Liz is not just a massage therapist, she is a bodywork fairy. When you get there, you sit across from her first and she looks and you and your posture and asks you questions about what you're feeling and what you want or need, so she knows what she wants to go for in your session. I am a writer and had been having some numbness in one typing hand, so I asked if she could give me some kind of massage that would help. Well, she didn't just give me some regular ol' massage. She did all this focused muscle and nerve work from my neck, shoulders, arms down through my fingers. And by the time I got home and sat at my keyboard, my hand was like a brand new limb, working perfectly again. Like, I wanted to shout all church-style "I've been healed!" Really. If you have ANYTHING you that has been bothering you specifically -- an injury, an old pain, a new pain, a pregnancy, stress neck, back whatevers -- Liz is your girl. She also does amazing regular relaxing massages too, which is what I usually go in for. I think of it like an oil change, my regular body/muscle maintenance. I did a few sessions of ROLFing with her too. Which is all to say that overall, the healing she is able to do with her knowledge is beyond. She seriously just knows everything. I can give you my opinion on each type of massage, but I'll keep this review succinct. Recently when my usual therapist was unavailable, I went to see Nova, and I can say that she is one of the best therapists out there! Nova has a firm strength and gentle spirit. She understands the muscular body as well as alignment. In combination with my physical therapy, she is able to make an effective difference in my chronic back pain. She also gives a deep fascia massage, which is important, because I am pregnant now and tend to get swollen. Depending on your condition, she can work with different techniques to get good results right away. The massage takes place in a quiet cul-de-sac in a residential home in Los Altos, so fighting for parking spots and navigating through a crowd of people are never an issue (I value my privacy). As first time parents, my husband and I appreciated Heathir's help both before and during labor and delivery. We met with Heathir several times before my due date to discuss our birth preferences, concerns, priorities, etc. We discussed everything from pain management strategies to what we could expect upon arriving at the hospital. She knows what kinds of decisions will be helpful to think about before the Big Day (for example, it had never occurred to me that I should think ahead of time about whether I'd want an IV port put in when I arrived at the hospital), but she's also aware of the value of staying flexible and not getting too attached to birth plans (because, chances are, some things just won't go as expected!). Once my daughter was on the way, Heathir was a rock. We called her in the middle of the night after being in active labor for several hours. She helped me stay comfortable and calm at home, helped me feel confident in my decision about when to leave for the hospital, and stayed with us through many hours of labor at the hospital. Because I was in labor for so long, I saw three midwives and several shifts of nurses come and go before my daughter finally arrived, but Heathir stuck with me and my husband throughout. I cannot overstate how much I appreciated having her there as a constant source of comfort and knowledge as everyone else on my care team had to pass me along at shift change. There are many experienced and knowledgeable doulas out there who will stick with you through a long labor and delivery, but what I most appreciated about Heathir was her quiet yet confident demeanor. Heathir was a very calming presence for me. She gave me the space and quiet to do the hard work of bringing a baby into the world, but she knew exactly when and how to make suggestions or give support. She never imposed her own idea of what a laboring mom "should" do, but rather helped create an experience as close to my goals and values as possible. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Heathir again or to recommend her to other moms looking to hire a great doula.
