I ordered the combo sandwich and pie for lunch. The philly sandwich had a 3 inch rolled piece of wax paper in it that I bit into with my second bite. The manager excused it as a minor mistake saying it's not a hair or dirt. It ruined my lunch and my wife's. He comped my meal, which ended up being a piece of pie, refused to comp my wife's. Huge fan of Hearthstone. Soups, sandwiches, and salads are all excellent. Fantastic bakery as well. I make sure I bring home a dozen cookies from Hearthstone when I visit. My kids love them. By far the best molasses cookies I have tasted at a bakery, they are a close second to my mother's home made cookies. Recently, I was introduced to the graham cracker fluff. Wow. I ordered the Grilled chicken salad. It had dry, shredded meat on it. No grill marks anywhere. Obviously leftover chicken or chicken poached in a crock pot. I asked the server if it was grilled chicken and she it was. Bought a raspberry cream cheese roll on the way it out. It was dry and the frosting tasted like it was from a can. Wow. Outstanding, hearty meals in this Mennonite-owned restaurant. The chicken noodle soup was almost buttery-rich, with just enough herbal goodness to counterbalance the richness...the chili. which has no pretensions of being anything other than Midwestern-mom chili, was possibly the best I've had since my mother's, deeply flavorful without a lot of heat or precious ingredients...delicious sandwiches on butterhorn rolls, ample portions without being outrageous, and not gloppy with mayonnaise.. Casseroles and pot pies are the restaurant's specialty, and it was telling that the chicken pot pie had already sold out by 12:30 on a Saturday, with a nonstop stream of patrons. And if this were not enough, the restaurant is also a bakery, selling a wide assortment of pies, breads and cakes. We had just stopped in Ithaca to grab lunch not knowing what we'd find; we're so glad we stumbled upon this place! read more

Lovely little place run by Mennonites. The chicken salad sandwich on their homemade butter horn was fresh, delicious and portioned well. The graham cracker fluff was a yummy combination of whipped cream and pudding and was super delicious. The cinnamon roll was hands down the best I've ever had! Big as my head, warm, gooey, and just the right amount of cinnamon. We got two to go because they were too delicious not to bring home with us. Stopped here on a long drive through Michigan with the family for lunch. A very kid friendly place that has booster seats and gave wiki sticks to the kids. Food was ok with some nice surprises.
