in after work for happy hour. I went one day in a suit and tie after work and was looked at like I was from outer space when I walked in. This is a very seedy bar that caters to that type of crowd-welfare and under/employed Clevelanders. Did I mention on the way out of the bar I had a gentlemen follow me out asking for money for the bus and then when I said no he asked me for a ride home since he did not have bus fair- when I said no a second time he said he would preform a sexual favor for me if I give him the money.
